• How can I define a verb in J that applies a different verb alternately to each atom in a list?

  Imagine I've defined the following name in J: m =: >: i. 2 4 5 This looks like the following: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 I want to create a monadic verb of rank 1 that applies to each list in this list of lists. It will double (+:) or add 1 (>:) to each alternate item in the list. If we were to apply this verb to the first row, we'd get 2 3 6 5 10. It's fairly easy to get a list of booleans which alternate with each item, e.g., 0 1 $~{:$ m gives us 0 1 0 1 0. I thought, aha! I'll use something like +:`>: @. followed by some expression, but I could never quite get it to work. Any suggestions? • capturing CMD batch file parameter list; write to file for later processing

  I have written a batch file that is launched as a post processing utility by a program. The batch file reads ~24 parameters supplied by the calling program, stores them into variables, and then writes them to various text files. Since the max input variable in CMD is %9, it's necessary to use the 'shift' command to repeatedly read and store these individually to named variables. Because the program outputs several similar batch files, the result is opening several CMD windows sequentially, assigning variables and writing data files. This ties up the calling program for too long. It occurs to me that I could free up the calling program much faster if maybe there's a way to write a very simple batch file that can write all the command parameters to a text file, where I can process them later. Basically, just grab the parameter list, write it and done. Q: Is there some way to treat an entire series of parameter data as one big text string and write it to one big variable... and then echo the whole big thing to one text file? Then later read the string into %n variables when there's no program waiting to resume? Parameter list is something like 25 - 30 words, less than 200 characters. Sample parameter list: "First Name" "Lastname" "123 Steet Name Way" "Cityname" ST 12345 1004968 06/01/2010 "Firstname+Lastname" 101738 "On Account" 20.67 xy-1z 1 8.95 3.00 1.39 0 0 239 8.95 Items in quotes are processed as string variables. List is space delimited. Any suggestions?

• Why can't you return a List from a Compiled Query?

  I was speeding up my app by using compiled queries for queries which were getting hit over and over. I tried to implement it like this: Function Select(ByVal fk_id As Integer) As List(SomeEntity) Using db As New DataContext() db.ObjectTrackingEnabled = False Return CompiledSelect(db, fk_id) End Using End Function Shared CompiledSelect As Func(Of DataContext, Integer, List(Of SomeEntity)) = _ CompiledQuery.Compile(Function(db As DataContext, fk_id As Integer) _ (From u In db.SomeEntities _ Where u.SomeLinkedEntity.ID = fk_id _ Select u).ToList()) This did not work and I got this error message: Type : System.ArgumentNullException, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089 Message : Value cannot be null. Parameter name: value However, when I changed my compiled query to return IQueryable instead of List like so: Function Select(ByVal fk_id As Integer) As List(SomeEntity) Using db As New DataContext() db.ObjectTrackingEnabled = False Return CompiledSelect(db, fk_id).ToList() End Using End Function Shared CompiledSelect As Func(Of DataContext, Integer, IQueryable(Of SomeEntity)) = _ CompiledQuery.Compile(Function(db As DataContext, fk_id As Integer) _ From u In db.SomeEntities _ Where u.SomeLinkedEntity.ID = fk_id _ Select u) It worked fine. Can anyone shed any light as to why this is? BTW, compiled queries rock! They sped up my app by a factor of 2.

  hi, I am creating a list .. the elements of the list are drawn from sqlite database .. I populate the list using ArrayList and ArrayAdapter ...upon clicking the items on the list I want to be able to fire an intent containing info about the item clicked ... info like the index number of the item .. using the method : onItemClick(AdapterView av, View v, int index, long arg) I do get index of the item clicked . however it is of the list currently displayed . the problem comes when I do setFilterTextEnabled(true) , and on the app type in some text to to search some item ..and then click it ..rather than giving me the index of the item on the original list it gives me the index on filtered list.. following is the snippet of code: myListView.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> av, View v, int index, long arg) { Intent lyricsViewIntent = new Intent(iginga.this, LyricsPage.class); lyricsViewIntent.putExtra("title", songList.get((int)arg).getTitle()); lyricsViewIntent.putExtra("id", songList.get((int)arg).getSongId()); startActivity(lyricsViewIntent); } }); myListView.setTextFilterEnabled(true); Is there any way I can get the original index /position of the item instead of the one showing in filtered text ...when filtered.

• How to reliably get size of C-style array?

  How do I reliably get the size of a C-style array? The method often recommended seems to be to use sizeof, but it doesn't work in the foo function, where x is passed in: #include <iostream> void foo(int x[]) { std::cerr << (sizeof(x) / sizeof(int)); // 2 } int main(){ int x[] = {1,2,3,4,5}; std::cerr << (sizeof(x) / sizeof(int)); // 5 foo(x); return 0; } Answers to this question recommend sizeof but they don't say that it (apparently?) doesn't work if you pass the array around. So, do I have to use a sentinel instead? (I don't think the users of my foo function can always be trusted to put a sentinel at the end. Of course, I could use std::vector, but then I don't get the nice shorthand syntax {1,2,3,4,5}.)

• Div's are not filtered as :hidden when display:none; is appended as style

I have jQuery code to toggle between displaying these, but I need to store as a cookie which one was used last time the user was logged in (i.e. which one was visible). The storing of the cookie is not the problem. The problem is that I for some reason am not able to detect which one is the hidden one, using .is(":hidden"), and not able to detect which one is visible using .is(":visible") When I use those two selectors, I always get both. "true" and "true" for both, eventhough one has display: none; and the other doesn't. Please note that they are NOT placed inside a hidden container which otherwise would hide both, so there are not any hidden ancestor containers.   I have two tables... For example - Company and Employee (let's keep this real simple) Company( id, name ); Employee( id, company_id ); Employee.company_id is a foreign key. My entity model looks like this... Employee @ManyToOne(cascade = CascadeType.PERSIST) @JoinColumn(name = "company_id") Company company; Company @OneToMany(cascade = CascadeType.ALL, fetch = FetchType.EAGER) @JoinColumn(name = "company_id") List<Employee> employeeList = new ArrayList<Employee>(); So, yeah I want a list of employees for a company. When I do the following... Employee e = new Employee(); e.setCompany(c); //c is an Company that is already in the database. DAO.insertEmployee(e); //this works fine! If I then get my Company object it's list is empty! Ive tried endless different ways from the Hibernate documentation! Obviously not tried the correct one yet! I just want the list to be populated for me or find out a sensible alternative. Help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

In particular, you learn how to group a list of products by product category. Displaying a grouped list of items in a ListView control requires completing the following steps: Create a Grouped data source from a List data source Create a Grouped Header Template Declare the ListView control so it groups the list items Creating the Grouped Data Source Normally, you bind a ListView control to a WinJS.Binding.List object. If you want to render list items in groups, then you need to bind the ListView to a grouped data source instead. • Does Powershell have an "eval" equivalent? Is there a better way to see a list of properties and val

  I'm doing a bit of Powershell scripting ( for the first time ) to look at some stuff in a Sharepoint site and what I would like to be able to do is to go through a list of properties of an object and just output their values in a "property-name = value" kind of format. Now I can find the list of elements using this: $myObject | get-member -membertype property Which will return a list of all the properties in a very clear and readable fashion. But what I need is to find a value for those properties. In some scripting languages I could have a kind of eval( "$myObject.$propertyName" ) call - where I have extracted $propertyName from the get-member output - and have it evaluate the string as code, which for the kind of quick-and-dirty solution I need would be fine. Does this exist in Powershell or is there a more convenient way to do it? Should I be using reflection instead?

A question on OTN was how to access the row of the selected return value on the ADF Faces front end. For this, you need to know that there is a Model property defined on the af:inputListOfValues that references the ListOfValuesModel implementation in the model. It is the value of this Model property that you need to get access to. The af:inputListOfValues has a ReturnPopupListener property that you can use to configure a managed bean method to receive notification when the user closes the LOV popup dialog by selecting the Ok button. This listener is not triggered when the cancel button is pressed. The managed bean signature can be created declaratively in Oracle JDeveloper 11g using the Edit option in the context menu next to the ReturnPopupListener field in the PropertyInspector. The empty method signature looks as shown below public void returnListener(ReturnPopupEvent returnPopupEvent) { } The ReturnPopupEvent object gives you access the RichInputListOfValues component instance, which represents the af:inputListOfValues component at runtime. From here you access the Model property of the component to then get a handle to the CollectionModel. The CollectionModel returns an instance of JUCtrlHierBinding in its getWrappedData method. Though there is no tree binding definition for the list of values dialog defined in the PageDef, it exists. Once you have access to this, you can read the row the user selected in the list of values dialog.   I'm working on sending out an html based email, and every time it sends the image src tags and some of the anchor href tags are modified to be relative url's. Update 2: This is happening between when the body of the email is generated and sent and when it arrives in my inbox. Update: I am using Postfix on a LAMPP server. In addition, I am using Zend_Mail to send the emails out. • How can I load style resources from a dynamically loaded Silverlight application (XAP)?

  I've followed Tim Heuer's video for dynamically loading other XAP's (into a 'master' Silverlight application), as well as some other links to tweak the loading of resources and am stuck on the particular issue of loading style resources from within the dynamically loaded XAP (i.e. the contents of Assets\Styles.xaml). When I run the master/hosting applcation, it successfully streams the dynamic XAP and I can read the deployment info etc. and load the assembly parts. However, when I actuall try to create an instance of a form from the Dynamic XAP, it fails with Cannot find a Resource with the Name/Key LayoutRootGridStyle which is in it's Assets\Styles.xaml file (it works if I run it directly so I know it's OK). For some reason these don't show up as application resources - not sure if I've totally got the wrong end of the stick, or am just missing something? • On Android, click to expand list -and- click on a button?

  I have just started my career as an android programmer, and am currently relying heavily on the sample code and api examples. I have been working with this api example, to produce an expandable list of items (note this example does not use the ExpadableListView). In playing with the example, I tried to add another widget that would become visible and be gone at the same time as the text (mDialogue in the sample code). This works well with another TextView, but as soon as I tried to add a button widget, it stopped working. The list would expand on first click, showing my hidden TextView and Button, but it will not disappear on further clicks. The button is however, clickable, and I was able to set up an onClick listener to change the button text back and forth. I'm starting to wonder, is it just not possible to have a clickable item inside a clickable list item? Or is there some kind of work around? Would it solve my problem if I used ExpandableListView?

• A list of pros and cons to giving developers “Local Admin” privileges to their machines? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Is local “User” rights enough or do developers need Local Administrator or Power User while coding? I currently work for a large utilities company which currently does not grant “Local Admin” access to developers. This is causing a lot of grief as anything that requires elevated privileges needs to be done by the Desktop Support/Server Teams. In some cases this can take several days and requires our developers to have to show why they need this access. I personally think that all developers should have local administration rights and are currently fighting with management to achieve this but I would like to know what other people think about this. To achieve this I would like to hear what people believe are the pros and cons of letting developers have local admin access to their machines. Here are some I have come up with: Pros Loss time is keep low as developers can resolve issues that would normally require Local Admin Evaluation of tools and software are possible to improve productivity Desktop support time not wasted installing services and software on developers PC Cons Developers install software on local PC that could be malicious to others or inappropriate in a business environment Desktop Support required to support a PC that is not the norm Development done with admin access that then fails when promoted to another environment that does not have the same access level

So, when I like to remove all this packages after testing kmymoney, how can I do that? sudo apt-get install kmymoney >> /some/folder/kmymoney.txt gives me the output of apt-get, but that's not what I'm looking for.   i started working with ubuntu 11.10 last year. i upgraded to 12.04 a week back. since then i have had all sorts of problems with network connection. first had to install the new driver. the hardware switch somehow got disabled then the above problem arrived. even tho the options are all enabled, the OS is not able to detect scan available network connections. also i have to bring to notice that once in a while it does get connected, can not explain how it happens.   I can't use the nltk wordnet lemmatizer because I can't download the wordnet corpus on my university computer due to access rights issues. So is there anyway I could paste the wordnet corpus into /home/XX/bin and then somehow make nltk look for the corpus in that folder?

• How to bind a List of a DataObject to a Grid with BindingSources?

I though of a DataGrid. Though I'm coming from ASP.net I'd first think of this.dataGridView1.DataSource = A.GetAllA(ConnectionString) Works, but I'd prefer a better databinding with BindingSources. (Because I've always heard that thats the way to go) I managed to drop a BindingSource onto the form and set the DataSource property to class A. But where can I set the SelectMethod and its parameters? If I set DataSource property of the dataGridView to the BindingSource, it will only display an empty line. Is this the right way to go? Will it only require some additional clicks in the wizard, or do I need to read tons of documentation to get this working?

  The past months have flown by since I started working at Oracle; but at the same time it feels like I’ve been here forever. I came to Beijing to find a job after I graduated from The University of Southampton with a MSc in Software Engineering. I got an offer the next day after I had an interview with my manager. This new style of working life hasn’t been a problem with me. The atmosphere here is fantastic and everyone is so friendly and easy to talk to. I am the first member in our AIE China Team. We do appreciate those colleagues from Core I/O team who helped us a lot to familiarize ourselves with the new environment. After hire orientation training I got to know many new people from various teams including Middleware, People Soft and Solaris. Also Oracle provides weekly system online training as additional training for those people who need it. The best thing about working at Oracle is that there is a balance between work and rest. It’s good to have a really nice park and green space near the Oracle buildings. Most of us like to walk around the riverside after lunch before we get back to work. I like to grab a cup of latte before discussing issues and the schedule of our projects in a weekly conference call with my US colleagues. It has been great experience; I am working alongside talented colleagues from different countries and nationalities. How does this differ from the System.Lazy<...> construct now available in .NET 4.0 (and perhaps earlier)? More depth based on DoctaJones' great answer: Would you recommend one over the other if I wanted to operate on IQueryable as a List<T>? I'm assuming that since Lazy<T> is in the framework now, it is a safer bet for future support and maintainability? If I want to use a strong type instead of an anonymous (var) type would the following statements be functionally equivalent?
