• jQuery "growl-like" effect in VB.net

    - by StealthRT
    Hey all, i have made a simple form that mimiks the jQuery "GROWL" effect seen here http://www.sandbox.timbenniks.com/projects/jquery-notice/ However, i have ran into a problem. If i have more than one call to the form to display a "Growl" then it just refreshes the same form with whatever call i send it. In other words, i can only display one form at a time instead of having one drop down and a new one appear above it. Here is my simple form code for the "GROWL" form: Public Class msgWindow Public howLong As Integer Public theType As String Private loading As Boolean Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint(ByVal pe As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) Dim pn As New Pen(Color.DarkGreen) If theType = "OK" Then pn.Color = Color.DarkGreen ElseIf theType = "ERR" Then pn.Color = Color.DarkRed Else pn.Color = Color.DarkOrange End If pn.Width = 2 pe.Graphics.DrawRectangle(pn, 0, 0, Me.Width, Me.Height) pn = Nothing End Sub Public Sub showMessageBox(ByVal typeOfBox As String, ByVal theMessage As String) Me.Opacity = 0 Me.Show() Me.SetDesktopLocation(My.Computer.Screen.WorkingArea.Width - 350, 15) Me.loading = True theType = typeOfBox lblSaying.Text = theMessage If typeOfBox = "OK" Then Me.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(192, 255, 192) ElseIf typeOfBox = "ERR" Then Me.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(255, 192, 192) Else Me.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(255, 255, 192) End If If Len(theMessage) <= 30 Then howLong = 4000 ElseIf Len(theMessage) >= 31 And Len(theMessage) <= 80 Then howLong = 7000 ElseIf Len(theMessage) >= 81 And Len(theMessage) <= 100 Then howLong = 12000 Else howLong = 17000 End If Me.opacityTimer.Start() End Sub Private Sub opacityTimer_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles opacityTimer.Tick If Me.loading Then Me.Opacity += 0.07 If Me.Opacity >= 0.8 Then Me.opacityTimer.Stop() Me.opacityTimer.Dispose() Pause(howLong) Me.loading = False Me.opacityTimer.Start() End If Else Me.Opacity -= 0.08 If Me.Opacity <= 0 Then Me.opacityTimer.Stop() Me.Close() End If End If End Sub Public Sub Pause(ByVal Milliseconds As Integer) Dim dTimer As Date dTimer = Now.AddMilliseconds(Milliseconds) Do While dTimer > Now Application.DoEvents() Loop End Sub End Class I call the form by this simple call: Call msgWindow.showMessageBox("OK", "Finished searching images.") Does anyone know a way where i can have the same setup but would allow me to add any number of forms without refreshing the same form over and over again? Like always, any help would be great! :) David

  • Using NSURLRequest+NSURLConnection seems overkill for a webcall with no data return

    - by Spectravideo328
    All, This might seems very straightforward but I have already gone through the URL loading system program guide and the various NSURL.... classes and not found my answer. I am just trying to do a simple call from the app to a website to reserve a party spot: NSString *path=[NSString stringWithFormat:@"http://www.myparty123.com/ireservedURL.asp?Nickname=%@&Seat=%i&Email=%@&Currentparty=%i",john,5432,[email protected],6598]; NSURL* reservationURL =[NSURL URLWithString:path]; NSData *call= [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:reservationURL]; This seemed to be the simple way but I get this warning that I am not using the "call" variable. And it seems overkill to do a call using NSData where there is no data return. Yet, creating an NSURLRequest and initiating an NSURLConnection and then implementing delegates with that request seems to be overkill as well. What am I missing. Thanks KMB

  • MVC 3 Remote Validation jQuery error on submit

    - by Richard Reddy
    I seem to have a weird issue with remote validation on my project. I am doing a simple validation check on an email field to ensure that it is unique. I've noticed that unless I put the cursor into the textbox and then remove it to trigger the validation at least once before submitting my form I will get a javascript error. e[h] is not a function jquery.min.js line 3 If I try to resubmit the form after the above error is returned everything works as expected. It's almost like the form tried to submit before waiting for the validation to return or something. Am I required to silently fire off a remote validation request on submit before submitting my form? Below is a snapshot of the code I'm using: (I've also tried GET instead of POST but I get the same result). As mentioned above, the code works fine but the form returns a jquery error unless the validation is triggered at least once. Model: public class RegisterModel { [Required] [Remote("DoesUserNameExist", "Account", HttpMethod = "POST", ErrorMessage = "User name taken.")] [Display(Name = "User name")] public string UserName { get; set; } [Required] [Display(Name = "Firstname")] public string Firstname { get; set; } [Display(Name = "Surname")] public string Surname { get; set; } [Required] [Remote("DoesEmailExist", "Account", HttpMethod = "POST", ErrorMessage = "Email taken.", AdditionalFields = "UserName")] [Display(Name = "Email address")] public string Email { get; set; } [StringLength(100, ErrorMessage = "The {0} must be at least {2} characters long.", MinimumLength = 8)] [DataType(DataType.Password)] [Display(Name = "Password")] public string Password { get; set; } [StringLength(100, ErrorMessage = "The {0} must be at least {2} characters long.", MinimumLength = 8)] [DataType(DataType.Password)] [Display(Name = "Confirm password")] public string ConfirmPassword { get; set; } [Display(Name = "Approved?")] public bool IsApproved { get; set; } } public class UserRoleModel { [Display(Name = "Assign Roles")] public IEnumerable<RoleViewModel> AllRoles { get; set; } public RegisterModel RegisterUser { get; set; } } Controller: // POST: /Account/DoesEmailExist // passing in username so that I can ignore the same email address for the same user on edit page [HttpPost] public JsonResult DoesEmailExist([Bind(Prefix = "RegisterUser.Email")]string Email, [Bind(Prefix = "RegisterUser.UserName")]string UserName) { var user = Membership.GetUserNameByEmail(Email); if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(UserName)) { if (user == UserName) return Json(true); } return Json(user == null); } View: ...... @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.AntiForgeryToken()

Edit a user account

@Html.HiddenFor(model => model.RegisterUser.UserName) @Html.Partial("_CreateOrEdit", Model)
@Html.LabelFor(model => model.RegisterUser.IsApproved) @Html.RadioButtonFor(model => model.RegisterUser.IsApproved, true, new { @class = "uniform" }) Active @Html.RadioButtonFor(model => model.RegisterUser.IsApproved, false, new { @class = "uniform" }) Disabled

  @Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index", null, new { @class = "st-clear" })

} CreateEdit Partial View @model Project.Domain.Entities.UserRoleModel
@Html.LabelFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Firstname) @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Firstname, new { @class = "st-forminput", @style = "width:300px" }) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Firstname)

@Html.LabelFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Surname) @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Surname, new { @class = "st-forminput", @style = "width:300px" }) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Surname)

@Html.LabelFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Email) @Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Email, new { @class = "st-forminput", @style = "width:300px" }) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.RegisterUser.Email)

Thanks, Rich

  • jquery, moving the current item to the top

    - by azz0r
    Hello, The problem I'm having is that if the fourth item has a long description, it cuts off as it goes below #features. What I was hoping is someone would have a suggestion on how to make the current item selected to move to the top? Code below:

Item 3

Item 3 description

Item 2

Item 2 description

Item 1

Item one description

Item 4

Item 4 description

  • Can I make DataGridView.EndEdit trigger the CellValidating event?

    - by Don Kirkby
    I'm using a DataGridView in my WinForms application. My main objective is to make the Enter key not move to the next row in the grid. I still want the enter key to validate and end edit mode. I found this FAQ entry and subclassed DataGridView to override ProcessDialogKey(). If the key pressed is Enter, I call EndEdit(), otherwise I call base.ProcessDialogKey(). It works great, except the CellValidating event isn't fired. Currently, I'm just manually calling my validation logic before I call EndEdit, but it seems like I'm missing something. I guess I could call OnCellValidating, but then I'd be worried I'm missing some other event. What I really want is some flavour of EndEdit() that behaves just like pressing enter on the last row of a grid with adding disabled.

  • IE8 isn't resizing tbody or thead when a column is hidden in a table with table-layout:fixed

    - by tom
    IE 8 is doing something very strange when I hide a column in a table with table-layout:fixed. The column is hidden, the table element stays the same width, but the tbody and thead elements are not resized to fill the remaining width. It works in IE7 mode (and FF, Chrome, etc. of course). Has anyone seen this before or know of a workaround? Here is my test page - toggle the first column and use the dev console to check out the table, tbody and thead width:

bug

1

2

3

4

1

2

3

4

toggle first column

  • OpenGL Calls Lock/Freeze

    - by Necrolis
    I am using some dell workstations(running WinXP Pro SP 2 & DeepFreeze) for development, but something was recenlty loaded onto these machines that prevents any opengl call(the call locks) from completing(and I know the code works as I have tested it on 'clean' machines, I also tested with simple opengl apps generated by dev-cpp, which will also lock on the dell machines). I have tried to debug my own apps to see where exactly the gl calls freeze, but there is some global system hook on ZwQueryInformationProcess that messes up calls to ZwQueryInformationThread(used by ExitThread), preventing me from debugging at all(it causes the debugger, OllyDBG, to go into an access violation reporting loop or the program to crash if the exception is passed along). the hook: ntdll.ZwQueryInformationProcess 7C90D7E0 B8 9A000000 MOV EAX,9A 7C90D7E5 BA 0003FE7F MOV EDX,7FFE0300 7C90D7EA FF12 CALL DWORD PTR DS:[EDX] 7C90D7EC - E9 0F28448D JMP 09D50000 7C90D7F1 9B WAIT 7C90D7F2 0000 ADD BYTE PTR DS:[EAX],AL 7C90D7F4 00BA 0003FE7F ADD BYTE PTR DS:[EDX+7FFE0300],BH 7C90D7FA FF12 CALL DWORD PTR DS:[EDX] 7C90D7FC C2 1400 RETN 14 7C90D7FF 90 NOP ntdll.ZwQueryInformationToken 7C90D800 B8 9C000000 MOV EAX,9C the messed up function + call: ntdll.ZwQueryInformationThread 7C90D7F0 8D9B 000000BA LEA EBX,DWORD PTR DS:[EBX+BA000000] 7C90D7F6 0003 ADD BYTE PTR DS:[EBX],AL 7C90D7F8 FE ??? ; Unknown command 7C90D7F9 7F FF JG SHORT ntdll.7C90D7FA 7C90D7FB 12C2 ADC AL,DL 7C90D7FD 14 00 ADC AL,0 7C90D7FF 90 NOP ntdll.ZwQueryInformationToken 7C90D800 B8 9C000000 MOV EAX,9C So firstly, anyone know what if anything would lead to OpenGL calls cause an infinite lock,and if there are any ways around it? and what would be creating such a hook in kernal memory ? Update: After some more fiddling, I have discovered a few more kernal hooks, a lot of them are used to nullify data returned by system information calls(such as the remote debugging port), I also managed to find out the what ever is doing this is using madchook.dll(by madshi) to do this, this dll is also injected into every running process(these seem to be some anti debugging code). Also, on the OpenGL side, it seems Direct X is fine/unaffected(I ran one of the DX 9 demo's without problems), so could one of these kernal hooks somehow affect OpenGL?

  • Should i use HttpResponse.End() for a fast webapp?

    - by acidzombie24
    HttpResponse.End() seems to throw an exception according to msdn. Right now i have the choice of returning a value to say end thread (it only goes 2 functions deep) or i can call end(). I know that throwing exceptions is significantly slower (read the comment for a C#/.NET test) so if i want a fast webapp should i consider not calling it when it is trivially easy to not call it? -edit- I do have a function call in certain functions and in the constructor in classes to ensure the user is logged in. So i call HttpResponse.End() in enough places although hopefully in regular site usage it doesn't occur too often.

  • Centralizing a floating element :(

    - by 2x2p1p
    Hi guys :| My "div" element have a relative width, it isn't absolute so I can't use exact numbers to centralize. A nice solution is to use "display: inline-block": body { text-align: center; } #myDiv { border: 1px solid black; display: inline-block; padding: 50px; } But this element NEEDS to float, I tried this: #myDiv { border: 1px solid black; display: inline-block; float: left; padding: 50px; } And this: #myDiv { border: 1px solid black; display: inline-block; padding: 50px; position: absolute; } Without any success, can somebody help me ? Thanks

  • Non-IE6 IE7 hack

    - by thermal7
    I managed to create a page the crashes IE6 and 7 regularly as per here: http://raven-seo-tools.com/blog/2675/crash-ie6-with-only-css I have a solution for non-IE browsers (display: inline-block), but the only way to get IE6/7 working is to use different CSS (display: inline). Normally I would have other browsers use inline-block, then in a seperate IE67 CSS file I would set display to inline. The problem is IE67 crash as soon as they reach the display: inline-block line, so I need a way to hide this code from IE6 and 7 but not other browsers.

  • Linux time sample based profiler.

    - by Caspin
    short version: Is there a good time based sampling profiler for Linux? long version: I generally use OProfile to optimize my applications. I recently found a shortcoming that has me wondering. The problem was a tight loop spawning c++filt to demangle a c++ name. I only stumbled upon the code by accident while chasing down another bottleneck. The OProfile didn't show anything unusual about the code so I almost ignored it but my code sense told me to optimize the call and see what happened. I changed the popen of c++filt to abi::__cxa_demangle. The runtime went from more than a minute to a little over a second. About a x60 speed up. Is there a way I could have configured OProfile to flag the popen call? As the profile data sits now OProfile thinks the bottle neck was the heap and std::string calls (which BTW once optimized dropped the runtime to less than a second, more than x2 speed up). Here is my OProfile configuration: $ sudo opcontrol --status Daemon not running Event 0: CPU_CLK_UNHALTED:90000:0:1:1 Separate options: library vmlinux file: none Image filter: /path/to/excutable Call-graph depth: 7 Buffer size: 65536 Is there another profiler for Linux that could have found the bottleneck? I suspect the issue is that OProfile only logs its samples to the currently running process. I'd like it to always log its samples to the process I'm profiling. So if the process is currently switched out (blocking on IO or a popen call) OProfile would just place its sample at the blocked call. If I can't fix this, OProfile will only be useful when the executable is pushing near 100% CPU. It can't help with executables that that have inefficient blocking calls.

  • Winsock failed to connect to local ip address

    - by JKS
    I have used the following code in a form that acts like a server, WskServer(0).Close LocalIP = WskServer(0).LocalIP WskServer(0).LocalPort = DEFAULT_TCP_PORT WskServer(0).Protocol = sckTCPProtocol txtStatus.Text = "Starting server" Call WskServer(0).Bind(DEFAULT_TCP_PORT, LocalIP) WskServer(0).Listen when i execute above code,i received the following error "Address is not available from the local machine" . If i changed the line Call WskServer(0).Bind(DEFAULT_TCP_PORT, LocalIP) to Call WskServer(0).Bind(DEFAULT_TCP_PORT, "127.0.0.1") this is working What's wrong with the code?, can anybody give the fix Update I just removed the line Call WskServer(0).Bind(DEFAULT_TCP_PORT, LocalIP) now server working properly. this way is correct or not

  • How come drawing this line at (0,0) doesn't really draw it at (0,0)?

    - by George Edison
    I have this ActionScript code here: package { import flash.display.Sprite; import flash.display.LineScaleMode; import flash.display.CapsStyle; import flash.display.JointStyle; import flash.display.Shape; import flash.events.Event; public class Main extends Sprite { private var lines:Shape; public function Main():void { if (stage) init(); else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); } private function init(e:Event = null):void { removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); // entry point lines = new Shape(); addChild(lines); lines.graphics.clear(); lines.graphics.lineStyle(10, 0x000000); lines.graphics.moveTo(0, 0); lines.graphics.lineTo(stage.stageWidth, stage.stageHeight); } } } What I'm expecting this to do is to draw a line from one corner of the screen to the other... but that's not what it does. See here.

  • Changing the type in IE with JavaScript

    - by MrEnder
    The line works in all web browsers except IE... How can I fix it for IE? Ok made some changes to still have an error I want it to work like this like here if I dont enter anything it will put the value back So I tried this

  as you can see the blur does not work =[ ok finally got it thanks to the help needed to remove passwordElement1.focus();

  • Two questions on ensuring EndInvoke() gets called on a list of IAsyncResult objects

    - by RobV
    So this question is regarding the .Net IAsyncResult design pattern and the necessity of calling EndInvoke as covered in this question Background I have some code where I'm firing off potentially many asynchronous calls to a particular function and then waiting for all these calls to finish before using EndInvoke() to get back all the results. Question 1 I don't know whether any of the calls has encountered an exception until I call EndInvoke() and in the event that an exception occurs in one of the calls the entire method should fail and the exception gets wrapped into an API specific exception and thrown upwards. So my first question is what's the best way then to ensure that the remainder of the async calls get properly terminated? Is a finally block which calls EndInvoke() on the remainder of the unterminated calls (and ignores any further exceptions) the best way to do this? Question 2 Secondly when I first fire off all my asyc calls I then call WaitHandle.WaitAll() on the array of WaitHandle instances that I've got from my IAsyncResult instances. The method which is firing all these async calls has a timeout to adhere to so I provide this to the WaitAll() method. Then I test whether all the calls have completed, if not then the timeout must have been reached so the method should also fail and throw another API specific exception. So my second question is what should I do in this case? I need to call EndInvoke() to terminate all these async calls before I throw the error but at the same time I don't want the code to get stuck since EndInvoke() is blocking. In theory at least if the WaitAll() call times out then all the async calls should themselves have timed out and thrown exceptions (thus completing the call) since they are also governed by a timeout but this timeout is potentially different from the main timeout
