• XRegExp Regular Expression Library for JavaScript

  XRegExp is an open source JavaScript library. It extends JavaScript’s regex syntax with features such as free-spacing, named capture, mode modifiers, and Unicode categories, blocks, and scripts. It also provides its own test(), exec(), forEach(), replace(), and split() methods that eliminate most cross-browser inconstencies and bugs. Anyone using non-trivial regexes in their JavaScript code should seriously consider using XRegExp. Last month’s update of the Regular-Expressions.info website added full coverage of XRegExp to the regex tutorial and regex reference sections. But the tools & languages section was missing the XRegExp page, resulting in broken links in the tutorial and reference sections. This page has now been added.

  Good day everyone! This is my first post on this site ^_^ My question is: What are my options if I need a Web 2.0 gallery software that work in a very similar manner to this removed web site. Essentially: users can create account, then create and manage their own galleries. And all other users and guests can see these galleries, add tags, comments, etc. Basically a community driven gallery web site. When it comes to "normal" cms I know a lot of good options, but I never worked with any gallery management software... If you can suggest me some good solutions (free) it would be great! Also: If you by any chance know what software is used at this removed website it would be even better, because this solution suits me the best and I would have used this engine, but I cant find any information on what this engine is and if it is even public, or privately developed thing. • Is an in-app purchase required to unlock game in order to bypass pirating acceptable?

  I'm considering writing a mobile game and looking at distribution. The game will have a server requirement, which means I will have to pay for bandwidth, hosting, processor time, etc. Because of that I'll need to make at least a little money off this thing. According to the press piracy is rampant in the android community. To get around this, I'm thinking of implementing a simple model where the game is free, perhaps allowing play for X number of turns or something, and then requiring an in-app purchase to continue to play. I would clearly explain this in the app description, and the in-app purchase would be managed per account so it would be linked to your google play account so you wouldn't have to re-purchase every time you get a new device. Would gamers accept this model or see it as unreasonable?

  Google has led many useful Java features (guava, gson); now that Oracle has purchased Sun will it effect its future enhancements and utilization as a development language. What exactly, or even approximately, are the legal ramifications? I thought Java was open source and would therefore remain unaffected ... ? Should Google just buy Oracle to get rid of the whole mess, that would be cool wouldn't it ? Do you think this is the beginning of the end for Java as a widely used language ? • Separating portion of website to its own server

  So my job is to take the homepage (or maybe I should say "homesite" because it encompasses a few interrelated pages) and drag this onto its own Apache server. The problem I'm having right now is being able to weed out jumbled/bundled files (such as folders of js, css, and other files that i cant even identify) and knowing what is necessary to keep the homesite running. I'm new to this stuff (I'm an intern) so feel free to ask questions if I'm leaving vital information out. What I'm asking of you guys here is basically any pointers or tips you may be able to give me in order to get the job done. I could use some advice from people with a little more experience in web development. btw: This question may appear as though I have not completed any prior research and that is, for the most part, true. But the problem is I really am not sure how to research this. If you guys could throw me some keywords to play with that would really be helpful. Thanks!

  Which languages have compilers able to emit plain standard C/C++ code? For a start: Haxe // uses Boehm GC Haskell (JHC) Haskell (old GHC) // -fvia-c, removed recently (emitted code is super ugly) Clay ATS Cython RPython (Shed Skin) // experimental RPython (PyPy) Python (Nuitka) // although author claims there are no speedups Common Lisp (ECL) COBOL (OpenCobol) Scheme (Chicken) APL // So far I've not found working implementation available for free download Ur/Web // GCC-specific output, and intended to be used only for web developments (included for completeness only) I'd like to build comprehensive up-to-date list but found only these ones so far. I've tested only Haxe and it works pretty well and quite fast. What about other ones? What is your expirience? How much ugly is generated code? Update. Any language chains (e.g. X - Scheme - C) will be perfectly OK as answer if its use is practical enough and suited for production use.

• Lining things up while using columns

  I have a request that may not be possible. I'd like to line up the elements of a form so that the inputs all start at the same place: Name: [ ] Company: [ ] Some question with a long name: [ ] But my list is (somewhat) long and I would like to show them in multiple columns on screens that are wide enough. Ideally, I'd find a POSH method (table-free is semantically appropriate, I think) that works on a reasonable number of browsers. My current page uses a table. I tried CSS with columns: auto; -moz-column-count: auto; -moz-column-width: auto; -webkit-column-count: auto; -webkit-column-width: auto; but Firefox (at least) won't break a table across columns.

  Windows 7 with 1gb RAM Hi. I am installing Ubuntu 12 onto a 20gb ext3 partition. I have 100gb free disk space. The install asked me to choose a swap space. Do I have to allocate another partition for the swap space, and if so, what size should it be? I installed without allocating a swap space. Can I allocate a swap space after the install? The install asked me for a mount point. I chose /. Is this okay? I also want to ensure that GRUB2 will be installed within the UBUNTU partition. Is there an option for this on the install? • Which API for cross platform mobile audio?

  This question focuses on the API's available on phones. I'd been planning to use OpenAL in my game for maximum portability. It runs great on Linux so I can quickly develop the Game and leverage it's superior debugging tools. However I've recently heard that Android doesn't support OpenAL well. Instead they've gone with a OpenSL ES library. What I'm looking for is a free Audio library that I can use with minimal custom code on iPhone, Android, and my Linux desktop. Does such an API exists? Some extra details: The game is written in C++ with custom minimal front ends. ObjC for iPhone, Java for Android, and SFML for Desktops. I'm using OpenGL ES for portability as iPhone doesn't support the more advanced OpenGL APIs.

• What are good gui guidelines for standard actions (usability)

  For example: Delete's should have confirms. Confirmations should be green. Prefer list-of-values over free text whenever possible. This was just a sample. I am looking for references that simply and clearly list common 'should do's' in terms of ui, interactions and usability. My company is new to software development and they keep getting suprised by contractors that don't do the obvious so I am looking for good references about the right way to do it and the basic things to always consider (like the above). Obviously style is subjects, but things like delete confirms shouldn't be.
