  Weve been talking about this for a while, and today is the magical day. EasySearchASP.net will no longer be a product sold by myKB.com, Inc. While the product still has a support life, and there are still (minute) sales, it is no longer financially prudent to keep the product on the market.   I work a lecturer and when I go home I find a lot of free time. The problem is that I spend most of my time in learning about web development. I don't go outside and don't meet people, I'm only in front of the screen drinking 4 cups of coffee (per day) and trying to learn many technologies related to web development. In the last, I don't learn things very well because I'm in a hurry. I know this place is for asking about programming but I want to learn from your experience regarding learning. How do you learn? • What is the Best Way to Incentivize a Team of Developers?

  I know in advance that people are going to see this question and think "free Red Bull." But I am actually looking for the best way to tie rewards for developers to the company's long-term goals. For example, assuming a team is working on the same software product, would it be best to reward each developer based on the condition of the final product? They are a team after all, and this will ensure that they are all working towards the common goal of getting the product out. However, this ignores the fact that some developers are stronger than others and some work harder than others. In your experience, what is the best way to incentivize a team of developers?

• Ubuntu will not start any more !!!!!!!! PLEASE HELP?

  I really need help , I left my computer downloading all the night and i did donwload 35 go of movies ( legal ....) , I restart the computed in the morning then i booted in my encrypted windows partition for my work. Surprise in the evening when i try to boot on linux again , then it doesnt start as it's telling me low graphic mode , and doesnt boot( happen when it's really full ) . Tryed in rescue and it's telling me i have 0 mo free. Tryed in shell comand sdo root rm - Some files IMPOSSIBLE . it's telling me that my files are only in read only file systems. I mouted my other hard drive in windows as well but there is a '' Write protection '' i can only read the files. Please let me know , what solution do i have ? Should i try live usb with ubuntu ? Thanks guys

• Got problem with installation. "No root file system is defined."

  I'm very new with Ubuntu and generally with linux. I saw ubuntu and it seems like this OS is really good and stable, and so I decided to install it alongside my windows 7 OS. I have a few problems with the installation. Here is what I did: I downloaded the 64bit version from Ubuntu official website, and burned it on a dvd. I set the boot sequence to first load from my CD-Rom. Ubuntu installation started, and I chose "Install Ubuntu" in the menu. (where there is also a "Try Ubuntu" option) I clicked forward until I got into the installation type screen As you can see, the installation wont show my actual details about my hard drive! I have 1 hard drive with 750 GB - 80 GB - My main drive with windows 7 OS 600GB - All of my stuff 20GB Free space that I saved for Ubuntu But the installation wont show that!

  Are there any alternatives to voxel based terrains? Such terrain should be fully destructable, allow for arches, overhangs, preserve sharp features where needed and keep consistent topology. Maybe you can explain the problem that makes you ask this question? Voxel based terrain is basically just using a 3D grid of data to store data. There are lots of ways to render that data, but it doesn't get much simpler for storing it. – Byte56 Current isosurface extraction methods aren't most effective/bug-free. Cubical Marching Squares seem to solve most of the issues, however it is a relatively new method and there aren't too many resources about it. (I've found single university paper) Even if we stick to CMS, when we want to add multi-material support, we can either divide surface into multiple meshes, or pass a texture array or texture atlas to shaders, then we are limited to set amount of textures and additionally increase memory-usage alot.

• Changing read-write permissions on my external Seagate hard drive

  I have an external hard drive (Seagate Free Agent) that I normally download files to. I have a dual boot Ubuntu 11.10 along with Windows 7-64 bit. I can read all of my files in my external HD perfectly, but when I attempt to do a download of a file to this drive, I get an "unable to write because of read only" disk error. When I attempt to change the permissions of the disk through the "Properties" bar, I still get an error that I don't have the proper permissions to change permissions. I have heard of "mounting" the disk, but I am afraid of mistakenly reformatting and destroying all the data that I have currently on that drive. How best should I safely change the permissions on that drive so that I can write and download files to the drive?? The drive is listed under /dev/sdc1.

• Kindle for PC via Wine

  I've been checking out all the free books on Amazon and I really want to get the Kindle PC program running on my computer so I can download, read, and manage my e-books. I realize that Calibre can be used to manage e-books and I do have that downloaded. However, Amazon won't let me download ebooks unless my PC is registered in their little Kindle program and I'd like to just keep things streamlined by playing by the rules for once. I've viewed so many tutorials and advice for setting it up. I have Wine, I have Kindle for PC, I set it to Win98, all of that. However, when I try to open KindlePC from the Wine menu or from the desktop icon, nothing happens. No error messages, nothing. I don't know what might be wrong. Please let me know if you have any experience with this and any suggestions!

• Can I install Ubuntu 12.04 on MacBook 6.1 (Late 2009) on my external hard drive?

  I have no experience in installing Linux based OS on MacBook, but I already have Windows installed on my Mac. I read some articles saying I can have the Lucid Lynx installed in my Macbook 6.1 and luckily I already got the CD (which was distributed for free back then haha), my question is that can I have the 12.04 installed instead of the 10.04 and what do I need to do that? I also would like to know can I install it on my external hard drive just like installing it on a usb stick? I have viewed the how-to for installing the Lucid Lynx, is it just the same?   For RenderToTexture/Camera based portal rendering, the basics seems simple enough. However, with a free camera, most of the time it is going to be looking at such portals at an angle: Now a regular near clipping plane will not always work here, it will either intersect with the wall the portal is sitting on, or possibly with objects in front of the wall. The desired near clipping plane would be aligned like the portal, producing a view volume more like this: or this in 3D: So here is my question: How does one construct or "truncate" a view/projection matrix to achieve such an off-camera-normal (near) clipping plane?

• What does backup procedures and troubleshooting guidelines mean for a system

  I am writing the documentation for a piece of software which I have made but I don't understand what it means in some aspects. It asks me to write about backup procedures but what exactly does this mean? Does this mean like backing up the database on another hosting service or something else entirely? I am dumbfounded by what troubleshooting guidelines are as well. • Where to get PNG icons/graphics for game development for kids? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Where can I find free sprites and images? I'm teaching kids to program using Ruby and the gaming framework Gosu/Chingu. Kids love it, including the part where they have to look for the icons/graphics for their game objects. I direct them to iconarchive.com, but the selection is sometimes very limited, the graphics aren't always with transparent backgrounds and sometimes the art requires payment. I don't mind paying for an educational license of some sort, but I want the kids to easily select graphics they can use in their games. Is there another resource better suited for this purpose? I don't have a good solution for this, but would also love a site they can get cool background images for their games.

  Hi guys, This question is more about maths and algorythms in Google Adwords but guess it's the most appropriate community in SE to ask this. I am creating a spreadsheet to calculate Adword formulas and I am stuck in how to calculate the Monthly Net Income for each keyword. I have created a formula which calculates it but can't figure out how to limit the Monthly Budget. • Squibbly Update: Multiple Document Support

  An update on Squibbly, the recently announced free and open source integration framework for LibreOffice! Now multiple documents can be opened at the same time, either from "File | Open File" or from the File Browser (i.e., the rebranded Favorites window). Click to enlarge the image below to get a fuller perspective on Squibbly: Take note of the tabs at the bottom of the editor-area in the screenshot above, and especially when you click the image to enlarge it. Multiple tabs are available at the same time, each representing a different open document. Click a different tab and its document is activated and brought to the front of the application. That means multiple LibreOffice applications can be used simultaneously, each could be undocked from the frame of the application, and the user can work with multiple documents, from multiple LibreOffice applications, all at the same time. • Optical Character Recognition software recommendations?

  I have seen some ebooks/papers that were apparently scanned from their paper versions but the text in the ebooks/papers can amazingly be copied out. I suppose the directly-scanned versions must have been processed by some Optical Character Recognition software. So I would like to know what are the recommended Optical Character Recognition softwares? Especially those that are either for Ubuntu or free? If those for Windows are far more superior, please let me know as well. I am particularly interested in those OCRs that can accept a scanned pdf file as input and still produce as output another pdf file that looks the same as the input one but with its text copyable.
