• How to read in text from the visual studio debug output window

  I've read several articles that tell you how to add text to the output window in visual studio from within an Add-On (specifically, a visual studio 2008 integration package, via the visual studio 2008 SDK 1.1), but no examples of how to read text from the output window. My goal is to parse text from the debug output window while debugging a certain application (TRACE output and possibly stdin/stdout). The IVsOutputWindowPane interface has no methods for reading in text from the output window. The documentation seems to imply that it is possible, but it doesn't provide an example: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb166236(VS.80).aspx Quote: In addition, the OutputWindow and OutputWindowPane objects add some higher-level functionality to make it easier to enumerate the Output window panes and to retrieve text from the panes. Preferably I'd like to be able to subscribe to an event that fires when a new line of text arrives, similar to a StreamReader's asynchronous reads.

• Spring redirect: prefix issue

  Hello, I have an application which uses Spring 3. I have a view resolver which builds my views based on a String. So in my controllers I have methods like this one. @RequestMapping(...) public String method(){ //Some proccessing return "tiles:tileName" } I need to return a RedirectView to solve the duplicate submission due to updating the page in the browser, so I have thought to use Spring redirect: prefix. The problem is that it only redirects when I user a URL alter the prefix (not with a name a resolver can understand). I wanted to do something like this: @RequestMapping(...) public String method(){ //Some proccessing return "redirect:tiles:tileName" } Is there any way to use RedirectView with the String (the resolvable view name) I get from the every controller method?   In ASP.NET MVC 2, a couple of new action filter attributes were introduced, as "shorthand" for attributes in ASP.NET MVC 1; for example, applying the HttpPostAttribute does the same thing as applying [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)] to an action method. In addition, with the more verbose syntax, it is possible to combine different methods, in order to allow for example both Post and Delete. Now I'm wondering: how do the new attributes work? If I apply both [HttpPost] and [HttpDelete], will ASP.NET MVC 2 allow both or require both (thus allowing nothing)?

• Passing a string from C# to cpp with COM

  I have a C# COM server which is consumed by a cpp client. One of the C# methods returns a string. In cpp the returned string is represented in Unicode (UTF-16), at least according to the memory view. Is this always the case with COM strings? Is there a way to use UTF-8 instead? I saw some code where strings were passed between cpp and c# as byte arrays. Is there any benefit in this?

• How do I give each test its own TestResults folder?

  I have a set of unit tests, each with a bunch of methods, each of which produces output in the TestResults folder. At the moment, all the test files are jumbled up in this folder, but I'd like to bring some order to the chaos. Ideally, I'd like to have a folder for each test method. I know I can go round adding code to each test to make it produce output in a subfolder instead, but I was wondering if there was a way to control the output folder location with the Visual Studio unit test framework, perhaps using an initialization method on each test class so that any new tests added automatically get their own output folder without needing copy/pasted boilerplate code?

  I am extending the existing .NET framework class by deriving it. How do I convert an object of base type to derived type? public class Results { //Framework methods } public class MyResults : Results { //Nothing here } //I call the framework method public static MyResults GetResults() { Results results = new Results(); //Results results = new MyResults(); //tried this as well. results = CallFrameworkMethod(); return (MyResults)results; //Throws runtime exception } I understand that this happens as I am trying to cast a base type to a derived type and if derived type has additional properties, then the memory is not allocated. When I do add the additional properties, I don't care if they are initialized to null. How do I do this without doing a manual copy?

"What is one of, or some of, the best methods or techniques to keep database changes documented, organized, and yet able to roll out effectively either in a single-developer or multi-developer environment." This may involve stored procedures and other object scripts, but especially schemas - from documentation, to the new physical update scripts, to rollout, and then full-circle. There are applications to make this happen, but require schema hooks and overhead. I would rather like to know about techniques used without a lot of extra third-party involvement.

• Retrieving Data from SQL Server within Excel 2007

  I have the following requirements I have relational content stored in a SQL Server 2005 database. I want to retrieve this data, transform it and display it in an Excel 2007 document. I would like this to be pulled from within Excel at the click of a button. As far as I can tell I have the following options... Create a view in Sql Server and reference it within a pivot table using a data connection. Create an Excel workbook using VSTO and create a web service which the workbook pulls data from Create a web service and use JScript with XMLHTTP request objects I currently only have a little experience of any of these methods (I'm very familiar with SQL Server although not pivot tables, I've created many web services although I've never used VSTO and I've used javascript extensively, but never in the context of Excel manipulation). Would you recommend one of the above approaches or is there a better way to do this?

• NSInteger differences between CLI and GUI ?

  I've been building a framework and writing unit tests in GHUnit. One of my Framework's accessor methods returns an NSInteger. I assert the expected value in the tests like this: GHAssertEquals(1320, request.port, @"Port number should be 1320"); When running my tests with an AppKit UI based frontend this assertion passes. However, when I run my tests on the command line, it fails with a type-mismatch unless I type-cast my hard-coded 1320 as (NSInteger). What's causing the difference in the way the integer is being interpreted by the compiler? Is xcodebuild on the command line using a different data-type for hard coded integers?

  My solution has a C# application project C# User Controls project C++ Mathematics project One of the UserControls uses function from the Mathematics (C++ project). This UserControl is used in the application. Building and starting the application works just fine. When typing the IntelliSense suggests all the contained classes and methods. The UserControl appears correctly, but on clicking a button which calls the C++ function I get a BadImageFormatException (it pops out on the end of the automatically created Main function). The help suggests to use /fixed:no for linking, but that is already set up.

  I have read on MSDN(see Important note) that RSACryptoServiceProvider must be disposed. They give the example: using (RSACryptoServiceProvider RSA = new RSACryptoServiceProvider()) Now I'm trying to include RSACryptoServiceProvider into MyClass making use of it in several Methods. With this setup I cannot use the using statement. Instead I try to call the .Dispose() Method of the RSACryptoServiceProvider object at a suitable time but then I get the compile error message: `System.Security.Cryptography.AsymmetricAlgorithm.Dispose(bool)' is inaccessible due to its protection level Is RSACryptoServiceProvider not supposed to be used longer than one function call(using the using statement)? How can I fix this, is not making the Dispose call an option?

• Help a Python newbie with a Django model inheritance problem

  I'm working on my first real Django project after years of PHP programming, and I am running into a problem with my models. First, I noticed that I was copying and pasting code between the models, and being a diligent OO programmer I decided to make a parent class that the other models could inherit from: class Common(model.Model): self.name = models.CharField(max_length=255) date_created = models.DateTimeField(auto_now_add=True) date_modified = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True) def __unicode__(self): return self.name class Meta: abstract=True So far so good. Now all my other models extend "Common" and have names and dates like I want. However, I have a class for "Categories" were the name has to be unique. I assume there should be a relatively simple way for me to access the name attribute from Common and make it unique. However, the different methods I have tried to use have all failed. For example: class Category(Common): def __init__(self, *args, **kwargs): self.name.unique=True Spits up the error "Caught an exception while rendering: 'Category' object has no attribute 'name' Can someone point me in the right direction?

• What is the best option for reading Java property files?

  Hello I have an application which uses a servlet to read an intialization parameter from web.xml for the location of a property file. The serlvet then creates an instance of a class which stores the location of the file for other programs to read as required. This class has appropriate get and set methods. But my question concerns access to the properties: should the physical property file be read by each program as at runtime or should the properties be stored in memory instead? The properties are not currently altered at runtime but this could change? I've seen various alternative approaches but am not sure which is best. Thanks Mr Morgan

  Hi All, From 4.0 apple has extended their api support to access the videos and photos from the phone. I am using only iPhone 4.0 simulator to test my application. When I try to save the video as apple has mentioned in their api docs, its giving the error something like "Error Saving the Asset". The way I try to store the video is as follows : ALAssetsLibraryWriteVideoCompletionBlock _videoCompblock = ^(NSURL *assetURL, NSError *error){ if(assetURL) { NSLog(@"Video AssetUrl : %@", [assetURL absoluteString]); } else if(error) { NSLog(@"The Error occured : %@", [error localizedDescription]); } }; BOOL isSupported = [library deoAtPathIsCompatibleWithSavedPhotosAlbum:videoFileUrl]; if(isSupported) { [library writeVideoAtPathToSavedPhotosAlbum:videoFileUrl completionBlock:_videoCompblock]; } The above methods should print the url of the video on successful saving of the video file.   I realised double checked locking is flawed in java due to the memory model, but that is usually associated with the singleton pattern and optimizing the creation of the singleton. What about under this case in objective-c: I have a boolean flag to determine if my application is streaming data or not.   While ASP.NET MVC seems to be a viable technology praised by a lot of developers, I can't seem to find enough reasons to devote my energy and time for it. The main reason is that I don't find enough .NET jobs asking for it. Companies still use WebForms and it works just fine for them. I am not self employed where I get to choose the technology I like. I would rather use my time improve my skills in SilverLight, JQuery, Javascript, SQL, LINQ.. etc. Even Photoshop! So I got interested in webformsmvp.com. I get to still use WebForms and use better testing methods. Anyone who has experience with it can tell me what they didn't like about it?

• Getting black images with selenium.captureScreenshot

  I'm executing selenium tests with testng, that are started on a remote system with Selenium RC via hudson (with ssh connection). The remote system is windows xp with MKS Toolkit installed, hence ssh. Tests are NOT executed as a windows service. I've tried using both captureScreenshot and captureEntirePageScreenshot methods. The first one always produces a black image. The second one creates the correct screen shot but it only works on Firefox and our tests usually pass on Firefox and fail in other browsers, so it is crucial to capture screen shots for the other browsers (mainly IE and Safari). The tests are ran in parallel, with many browser windows open at the same time. I'm not certain if this is what's causing the problem. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

  So I found some similarities between arrays and set notation while learning about sets and sequences in precalc e.g. set notation: {a | cond } = { a1, a2, a3, a4, ..., an} given that n is the domain (or index) of the array, a subset of Natural numbers (or unsigned integer). Most programming languages would provide similar methods to arrays that are applied to sets e.g. upperbounds & lowerbounds; possibly suprema and infima too. Where did arrays come from?

• Graphviz DOT arange Nodes in circles

  OK here's my problem, I'm generating a graph of a python module, including all the files with their functions/methods/classes. I want to arrange it so, that nodes gather in circles around their parent nodes, currently everything is on one gargantuan horizontal row, which makes the thing 50k pixels wide and also let's the svg converter fail(only renders about the half of the graph). I went trough the docs(http://www.graphviz.org/doc/info/attrs.html) but couldn't find anything that seems to do the trick. So the question is: Is there a simple way to do this or do I have to layout the whole thing by myself? :/

  Hi, i an new to iphone Dev and the concept of CFUUID, so thought i should ask, before i start implementing it. so the string returned by CFUUID is it really unique or can it be traced back to a unique individual. meaning lets say, i generate a CFUUID object and convert it to string(using the methods provided) , and then this info is used in my app or stored on a server database. and how unique is it, i mean is their a chance it can be similar to one generated on some other device. is it a good idea to use this info freely or are their some security/privacy aspects that i am not thinking about here. any help is greatly appreciated thanks
