• Assembly unavailable after Web.config change

  I'm using a custom framework that uses reflection to do a GetTypeByName(string fullName) on the fully-qualified type name that it gets from the database, to create an instance of said type and add it to the page, resulting in a standard modular kind of thing. GetTypeByName is a utility function of mine that simply iterates through Thread.GetDomain().GetAssemblies(), then performs an assembly.GetType(fullName) to find the relevant type. Obviously this result gets cached for future reference and speed. However, I'm experiencing some issues whereby if the web.config gets updated (and, in some scarier instances if the application pool gets recycled) then it will lose all knowledge of certain assemblies, resulting in the inability to render an instance of the module type. Debugging shows that the missing assembly literally does not exist in the current thread assemblies list. To get around this I added a second check which is a bit dirty but recurses through the /bin/ directory's DLLs and checks that each one exists in the assemblies list. If it doesn't, it loads it using Assembly.Load and fixing the context issue thanks to 'Solving the Assembly Load Context Problem'. This would work, only it seems that (and I'm aware this shouldn't be possible) some projects still have access to the missing assembly, for example my actual web project rather than the framework itself - and it then complains that duplicate references have been added! Has anyone ever heard of anything like this, or have any ideas why an assembly would simply drop out of existence on a config change? Short of a solution, what is the most elegant workaround to get all the assemblies in the bin to reload? It needs to be all in one "hit" so that the site visitors don't see any difference other than a small delay, so an app_offline.htm file is out of the question. Programatically renaming a DLL in the bin and then naming it back does work, but requires "modify" permissions for the IIS user account, which is insane. • restrict script inside iframe to run only within pages of same top-level domain?

  I'd like to enforce a requirement that client script inside a page (which in turn is loaded inside an iframe of another page) will only run when the parent page is on the same top-level domain as the framed page (although it may be on another hostname in that domain). Is this do-able? I assume that the easy solution of looking at top.location.host won't be available due to cross-site scripting limitations, but I'm wondering if other javascript hackery could suffice. Constraints on any potential solution inculde: I need to be able to run XmlHttpRequest calls inside the child page, and I need to validate that the hostname is in the same domain before I make those calls. (this makes a document.domain solution challenging because AFAIK setting document.domain disables the ability to make XmlHttpRequest calls. I can control client-side script and HTML on both parent or child (and I can create new pages if needed), but I can't make any server-side code changes. I can't simulate the above via server-side calls or proxies, because the child page's hostname uses a forms auth system with hostname-scoped cookies that I can't get access to from the parent page since it's on a different hostname. I don't have enough control over the child-frame site to be able to put both sites behind the same reverse-proxy or load-balancer (which would enable me to put both sites on the same hostname). I don't actually need to access any UI inside the IFrame-- the iframe is invisible and I'm only using it to run javascript within the security context of a site on a different hostname from the parent page. So at this point I'm stumped. Got any ideas? I want to make sure I'm not overlooking an easy solution before giving up.

• How to use generic (NSObject) controller with subviews of a UIViewController?

  I have a UIViewController that is loading several subviews at different times based on user interaction. I originally built all of these subviews in code, with no nib files. Now I am moving to nib files with custom UIView subclasses. Some of these subviews display static data, and I am using loadNibNamed:owner:options: to load them into the view controller. Others contain controls that I need to access. I (sort of) understand the reasons Apple says to use one view controller per screen of content, using generic controller objects (NSObjects) to manage subsections of a screen. So I need a view controller, a generic controller, a view class and a nib. How do I put this all together? My working assumptions and subsequent questions: I will associate the view class with the nib in the 'class identity' drop down in IB. The view controller will coordinate overall screen interactions. When necessary, it will create an instance of the generic controller. Does the generic controller load the nib? How? Do I define the outlets and actions in that view class, or should they be in the generic controller? How do I pass messages between the view controller and the generic controller? If anyone can point me to some sample code using a controller in this way, it will go a long way to helping me understand. None of the books or stackoverflow posts I've read have quite hit the spot yet.

• Efficient Method for Preventing Hotlinking via .htaccess

  I need to confirm something before I go accuse someone of ... well I'd rather not say. The problem: We allow users to upload images and embed them within text on our site. In the past we allowed users to hotlink to our images as well, but due to server load we unfortunately had to stop this. Current "solution": The method the programmer used to solve our "too many connections" issue was to rename the file that receives and processes image requests (image_request.php) to image_request2.php, and replace the contents of the original with <?php header("HTTP/1.1 500 Internal Server Error") ; ?> Obviously this has caused all images with their src attribute pointing to the original image_request.php to be broken, and is also the wrong code to be sending in this case. Proposed solution: I feel a more elegant solution would be: In .htaccess If the request is for image_request.php Check referrer If referrer is not our site, send the appropriate header If referrer is our site, proceed to image_request.php and process image request What I would like to know is: Compared to simply returning a 500 for each request to image_request.php: How much more load would be incurred if we were to use my proposed alternative solution outlined above? Is there a better way to do this? Our main concern is that the site stays up. I am not willing to agree that breaking all internally linked images is the best / only way to solve this. I refuse to tell our users that because of something WE changed they must now manually change the embed code in all their previously uploaded content.

  I'm trying to extract the StateLongName and StateShortName values from the xml below. Load the xml from above into a Javascript variable name xml. Try #1 $(xml).find("TABLE").each(function() { var stateName = $(this).find("StateLongName").innerText; var stateCode = $(this).find("StateShortName").innerText; }); Try #1 doesn't find anything and never goes inside to load the stateName and stateCode variables. Try #2 $(xml).find("StateLongName").each(function() { var stateName = $(this).find("StateLongName").innerText; var stateCode = $(this).find("StateShortName").innerText; }); Try #2 does find matches, however the stateName and stateCode are left undefined. Try #3 $(xml).find("StateLongName").each(function() { var stateName = $($(xml).find('StateLongName').parent()[0].innerHTML)[1].data; var stateCode = $($(xml).find('StateLongName').parent()[0].innerHTML)[5].data; }); Try #3 works but there has to be a better way.   Hi I have been trying to understand DDD for few weeks now. Its very confusing. I dont understand how I organise my projects. I have lot of questions on UnitOfWork, Repository, Associations and the list goes on... Lets take a simple example. Album and Tracks. Album: AlbumId, Name, ListOf Tracks Tracks: TrackId, Name Question1: Should i expose Tracks as a IList/IEnumerabe property on Album ? If that how do i add an album ? OR should i expose a ReadOnlyCollection of Tracks and expose a AddTrack method? Question2: How do i load Tracks for Album [assuming lazy loading]? should the getter check for null and then use a repository to load the tracks if need be? Question3: How do we organise the assemblies. Like what does each assembly have? Model.dll - does it only have the domain entities? Where do the repositories go? Interfaces and implementations both. Can i define IAlbumRepository in Model.dll? Infrastructure.dll : what shold this have? Question4: Where is unit of work defined? How do repository and unit of work communicate? [ or should they ] for example. if i need to add multiple tracks to album, again should this be defined as AddTrack on Album OR should there a method in the repository? Regardless of where the method is, how do I implement unit of work here? Question5: Should the UI use Infrastructure..dll or should there be ServiceLayer? Do my quesitons make sense? Regards

• VB.NET switching from ADO.NET to LINQ

  I'm VERY new to Linq. I have an application I wrote that is in VB.NET 2.0. Works great, but I'd like to switch this application to Linq. I use ADO.NET to load XML into a datatable. The XML file has about 90,000 records in it. I then use the Datatable.Select to perform searches against that Datatable. The search control is a free form textbox. So if the user types in terms it searches instantly. Any further terms that are typed in continue to restrict the results. So you can type in Bob, or type in Bob Barker. Or type in Bob Barker Price is Right. The more criteria typed in the more narrowed your result. I bind the results to a gridview. Moving forward what all do I need to do? From a high level, I assume I need to: 1) Go to Project Properties -- Advanced Compiler Settings and change the Target framework to 3.5 from 2.0. 2) Add the reference to System.XML.Linq, Add the Imports statement to the classes. So I'm not sure what the best approach is going forward after that. I assume I use XDocument.Load, then my search subroutine runs against the XDocument. Do I just do the standard Linq query for this sort of repeated search? Like so: var people = from phonebook in doc.Root.Elements("phonebook") where phonebook.Element("userid") = "whatever" select phonebook; Any tips on how to best implement?

  Hi, I was suggested when I have some further questions on my older ones, to create newer Question and reffer to old one. So, this is the original question: What is the C runtime library? OK, from your answers, I now get thet statically linked libraries are Microsoft implementation of C standart functions. Now: If I get it right, the scheme would be as follow: I want to use printf(), so I must include which just tels compiler there us functio printf() with these parameters. Now, when I compile code, becouse printf() is defined in C Standart Library, and becouse Microsoft decided to name it C Run Time library, it gets automatically statically linked from libcmt.lib (if libcmt.lib is set in compiler) at compile time. I ask, becouse on wikipedia, in article about runtime library there is that runtime library is linked in runtime, but .lib files are linked at compile time, am I right? Now, what confuses me. There is .dll version of C standart library. But I thought that to link .dll file, you must actually call winapi program to load that library. So, how can be these functions dynamically linked, if there is no static library to provide code to tell Windows to load desired functions from dll? And really last question on this subject - are C Standart library functions also calls to winapi even they are not .dll files like more advanced WinAPI functions? I mean, in the end to access framebuffer and print something you must tell Windows to do it, since OS cannot let you directly manipulate HW. I think of it like the OS must be written to support all C standart library functions same way across similiar versions, since they are statically linked, and can differently support more complex WinAPI calls becouse new version of OS can have adjustements in the .dll file.

• ASP.NET retrieve Average CPU Usage

  Last night I did a load test on a site. I found that one of my shared caches is a bottleneck. I'm using a ReaderWriterLockSlim to control the updates of the data. Unfortunately at one point there are ~200 requests trying to update the data at approximately the same time. This also coincided with CPU usage spikes. The data being updated is in the ASP.NET Cache. What I'd like to do is if the CPU usage is around 75%, I'd like to just skip the cache and hit the database on another machine. My problem is that I don't know how expensive it is to create a new performance counter to check the cpu usage. Also, if I would probably like the average cpu usage over the last 2 or 3 seconds. However, I can't sit there and calculate the cpu time as that would take longer than it's taking to update the cache currently. Is there an easy way to get the average CPU usage? Are there any drawbacks to this? I'm also considering totaling the wait count for the lock and then at a certain threshold switch over to the database. The concern I had with this approach would be that changing hardware might allow more locks with less of a strain on the system. And also finding the right balance for the threshold would be cumbersome and it doesn't take into account any other load on the machine. But it's a simple approach, and simple is 99% of the time better.

  Folks, i'm having trouble with some navigation logic. Currently i have a simple two tabbed tabbar application. But i want to show a loginscreen in front. So that would be an UIView. Well, now i want to have a login screen. So that would be a simple UIView which pushes the tabbar controller. But i can't seem to see the logic on how to do this. I've been trying to present a modal view controller, but the thing is: the tabbar will be loaded on the background. Since i need the username/password information to work on the tabbarview, this won't work. My Logic would be: delegate load loginViewController load tabbar controller But, then i need to be able to "logout". So i need to destroy the tabbar controller and present the login screen. Any thoughts on this?

• How can I execute a .sql from C#?

  For some integration tests I want to connect to the database and run a .sql file that has the schema needed for the tests to actually run, including GO statements. How can I execute the .sql file? (or is this totally the wrong way to go?) (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). I was told to go and download that DLL from somewhere, but that sounds very hacky. Is there a cleaner way to? Is there another way to do it? What am I doing wrong? I'm doing this with Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008, .Net 3.5SP1 and C# 3.0.

• Efficient Clojure workflow?

  I am developing a pet project with Clojure, but wonder if I can speed up my workflow a bit. My current workflow (with Compojure) is: Start Swank with lein swank. Go to Emacs, connect with M-x slime-connect. Load all existing source files one by one. This also starts a Jetty server and an application. Write some code in REPL. When satisfied with experiments, write a full version of a construct I had in mind. Eval (C-c C-c) it. Switch REPL to namespace where this construct resides and test it. Switch to browser and reload browser tab with the affected page. Tweak the code, eval it, check in the browser. Repeat any of the above. There are a number of annoyances with it: I have to switch between Emacs and the browser (or browsers if I am testing things like templating with multiple browsers) all the time. Is there a common idiom to automate this? I used to have a JavaScript bit that reloads the page continuously, but it's of limited utility, obviously, when I have to interact with the page for more than a few seconds. My JVM instance becomes "dirty" when I experiment and write test functions. Basically namespaces become polluted, especially if I'm refactoring and moving the functions between namespaces. This can lead to symbol collisions and I need to restart Swank. Can I undef a symbol? I load all source files one by one (C-c C-k) upon restarting Swank. I suspect I'm doing it all wrong. Switching between the REPL and the file editor can be a bit irritating, especially when I have a lot of Emacs tabs open, alongside the browser(s). I'm looking for ways to improve the above points and the entire workflow in general, so I'd appreciate if you'd share yours. P. S. I have also used Vimclojure before, so Vimclojure-based workflows are welcome too.

• How do I get a ComboBox SelectionChanged event to fire from a nested ListBoxItem?

  This is a rather complex problem that has me really confused right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The Setup: ListBox of Type A UserControls -ListBoxItem of Type A UserControl --ListBox of Type B UserControls ---ListBoxItem of Type B UserControl ----ListBox of Type C UserControls -----ListBoxItem of Type C UserControl (contains the ComboBox) In other words, the Type A control has a ListBox of Type B controls that has a ListBox of Type C controls. All of the controls are hierarchical in nature. Type A contains the data that's needed to load the Type B controls and the Type B contains the data that's needed to load the Type C controls. The Type C control has a standard ComboBox in it for changing the values of the present items. In addition to the above structure, I have drag and dropping tied to the PreviewMouseLeftButtonDown event on both the Type A and Type B UserControl levels to handle reordering/deleting/etc commands in the GUI. All of this is working as intended. The Problem: When I attempt to change the value in the ComboBox, the SelectionChanged event never fires on the Type C "level" unless I'm careful enough to click on the borders/spacing in between any Type A or B controls. This happens when my ComboBox popout menu overlaps on either a Type A or B control located below itself. The selection events for Type A or B are firing instead of the Type C events, so the ComboBox is never changing its value reliably. In the debugger, the code for handling the drag and drop is triggering on the next ListBoxItem that's located underneath the ComboBox. Thoughts: Is there a way I can make my ComboBox popup take prevalence over the items behind it while double-nested in a ListBox (ie, ignore anything behind it while it's open)? Is there some way to reroute the incorrectly firing SelectionChanged events down to the ComboBox that's supposed to be triggering them?

  Hi, I am having problems using the jquery cycle lite plugin on some images that are added via AJAX. However the prev/next buttons don't work. When I load the images via static HTML the slideshow prev/next links works fine. (I just copied and pasted the generated HTML.) I understand I need to use something like .bind or .live to make the Cycle plugin 'see' the new images. I have tried everything I can think of but I can't make it work. What am I doing wrong ?

• Servlet Mapping Help - Possible to Avoid Referencing Context Name?

  Hi all, I am working on a Spring application and trying to get my URL mapping correct. What I would like to have work is the following: http://localhost:8080/idptest -> doesn't work But instead, I have to reference the context name in my URL in order to resolve the mapping: http://localhost:8080/<context_name>/idptest -> works How can I avoid the requirement of referencing the context name in my URL without using a rewrite/proxy engine e.g. Apache? • Rapid calls to fread crashes the application

  I'm writing a function to load a wave file and, in the process, split the data into 2 separate buffers if it's stereo. The program gets to i = 18 and crashes during the left channel fread pass. (You can ignore the couts, they are just there for debugging.) • Why the composite component fails to parent controls?

  Hi, I created my own Component : TPage , which Contains Subcomponent TPaper (TPanel). • Ninject giving NullReferenceException

  I'm using asp.net MVC 2 and Ninject 2. The setup is very simple. Controller calls service that calls repository. In my controller I use inject to instantiate the service classes with no problem. But the service classes don't instantiate the repositories, giving me NullReferenceException. public class BaseController : Controller { [Inject] public IRoundService roundService { get; set; } } This works. But then this does not... public class BaseService { [Inject] public IRoundRepository roundRepository { get; set; } } Giving a NullReferenceException, when I try to use the roundRepository in my RoundService class. • How to control the order of module initialization in Prism

  I'm using Prism V2 with a DirectoryModuleCatalog and I need the modules to be initialized in a certain order. The desired order is specified with an attribute on each IModule implementation. This is so that as each module is initialized, they add their View into a TabControl region and the order of the tabs needs to be deterministic and controlled by the module author. The order does not imply a dependency, but rather just an order that they should be initialized in. In other words: modules A, B, and C may have priorities of 1, 2, and 3 respectively. B does not have a dependency on A - it just needs to get loaded into the TabControl region after A. So that we have a deterministic and controllable order of the tabs. Also, B might not exist at runtime; so they would load as A, C because the priority should determine the order (1, 3). If i used the ModuleDependency, then module "C" will not be able to load w/o all of it's dependencies. I can manage the logic of how to sort the modules, but i can't figure out where to put said logic.
