  I am working on Solaris 10, Sun Studio 11. I am refactoring some old code, and trying to write unit tests for them. My make file looks like: my_model.o:my_model.cc CC -c my_model.cc -I/../../include -library=stlport4 -instances=extern unit_test: unit_test.o my_model.o symbol_dictionary.o CC -o unit_test unit_test.o my_model.o symbol_dictionary.o -I../../include \ -library=stlport4 -instances=extern unit_test.o: unit_test.cc CC -c unit_test.cc -I/../../include -library=stlport4 -instances=extern symbol_dictionary.o: cd ../../test-fixtures && ($MAKE) symbol_dictionary.o mv ../../test-fixtures/symbol_dictionary.o . In the ../../test-fixtures makefile, I have the following target: symbol_dictionary.o: CC -c symbol_dictionary.cc -I/../../include -library=stlport4 -instances=extern I do the instances=extern because I had linking problems before, and this was the recommended solution. The consequence is in each directory that is being compiled, a SunWS_Cache directory is created to store the template instances. This is the long way to get to this question. Is it a standard practice to consolidate object files in a single directory before you link them?

• How do I use a batch copy to update files?

  Hello, I need help writing a batch file to update templates on a database. Basically, all our clients have their own folder, with multiple templates inside. Due to the computer illiteracy of my office (sigh), there's no real better way to fix this. However, I need a way to update those templates in a batch. For instance \\SERVER\New Client Template Folder\Correspondence\Transmittal Letter.WPD is updated. I then need to copy it to: \\SERVER\Client Files\Client 1\Correspondence; \\SERVER\Client Files\Client 2\Correspondence; ...etc. Essentially, I need to copy to \\SERVER\Client Files\\*\\, and I need to make it a batch file that I can train someone else to use whenever I leave this job. How can I do that? Thanks.

• Is there a way to undo Mocha stubbing of any_instance?

  Within my controller specs I am stubbing out valid? for some routing tests, (based on Ryan Bates nifty_scaffold) as follows :- it "create action should render new template when model is invalid" do Company.any_instance.stubs(:valid?).returns(false) post :create response.should render_template(:new) end This is fine when I test the controllers in isolation. I also have the following in my model spec it "is valid with valid attributes" do @company.should be_valid end Again this works fine when tested in isolation. The problem comes if I run spec for both models and controllers. The model test always fails as the valid? method has been stubbed out. Is there a way for me to remove the stubbing of any_instance when the controller test is torn down. I have got around the problem by running the tests in reverse alphabetic sequence to ensure the model tests run before the controllers but I really don't like my tests being sequence dependant.

  Hi, I display some data on my website and one of the data feed elements is an image. [title] => Product title [description] => some description [image] => www.some-domain.com/product-image/p12345.jpg I then display this image using <img alt="product" src="<?=$data['image']?>" /> Most of the images are 80x80, 120x100 or other less than 150 in width, which perfectly fit in the website template, but some of them are quite large such as 800x600 which distort the layout. I want a control on these types. I tried to set WIDTH="150", but as the width vary they dont look good. I was thinking If I could set a fixed width to images, say, larger than 250px then I can live with it for now. Any ideas how to achieve this? Thanks

  Trying to get SpecFlow running with a fresh VS2010 Professional install. Created a new console application and added references to NUnit and SpecFlow. Created a SpecFlow feature. The .feature with the default template code is created. Now I try to run this test, but I don't understand how. When I right-click the project (at the top-level), there is no "Run test(s)" option in the mouse drop down menu. Didn't the SpecFlow install correctly, am I missing some references or some other tool I need to install?

  I am reading the web-routes tutorial in Happstack, and I have no idea what this is doing: $(derivePathInfo ''Sitemap) class PathInfo a where toPathSegments :: a -> [String] fromPathSegments :: URLParser a The doc simply says: we use template-haskell to derive an instance of PathInfo for the Sitemap type. but where does it "store" it? I thought haskell had no state, and is PathInfo our own thing, or is it part of happstack? If someone could explain this, for dummies? Thanks.

• How can I use different metadata for a Dynamic Data form view and the list view?

  We often need a summarised list view with more detailed form view. So far, the only two way I can think of doing this are using a 'custom' list or form view than uses a sumplimentary 'remove' or 'add' list of fields anb generalise this over all entity sets, or create a custom metadata provider that infers somehow which columns to supply. Are there any other ways of distinguishing these two views? PS, I wrote a fun little general details page, that handles insert, edit, and view, all on one page template. Maybe I could somehow use that? It's here.

  Hi, I'm starting new website and gonna include several JS libs and would like to know how .htaccess file template should look like with caching of media and JS files on? Whats better for compression, GZip or Deflate? Is it better/faster solution to serve those JS libs of the Google CDN perhaps then locally? I'm asking CDN question since some of scripts served off GoogleCDN are potentially going to update and eventually break the website layout so i thought it would be better for me to host them locally and cache via webserver if its going to work with same/near-same speed.

• Most efficient way to fetch and output Content with 2-Level Comments?

  I have some content with up to 2-levels of replies. I am wondering what the most efficient way to fetch and output the replies. I should note that I am planning on storing the comments with fields content_id and reply_to, where reply_to refers to which comment it is in reply to (if any). Any criticism on this design is welcome. In pseudo-code (ish), my first attempt would be: # in outputting content CONTENT_ID all_comments = fetch all comments where content_id == CONTENT_ID root_comments = filter all_comments with reply_to == None children_comments = filter all_comments with reply_to != None output_comments = list() for each root_comment children = filter children_comments, reply_to == root_comment.id output_coments.append( (root_comment, children) ) send output_comments to template Is this the best way to do this? Thanks in advance. Edit: On second thought, I'll want to preserve date-order on the comments, so I'll have to do this a bit differently, or at least just sort the comments afterward.

I cannot find the document that describes how to write custom form fields and widgets. Does this document exist? The way I've been able to write custom form fields and widgets is by reading the Django source code and imitating what I see there. I know that there are still things about implementing fields and widgets that I do not completely understand because I have not read any high level document that describes their interfaces.

• Counts of events grouped by date in python?

  This is no doubt another noobish question, but I'll ask it anyways: I have a data set of events with exact datetime in UTC. I'd like to create a line chart showing total number of events by day (date) in the specified date range. Right now I can retrieve the total data set for the needed date range, but then I need to go through it and count up for each date. The app is running on google app engine and is using python. What is the best way to create a new data set showing date and corresponding counts (including if there were no events on that date) that I can then use to pass this info to a django template? Data set for this example looks like this: class Event(db.Model): event_name = db.StringProperty() doe = db.DateTimeProperty() dlu = db.DateTimeProperty() user = db.UserProperty() Ideally, I want something with date and count for that date.   Hi, Is it possible to access a parent class from within an attribute. For example I would like to create a DropDownListAttribute which can be applied to a property of a viewmodel class in MVC and then create a drop down list from an editor template. I am following a similar line as Kazi Manzur Rashid here. He adds the collection of categories into viewdata and retrieves them using the key supplied to the attribute. I would like to do something like the below, public ExampleDropDownViewModel { public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> Categories {get;set;} [DropDownList("Categories")] public int CategoryID { get;set; } } The attribute takes the name of the property containing the collection to bind to. I can't figure out how to access a property on the parent class of the attribute. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks

• Get products to display on custom Magento page

  How can you get products to display on a custom Magento page? Naturally, this is not an uncommon question but nothing that I've seen has solved it for me. The common response is to put the following code in through the CMS editor: {{block type="catalog/product_list" name="home.catalog.product.list" alias="products_homepage” template=”catalog/product/list.phtml”}} Which just displays the message "There are no products matching the selection." on my page. Other websites advise reindexing the data through the Magento admin controls, clearing the Magento cache, and making sure products are set to a store, none of which helped in my case. Anyone have any ideas?

  I have a simple navigation based iPhone app, in which user can navigate form one view to another view. There is only one view which have 4 tab. Each tab loads a a seperate nib with a corresponding controller. Each nib contains a tableview with some other controls for searching/filtering etc. Apprt from this I dont need tabBar in any view. So for ex: Login View Welcome View (With TabBar) user select Setting tab and select any setting option Setting Detail view(WITHOUT tabbar) Back WelcomView( With Tab Bar) I am confused how to add a tab bar in navigation based template where only one view is using tabBar all other uses Navigation I hope you understand my problem. • Why is url not registered?(Drupal 6.x)

  I'm using hook_menu to register new url so that accessing this url would return some data to ajax function. As title suggested, this url is not registered. How do I know that? I've tried typing this in address bar but, drupal, return main template only rather than the tests string that I created. I'm positive that my module is working for php issues error if I intentionally write wrong syntax. And, yes, I clear cache whenever I make changes.   Is there a way to display User fields under a form that adds/edits a UserProfile model? I am extending default Django User model like this: class UserProfile(models.Model): user = models.OneToOneField(User, unique=True) about = models.TextField(blank=True) I know that it is possible to make a: class UserProfileInlineAdmin(admin.TabularInline): and then inline this in User ModelAdmin but I want to achieve the opposite effect, something like inverse inlining, displaying the fields of the model pointed by the OneToOne Relationship (User) in the page of the model defining the relationship (UserProfile). I don't care if it would be in the admin or in a custom view/template. I just need to know how to achieve this. I've been struggling with ModelForms and Formsets, I know the answer is somewhere there, but my little experience in Django doesn't allow me to come up with the solution yet. A little example would be really helpful!

  I am trying to implement WordPress into quite a large site with a complex page structure and struggling to get normal pages to work (not created through the admin) The pages are created, but when I link to them, nothing happens... The desired url - www.website.com/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The actual url- www.website.com/wp-content/themes/themename/dir1/dir2/dir3/page.php The problem with linking to the latter is that it breaks the WordPress functions I don't want to have to give every page a template, then add it through the admin, it is too much work. I only need 2 pages to contain dynamic content. Am I being silly? I am really confused.

  According to the C++ ISO spec, §26.2/2: The effect of instantiating the template complex for any type other than float, double or long double is unspecified. Why would the standard authors explicitly add this restriction? This makes it unspecified, for example, what happens if you make complex<int> or a complex<MyCustomFixedPointType> and seems like an artificial restriction. Is there a reason for this limitation? Is there a workaround if you want to instantiate complex with your own custom type? I'm primarily asking this question because of this earlier question, in which the OP was confused as to why abs was giving bizarre outputs for complex<int>. That said, this still doesn't quite make sense given that we also might want to make complex numbers out of fixed-points types, higher-precision real numbers, etc. Thanks!

• Modular HTML in Adobe AIR? Is It Possible?

  When I write HTML with a PHP backend, I usually have a single header file and a single footer file with some PHP variables in them. The base skeleton for every page calls the header, contains the body content, and then calls the footer. That way, if I want to make changes to the header sitewide, I change one file. I'm working on developing the UI in my first Adobe AIR app and I'm wondering if there's some way to include such files in an HTML based page template there. Obviously, with the file read/write abilities in AIR, I can write a Javascript routine to pull data from a header file, parse it, and inject it into a placeholder. It just seems like such a kludge. I'm thinking there's gotta be some simple way to import a block of HTML into a page without an iFrame or complex post-processor. Something like a PHP include statement or perhaps the old Server Side Includes. Any methods you guys can recommend?

• Setting a Global Doctype

  Is it possible using PHP (I was thinking may the phpinfo file or a php.ini file) or an .htaccess file to set a doctype for an entire subdirectory? Basically, in a nutshell, I'm using a software that uses XSL templates to output data to a set of HTML files. Modifying the xsl:output tag to include the doctype breaks the template and therefore, does not work. Just adding the doctype in the XSL file, breaks it as well. I need the proper doctypes in place for my CSS to function properly, cross-browser. I realize that I could add the doctype to the HTML files after export but, I'm really striving to automate this process. Any thoughts?

• Setting id to a panel control in gridview

  I have a panel control in gridview's template. I need to hide/unhide panel in javascript function, for that i need to pass panel's id to the javascript. The problem is that all panels have the same id in gridview, so I need to set unique id to each panel. I tried to do: <asp:Panel id= "Panel_<%# Eval("ID")%>" and some other variations but always get an error. The panel contains some other controls, I need it to be server side because I need to set at code-behind (after checking if user is authenticated) What can I do? p.s. It doesn't have to be Panel, any other control that I can find with Findcontrol and can hold other controls.
