• Can't kill process TGitCache.exe

  Sometimes, I suspect when I open a music folder during the right moon phase and during a leap microsecond, this process crashes and pops up an error reporting dialogue. I decline to report the error, because that also fails by now, and choose Exit. Exit just delays the re-appearance of the error reporting dialogue for about 2 seconds. If I try and kill the process using SysInternals' Process Explorer the process is just restarted, only to crash again. So, I'm pretty sure another process, probably a service because TGitCache doesn't have a parent process and no other Git processes are visible, is keeping tabs on this process and restarting it if it dies. This is cruel and inhuman, but how can I find which nanny process is prolonging the agony?

  when doing simple query on 4 inner joined tables, the server crashes with the output below appearing in the the mysql .err file. eg. select * from table1 inner join table2 on table1.a = table2.a and table1.b = table2.b inner join table3 on table2.a = table3.a and table2.c = table3.c inner join table4 on table3.a = table4.a and table3.d = table4.d If i remove one of the tables it executes fine. Likewise if I remove a different table, it executes fine. Though all tables have been checked anyway, this would suggest that it is not a problem specifically with one of the tables. mysql.err trace: 100503 18:13:19 - mysqld got signal 11 ; This could be because you hit a bug. • Thunderbird segmentation fault problem

  Hey all, my thunderbird crashes few seconds after it boots up regardless of in safe mode or normal, here is a strace log: http://pastebin.com/tccfYwcD I've searched google, ubuntu forums, and mozilla bug tracker about this problem, but any of found answers did not helped me :/ I've tried: nscd daemon install solutions posted earlier fresh clean instal of ubuntu 10.10 (32b) and thunderbird 3.1.7 from repos on a VM - problem still exists removed all thunderbrid related dot files and dot dirs, and setup profile from beginning Remove thunderbird and related stuff with apt purge, and install tb from official .deb package None of these steps helps me, tb still crashes with segmentation fault :/ I use gmail IMAP account, I've searched and found few other tips on google, but with no success. I've even tried to remove mails from web gui, that came after first notice of problem, still no luck. I'm not using any network fs, and not sharing this account with anyone, and I do not use filesystem or home encryption either just clean install :/ If You guys need some more info for this let me know. • What's the easiest way to allow Exchange 2003 remote (no MSO client) users check their Mailbox size?

  We are migrating from Exchange 2003 with no quota settings to Exchange 2010 with limited mailbox sizes. We are trying to get users to clean their mailboxes prior to the move to reduce the transfer load, as well as to comply with new quotas on the 2010 system. But many users access their mail through webmail only. I cannot see a way for users to access their mail store size in this manner. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a good way to easily let users check their own mailbox size? The only thing I've come up with as a workaround is a report that IT generates and mail-merge it out to users daily with their current mailbox size. This is cumbersome and time consuming compared to a way for them to check their own mailbox size however.

• Interface to collect successful remote backups status

  I would like to deploy into our infrastructure a web interface that could register when the copies are finished and if for some reason they haven't. The current issue is that we are doing on site backups for customers, for each backup a mail is sent ad the end of the backup, the problems is that sometimes the mail isn't sent for a variety of reasons: System doesn't have internet Backup system crashed before sending the mail etc.. What I'd like to do is to have a web interface that the backup software cant visit after doing the backup (either if it's a success or a fail), that acknowledges that the backup has finished, after some time, I'd like to receive a report of the machines that hadn't done the backup. Is there anything remotely similar to this that I could use/adapt to our environment? UPDATE: Just found out this (paessler.com) that seems to be a privative solution of what I intended.

It's clear that this is not possible. Why do I get 127.0.0.1 as IP? cystat bug? some weird network trick I am not aware of? or is my website really running on an iPhone, and the guy at the applestore is reading my blog ?

• SharePoint MOSS - Serve HTTP content on an HTTPS page without Mixed Content Warning?

  Our "portal-like" SharePoint site is served using HTTPS/SSL. So a user goes to https://web.company.com and sees content and different Web Parts. So far, no problem. The desire now is to have new Web Parts added that either frame HTTP content (such as Weather Bug) or HTTP RSS feeds. The issue that arises is that by doing this, results in a "Mixed Content" warning in the browser. Has anybody successfully been able to implement such a scenario, or one similar to it? The options we have looked at, unsuccessfully, have been: using Apache Reverse Proxy Server mirror an external site Custom Web Parts

  So I've managed to setup bind9 and a mail server, but it seems there is something wrong. I don't quite under stand this error: The configuration of your mail servers and your DNS are not ok! The report of the test is: mail.domain.com. - mail.domain.com - 208.xxx.xxx.xxx - lisa.domain.com Spam recognition software and RFC821 4.3 (also RFC2821 4.3.1) state that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting MUST have an A record pointing back to the same server. Can anyone explain this to me in a bit more detail, and maybe point me in a direction to solve this?

• PHP5 giving failed to open stream: HTTP request failed error when using fopen.

  Hello everyone. This problem seems to have been discussed in the past everywhere on google and here, but I have yet to find a solution. A very simple fopen gives me a PHP Warning: fopen(http://www.google.ca): failed to open stream: HTTP request failed!". The URL I am fetching have no importance because even when I fetch http://www.google.com it doesnt work. The exact same script works on different server. The one failing is Ubuntu 10.04 and PHP 5.3.2. This is not a problem in my script, it's something different in my server or it might be a bug in PHP. I have tried using a user_agent in php.ini but no success. My allow_url_fopen is set to On. If you have any ideas, feel free!

• What's wrong with my MAC address?

  I have a D-Link DSL-2650U router, and exactly one computer on the network. For reasons of port forwarding I want to give my computer a static internal IP address, so that I don't take the chance of losing my NAT settings every time the computer reboots. So here's a screen shot that summarizes the entire problem: WTH is wrong with my MAC address? It's copied and pasted from the command prompt window! I tried editing out the dashes, but it still doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a bug in the D-Link firmware?

• Word suddenly always on top, how to get rid of this?

  For one reason or another, my Word suddenly decided to stay always on top of all other windows. This is terribly annoying. The odd thing is: of three documents I have open, two are on top of everything else, and one behaves normal. I found one other mention of this behavior. I wonder whether this is a known bug and whether there's a workaround. Sometimes closing all windows helps, but later the behavior creeps back. Other Office products don't seem to show this behavior. I'm using Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, 14.0.4760.1000 (64 bit).

• Rsync over NFS with QoS: How to view real transfer speed?

  We have a bandwidth limit between a Linux server and a NAS, created using 'tc' with an IP filter. When writing to an NFS mount of the NAS, rsync claims a very high transfer speed for each file and then waits a long time before acknowledging that everything has finished. The total time taken is consistent with the QoS limit and the time taken by the same transfer over FTP. Why does the write to the NFS mount report higher transfer speeds than are actually happening over the network? How can I monitor the actual bandwidth of the transfer?

• Training a spam filter based on Mailman moderator's actions?

  I'm planning a Mailman server, and looking for a good way to enable list moderators train a spam filter (likely to be either spamassassin or dspam). Has anyone come up with a good way to run training based on list moderator's decisions? Currently I don't have any better strategies than asking list moderators to forward spams one by one to a training address, which seems laborious and most likely to be inconsistently applied. Any ideas? I am aware of https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/558292 . I'm hoping someone has a better approach.

  I'm googling for a while about how can I install Gentoo on Virtual Box. The hand book provides less information about installing it on virtual box rather on a real partition. I thought there will be a GUI tool to install Gentoo. [Now I think there is not :(] Whenever I'm booting into gentoo Im going into a LiveDVD environment where fdisk returning "command not found !" (Not sure this is a bug or Im using a wronng command) Now Im not a very exprienced user but do like to learn and play with Gentoo. Any help link will be appriciated. I need also a .txt report that describes all files/folders added to destfolder and files that were renamed. How can I accomplish this?

• Text Formatting toolbar continuously disappears in Impress (open office)

  This is a very weird and annoying problem. Not sure if it's a bug or a "feature" I'm using OpenOffice 3.2 (within Ubuntu 10.04). The Text Formatting toolbars disappear in many circumstances, e.g. each time I click out of a writing area. It's becoming very time consuming to go to View-Toolbars-TextFormatting to re-enable it each time. 3 questions: is this expected behavior, and if so, is there any setting where I can change it? (note this wasn't happening in the past with other presentation I made)? is there a workaround, such as defining a shortcut like CTRL-whatever that would make the toolbar appearing without menu joggling? is anybody experiencing this too, especially someone using LibreOffice?

  I am able to send email to individual users but when not when they are in a distribution group. When I do I get this report. The message could not be delivered because the recipient's destination email system is unknown or invalid. Please check the address and try again, or contact your system administrator to verify connectivity to the email system of the recipient. #5.3.1 However, like I said before I can select their name from the GAL and send mail that way. Their email address is exactly the same in both the GAL and distribution group. The only difference is these users have external email addresses. Windows Server 2003 Exchange Server 2003 Outlook 2007 and 2010.

• Missing characters when printing in linux

  I have a pdf that I was printing recently, and on the final printout there is a single character that doesn't print. It is the greek letter phi, and the pdf was built with pdflatex. The phi shows up in every pdf reader I have tried, and if I convert to a ps using pdftops before printing that solves the problem. Also, I sent the pdf to a buddy who has a very similar machine (Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit, with the same printer drivers), and he was able to print it (to the same printer) and the character showed up. Clearly I have a workaround, but I'm more curious as to where I should be looking to figure out what is causing this bug? What is the printing "toolchain", and where could it be going wrong?

• Workstation 7 build 203739 - Capture Movie Mouse Pointer Not Visible

  Hi, I have noticed that whenever I create a Capture Movie, the movie is fine but the mouse pointer is not visible at all. The clicks are on buttons file menus are executed but is hard for a viewer of the capturre movie session to follow the recording smoothly. This was not a problem in previous versions of WorkStation. Is this a bug or is there a setting I can set to see the mouse pointer? Note: VM Tools are installed, Host is Vista Ultimate Edtion SP1, x64 and the guest is a Win XP SP2.   Hello, I have a project where we need a completely redundant system like the one offered by Remus with a Xen virtualization system. I wondered if there is a system like this one built by VMWare or some other company because the project is a very critical one and we do not want to have to wait that a bug is fixed by "the community" and money is not a problem. What Remus does is to build a completely redundant system where you can shutdown one machine and the other continues the work where the other left it maintaining the network connections opened, etc Any hint? • Clicking on Dock icon does not bring window on top (OS X Lion)

  I am using OS X Lion and I have a very annoying problem with windows not showing up when I click on Dock icons. It happens when I have some windows opened in one space but I am viewing another space at the moment. For example, I have Mail and Skype on space #2 but I am on space #1. Note that all windows are not minimized. I want to quickly switch to Mail. So I click on Mail icon in Dock, it switches the space to #2, menubar shows that active window is Mail but Mail window is actually below Skype window. The strangest thing is that sometimes it works as expected showing the Mail on top. I can't see any logic here, it's absolutely unpredictable, thus annoying. Does anyone experienced such problems? I wonder if it's a bug or correct behaviour. Is there any way to fix that?

• Expanding RAID 1 array size (Adaptec 1420SA controller)

  I have an Adaptec 1420SA controller in server and RAID 1 array created. The old disks slowly started to report S.M.A.R.T errors so I replaced first one, rebuild array and then other one and rebuild the array again. But the new drives are bigger, so I'd like to expand the array to use full disk capacity. Is it somehow possible? In the Adaptec configuration utility, after POST, I didn't found anything that could do it. I still have the old drives, if it helps. The array is used for system (Windows 2008 R2 SP1) booting. • FeedValidator & Feedburner get 404 when accessing wordpress RSS feeds when permalinks are enabled.

  I'm helping a friend set up a self-hosted Wordpress blog + feedburner and I'm seeing a problem with the feeds that I'm finding somewhat mysterious. Using the default permalink structure (e.g., ?p=123) everything works as expected; I can follow the feed in Google reader, navigate to it manually, and set it up in feedburner. However, once I switch away from the default permalink structure, feedburner and feedvalidator both report that accessing the feed is returning HTTP-404 and Google reader no longer shows new posts (I'm assuming for the same reason), but I can navigate to the feed using a browser. When I do that it appears as though nothing is wrong; there is a feed there and it contains all the posts I expect it to have. I've re-started the feedburner & reader set-up from the beginning after changing the link structure, so I don't think they're doing anything silly like looking at the feed at its old address. I've seen people with similar problems in various other places but there doesn't seem to be a good answer anywhere.

  What good software is available (free or not free) to help me keep track of information relating to hundreds of servers, their relationships to each other (parent/child, category, type), and information on connecting to them, as well as possibly showing a picture or grid of some kind that allows me to report these relationships and key information to my supervisor. I am trying to avoid the "spreadsheet solution" or "visio solution" because I want to share this information and make changes with other persons in my server team. In other words, the solution I am looking for is a cross between a spreadsheet solution and a visio solution, providing both graphing and configuration information WITHOUT monitoring, and in a consistent format.

• Running a webserver behind a firewall, is it secure?

  Currently we have a Linux-based firewall which NAT-ing our public IP address to give internet access to our staff's PCs and a Windows Server 2003 for internal filesharing. I want to host Redmine/SVN (a bugtracker) internally behind this firewall using a Linux server. This webserver will be accessed by our clients externally so they can post bug reports. This means that I have to open port 80 & 22 at the firewall to give access to the webserver and me to SSH it from home. However, let's say I'm using password-based SSH for the webserver and somebody cracked it. Does that mean the cracker could ping and access other servers and PCs in the network?
