• Excel 2010 -Excel cannot complete this task with available resources

  Getting this error when trying to sort a document (Excel cannot complete this task with available resources). Document isn't particularly large, about 4,000 lines. Can't seem to figure out why this would start on this. I can sort this same file fine on everything back to Excel 2000 on older crappy computers. Computer is running Win 7 x64, 16 Gb RAM, and another 16 Gb of virtual. There's no possible way that all of the memory is actually getting exhausted when I can perform this on an older XP machine with 512 Mb of RAM, unless 2010's memory usage is inconceivably poorly designed. I found a few posts on forums stating that there might be a security update related bug. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  We had done a PCI scan on one of our servers running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with apache 2.2.22.The scan reported a vulnerability in apache 2.2.22 (Apache HTTP Server Zero-Length Directory Name in LD_LIBRARY_PATH Vulnerability).The report states to updgrade the version to the latest stable release of either 2.2.23 or 2.4.2.How do I upgrade to the 2.2.23 to fix the vulnerability or is there a patch available that can fix this and if yes can you let me know how that can be patched. • icons in windows 7 taskbar moving by themselves

  I'm using Windows 7 64 bit. Few days ago I pinned another one application to taskbar and moved it to the left side. But it moved to the right by itself! I tried to return it to the left side but it went to the right again. The same thing happens now with another application (I've uninstalled the application from the first paragraph - not because of a bug, I just don't like it). It's really annoying. I want it on the left side! How to lock it in? I don't know why but it have (2) in the taskbar shortcut's name: 'Mindjet MindManager 8 (2)'

• How to Check the Performance of VPS?

  I have subscribed to a VPS offered by a hosting provider. The guaranteed performance 1GB RAM, 1M bandwidth. But I found that from time to time the websites can be very slow, so slow that it could take more than 30 seconds to load a simple Joomla website. However the website resumed the usual speed after a few minutes. This created a problem for me when I want to report the performance problem to the hosting provider. They would say to me "see, no problem". Of course there is no problem because the problem is only there for a few minutes , and everything is normal. This ocassionally-slow problem will bug me a few days later and the cycle repeats. Any idea how to solve this problem?

  I am using automongobackup to, well, automate the backups of mongodb. output from the script (to STDERR) has the following exceptions (but the backup completes, and the dump files are created) ###### WARNING ###### STDERR written to during mongodump execution. Why would automongobackup report connection errors, even tho it does create the dump files, yet a straight call to mongodump does not? • Backup all plesk MySQL Databases to individual files

  Hy, Because I'm new to shell scripting I need a hand. I currently backup all mydatabases to a single file, thing that makes the restore preaty hard. The second problem that my MySQL password dosen't work because of a Plesk bug and i get the password from "/etc/psa/.psa.shadow". Here is the code that I use to backup all my databases to a single file. mysqldump -uadmin -p`cat /etc/psa/.psa.shadow` --all-databases | bzip2 -c > /root/21.10.2013.sql.bz2 I found some scripts on the web that backup each database to individual files but I don't know how to make them work for my situation. Here is a example script: for db in $(mysql -e 'show databases' -s --skip-column-names); do mysqldump $db | gzip > "/backups/mysqldump-$(hostname)-$db-$(date +%Y-%m-%d-%H.%M.%S).gz"; done Can someone help me make the script above work for my situation? • ionice idle is ignored

  I have been testing the ionice command for a while and the idle (3) mode seems to be ignored in most cases. My test is to run both command at the same time: du <big folder> ionice -c 3 du <another big folder> If I check both process in iotop I see no difference in the percentage of io utilization for each process. To provide more information about the CFQ scheduler I'm using a 3.5.0 linux kernel. I started doing this test because I'm experimenting a system lag each time a daily cron job updatedb.mlocate is executed in my Ubuntu 12.10 machine. If you check the /etc/cron.daily/mlocate file you realize that the command is executed like: /usr/bin/ionice -c3 /usr/bin/updatedb.mlocate Also, the funny thing is that whenever my system for some reason starts using swap memory, the updatedb.mlocate io process is been scheduled faster than kswapd0 process, and then my system gets stuck. • How do I remove 1,000,000 directories?

  I found that in a directory more than 1,000,000 subdirectories has been created due to a bug. I want to remove all these directories, let's say in the directory WebsiteCache. My first approach was to use the command line tool: cd WebsiteCache rmdir /Q /S . This will remove all subdirectories except the directory WebsiteCache itself, since it is the current working directory. I noticed after two hours that the directoriws starting with A-H have been removed. Why does rmdir removes the directories in alphabetical order? It must take additional effort to do this ordered. What is the fastest way to delete such an amount of directories?

  I am having a problem with a regular expression on vim. I have a pattern as follows: http:\/\/\(\w\+\.\?\)\+ [matches http://(AS MANY WORDS FOLLOWED BY DOT OR NOT ENCOUNTERS) e.g. http://wd1.wd2.com] I have a text as follows: http://wd1.wd2.com/wd3 I am trying to make this substitution on it: s/\(http:\/\/\)\(\w\+\.\?\)\+/\1wd4.wd5.com and the result is http://wd4.wd5.com /wd3 (Notice the white space inserted at the end of the replacement) How can I avoid having this inserted space? I am afraid is a bug in the regexp engine but I am not sure.

• What does it mean for a computer to be an "IBM Compatible PC"?

  A couple questions about this: 1) Is this term even relevant any more? 2) Does this mean anything from a developer's stand point? It is not exactly clear to me if this is a BIOS, architecture, bus or a combination. A piece of software I'm working on expects to see a "Description" of the system and currently windows machines report "AT/AT Compatible". Having been tasked to port this to Mac, I really don't know what a proper "Description" would be - this will most likely be omitted but I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on the modern usage of this term.

• Avoid Windows Explorer to load complete executable file

  On Windows Vista, when browsing to a network folder containing executables, Windows Explorer seems to load all the files completely just to be able to show the executable icon (the resource monitor indicates loads of traffic during the loading of the directory) On XP only a part of the file is loaded. Is there a way to avoid the complete loading of these files? Note that disabling my anti virus does not help. Update: This only happens with for executable linked with /SWAPRUN:NET. Microsoft confirmed this as a bug in Vista, but they seem not very eager to fix this.

• What is causing my wireless problems?

  I have a Dell XPS M1330, since I moved to my new house, the wireless barely works on it, my housemates report no problems, so I guess it's something to do with my laptop. It's eratic in normal mode, sometimes not working for days, usually working on-and-off, forcing me to reload pages a few times before they work, etc. It works perfectly in safe mode, the driver I'm using is the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection, version 12.4.4.5, with a date at 26/10/2009, the most recent one I could find, bluetooth is not enabled, and I'm running Vista 32-bit Home Premium, which it shipped with. I also tried disabling IPv6 and resetting the IP stack, both to no avail. Can anybody help me?

• nfs mount fails in Ubuntu 10, but not with -v

  (1) mount -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (2) mount -v -t nfs remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint -o owner,rw (1) Used to work with Ubuntu 9 and now fails with Ubuntu 10 (2.6.32-21-generic kernel) with the error: mount.nfs: an incorrect mount option was specified Strangely, adding -v (verbose) in (2) makes the problem go away. This is currently a blocker for me because the fstab line: remotehost:/remotedir localmountpoint nfs owner,rw 0 0 causes the same error (I don't believe I can specify verbose in fstab). Is this a bug in mount or my options really incorrect?

• Windows XP doesn't like small subnets?

  This totally sounds like a bug to me, because my subnet mask and IP address should be valid by all accounts. My ISP has assigned me a fixed IP address of 65.110.7.20, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.252. Which sounds about right, because we're trying to set up a router with a /31 network - just 4 ip addresses. But when I try to set this IP and netmask up in Windows XP, I get the following error: "The combination of IP address and subnet mask are invalid. All of the bits in the host address portion of the IP address are set to 0." But they're not all set to 0. That would be a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255. Even then, that too is a valid subnet mask, consisting of a network of 1 IP address. Is there a way around this? A registry hack maybe?

• Is there a way to create a copy-on-write copy of a directory?

  I'm thinking of a situation where I would have something that creates a copy of a directory, tweaks a few files, and then does some processing on the result. This wold be done fairly often, maybe a few dozen times a day. (The exact use case is testing patch submissions; dupe the code, patch it, build/test/report/etc.) What I'm looking for could be done by creating a new directory structure and populating it with hard links from the origonal. However this only works if all the tools you use delete and recreate files rather than edit them in place. Is there a way to have the file system do copy-on-write for a file? Note: I'm aware that many FSs use COW at a block level (all updates are done via writes to new blocks) but this is not what I want.

  I am looking for some ideas on what would be the best way to discover and manage network storage. Discovery: Any good tools that will scan hosts and storage devices and report back their findings? Maybe using SNMP or WMI? Management: I'm currently looking at Storage Manager by Solar Winds, but it is a bit pricey. Any good open source projects like this? Just looking for ideas of how to get better visibility into the storage infrastructure on this network. It includes a HP Lefthand Iscsi san and EC VNX san. • SVN Checkout error on large repositories

  I wonder if anyone can help me. We have recently migrated our Subversion repository from a VisualSVN Server on Windows to a subversion server on CentOS. The migration was succesfull however we are getting the following error message Error REPORT of svn'/svn/MangoRepository/!svn/vcc/default': Could not read chunk size: Error connection was closed by server (http://servername) Now the workaround for this is simply to perform a update on the repo and it will contine where is left off. Im just wondering if anyone was a permanent fix for this as it can be quite frustrating to repeat my self to 60-70 developers.

• Why do I get a PHP 5.2.6 segmentation fault when using PDO_SQlite?

  This is an installation on ModWest's shared hosting. I have enabled both PDO and PDO_sqlite on the server and phpinfo() verifies both are running. When I access PDO itself, I'm fine, and getting a meaningful error. <?php $dbh = new PDO(""); ?> This gives me an "Invalid Connection String" error. But, as soon as I begin a connection string with sqlite:, I get a total crash. When I run via the webserver, I'm seeing NO error. When I enter a nonexistant filename, PHP does indeed create the file. I tried running the constructor via CLI and there I do get a simple error: Segmentation Fault I'm not seeing ANYTHING in the PHP 5.2.6 changelogs about this bug. Anyone have any additional troubleshooting steps? The OS is Debian 5.0.4

• Skype audio always goes 'robotic' for the same user

  Someone I talk to on Skype a lot has a very persistent issue, where after a few minutes their voice goes very 'robotic'... still understandable but annoying. We can restart the call and it's fine, but fairly consistently after a few minutes it returns. He experiences this with other people too, not just me - I don't have anyone report problems with my audio quality. This is not an ISP issue - he gets the same problem on multiple PCs in different countries, in fact he's even recently moved to a different continent and got a new internet connection... same problem. It seems somehow to be a problem with his Skype account, which is really quite odd. It's been going on for months of not longer.

• I need to make Windows 7 STOP disabling the wifi adapter when the wired LAN is connected

  This is a Dell Latitude E6430. There is a setting in the bios to control this behavior and I have DISABLED it but it still happens. I am also running the latest bios. When I plug in a network cable the wifi adapter becomes disabled. I need it to stay enabled. What else could be making this happen? EDIT: The reason I need to do this is because with NETSH WLAN commands you can create a wifi hotspot by sharing the internet connection on the wired adapter and broadcasting a ssid on the virtual wifi nic. I do this all the time but it's not working on this laptop. I'm wondering if it's a network security thing where I am. I'm going to try from my hotel tonight and report back.

• Measuring custom statistics with sar

  I have a server application which I think is leaking file handles. I want to track the usage of file descriptors over time on my Linux (ubuntu) server. I've figured out that I can track the number of file descriptors in use by a process with lsof -p `pgrep the-process-name` | wc -l Since I'm already using sysstat and sar to track various metrics, I thought it'd be nice to display with sar. I want to measure this every 10 minutes. Is it possible to add a custom metric to sar? Then I can easily report it out. If not, I'll write a simple cron job to collect this data and store it separately in a log file.

  Hello, Environment: Windows Server 2008 R2 fully patched, working as Domain Controller in Win 2003 native domain. Users started to report problems with share, it turned out that server service won't start. I've scrambled google but can't find a thing. Any ideas will be appreciated. Thanks in advance :) Service fails to start, then when starting service I get: Windows could not start the Server service on SERVERNAME. Error 1079: The account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.
