jquery beginner: change background on click

I'm trying to change the background of an element on click based on the current color. Here's the relevant html: <div id="rect" style="height: 100px; width:300px; background: red"> </div> and my jquery attempt: $("#rect").click(function() { if ($(this).css('background') == 'red') { $(this).css('background','blue');} else {$(this).css('background','yellow');} }); I'm always getting a yellow box; the 'true' condition never fires. Javascript Animation Toogle

I am new to JavaScript (I had some lessons in school but those were basically basics of all basics :) ) and I am seeking for help with this animation made from scratch. Here is a code that I wrote: http://jsfiddle.net/bPZeH/1/. What it basically does is that it animates height of one div. What I would like to know is, how to write the function startAnimation(), so that if I click on the div while it is being animated, it will reverse animation (for instance: instead of animating height from 150px to 400px it will stop at the current value and then animate back to 150px). I basically want to make toogle from one value to the other. It would also be okay if it were able to toogle only after the animation has finished, but I would prefer the first option. Struts2 scriptlet

Using struts2 with jsp with standard struts tag libraries. I'm trying to dynamically hide a DIV on page load, but still send it to the browser. This is so I can show it later via javascript. The request objects one and two are not easily referenced via a jsp:usebean tag. (They are enums and cannot be instantiated) I tried using a combination of s:if tags or c:if tags and it just looks ugly. <% String displayStr = "display: none;"; if(request.getAttribute("one") != null || request.getAttribute("two") != null ) { displayStr = "display: block;"; } %> <div id="next" style="<%=displayStr %>"> Any suggestions for a better way to do this?

I need to do a simple string replace operation on a segment of string. I ran into the following issue and hope to get some advice. In the original string I got, I can replace the string such as to something else. BUT, in the same original string, if I want to replace a much long string such as the following, it won’t work. Basically, I am attempting to render an external website (the url of which is stored in the database) into a page in my Ruby on Rails app. I have a field in my model 'search' called 'search' that contains web addresses with the form 'www.example.com' or 'example.com'. I am trying to use a link_to_function call with replace_html to replace the 'maincontent' div with an iframe tag using the value of 'search' in the current instance as the src for the tag. My current attempt is the very ugly code below. I'd be grateful for either of the following types of responses: How can I rewrite the concatenation string to work correctly? How can I get the same effect (replacing the current content of the "mainContent" div with an iframe tag using a different method? Im doing some jquery stuff with toggle(), I'm doing different actions depending on if the current div is closing or showing, i know i can easy check if a div hasClass() or is(':visible') for what i want to do, but I'm thinking maybe there is somehow that i can reduce the amount of code or just do it more efficient? like declare the toggle() with two functions that this is for when its showing and this is for when its closing, is this possible? hope you get what i mean? like this, or check a jsfiddle $('#click_me').on('click', function() { $('#contain').toogle('blind', 300, function (){ alert('open'); }, function (){ alert('close'); }); });

Display username to logged in user only?

I have a Wordpress blog set up to display comments as "Anonymous User" by hard coding it into the comments.php file. I would like to have it say the user's Username next to their comment and ONLY display that Username to THEM. In other words, if they're a guest, they'll see "Anonymous User" and if they're a registered/logged in DIFFERENT user, they'll still see "Anonymous User", but if it's THEIR comment it'll say "Your Comment" or their own username. I have this HTML: <div id='grid'> <input type="button" value="edit"/> <input type='button' value='update'/> </div> How to I attach a click event only to Update button. I know I could add a class to it or specity an id but both are not possible since it is in gridview. I tried this: $("input:button[@value='update']").click(function(){alert('test');}); but it displays an alert for both buttons. I know I must be doing something silly. Any help is much appreciated. youtube api: display speaker statements like a caption

I'm doing something similar to close caption but not exactly the same. I have a youtube video, and I want to display certain messages at specific points in the video. When the video loads, I pull entries from the database in the format time and sentence. For example, at 0:20 the speaker says "don't forget to write down my email that you see on the side" and I want to display the email on the side. At 0:50, he says "and I'll post my office hours" so I want to show those office hours at that time. How can I do this. The video itself is hosted on youtube, but is being displayed on a private website. The div where I want to display the messages is <div id="write">.

setTimeout is acting weird

I am trying to make a simple setTimeout, to make a div tag invisible after 2 seconds. The setTimeout function makes the div invisible but irregularly, sometimes immediately and sometimes after 1 sec, and so on. jQuery: Any way to "refresh" event handlers?

I have two divs, one that holds some stuff and the other with all possible stuff. Clicking on one of the divs will transfer items to the other div. The code I came up with is: $("#holder > *").each(function() { $(this).click(function(e) { $(this).remove(); $("#bucket").append(this); }); }); $("#bucket > *").each(function() { $(this).click(function(e) { $(this).remove(); $("#holder").append(this); }); }); This one works perfectly, except that the event handlers need to be refreshed once I append or remove elements. What I mean is, if I first click on an element, it gets added to the other div, but if I click on this element again, nothing happens. I can do this manually but is there a better way to achieve this?
