Please note you will need to configure JDeveloper for Internet access (In HTTP Proxy preferences) in order the install the extension, as the installation process will prompt you for a license that's linked off Oracle's web site. • Analysing SQLBits Feedback

  Earlier this week I received all the feedback that people offered on my session at SQLBits 7 in York – “SSIS Dataflow Performance Tuning” (the video is available online if you wish to see it). As you may have gathered from previous posts on this blog and my less-SQLy-focused Wordpress blog I am a big fan of collecting and tracking both personal and public data and session feedback lends itself very well to tracking because it is quantitative rather than qualitative; by that I mean attendees are invited to provide marks out of ten rather than (or, in the case of SQLBits, as well as) written comments. The SQLBits feedback is also useful because they use a consistent format – the same questions are asked each time – this means it is particularly easy to to track whether the scores that people give are trending up or down. I suspect that somewhere the SQLBits organisers have a big Analysis Services cube (ok, perhaps its an Excel pivot table) that allows them to analyse these scores per conference, speaker, track etc.… and there’s no reason that we as session speakers cannot do the same thing. To that end I have started to store my feedback in an Excel spreadsheet of my own which in the interests of transparency is available for public viewing (only a web browser required) on SkyDrive at http://cid-550f681dad532637.office.live.com/view.aspx/Public/Misc/Personal%20SQLBits%20Session%20Feedback.xlsx. I have used a pivot table to aggregate all that feedback and here is a screenshot: I am hereby making a public plea to the SQLBits organisers (on the off-chance that they are reading) to please continue to keep the feedback format consistent in the future and I encourage them to publish all of the feedback in an anonymised form. I would also encourage anyone doing conference speaking to track their conference feedback in the same way that I am doing so that you get an insight into whether or not you are improving over time. It is not difficult to setup and maintaining it as you do more sessions takes very little effort. Storing feedback data like this leads me to wider thoughts about well-known conventions and data format standardisation. Let’s imagine a utopia where there were a standard set of questions for capturing session feedback that were leveraged at every conference regardless of subject matter, location or culture; that would give rise to immense cross-conference and cross-discipline analysis – the data analyst in me goes giddy at the thought of it. It is scenarios like this that drive my interest both in data formats such as iCalendar, microformats and RDF, and in emerging movements such as the semantic web and linked data, all things which I have written about in the past. I don’t know whether we will ever reach the stage where every piece of data has structured, descriptive metadata associated with it but I live in hope. @Jamiet

• ecommerce item deleted by user, 301 rediret to HOME PAGE or 404 not found?

  I know this question is someway similar to this one where they reccomend using 404, but after reading this other one where they suggest to use 301 when changing site urls (in the specific case was due to redesign/refactoring) I get a bit of confused and I hope someone could clarify for this specific example: Let's say I have an ecommerce site, let's also say the final user inserted some interesting items in the site and the ecommerce webapp created the item pages at the urls: http://...?id=20, http://...?id=30 etc. Now let's say some of these interesting items got many external links toward them from many other sites because some people found those items very interesting and linked to them. After some years the final user deletes those items, so obviously the pages/urls http://...?id=20, http://...?id=30, etc. now do not exist anymore, but still many pages on the web are linking toward them. What should the ecommerce site do now, just show a 404 page for those items? But, I'm confused, wouldn't this loose all the Google PR passed by the external links to the items pages? So isn't it better to use 301 redirect to HOME PAGE that at least passes the PR to the HOME PAGE? Thanks, EDIT: Well, according to answeres the best thing to do so far is to do a 404/410. In order to make this question more complete, I would like to talk about a special case, just to make sure I understood. properly. Let's say the user creates those items again (the ones he previously deleted at point 4), maybe he changes a bit their names and description, but they are basically the same items. The webapp has no way to know these new added items were the old items so it obviously create them as new items with new urls http://...?id=100, http://...?id=101, does it makes sense at this point to redirect 301 the old urls to the new ones? MORE EDIT (It would be VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND): Well according to the clever answers received so far it seems for the special case, explained in my last EDIT, I could use 301, since it's something of not deceptive cause basically the new pages is a replacement for the old page in term of contents. This is basically done to keep the PR passed from external link and also for better user experience. But beside the user experince, that is discussible (*1), in order to preserve PR from external broken linlks why not just always use 301, In my understanding Google dislikes duplicated contents, but are we sure that 301 redirect to HOME PAGE is seen as duplicated contents for Google?! Google itself suggests to redircet 301 index.html to document root so if they consider 301 as duplicated contents wouldn't that be considered duplicated contents too?! Why do they suggest it? Let me provoke you: “why not just add a 301 to HOME PAGE for every not found page?” (*1) as a user, when I follo a broken url from some external link to some website's page I would stick more on this website if I get redirected to HOME PAGE rather than seeing a 404 page where I would think the webiste does not even exist anymore and maybe I don't even try to go to HOME PAGE of the website.

• The partition table is corrupt

  I have a corrupt the partition table on the laptop that is running Ubunutu 10.4. Before the partition table was corrupt I had the following partitions: 2 primary partitions: 1st - NTFS 2nd - Extended 4 logical partitons that are built within 2nd extended: 1st NTFS (68 Gib) 2nd Linux (19 Gib) 3rd Swap (1.4 Gib) 4th Linux (24 Gib) The physical order of these partitions was the following: ( 4th Linux ) - ( 1st NTFS ) - ( 2nd Linux ) - ( 3rd Swap ) The logical order of the partition was different: ( 1st NTFS ) - ( 2nd Linux ) - ( 3rd Swap ) ( 4th Linux ) NTFS partition was big and it resided between 2 Linux partitions, neither of these partitions had enough space to install Oracle 11g. Therefore, I decided to a) either move the NTFS partion to the left or b) remove it completely and extend partition where Linux resides. As I tool I have chosen GParted. But unfortunately it was not able to move the partition because he found that in NTFS partition there are some blocks that are referenced multiple times. Also it was not able to remove the partition neither, because in this case the partitions that follow it ( 2nd Linux ) - ( 3rd Swap ) have to be in his opinion also removed, because the organization of extended partition is a linked list. Since GParted was not able to do such thing I was trying to find another tool. I found diskdrake tool on PSLinuxOS distribution of linux. That tool silently deleted ( 1st NTFS ) partition and I thought that everything was fine. But diskdrake has damaged the partition in a way that I am not able either to boot from the hard disk nor to see the partitions with GParted and even with diskdrake itself! Fortunately I have a live CD of Ubuntu 8.10 and I am able to boot and see hard disk. I have 2 ideas how I can solve the problem: 1) Manually change disk partitions and point them to the correct partitions. 2) Create partition table with GParted that as much as possible is the same with the previous one I find the 2nd approach less time consuming but some data will be lost because of it is not possible to place borders of the partitions exactly how it was before. And moreover I am not sure if such approach would work, for example, if the OS is able to locate files after repartitioning. I feel like that it will but not 100% sure. Are there some ideas how the problem may be solved?

• Complete Beginner to Game Programming and Unreal Engine 4, Looking For Advice [on hold]

  I am currently a 2nd year programming student(Just finished my first year so I will be starting my second year in September) and have mainly learned C and C++ in my classes. In terms of what I know of C++, I know about general inheritance, polymorphism, overloading operators, iterators, a little bit about templates(only class and function templates) etc. but not of the more advanced topics like linked lists and other sequential containers(containers in general I guess), enumerations, most of the standard library(other than like strings and vectors), and probably a bunch of other stuff I dont even know about yet. I subscribed to Unreal Engine 4 as I was very intrigued by their Unreal Tournament announcement earlier this month, especially after hearing that UE4 is going completely C++. Of course my end goal in doing this programming program is to eventually go into game/graphics programming. Since it's my summer off, I thought what better way then to actually apply some of my skills to a personal project so I actually have a firmer understanding of C++ past what my professors tell me. My questions are this: What would be the best way to start off making a small personal game in UE4 as a project for the summer? What should I be aiming for, especially for someone that is still learning C++? Should I focus on making a simple 2D game rather than a 3D one to get started? Seeing the Flappy Chicken showcase intrigued me because before I thought the UE engine was pretty much pigeonholed into being for FPS games What should my expectations be going into UE4 and a game engine for the first time?(UE4 will be my first foray into making a game) What can I expect to gain from making things in UE4, in terms of making games and in terms of further fleshing out my knowledge of C++? Would you recommend I start off 100% using C++ for scripting or using the visual blueprints? Since I'm not a designer, how would I be able to add objects and designs to my game? For someone at my level is retaining the UE4 subscription worth it or is it better to cancel and resub when I learn enough about UE4 and C++? Lastly is there anything to be gained in terms of knowledge/insight through me looking at the source code for UE4? I opened it in VS2013, but noticed that most of the files were C# files and not cpp's. Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer.

• Developing web sites that imitate desktop apps. How to fight that paradigm? [closed]

  Supposse there's a company where web sites/apps are designed to resemble desktop apps. They struggle to add: Splash screens Drop-down menus Tab-pages Pages that don't grow downward with content, context is inside scrollable area so page is of a fixed size, as if resembling the one-screen limitation of desktop apps. Modal windows, pop-ups, etc. Tree views Absolutely no access to content unless you login-first, even with non-sensitive content. After splash screen desapears, you are presented with a login screen. No links - just simulated buttons. Fixed page-size. Cannot open a linked in other tab Print button that prints directly ( not showing printable page so the user can't print via the browser's print command ) Progress bars for loading content even when the browser indicates it with its own animation Fonts and color amulate a desktop app made with Visual Basic, PowerBuilder etc. Every app seems almost as if were made in Visual Basic. They reject this elements: Breadcrumbs Good old underlined links Generated/dynamic navigation, usage-based suggestions Ability to open links in multiple tabs Pagination Printable pages Ability to produce a URL you can save or share that links to an item, like when you send someone the link to an especific StackExchange question. The only URL is the main one. Back button To achieve this, tons of javascript code is needed. Lots and lots of Javascript and Ajax code for things not related with the business but with the necessity to hide/show that button, refresh this listbox, grey-out that label, etc. The coplexity generated by forcing one paradigm into another means most lines of code are dedicated to maintain the illusion of a desktop app. What is the best way to change this mindset, and make them embrace the web, and start producing modern, web apps instead of desktop imitations ? EDIT: These sites are intranet sites. Users hate these apps. They constantly whine about them, but they have to use them to do their daily work. These sites are in-house solutions, the end-users have no choice but to use them. They are a "captive audience". Also, substitution will not happen because of high costs. But at least if that mindset is changed, new developments would be more web-like.

• A Simple Entity Tagger

  In the REST world, ETags are your gateway to performance boosts by letting clients cache responses. In the non-REST world, you may also want to add an ETag to an entity definition inside a traditional service contract – think of a scenario where a consumer persists its own representation of your entity, and wants to keep it in sync. Rather than load every entity by ID and check for changes, the consumer can send in a set of linked IDs and ETags, and you can return only the entities where the current ETag is different from the consumer’s version.  If your entity is a projection from various sources, you may not have a persistent ETag, so you need an efficient way to generate an ETag which is deterministic, so an entity with the same state always generates the same ETag. I have an implementation for a generic ETag generator on GitHub here: EntityTagger code sample. The essence is simple - we get the entity, serialize it and build a hash from the serialized value. Any changes to either the state or the structure of the entity will result in a different hash. To use it, just call SetETag, passing your populated object and a Func<> which acts as an accessor to the ETag property: EntityTagger.SetETag(user, x => x.ETag); The implementation is all in at 80 lines of code, which is all pretty straightforward: var eTagProperty = AsPropertyInfo(eTagPropertyAccessor); var originalETag = eTagProperty.GetValue(entity, null); try { ResetETag(entity, eTagPropertyAccessor); string json; var serializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(entity.GetType()); using (var stream = new MemoryStream()) { serializer.WriteObject(stream, entity); json = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(stream.GetBuffer(), 0, (int)stream.Length); } var guid = GetDeterministicGuid(json); eTagProperty.SetValue(entity, guid.ToString(), null); //... There are a couple of helper methods to check if the object has changed since the ETag value was last set, and to reset the ETag. This implementation uses JSON to do the serializing rather than XML. Benefit - should be marginally more efficient as your hashing a much smaller serialized string; downside, JSON doesn't include namespaces or class names at the root level, so if you have two classes with the exact same structure but different names, then instances which have the same content will have the same ETag. You may want that behaviour, but change to use the XML DataContractSerializer if you think that will be an issue. If you can persist the ETag somewhere, it will save you server processing to load up the entity, but that will only apply to scenarios where you can reliably invalidate your ETag (e.g. if you control all the entry points where entity contents can be updated, then you can calculate and persist the new ETag with each update).

• JPA 2.1 Schema Generation (TOTD #187)

  This blog explained some of the key features of JPA 2.1 earlier. Since then Schema Generation has been added to JPA 2.1. This Tip Of The Day (TOTD) will provide more details about this new feature in JPA 2.1. Schema Generation refers to generation of database artifacts like tables, indexes, and constraints in a database schema. It may or may not involve generation of a proper database schema depending upon the credentials and authorization of the user. This helps in prototyping of your application where the required artifacts are generated either prior to application deployment or as part of EntityManagerFactory creation. This is also useful in environments that require provisioning database on demand, e.g. in a cloud. This feature will allow your JPA domain object model to be directly generated in a database. The generated schema may need to be tuned for actual production environment. This usecase is supported by allowing the schema generation to occur into DDL scripts which can then be further tuned by a DBA. The following set of properties in persistence.xml or specified during EntityManagerFactory creation controls the behaviour of schema generation. Property Name Purpose Values javax.persistence.schema-generation-action Controls action to be taken by persistence provider "none", "create", "drop-and-create", "drop" javax.persistence.schema-generation-target Controls whehter schema to be created in database, whether DDL scripts are to be created, or both "database", "scripts", "database-and-scripts" javax.persistence.ddl-create-script-target, javax.persistence.ddl-drop-script-target Controls target locations for writing of scripts. Writers are pre-configured for the persistence provider. Need to be specified only if scripts are to be generated. java.io.Writer (e.g. MyWriter.class) or URL strings javax.persistence.ddl-create-script-source, javax.persistence.ddl-drop-script-source Specifies locations from which DDL scripts are to be read. Readers are pre-configured for the persistence provider. java.io.Reader (e.g. MyReader.class) or URL strings javax.persistence.sql-load-script-source Specifies location of SQL bulk load script. java.io.Reader (e.g. MyReader.class) or URL string javax.persistence.schema-generation-connection JDBC connection to be used for schema generation javax.persistence.database-product-name, javax.persistence.database-major-version, javax.persistence.database-minor-version Needed if scripts are to be generated and no connection to target database. Values are those obtained from JDBC DatabaseMetaData. javax.persistence.create-database-schemas Whether Persistence Provider need to create schema in addition to creating database objects such as tables, sequences, constraints, etc. "true", "false" Section 11.2 in the JPA 2.1 specification defines the annotations used for schema generation process. For example, @Table, @Column, @CollectionTable, @JoinTable, @JoinColumn, are used to define the generated schema. Several layers of defaulting may be involved. For example, the table name is defaulted from entity name and entity name (which can be specified explicitly as well) is defaulted from the class name. However annotations may be used to override or customize the values. The following entity class: @Entity public class Employee {    @Id private int id;    private String name;     . . .     @ManyToOne     private Department dept; } is generated in the database with the following attributes: Maps to EMPLOYEE table in default schema "id" field is mapped to ID column as primary key "name" is mapped to NAME column with a default VARCHAR(255). The length of this field can be easily tuned using @Column. @ManyToOne is mapped to DEPT_ID foreign key column. Can be customized using JOIN_COLUMN. In addition to these properties, couple of new annotations are added to JPA 2.1: @Index - An index for the primary key is generated by default in a database. This new annotation will allow to define additional indexes, over a single or multiple columns, for a better performance. This is specified as part of @Table, @SecondaryTable, @CollectionTable, @JoinTable, and @TableGenerator. For example: @Table(indexes = {@Index(columnList="NAME"), @Index(columnList="DEPT_ID DESC")})@Entity public class Employee {    . . .} The generated table will have a default index on the primary key. In addition, two new indexes are defined on the NAME column (default ascending) and the foreign key that maps to the department in descending order. @ForeignKey - It is used to define foreign key constraint or to otherwise override or disable the persistence provider's default foreign key definition. Can be specified as part of JoinColumn(s), MapKeyJoinColumn(s), PrimaryKeyJoinColumn(s). For example: @Entity public class Employee {    @Id private int id;    private String name;    @ManyToOne    @JoinColumn(foreignKey=@ForeignKey(foreignKeyDefinition="FOREIGN KEY (MANAGER_ID) REFERENCES MANAGER"))    private Manager manager;     . . . } In this entity, the employee's manager is mapped by MANAGER_ID column in the MANAGER table. These features will be available in GlassFish 4 promoted builds in the near future. JPA 2.1 will be delivered as part of Java EE 7. • How do I server multiple domains from the same directory and codebase without my configuraton breaking when apache.conf is overwritten?

  I have 20 domains on a VPS running cPanel. One public_html is filled with code, the remaining 19 are symbolic links to that one. (For example, assets is a directory within public_html ... for the 19 others, there's a symbolic link to that directory in each each accounts public_html dir.) It's all PHP / MySQL database driven, with content changing depending on the domain. It works like a charm, assuming cPanel has suExec enabled correctly, and assuming apache.conf does NOT have SymLinksIfOwnerMatch enabled. However, every few weeks, my apache.conf is mysteriously overwritten, re-enabling SymLinksIfOwnerMatch, and disabling all 19 linked sites for as long as it takes for me to notice. Here's the offending line in apache.conf: <Directory "/"> AllowOverride All Options ExecCGI FollowSymLinks IncludesNOEXEC Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch </Directory> The addition of SymLinksIfOwnerMatch disables the sites in a strange way ... the html is generated correctly, but all css/js/image in the html fails to load. Clicking any link redirects to /. And I have no idea why. Again, all of this works great, except when SymLinksIfOwnerMatch gets added back into apache.conf. Since I've failed to find the cause of whatever cPanel/security update is overwriting apache.conf, I thought there might be a more correct way to accomplish my goal using group permissions. I've created a 'www' group, added all accounts to the group, and chmod -R'd the code source to use that group. Everything is 644 or 755. But doesn't seem to be enough. My unix isn't that strong. Do you need to restart something for group changes to take effect? Probably not. Anyways, I'm entering unknown territory. Can anyone recommend the right way to configure a website for multiple sites using one codebase that doesn't rely on apache.conf?

• How do I install and use the cli53 tools on Windows?

  I'm trying to find the simplest way to import a large number of BIND zone files in to Route 53. I've had a quick look at the AWS CLI and AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell but they don't seem to include a zone file import option like the AWS Route53 GUI does. The cli53 utility on the other hand does, but is written in Python and appears to have a series of pre-requisites to get going which I'm having troubles working out for Windows. I can find plenty of examples of setting it up under Linux but only one reference to a PowerShell example here, but it doesn't explain how to install cli53 in the first place. The other option I'm exploring is to use the BIND to Amazon Route 53 Conversion Tool perl script to first convert the zone files to the Route53 CreateHostedZoneRequest XML format and then use the AWS New-R53HostedZone PowerShell cmdlet to import the zones. After the zones have been imported I'll be looking at running a script to validate what has been created in Route53 matches with the existing nameserver prior to updating each domains nameserver records - I was planning on whipping something up using the new PS4.0 Resolve-DnsName cmdlet, but let me know if you have any better suggestions. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - thanks. • Firebird 2.1: gfix -online returns "database shutdown"

  Hey all. Googling this one hasn't made a bit of difference, unfortunately, as most results specify the syntax for onlining a database after using gfix -shut -force 30 (or any other number of seconds) as gfix -online dbname, and I have run gfix -online dbname with and without login credentials for the DB in question. The message that I get is: database dbname shutdown Which is fine, except that I want to bring it online now. It's out of the question to close fbserver.exe (running on a Windows box, afaik it's Classic Server 2.1.1 but it may be Super) since we have other databases running off of that which need almost 24/7 uptime. The message from doing another gfix -shut -force or -attach or -tran is invalid shutdown mode for dbname which appears to match with the documentation of what happens if the database is already fully shut down. Ideas and input greatly appreciated, especially since at the moment time is a factor for me. Thanks! EDIT: The whole reason I shut down the DB is to clear out "active" transactions which were linked to a specific IP address, and that computer is my dev terminal (actually a virtual machine where I develop frontends for the database software) but I had no processes connecting to the database at the time. They looked like orphaned transactions to me, and they weren't in limbo afaik. Running a manual sweep didn't clear them out, deleting the rows from MON$STATEMENTS didn't work even though Firebird 2.1 supposedly supports cancelling queries that way. My last resort was to "restart" the database, hence the above issue.

• .htaccess Permission denied. Unable to check htaccess file

  I have a strange problem when adding a sub-domain to our virtual server. I have done similar sub-domains before and they have worked fine. When I try to access the sub-domain I get an 403 Forbidden error. I checked the error logs and have the following error: pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable I've searched Google and could only find solutions regarding file and folder permissions, that I have checked and the solution isn't solved. I also saw problems with Frontpage Extensions, but that's not installed on the server. Edit Forgot to say that there isn't a .htaccess file in the directory of the sub-domain Edit #2 Still not been able to find a solution on this. Only things I have been able to find out is: It doesn't seem to be a problem with any .htaccess files (I've tried creating blank ones, with correct user privileges). It doesn't seem to be a problem with any folder permissions as they are all set correct. There isn't a problem with the way the sub-domain has been set up, as I've tried pointing the DocumentRoot to another folder and it worked fine. I've also done sub-domains fine before with no problem. Edit #3 Find out more information. I don't think it can be a file permission problem now, because if I access it by going to the server ip and then the directory where the site is hosted it all works fine (minus the stylesheets & images, which is just down to how they are linked)

Also I have tried allowing all the unprivileged ports, as box1 uses thoses for doing ssh to box2. Any hints? • backupexec 12.5 not following symlinks on linux agent

  Ok, we are at a loss here trying to backup a linux box to a backupexec server... we got a backupexec 12.5 server and a "backupexec for windows servers linux agent" (sigh) running on one of our linux boxes. When a backup runs, we get exceptions reported for our symbolic links. it says something like: BACKUP- \\<servername>\[ROOT] File \\<servername>\[ROOT]/<foldername>/<symlink> is in the backup selection list but was not found. Looking at the selection list, the symlink shows as a 1k file on BUE. Tools-Options-Backup has Backup files and directories by following symbolic links/junction points selected. These same checkboxes are selected on the Job Setup-Job Properties-Edit Template-Advanced Additionally, all the checkboxes are checkeced on Tools-Options-Linux, Unix, and Macintosh and on the Job Set-Job Properties-Edit Template-Linux, Unix, and Macintosh. These checkboxes read: "Preserve change time", "Follow local mount points", "Follow remote mount points", "Backup contents of soft-linked directories" and "Lock remote files", but apparently changing those options produce the same result. Any help on how to get BUE to make a proper backup would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Two other directive is that extensions must not change and they want a GUI that other admins (non-Linux geeks) can manage. They currently use 9XXX for all extensions. We linked the Avaya and Asterisk box via PRI card and they both are communicating. From the Avaya side, if we move (for example) extension 9001 to Asterisk, we forward the call over the PRI to the AsteriskNow box and the SIP phone rings. In AsteriskNow we have an outgoing rule '_9XXX' that routes all 4-digit extensions starting with 9 back to Avaya. Here's the trouble. Dialing 9001 (the extension moved over to AsteriskNow) causes the call to be routed out the PRI to the Avaya box, then the Avaya box routes the call back to Asterisk, and Asterisk routes it to the SIP phone. As we get more and more users switched over, it will use up more and more channels over the PRI card. Is there a way I can ask Asterisk to check it's local extensions first--then forward off to the Avaya system if it starts with '_9XXX'? (I know how I can do it when editing the raw config files, I'm just looking for a way to do it in the GUI so other admins can manage it if necessary.) As a last-ditch plan, I know I can specifically add '_9001' as an outgoing call rule and sent it directly to extension 9001--but I'd really hate to do that for several hundred phones

• Wildcard DNS, VirtualHosts on apache2, 404 for unused subdomains

  On an Apache2 server linked to by a DNS that includes a wildcard entry, e.g. *.example.com, subdomains that are not defined as ServerNames in any VirtualHosts point to the first defined VirtualHost, in my example this is 000-default. My Question:How would one get unused subdomains (subdomains not used in any virtualhosts) to return a 404 error to the requesting client? This must preferably show in server logs as a 404 as well. I have looked into the following possibilities: Redirecting any invalid subdomain to the home page or some other page.The problem with this method is, when someone links to your site as this.company.sucks.example.com, the client will see your home page or in my case 000-default if I do not redirect. (regex for "suck", etc definately not an option) Let the default VirtualHost point to a non-existent directory.Apache does not like this one bit, warning with every reload. Beyond the warning, everything seems fine. This seems like a hack. Does this seem like a problem (however small) to anyone? Point the default VirtualHost to a folder where the index.php is forbidden, thus creating a 403 status code.This is confusing and makes things like the following overly complicated: Say, for example, you use a subdomain per user (a big reason to use wildcard DNS, apparently), and users have the ability to view each others profiles at username.example.com. This solution is confusing to the user and completely not what I want to do. My ideal sollution will let the user know there is nothing to view at the url he entered. Preferably with a 404 and an error log entry for the address entered (not some other address). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  I have a Dell 15Z. GT525M Video card. Updated Driver via NVIDIA. Problem is I just purchased a Yamasaki Catleap Q270 monitor. It is a (2560x1440) monitor with only a Dual DVI-D out. 15Z only has HDMI and a Mini Display Port. I got a Active Dual DVI-D to Mini Display Port Active Adapter(Linked Below). http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10428&cs_id=1042802&p_id=6904&seq=1&format=2 The Setup works when i plug it into my Macbook air 13.3. However when I plug it into my 15Z it doesn't work. Tried everything I can thank of. Window control P. FN and F1. It just doesn't work. I believe the issue lies in the Mini Display Port but i can't be sure. No matter what i do, the Mini Display Port doesn't get recognized. Spent 3 hours on the phone with the XPS Tech team. They simply said it was not compatible.... Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

• Error when trying to deploy Windows XP SP3 with WDS

  I have created a WDS server running Windows Server 2008 R2. I have built my custom images of Windows 7 using WAIK and MDT 2010 that are installed on the server. I used this guide to help me through the process. The Windows 7 images that I have created capture and deploy properly. I am attempting to follow the same steps from the guide I linked to capture and deploy a Windows XP SP3 image. I am able to sysprep and capture the reference machine with no errors. I am then able to import the custom .wim that I just captured in to MDT 2010 with no issues either. However when I try to deploy this image to a test virtual machine I get the following error: Deployment Error: I have made sure that the .iso that I am importing the source files from originally to create the sysprep and capture sequence is indeed a Windows XP SP3 iso. When I first select a PE boot environment before I deploy I select the x86 PE boot image that I created originally when making this for my Windows 7 deployments. Could this be the issue? If so how do I make a boot image specific for Windows XP SP3 deployments? I have Googled around for this error and some places point to the deployment image not being able to find setup.exe and other important system files for installing the operating system. If so, how do I add these to the image? Any ideas?

My first guess was that there's a Hardware problem of some sort and I asked my Hoster (it's a rented root server) to do a full hardwarecheck - they did, but couldn't find any problem. I don't know what and how they checked but their support team is usually quite good. I ran memtester and cpuburn myself and couldn't find any error either. Unfortunately I have no reliable way to reproduce these segfaults, they seem to be more or less random. On a hunch I disabled the firewall of the system and ran one of the programs that segfaulted regularily (imapsync) and it seemed to take longer to segfault than before, so the problem might be related to the network stack. Or could just be a random thing.   Hi all, I have an account on a web page that is now "full" (ie I have used up all my allocated space) and I would like to make a mirror of that site. wget seems like the thing to use. The problem is that I would only like to mirror the sites the lie within this directory http://user.domain.com/room/2324343/transcript/ (and sub-directories). Whilst saving the correct stylesheets, javascripts and css etc which exist in different directories. There as also uploaded files that are linked to within the pages in the transcript directory (on different directories) that I would like to download/mirror (theses are in a variatey of formats .exe, .py, .png, .app (and many more)). There are also images that are on different severs that are on these pages. Also I would like it if the links (which are sometimes relative , sometimes absoulute (but to internal things), sometimes external ) worked correctly so that if they link to things that have been downloaded(mirrored) they work fine (without internet connection), but if they link to things that are external or havent been mirrored they link to the external site. Basically so they work as expected. Another problem is that you have to log in to acess the site. Can wget be used to acomplish this or is there a better way? either way how do I achive this? (I have asked this question at stackoverflow.com/questions/2190115/wget-mirroring-subdomains-and-directories-and-cookies but it was recommended that I try asking it here)

• Exim rejects recipient address on my domain

  Hi, I have a dedicated server (debian) on which I have installed Exim and Dovecot. Everything worked fine until around a month ago. I tried to reinstall and reconfigure exim but I keep having all the incoming emails rejected. Outlook says: A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: [email protected] SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO:: host mail.mydomain.com [94.76.##.##]: 550 relay not permitted GMAIL: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 relay not permitted (state 14).
