    I have a directory structure with the following on localhost: http://localhost/testing/ A directory structure exists inside of testing as follows: /testing/public /testing/public/index.php /testing/public/img /testing/public/css ..etc for the js and swf directories A .htaccess file is inside the testing folder and the contents are as follows: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /testing/ RewriteRule ^public$ public/ [R,QSA] RewriteRule ^public/$ public/index.php?state=public [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^stackoverflow$ stackoverflow/ [R,QSA] RewriteRule ^stackoverflow/$ public/index.php?state=stackoverflow[L,QSA] I am using PHP and inside of the /testing/public/index.php file I wanted to test that the $_GET['state'] is indeed saving the variable. When I try to test out: http://localhost/testing/public $_GET['state'] is not found at all BUT http://localhost/testing/stackoverflow does indeed echo out that $_GET['state'] equals 'stackoverflow'. What am I missing here??? Why is it that I cannot get the state=public in the first link? Thanks for the help!

    i have published asp.net mvc application on iis 6 on the server(windows server 2003) from local machine. On server i have set the default page to default.aspx. but when i try to browse the site on server, it gives me exception "The incoming request does not match any route" One thing i noticed is that.   • How do I get the collection of Model State Errors in ASP.NET MVC?

    How do I get the collection of errors in a view? I don't want to use the Html Helper Validation Summary or Validation Message. Instead I want to check for errors and if any display them in specific format. Also on the input controls I want to check for a specific property error and add a class to the input. P.S. I'm using the Spark View Engine but the idea should be the same. So I figured I could do something like... <if condition="${ModelState.Errors.Count > 0}"> DispalyErrorSummary() </if> ....and also... <input type="text" value="${Model.Name}" class="?{ModelState.Errors["Name"] != string.empty} error" /> .... Or something like that. UPDATE My final solution looked like this: <input type="text" value="${ViewData.Model.Name}" class="text error?{!ViewData.ModelState.IsValid && ViewData.ModelState["Name"].Errors.Count() > 0}" id="Name" name="Name" /> This only adds the error css class if this property has an error.

    I am using spring webflow 1.0. I am uploading a csv file, parsing it, and displying results before proceeding. The user has an option to download a csv file that contains the records that did not pass validation. When I click the link in a JSP to download this file, webflow invokes a form Action. The form action writes out a file via getting the output stream off the response: HttpServletResponse response = ((ServletExternalContext) context.getExternalContext()).getResponse(); I do not want to leave the jsp I'm currently on. I just want to download the file. In other words, I do not want to transition to another state. I just want to serve the dynamically rendered file.   • Is it wrong to get feedback from Stack Overflow on a live system architecture?

    I am the technical director at a startup, and I will eventually be tasked with implementing a "real" system architecture when we hire more programmers. Right now our clients are small enough, and it is just me, so documented deployments, source control, unit tests and quality assurance servers are non-existent. Eventually I will need to devise a work-flow and architecture patterns for the majority of the work we will do (e-commerce). If I posted an architecture diagram, and asked for feedback, would that be a misuse of the Stack Overflow system? I don't want to get into that battle of "hey, don't ask us to do your job for you", but the reality is that any programmer who eventually moves into this realm will have to figure it out with feedback from other developers. HighScalability.com is what comes to mind when I think about this sorta thing in terms of the knowledge I need. So if this is not the right kind of forum for that, then any book recommendations or white papers you can recommend would be appreciated.

    We're developing an international product that displays a ruler to the user. Now in Germany and many other countries its of course common to use the metric system: cm or mm. I'm aware that americans and canadians (and maybe others too) do still use inches, feet and yards. So the question is: will todays americans (and other inch-country-citizens) understand the metric system and take it for granted - or do they still love their inches so much that they'd rather die than use a product with incorrect measurements? ( sorry for being blunt ;) )

  • Why can't my main class see the array in my calender class

    This is a homework problem. I'm already 5 days late and can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.. this is my 1st semester in Java and my first post on this site Here is the assignment.. Create a class called Calendar. The class should contain a variable called events that is a String array. The array should be created to hold 5 elements. Use a constant value to specify the array size. Do not hard code the array size. Initialize the array in the class constructor so that each element contains the string “ – No event planned – “. The class should contain a method called CreateEvent. This method should accept a String argument that contains a one-word user event and an integer argument that represents the day of the week. Monday should be represented by the number 1 and Friday should be represented by the number 5. Populate the events array with the event info passed into the method. Although the user will input one-word events, each event string should prepend the following string to each event: event_dayAppoinment: (where event_day is the day of the week) For example, if the user enters 1 and “doctor” , the first array element should read: Monday Appointment: doctor If the user enters 2 and “PTA” , the second array element should read: Tuesday Appointment: PTA Write a driver program (in a separate class) that creates and calls your Calendar class. Then use a loop to gather user input. Ask for the day (as an integer) and then ask for the event (as a one word string). Pass the integer and string to the Calendar object’s CreateEvent method. The user should be able enter 0 – 5 events. If the user enters -1, the loop should exit and your application should print out all the events in a tabular format. Your program should not allow the user to enter invalid values for the day of the week. Any input other than 1 – 5 or -1 for the day of the week would be considered invalid. Notes: When obtaining an integer from the user, you will need to use the nextInt() method on your Scanner object. When obtaining a string from a user, you will need to use the next() method on your Scanner object. The server I'm talking to sets a cookie using javascript (rather than standard set-cookie), so Mechanize doesn't catch the cookie. I need to pass that cookie back on the next GET request.   • how to create a particle system on iphone and retain the created particles?

    Hi all, I need to create a particle system and retain the created particles. I need to shake / move the created particles with the iphone accelerometer. Also, the number of particles needs to be very high (I need to show sand!). I do not have any OpenGLES programming experience. After initial search, I found Cocos2D can be used for particle generation. But there is no way of retaining the particles in the CCParticle system. As a work around, I tried creating many sprites at the end of particle generation and shown them as particles. But moving few number of sprites with accelerometer drops the frame rate considerably. Please suggest how this can be achieved and whether I should look for some other framework or if some kind of similar demo code is available. Thanks, Swapnil

This seems like a very poor design because my PHP script checks a number of $_POST variables to make sure they were passed along to the script. When the $_POST['check_box_1'] value is not set, then how do I know whether the script failed to pass along the value or the checkbox was just not set?

    I have SSRS 2008 setup on the database server. The server is part of the domain. Reporting Services is running under NetworkService. When I try to add a domain user using the web interface (Site Settings -- Security -- New Role Assignment), the page posts back but the user is not in the list.     I am trying to use port 80 for my application server, but when I perform "netstat -aon" I get TCP 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 4 When I look up the process in task manager, it shows PID 4 is SYSTEM, thats it, not extension... nothing, just "SYSTEM". Whats going on here? I'm afraid to end this process, what do I do? UPDATE: I've solved this through a stackoverflow question. Follow this link to find the solution for how to get IIS to stop listening on port 80 for a specified IP address.

  • Is it bad practice to have state in a static class?

    I would like to do something like this: public class Foo { // Probably really a Guid, but I'm using a string here for simplicity's sake. string Id { get; set; } int Data { get; set; } public Foo (int data) { ... } ... } public static class FooManager { Dictionary<string, Foo> foos = new Dictionary<string, Foo> (); public static Foo Get (string id) { return foos [id]; } public static Foo Add (int data) { Foo foo = new Foo (data); foos.Add (foo.Id, foo); return foo; } public static bool Remove (string id) { return foos.Remove (id); } ... // Other members, perhaps events for when Foos are added or removed, etc. } This would allow me to manage the global collection of Foos from anywhere. However, I've been told that static classes should always be stateless--you shouldn't use them to store global data. Global data in general seems to be frowned upon. If I shouldn't use a static class, what is the right way to approach this problem? Note: I did find a similar question, but the answer given doesn't really apply in my case.

    We are using Tasks to track individual development items and the "out of the box" configuration gives us only 2 states - Active and Closed. We would like to change it to: Assigned In Development In Test Ready for Production Closed (In Production) Any ideas on how to accomplish this? We've been through everything in the Admin site. I fine changing it in the DB if necessary but am not sure what should be changed - or if it is even in the DB. TIA
