• Why must "stride" in the System.Drawing.Bitmap constructor be a multiple of 4?

  I am writing an application that requires me to take a proprietary bitmap format (an MVTec Halcon HImage) and convert it into a System.Drawing.Bitmap in C#. The only proprietary functions given to me to help me do this involve me writing to file, except for the use of a "get pointer" function. This function is great, it gives me a pointer to the pixel data, the width, the height, and the type of the image. My issue is that when I create my System.Drawing.Bitmap using the constructor: new System.Drawing.Bitmap(width, height, stride, format, scan) I need to specify a "stride" that is a multiple of 4. This may be a problem as I am unsure what size bitmap my function will be hit with. Supposing I end up with a bitmap that is 111x111 pixels, I have no way to run this function other than adding a bogus column to my image or subtracting 3 columns. Is there a way I can sneak around this limitation?

  If I specify a system property multiple times when invoking the JVM which value will I actually get when I retrieve the property? e.g. java -Dprop=A -Dprop=B -jar my.jar What will be the result when I call System.getProperty("prop");? The Java documentation on this does not really tell me anything useful on this front. In my non-scientific testing on a couple of machines running different JVMs it seems like the last value is the one returned (which is actually the behavior I need) but I wondered if this behavior is actually defined officially anywhere or can it vary between JVMs?

• Are there Python ORMs out there that support multiple independent databases concurrently in use?

  I'm writing an application in Python where I wish to use sqlite as the backing store for documents edited by the app, with documents generally living in memory, but being saved to disk-based databases when the application saves. Ideally I'd like to use something like an ORM to make access to the data from my Python application code simple. Unfortunately it seems like the majority of Python ORMs, including SQLAlchemy, SQLObject, Django, and Storm, associate the database connection (or engine or whatever) with the classes representing table data, rather than instances of those classes. This restricts these ORMs to working with a single database connection across all instances. Since I'd like to support having multiple documents open simultaneously, this isn't going to work for me. Are there any ORMs out there that support this usage model in Python? Bazaar seems to support this, but it's quite out of date, and at first glance appears to have some other shortcomings. Thanks for any suggestions!

  Hi everybody, Apple requires an in-app purchase subscription purchased on one device to be available on all devices associated with the user: “...subscriptions must be provided on all devices associated with a user. In App Purchase expects subscriptions to be delivered through an external server that you will provide. You must provide infrastructure to deliver subscriptions to multiple devices.” Is there any way to propagate a subscription to another device transparently without user having to create a server side user account and log in each time he needs to enable the subscription on another device? E.g. by reading a username from some kind of API and using it as a key on a server to store information about subscriptions. I tried to find an API for retrieving user account info but couldn't find any.

• How do I register multiple paths for a HttpHandler in IIS7?

  I have a HttpHandler that resizes images based on the querystring, so requesting something like: http://server/image.jpg?width=320&height=240 will give you a resized image that's 320x240. In the IIS Manager, under Handler Mappings, I mapped my handler's path as *.jpg,*.gif,*.bmp,*.png. However, this doesn't activate the handler. If I change it to just *.jpg, then it works. My question is, do I have to create 4 separate mapping entries, one for each image type, or is there some way to combine multiple extensions in one path?

  I have created a HyperSQL Database. I was just wondering whether I could run multiple transactions on a single connection. I didn't want to spawn a new connection for each transaction due to the overhead associated with this. Looking at some similar questions the suggestion appeared to be to create a pool of database connections and then block waiting for one to become available. This is a workable, but not desirable solution. Background Info (if this is relevant to the answer). My application will create a new thread when some request comes in. This request will require a database transaction. Then some not insignificant time later this transaction will be committed. Any advice appreciated :)

• Using Sandy 3D AS3, fill the viewport (exact fit) with multiple 3D objects.

  I'm stitching together an image using multiple instances of the sandy.primitive.Box. Each box is 96x91 while the viewport is 960x273 which should make for an exact fit if I layout the boxes in a perfect grid of 10x3. However, I can't seem to get the exact camera fieldOfView. I've tried a couple formulas (one for adjusting the "focal length" and one for adjusting the fov, directly). Both of these formulas produce a fov angle that is too narrow. // focal length (stage.stageHeight/2) / Math.tan(cam.fov / 2 * Math.PI / 180) // field of view 2 * Math.atan2( (stage.stageHeight/2), -cam.z ) * (180 / Math.PI) Another question about the same project: I need to adjust the perspective of each cube so that the image appears to be in 2D space (flat)... Any ideas on the best method for calculating such a "correction"?

  Hi, I discovered that .attr() only applies to the first matched element on the page! So, I've been trying to get the hrefs from all the matched elements on a page, but to no avail. Here's what I tentatively wrote: var thelinks = $("td a").each(function(){ $(this).attr("href"); document.write(thelinks); }); I used document.write just to see what was going on, and I got a long list of "undefinedundefinedundefined" What I'm trying to do is extract the hrefs from each td a and then use ajax to visit those pages and do other stuff. I can get it work fine when it's dealing with just one link, but this multiple elements thing I can't figure out. Any help rendered is appreciated, I'm a novice to the world of Javascript and Jquery.

At first, I tried using synchronous XHR requests, but this causes the browser to lock up for the duration of the request, and breaks my DOM-manipulation effects, which is unacceptable. • Multiple classes in body tag, multi-dimensional css structure or blueprint for insanity?

  This question is about an approach to css structuring, and so is more discussion oriented. I'm working with some outsourced css where the body tags have multiple classes assigned, up to half a dozen. (To make things a little worse, none of the css selectors include an html tag which is making it confusing to analyze the css.) These body classes are then used to modify classed or id'd widgets within. It seems like this approach is like adding an additional dimension to the css, perhaps in some attempt to create a structured css approach. Documentation might have helped, had we been provided any. This differs from my approach where widgets are styled primarily via id'd divs, perhaps extracting the more generic elements into a class, i.e. div#MyWidget.widgets. Any ideas on whether such an approach is maintainable, especially considering I am dealing with websites with thousands of pages including tons of legacy stuff, all done by different people with different skill levels?   I know storing multiple values in a column. Not a good idea. It violates first normal form --- which states NO multi valued attributes. Normalize period... I am using SQL Server 2005 I have a table that require to store lower limit and uppper limit for a measurement, think of it as a minimum and maximum speed limit... only problem is only 2 % out of hundread i need upper limit. I will only have data for lower limit. I was thinking to store both values in a column (Sparse column introduces in 2008 so not for me) Is there a way...? Not sure about XML..

  I am trying to come up with the most efficient database as possible. My bus routes all have about 10 stops. The bus starts at number one until it reaches the 10th stop, then it comes back again. This cycle happens 3 times a day. I am really stuck as to how I can efficiently generate the times for the buses and where I should store the stops. If I put all the stops in one field and the times in another, the database won't be very dynamic. If I store all the stops one by one in a column and then the times in another column, there will be a lot of repeating happening further down as one stop has multiple times. Maybe I am missing something, I've only just started learning SQL and this is a task we have been set. Thanks in advance.

  I have a game built in a java environment and I use JVM. I have 4 cores @ 2.4Ghz and my server is only using one of those cores... I've tried and searched and I still have no guides to setup multiple cores to run the game like, say 1 core for running the character saving + loading, and 1 core for the server itself, and 1 core for a helper to help other cores that need more power.   I can move my pointer up and down one line with my arrow key just fine in Emacs, so I'd like to redefine C-n and C-p to move up and down 5 lines at a time. I'm just beginning to learn how to use Emacs, and elisp is very alien to me. I tried using the GNU Emacs lisp reference, but I couldn't find how to bind a keystroke to multiple commands. Here's what I have so far (concentrating on the moving up definition): (global-set-key "\C-p" '(loop for i in '(1 2 3 4 5) do ('previous-line))) But, this brings up an error message when I hit C-p, "Wrong type argument."   I'm working on a GUI application in Swing+Clojure that requires various mutable pieces of data (e.g. scroll position, user data, filename, selected tool options etc.). I can see at least three different ways of handling this set of data: Create a ref to a map of all the data: (def data (ref { :filename "filename.xml" :scroll [0 0] })) Create a map of refs to the individual data elements: (def datamap { :filename (ref "filename.xml") :scroll (ref [0 0]) })) Create a separate ref for each in the namespace: (def scroll (ref [0 0])) (def filename (ref "filename.xml")) Note: This data will be accessed concurrently, e.g. by background processing threads or the Swing event handling thread. However there probably isn't a need for consistent transactional updates of multiple elements. What would be your recommended approach and why?

  I need to have multiple submit buttons. I have a form which creates an instance of Contact_Call. One button creates it as normal. The other button creates it but needs to have a different :attribute value from the default, and it also needs to set the attribute on a different, but related model used in the controller. How do I do that? I can't change the route, so is there a way to send a different variable that gets picked up by [:params]? And if I do then, what do I do in the controller, set up a case statement?
