• Work with 64-bit VM in Windows 7

  I attended a Microsoft Office and SharePoint 2010 HOL 1 day workshop last week and wanted to setup a VM to try the new features in my own laptop. The presenter in the workshop implicitly mentioned a tool called VirtualBox (because it's not a MS product?) but I have no clue what it is at that moment. Until today, I saw a very useful blog and thanks to Guy and Rolly. • Is there any way to downgrade or revert an update to the kernel?

  Today I installed the linux 3.9 Kernel update (because I heard it would fix sound through HDMI which I no longer have since installing 13.04). After restarted my computer and logging in my screen has only a desktop, and no dock or tool bar. I tried to reset unity and compiz using guides like this one but nothing happens, even after reboot. Is there any way to downgrade or reset the update? EDIT: Running uname -a in terminal brings up 3.8.0 as my current kernel for some reason.

• How to transfer domain from Godaddy to another provider

  I'm currently using godaddy for all of my company domains, and I'm very unsatisfied with their service, specially with their site, so we are trying to migrate those domains to another provider. The question is, How do I transfer my domains to another domain registrar? I'm not talking about transferring domain records (A, MX...) but to use the same domains with another provider, and redo all the configuration again. For example, one of our blogs is hosted in Slicehost and we feel very confortable with their record editing tool.   I'm new to a project and I see that everything is so interwoven that small changes here makes stuff break there. I'd like to refactor it and separate into modules. For that I'm going to need a tool that can build a graph of dependencies (calls) to visualize the connections. There are many tools like that for languages like C#, but I've found little information about the available tools for JavaScript. Has anyone done something like this? What tools have you used?

• FxCop ... Where have you been all my life?

  I was recently introduced to microsoft's tool that analyzes managed code assemblies called FxCop. It points out possible design, localization, performance, and security improvements against a pre defined set of rules (and also accepts custom rules). At first I was unsure how to go about using it as it seems to be aimed at software developers (.exe and .dll) . Its easy to get around this with the following steps: 1)Create a new folder (i.e C:\Code Analysis) 2)Publish your web application into the new folder 3)Open FxCop and add all the dll files from the newly created bin folder  to be scrutinized. • Agile Tools For Handling Multiple Projects

  Currently I'm leading our agile team in an iteration manager role as well as doing my regular dev work. One of the difficulties I'm facing as an IM is tracking burn-down/burn-up; not because I can't produce graphs, but because there's multiple projects that this team is working on at one time. At present I have an excel workbook with sheets that contain a whole bunch of graphs, both at an overall team and by-project level. It's clunky and I spend more time tweaking formulas and double checking calculations than I'd really like. As such, I'm interested to know if anyone has used a tool that can effectively produce these sorts of reports, burn-downs, and predictions across multiple projects. I've seen http://www.pivotaltracker.com/ do some nice things, and of course there's JIRA/Greenhopper, but I'm not aware of those being used to track the progress of multiple projects within one team. If anyone's got an idea of some tools, or has faced a similar problem before, I'd love to hear from you.

• From where can I install my nVidia drivers? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How do I install extra drivers? Additional Drivers tool in Ubuntu 12.10? I have read here and here that I should be able to install drivers. So I'm finding the Additional Drivers menu. To install nVidia driver. I started looking for System -> Administration and not finding it. I have an icon that says System Settings and it has any option related to drivers. NOTE: I am using Ubuntu 12.10.

• Is it possible to use Back in Time with Ubuntu One without storing the back up files locally?

  I use Deja Dup as my back up tool. Love its simplicity and the fact that I can store my back up directly on my Ubuntu One account. Now I really like the flexibility of Back in Time, but I can not find a clean way to store my back up in Ubuntu One. Some threads suggest to use the Ubuntu One folder in your system, and that works, but it also keeps a local copy of the back up in my system, and I do not want that. Any work around for this? • Is executing SQL through a WebService a really bad idea?

  Typically when creating a simple tool or something that has to use a database, I go through the fairly long process of first creating a webservice that connects to a database then creating methods on this webservice that do all the type of queries I need.. methods like List<Users> GetUsers() { ... } User GetUserByID(int id) { ... } //More Get/Update/Add/Delete methods Is it terrible design to simply make the webservice as secure as I can (not quite sure the way to do something like this yet) and just make a couple methods like this SqlDataReader RunQuery(string sql) { ... } void RunNonQuery(string sql) { ... } I would sorta be like exposing my database to the internet I suppose, which sounds bad but I'm not sure. I just feel like I waste so much time running everything through this webservice, there has to be a quicker yet safe way that doesn't involve my application connecting directly to the database (the application can't connect directly to database because the database isn't open to any connections but localhost, and where the appliction resides the standard sql ports are blocked anyway) Especially when I just need to run a few simple queries

I found the basic difference between appmobi and phonegap is appMobi offers a complete cloud-based development system that includes a the XDK development tool. ie It's possible to develop Apple apps without owning a Mac using appMobi. I want to know Is there any differences between apk/ipa created using Appmobi and apk/ipa created using PhoneGap? Is there any difference in native features that can be used ? • ubuntu is not booting, after dual boot installation with windows 7

  Recently i bought a lenovo u410 ultrabook. It has given along with windows 7 and 4 primary partitions. So to install ubuntu 12.04 i removed one of the primary partition and made it as extended partition. In that extended partition, i allocated memory for the swap and root (/) directory and then installed the ubuntu. After that by using EasyBCD tool, added ubuntu to the boot menu in grub2. So when i try to boot into ubuntu it is showing grub prompt only. From there how can i boot into ubuntu. Thanks in advance

• Assemble static site from templates? (don't want to reinvent the wheel)

  I have a site that is 100% static content (no php, just some javascript). There's several "blocks" like the header, menu, footer, etc. that are the same on each page. Rather than do a lot of copy/pasting, I was thinking of some kind of template system where I could run a CLI command (in php, perl, python, shell, whatever) and have it replace all the block tags with the actual block text. I did see some answers in this question, but those seem oriented towards "we provide the style and layout, you provide the text". In my case, I have everything as far as layout, css, etc. - just want to do a glorified sed. Before I invent the wheel, I was wondering if there was a tool out there already.

• Does the Instant Preview in Google webmaster tools takes Robot.txt in account?

  Is that the way to go If I want to visually see what the googlebot see? I'm trying to check a folder which I have just blocked in my robots.txt. If I fetch the folder as google bot, It fetches ok, so that doesn't tell me nothing about whether the block is working I know there's a tool to check for blocking, but it is dependent on the input of the robots.txt Therefore I've tried the Instant preview, and I don't get a preview for what the bot sees ("pre-render), so I think that means that it's because the robots.txt blocks it; however - I don't see the bot tried beforehand to access my updated robots.txt, so I'm not sure how does it know that this folder is blocked? (it does preview another new folder, that is not blocked)

When I test the page using Google's Structured Data Testing Tool I receive this error: Error: Incomplete microdata with schema.org. My question is what data is missing that is required? I don't see which data is required on the Schema.org page for reviews.

• AdSense link units targeting better keywords?

  I have one link unit above my navigation which targets exact keywords on what my site is about, on contrary my AdSense for content Leaderboard and Wide Skyscraper show ads that are totally opposite from my keyword, while my ctr increased for about 10 times with link unit I noticed CPC is lower also (but that was just based on one day, today is higher). Is it so bad to completely get rid of standard content ads and put link units, because this way I earn so little for that site but I think that is because smart pricing (accidental clicks on ads that my users are not interested)? I earn in whole day with about 25-35 clicks as much as keyword tool shows for only one click, my site is first for the topic? I really don't know what to do. Has anyone had similar situation or can give some advice?

• How to configure screens in console or create screen configuration profiles?

  I have two monitors and integrated GPU (Intel® HD Graphics 4600). It works fine for work or movies, but if I launch games in fullscreen mode - I get artifacts, glitches and so on. Temporary disabling second monitor solve this problem, but then I have to enable it back, and set its properties manually (by default, additional screen attaches its left-top corner to main monitor's right-top corner, but I need it to be left-bottom and right-bottom corners). So I need some kind of automatization here. Best option - tool to create and swap between some kind of config profiles. Or, maybe, some console manipulations which I can put into script files would be fine too. (Ubuntu 13.04, if it matters)

• Deactivate one graphicdevice in a SLI system

  As it is now, I have a Gaminglaptop with 2 GeForce 9800M GT with SLI activated, Ubuntu 12.04. When I use any graphicdriver that is aware of acceleration features the system crashes after a short period of time. After I removed and purged jockey my system runs stable but slowly, but I can use it for now (I have to choose recovery at startup and the resume boot, botting up normal results in a colorflickering screen). But since the system is runs slowly, I would like to try to work with only one graphicdevice. First test device A, if that doesn't work test with device B. A testing tool for Windows already told me, that one of the cards doesn't work properly, but it doesn't say which one (same crashes in Windows when programs or desktop uses acceleration). Therefore I wanted to ask, if there is a way to reinstall any nVidia (or third party) driver, deactivate one of the two devices and test the stability?
