• Is it possible to optimize maven dependencies automatically?

  I am working on a big project that consists of about 40 sub-projects with very not optimized dependencies. There are declared dependencies that are not in use as well as used but undeclared dependencies. The second case is possible when dependency is added via other dependency. I want to remove redundant and add required dependencies. I ran mvn dependency:analyze and got a long list of warnings I have to fix now. I wonder whether there is maven plugin or any other utility that can update my pom.xml files automatically. I tried to do it manually but it takes a lot of time. It seems it will take a couple of days of copy/paste to complete the task. In worse case I can write such script myself but probably ready stuff exists? • Force download menu for remote files

  Hey, I would like users to upload links on my site. When another user clicks on the link (e.g. PDF file), then I would like the download popup to show instead of actually displaying the PDF in browser. I know I can use Response.AddHeader/Response.WriteFile to achieve this, but the WriteFile method required a virtual path. However, the links uploaded by the user will be pointing to external servers. Can I still force the download popup to show and, if so, what would be the most efficient way of doing it? Thanks for any advice

  Starting with a string of an unspecified length, I need to make it exactly 43 characters long (front-padded with zeroes). It is going to contain IP addresses and port numbers. • improve my jquery validation plugin code

  Hi All Just hoping soemone can help me to write better code than I can come up with on my own. I am using the jquery validation plugin. I have some fields that are mandatory ONLY if certain options are chosen. The below code works fine. But the thing is, is that that my list of 'OR's is much longer than I've put here. and it needs to be applied not just to 'directorsName' but a whole long list of inputs, selects etc. My question is.. how can I wrap up the code contained inside the RETURN? (so I dont have to keep repeating my 'OR's. I'd like to assume I don't have the source code to any of them (actually I usually have the source code of one of them). I want to direct the standard output of one to the standard input of the other and vice versa, thus allowing communication (the goal is to allow two programs playing a certain game to play one against the other).   Hi I know that Spring doesn't supports Interface injection and I've read that many a times. But today as I came across an article about IOC by Martin Fowler (link), it seems using ApplicationContextAware in Spring is some what similar to the Interface injection. when ever Spring' context reference is required in our Spring bean, we'll implement ApplicationContextAware and will implement the setApplicationContext(ApplicationContext context) method, and we'll include the bean in the config file. Is not this the same as Interface injection, where where telling the Spring to inject (or), say, pass the reference of the context into this bean? Or I m missing something here? • Minimal files to run a fully-functional PostgreSQL in Windows

  I would like to bundle PostgreSQL into my application. I downloaded the PostgreSQL 9 beta zip without the installer. After extraction, there are 8 directories. I found out that at least the following directories are required to run PostgreSQL properly, at least under my experiments. bin lib share The question is, are the above three directories really sufficient to run a fullly functional PostgreSQL? Do I need the 'include' and 'symbols' directories? Also, can I remove 'share\locale' if I don't use these locales?

  Hello stackoverflow members, How can I use gtkmm with MinGW (g++) without MSYS? Here is the story of my problem: I installed MinGW offline with all required packages (full install). I installed Apache Server and I copied all .tar.gz files and I created a website called sourceforge.org [localhost] and I installed automatically MinGW on Windows XP. After, I set the PATH variables. After, I installed gtkmm for MinGW (g++). I tried to compile a simple window with gtkmm + MinGW, but it does not work. I use this command line: g++ simple.cc -o simple pkg-config gtkmm-2.4 --cflags --libs After, I installed MSYS and I can compile simple.cc with MSYS, using this command line: g++ simple.cc -o simple pkg-config gtkmm-2.4 --cflags --libs My problem: I want to compile simple.cc without MSYS. I want compile my simple.cc with cmd.exe - It's possbile? If, yes. How? Thank you for reading my message. Any help is appreciated.

  We just started learning big-o in class. I understand the general concept that f(x) is big-o of g(x) if there exists two constants c,k such that for all xk |f(x)|<=c|g(x)|. I had a question whether or not it is required that we include the <= to sign or whether it is just sufficient to put the < sign? For example: suppose f(x)=17x+11 and we are to prove that this is O(x^2). Then if we take c=28 and xk=1 we know that 17x+11<=28x^2. So since we know that x will always be greater than 1 this implies that 28x^2 will always be greater than 17x+11. So, do we really need to include the equal sign (<=) or is it okay if we just write (<)? Thanks in advance.

I know that, according to http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#sec-line-ends, xml processors are required to replace any "\n\r" or lone "\r" sequences with "\n". The specification states that this has to be the behaviour for handling any "external parsed entity", does this apply to CDATA sections inside of an element as well? thank you, Michele I'm sure that msxml library for example converts every \n\r" or lone "\r" sequences to "\n", regardless of their being in a cdata section or not.

• How much effort does it take to spoof an Ip Address in a call to a webservice?

  I don't want to know how... Just how complicated.... I'm thinking of securing a webservice or 2 based on the incoming client ipaddress of the caller. Is this in any way secure? Surely if the IPaddress was being spoofed then the result would have to be sent back to the address that was being spoofed and therefore not reach the spoofer? Update: Ok so from what I can tell.... I should create a Gettoken() method which checks the IPaddress and passes out a cryptographically significant token with a timeout to any valid IP address. This is then required by any other method before any kind of side effect is allowed. Since an Attacker can't (likely) get the token without having a valid IP, he will be unable to validly call any of my "dangerous" webmethods ?

• Any way to avoid a filesort when order by is different to where clause?

  I have an incredibly simple query (table type InnoDb) and EXPLAIN says that MySQL must do an extra pass to find out how to retrieve the rows in sorted order. SELECT * FROM `comments` WHERE (commentable_id = 1976) ORDER BY created_at desc LIMIT 0, 5 exact explain output: table select_type type extra possible_keys key key length ref rows comments simple ref using where; using filesort common_lookups common_lookups 5 const 89 commentable_id is indexed. Comments has nothing trick in it, just a content field. The manual suggests that if the order by is different to the where, there is no way filesort can be avoided. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/order-by-optimization.html I also tried order by id as well as it's equivalent but makes no difference, even if I add id as an index (which I understand is not required as id is indexed implicitly in MySQL). thanks in advance for any ideas!

I have recently come across some extremely bad (in my eyes) legacy code that lends itself to chaos (someHugeJavafile.js) which contains a lot of the logic used in many of the pages. Let's say for example that you have a Form that you need to complete. 1. Personal Details 2. Address Information 3. Little bit more about yourself You don't want to overload the person with all the fields at once, so you decide to split it up into steps. Do you create separate pages for Personal Details, Address Information and a Little bit more about yourself. Do you create controls for each and hide and show them on a postback or using some update panel? Do you use jQuery and do some checking to ensure that the person has completed the required fields for the step and show the new "section" by using .show()? How do you usually find the balance?

  I am starting a process lets say abc.exe in a background worker. In the begining everything works fine but in between the newly created process i.e. abc.exe haults. Although I am starting abc.exe as hidden window but I come to know about its hang as it stopes doing log writing. When I close my UI form then again abc.exe starts working. Can anybody tell me what could be the possible cause for this? I am not able to debug the issue as it can happen at any time, I can not replicate it. Please tell me as it is very urgent for me. If some more info is required then please revert back.

Attribute setup code is as follows- 'entity_type_id'=>$customer_address_type_id, 'attribute_code'=>'signature_required', 'backend_type'=>'int', 'frontend_input'=>'boolean', 'frontend_label' => 'Signature required', 'is_global' => '1', 'is_visible' => '1', 'is_required' => '0', 'is_user_defined' => '0', I have then - added attribute to model\entity\setup.php added a HTML field on the edit form I am now getting the attribute saved to the database when the checkbox is checked. However, it is not being unset when checkbox is unchecked (I'm guessing due to checkbox input not being 'post'-ed if unchecked. What is the best way to uncheck this? Should I add a default value of 0? Or unset/delete the attribute before save in the controller? Should I add get/set methods to the model?
