• iPhone Text entry with completion and DONE button (not search)

  Using iPhone SDK 3.0, I wish to allow text entry with (optional) completion options that appear as typing is occurring, i.e. also allowing freeformat entry. As such I am using a UISearchBar (which has the text change events) and a UISearchDisplayController to present options. The problems is I want the DONE button to say DONE and not SEARCH, however I cannot find a way to set that. Clearly I feel I am missing something, or Interface Builder of the SDK API would have some property to set. I have seen other apps (in the store) that have achieved the result I want (free format entry, completion, DONE button) so maybe there is an alternative approach I am missing. Thanks in advance for any pointers.

• Datatable binding to a form is not working

  Hi All i am having a form which are having 4 lables and these lables value are displayed in the 4 textboxs, i am using MVVM and binding these textboxs with the Datatble which is coming through the typed dataset not the problem here is when i add a new row in the datatable with default values of columns and update ui by calling onpropertychanged event from my viewmodel , these values are not getting reflected on the form. Before adding a new row in the table , i am removing all previous rows and then add. TIA. Saurabh

• Height of screen in portrait mode only?

  Hi, How can I get the height of the device for portrait mode? I have to create a bitmap (which is zoomable) and I just want to get a rough idea what the tallest height should be. getResources().getDisplayMetrics().heightPixels; does the above return the height, in portrait mode only? I'm not binding my UI to this absolute value, it's just a rough fit, Thanks

• UIView subclass draws background despite completely empty drawRect: - why?

  So, I have a custom UIView subclass which enables drawing of rounded edges. The thing draws perfectly, however the background always fills the whole bounds, despite clipping to a path first. The border also draws above the rectangular background, despite the fact that I draw the border in drawRect: before the background. So I removed the whole content of drawRect:, which is now virtually empty - nevertheless the background gets drawn! Anybody an explanation for this? I set the backgroundColor in Interface Builder. Thanks!

  I have a simple table "Employees" with this fields: ID, ParentID, Name ParentID is Nullable since an employee may have no Manager. This table has a one-to-many relationship with itself: ID --one--to--many--> ParentID Now I want a query which returns this columns: Name, Count of rows where their ParentID equals to the current row ID (the row is the manager of that rows) Sample Table: ID | ParentID | Name ====================== 1 | 0 | John ---------------------- 2 | 1 | Bob ---------------------- 3 | 1 | Alice ---------------------- 4 | 3 | Jack This way I can find an employee is the manager of how many other employees. • Validating disconnected POCOs

  In my ASP.NET application I have separate projects for the Data, Business and UI layers. My business layer is composed of plain objects with declarative validation, using DataAnnotations. Problem is, when it comes to save them, I'm not sure how to process the validation, since they're not bound directly to any data context, but rather, are mapped to separate data-layer objects. Is there a way to trigger validation on these kinds of objects?

  I have a question about postDelayed. The android docs say that it adds the runnable to the queue and it runs in the UI thread. What does this mean? So, for example, the same thread I use to create my layout is used to run the Runnable? Now I can embed this font and although the font is freely available in Windows we don’t have distribution rights for this font. • FileUpload ASP.NET control not working under Windows 7

  I have a User Control that contains a System.Web.UI.WebControls.FileUpload control as well as a button to 'Submit'. When the button is clicked code similar to the following is executed: If FileUploadControl.HasFile Then 'Save the file and do some other stuff End If This code works just fine with Windows XP. However, if I run it from a Windows 7 64-bit machine using IE8 32-bit the HasFile property always returns false and nothing is saved?! Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

• How to determine if an application is using the GPU

  I'm looking for a way to determine how to know whether an application is using the GPU with Objective-C. I want to be able to determine if any applications currently running on the system have work going on on the GPU (ie: a reason why the latest MacBook Pros would switch to the discrete graphics over the Intel HD graphics). I've tried getting the information by crossing the list of active windows with the list of windows that have their backing location stored in video memory using Quartz Window Services, but all that does is return the Dock application and I have other applications open that I know are using the GPU (Photoshop CS5, Interface Builder), that and the Dock doesn't require the 330m.

• Add UIView behind UITableView in UITableViewController code

  I would like to use a fixed image as the background in a simple grouped table view in my iPhone program. Unfortunately, no matter what I do, the background is always solid white. I have followed several supposed solutions on this site and others to no avail. Here is the relavant code in the viewDidLoad method of the table view controller class (note, this code uses a solid blue color rather than an image for simplicity's sake): self.tableView.opaque = NO; self.tableView.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; UIView *backgroundView = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 480)]; backgroundView.backgroundColor = [UIColor blueColor]; [self.tableView.window addSubview:backgroundView]; [backgroundView release]; I suspect that I am not positioning the backgroundView view in the right place. • UIView Clipped By Statusbar until Autorotate

  Hi There, Ive created a multiview application that uses multiple controllers to display and control views. The problem Im having is, when the simulator initially loads the view the header is partially covered by the bar at top of screen and the tool bar at the base is not touching the base of the screen. I used the Interface builder size attributes to control the view when the iphone rotates and it works perfectly. All smaps into place perfectly both in landscape and portrait mode AFTER a rotation but the problem is with the initial load before a rotation occurs. Your thoughts a much appreciated. Tony

  I need to have an autocomplete functionality using jquery, and I've encountered ZendX_JQuery which has such functionality available. However, I've noticed that the entire ZendX_JQuery classes, are a bit old (the default jquery version is 1.3.2, and jquery ui 1.7.1). (see http://framework.zend.com/svn/framework/extras/branches/release-1.10/library/ZendX/JQuery.php) Should I use that instead of my own written code to include the jquery library and etc., and should I use the ZendX_JQuery_View_Helper_AutoComplete class for such functionality ?

  It seems that CompilationMode=Never doesn't permit Sessions to be properly wired. It first complains that the EnbaleSessionState directive is not allowed on this page. Explicitly assigning the System.Web.SessionState.IRequiresSessionState to the Page [1] avoids the null reference exceptions (around .Session access) but still doesn't persist or wire-up sessions correctly. Has anyone successfully used ASP.NET Sessions with CompilationMode=Never? Conceptually, why should these be disjoint??   I recently became interested in iPhone app development, so I've been looking at online tutorials, and also reading a book, trying out the examples as I go along. I'm getting better, but one of the things I still find quite annoying about the usual development model is that I really have no idea what the SDK is really doing behind the scenes to make the app "work" because Apple protects me from this. For example, when I make connections on interface builder, this presumably corresponds to code being generated somewhere... Where that code is and what it does and how it works are not obvious (to me). So I'm wondering, is it possible to create an iPhone app entirely programmatically? That is, have execution start in some main method, which will then programmatically create any views, register event listeners, etc. And if yes, what are some good resources for something like this?

• What process does professional website building follow?

  I've searched for a while, but I can't find anything related on Google or here. Me and some friends were debating starting a company, so I figure it might be good to do a quick pilot project to see how well we can work together. We have a designer who can do HTML, CSS and Flash, enjoys doing art, but doesn't like to do HTML and CSS... And 2 programmers that are willing to do anything. My question is, from an experienced site builder's perspective, what steps do we do - in chronological order - to properly handle a website? Does the designer design the look and feel of the site, then the programmers fill in the gaps with functionality? Or do the programmers create a "mock-up" of the site with most of the functionality, then the designer spices it up? Or is it more of a back-and-forth process? I just want to know how a professional normally handles it.

  I have downloaded the predicate builder and am having a difficult time getting it to work with the entity framework. Here is my code: v_OrderDetail is the entity var context = new OrdersEntities(); Expression<Func<v_OrderDetail,bool>> whereClause = w => true; var predicate = PredicateBuilder.True<v_OrderDetail>(); predicate.And(w => w.Status == "Work"); var results = context.v_OrderDetail.AsExpandable().Where(predicate); When I look at the results I get back every order. The And predicate doesn't seem to take. When I look at the predicate.parameters.count it only shows 1. I'm not sure, but I would expect it to show 2 after I add the second one. Any help is greatly appreciated.
