• pptpd not working externally on Ubuntu Server 11.10

  I am trying to set up a pptpd vpn on our newly installed Ubuntu 11.10 64 bit server, but am not having success having a client connect via an iPhone to the VPN. Note that no clients have been able to connect to this VPN from outside of the network. The system is up to date with patches. Here is the output of /var/log/syslog. Please note that before running this Ubuntu server; an old SME Server box was running in place of it, that had a pptpd server on it just like we are using, and we experienced no issues.

• Issues Converting Plain Text Into Microsoft Word Bulleted Lists

  I'm a programmer. I hate status reports. I found a way to live with it. While I am working in my IDE ( Visual Slickedit ) I keep a plain text file open in one of the file/buffer tabs. As I finish things I just jot down a quick note into that file. At the end of the week that becomes my weekly status report. Example entries: The Datatables.net plugin runs very slowly in IE 8 with more than 2,000 records. I changed the way I did the server side code to process the data to make less work for the plugin to get decent performance for the IE 8 users. I made a class to wrap data from the new data collection objects into the legacy data holder objects. This will let the new database code be backward compatible with the legacy code until we can replace it. I found the bug reported by Jane. The software is fine. The database we use for the test site has data that is corrupted in a way it wouldn't be for production site At the end of the month I go back to each weekly *.txt file and paste all of the entries into a MS Word file for a monthly report. I give the monthly report to a liason to the contracting company who has to compile everyone's monthly reports into a single MS Word 2007 document. His problem, soon to be my problem, comes when he highlights my paragraphs like the ones above to put bullets in front of my paragraphs. When he highlights my notes to put bullets in front of them with MS Word 2007, Word rearranges the text a bit and the new line chars/carriage returns stagger the text so the text is no longer in neat chunks. It just puts some kind of newline character in anyway. Searching/Replacing those chars in the text files has the result of destroying the paragraphs. Once my notes are pasted into MS Word, Word automatically translates them into paragraph breaks. Searching/Replacing them there has similar results. Blank lines separating the notes disappears. One big mess. What I would like is to be able to keep adding my status notes to a text file as I am now, but do something different when I paste the notes into MS Word such that my liason can select the text, hit the bulleting command and NOT have the staggered text as shown above. • Installing EclipseFP on Mac OS X

  I am trying to install EclipseFP. I'm running OS X Mavericks. I've tried following both the official installation instructions and the advice in this answer on SU, but I'm still having the same problem. I can get the plugin itself installed painlessly using Help -> Install New Software..., Bbut when I restart and switch to the Haskell perspective, things start to go wrong. The installation instructions tells me that I should receive a prompt to install BuildWrapper and Scion Browser. I do not receive this prompt. Furthermore, if I create a new Haskell project, my code has no syntax highlighting, and the Hoogle search feature does not appear to do anything. It's clear that the plugin is not set up correctly yet. I've tried running cabal update in Terminal, but this does not change anything. After several attempts going round in circles with this on Eclipse Juno, I uninstalled Eclispe and the Haskell Platform and performed a clean install of Eclipse Luna and the latest Haskell Platform. However, the problems are persisting. I've tried going into Preferences to see if I could sort any of this out manually. I should initially point out that my GHC installation seems to be correctly references under Preferences -> Haskell Implementations Under Haskell -> Helper executables, there are areas for configuring the options of both BuildWrapper and Scion Browser. At present, both are blank. I tried clicking the Install from Hackage... button beside each of them with no success; I receive an error message saying Expected executable <workspace>/.metadata/.plugins/net.sf.eclipsefp.haskell.ui/sandbox/.cabal-sandbox/bin/buildwrapper not found!` (replace buildwrapper for scion-browser and the message is the same) The Eclipse console displays the following exception after doing the above with BuildWrapper: src/Language/Haskell/BuildWrapper/GHCStorage.hs:313:32: Not in scope: data constructor ‘MatchGroup’ cabal.real: Error: some packages failed to install: buildwrapper-0.7.4 failed during the building phase. Apologies if any of this information is irrelevant, I'm just not really sure what is important and what isn't at this point. Any help anyone could provide me with would be greatly appreciated.

  Hello, first time here... great site Well, I want to reference a web service, and it requires user/pass authentication. In VS 2008, if I try to "add reference", or "add service reference", all I can type is the URL, there's no way to input my credentials. Obviously, if I try to load the ws, it shows me a nice message: "The request failed with HTTP status 403: Forbidden. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Anonymous'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Basic realm="weblogic"'. The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized." So my question is: Is it possible (using VS 2008) to add a reference to a web service that is protected? How? Any help is kindly appreciated. Thanks!

• Making ehcache read-write for test code and read-only for production code

  I would like to annotate many of my Hibernate entities that contain reference data and/or configuration data with @Cache(usage = CacheConcurrencyStrategy.READ_ONLY) However, my JUnit tests are setting up and tearing down some of this reference/configuration data using the Hibernate entities. Is there a recommended way of having entities be read-write during test setup and teardown but read-only for production code? Two of my immediate thoughts for non-ideal workarounds are: Using NONSTRICT_READ_WRITE, but I am not sure what the hidden downsides are. Creating subclassed entities in my test code to override the read-only cache annotation. Any recommendations on the cleanest way to handle this? (Note: Project uses maven.)

  I have managed to track a problem where within eclipse I see no error, but anywhere outside eclipse the error exists. The error I get when run outside eclipse is LazyInitializationException from hibernate - caused by a ${entity.service.id} reference in the jsp. Outside eclipse I have tried jetty standalone, mvn jetty:run from the command line, and tomcat. I've cleaned the projects, disabled workspace dependency etc. I'm using eclipse galileo, m2eclipse 0.9.8.200905041414, jdk 1.6_17, maven 2.1.1 (not embedded), jetty 6.1.22 (standalone and plugin). How is that possible??

I have looked at Seam reference Seam in action These web pages However I still do not understand how to inject an EJB3 bean into a JSF backing bean. It seems to me that I have to (correct me if I am wrong) Annotate with @Name my backing bean Annotate with @Name my EJB3 bean Use the @In annotation in the backing bean Put an empty seam.properties file in the WAR that contains the backing bean Put an empty seam.properties file in the JAR that contains the EJB Set up a Seam interceptor in ejb-jar.xml of the EJB Don't I need to setup some JNDI URL somewhere? How exactly does Seam will find the EJB? The interceptor is enough? Also this means that I have to add a seam dependency in my EJB archive (because of the @Name annotation). So the web layer (Seam) "spills" into my business logic (EJB). Is this the recommended approach? Am I missing something here?

And for this one I want everything to be like in other modules(meaning dependencies) just to test hello world, then I'll go do some more complex stuff. For instance: Could I write a twitter, facebook, rss reader, or email client? Can I write a game which would allows people to play each other over the web from their own tv? Could I write a DVR app which stored tv shows on the thumbdrive plugged into the player. Can I run my applications from a thumbdrive or do I need to put them on a Blu Ray disk? Does anyone have real experience with BD-J? How do you like it as a development platform? How would you recommend getting started? • ClassNotFoundException error in implementing Bayesian algorithm in Apache Mahout on Hadoop

  Hi, I have a problem in executing the Bayesian algorithm in Mahout. I built it with Maven and the job file is in target directory. When run from terminal using hadoop, I'm getting the ClassNotFoundException error.   Hi, I am working on a webapplication and I do most of the XHTML stuff in an editor. Every once in a while I froget to close a tag or mess up the nesting (we all get distracted sometimes ;-)). So I commpile, package and run my webapp (using maven mvn clean package jetty:run-war only to notice that displaying the view (where I messed up the jsp) fails with an exception while trying to render. So I wondered: Is there some tool that I can include into my build-cycle that automatically catches and rectifies those careless mistakes?

• CSS Files Don't Refresh with Wicket (Launched in Intellij via Start.java)

  I have create a skeleton Wicket project using mvn archetype:create -DarchetypeGroupId=org.apache.wicket -DarchetypeArtifactId=wicket-archetype-quickstart -DarchetypeVersion=1.4-rc4 -DgroupId=com.mycompany -DartifactId=myproject All the configuration/importing new project with Maven/Intellij worked fine. I proceeded to add a basic CSS file to my start page, per the following recommended way of doing it in Wicket 1.4 public class BasePage extends WebPage { public BasePage() { add(CSSPackageResource.getHeaderContribution(BasePage.class, "main.css")); } } The main.css file has been put along side BasePage.java and BasePage.html in /src/main/java. I launch the application with Start.java. The problem is when I make changes to the CSS file it is not being picked up when I relaunch Start.java. (Changes to the java and html files are being updated when I change them) I made sure the browser cache was being cleared, and even valided the request/response in Firfox/Firebug. It seems like somewhere between Wicket's magic and the jetty instance Start.java creates the CSS file is being cached and not updated. Any ideas?

• Project in Eclipse that builds a jar used by another project in Eclipse

  I have several projects open in Eclipse. One of them is the main app, and others build jars used by that main app. How do I make it so that when I hit F3 on a method call in the main app that it takes me to the source in the other project instead of taking me to the class file in the Libraries list? I got it so that it shows me the source, but I can't actually edit it like it could if I go to the other project, and similarly when I step through in the debugger it doesn't go into the editable code. I don't know if it's relevant, but we're using Maven to handle the dependencies. I know this should be simple, but I haven't found the option.

The apache site falls short. I'm looking specifically for best practices to: Automatically build local projects that are dependencies of a project Share artifacts from project to their dependents Export a project's dependencies and generated artifacts (jars) to be inherited by dependent projects Share third-party dependencies between projects I'm sure I can do all this without using Ivy - what did people do before Ivy? I really don't want to have to set up a corporate repository or rely on external repositories - the engineers here are really against that and have all their third-party jars checked into src control. Can anyone point me at a good open source example of a multi-project ant build?

• Sending Illegal XML Characters in Soap Request

  I am trying to send special (&, ' (single quote)) characters in the Soap Request. I am using axis 1.4. The webservice client is in weblogic server and the webservice server is an ibm mainframe (COBOL program). The request data from the client contains special character (& symbol) which is converted to &amp; I tried to enclose it with CDATA as <![CDATA[Some Name & Some Data ]]> which got converted to &lt;![CDATA[Some Name &amp; Some Data]]&gt; The webservice client is generated from wsdl, so I couldn't use CDATA api to construct the request. I am able to set it as string value, and it is getting converted. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you need any more information on this.

  Hi, I'm getting a "java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.ejb.EJBObject" error when I'm running my application as a JAR file. When running it in Eclipse everything is working fine. The application properly access the main class and the main method. But when it tries to load the application context it cannot resolve a reference to an EJB bean. I then get the following error: Error creating bean with name 'bc' defined in class path resource [blabla.xml]: Initialization of bean failed; nested exception is java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: javax/ejb/EJBObject at org.springframework.beans.factory.support.BeanDefinitionValueResolver .resolveReference(BeanDefinitionValueResolver.java:275) ... Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: javax.ejb.EJBObject I've included all runtime-scoped dependencies with Maven in the JAR file. Do you know any further information regarding this error?

• Any serious problems when making an old java web app run on new IE 8 browser?

  I need make an quick estimation on project (not sure we got): It's an old banking CMS java web app: Server: jdk5, weblogic 9. Client: winXP, Ie6. It was design only for use with ie6 but now we need make it also run well on new client: ie8,ie7 on win7. I understand the most difference is the client: DOM and CSS. But my problem is we hasn't been worked with ie8, and I have not enough time to build an testing environment because our developing environment is not ready to make test (its remoting completely, and managed by another partner) Any experience or suggestion to help me weighing this task need will be welcomed.

• Huge EAR deployment

  Hello all, I'm trying to figure out how to deploy a huge (40-50 MB) EAR file to the server through a rather slow VPN connection. The EAR contains EJB and WAR projects created in Glassfish, and 90% of the file size is from external dependency libraries used. Has anyone came up with a strategy for elegant deployment to production system from Netbeans, where the deployment (over the network) is done only for what is really needed (i.e. just one WAR, not the entire EAR, or just one lib, not the entire libraries subproject). Related to the first point, how to separate external dependency libs from project in Netbeans, so that the project compiles on development machine, but when the EAR/WAR/EJB is created it does not contain all the dependency JARs, which are making it huge. Perhaps we need to write custom ant script? Start using maven? Thank you all for kind answers, Bozo

• URLCallback with JAAS on WAS?

  I extended the JAAS javax.security.auth.spi.LoginModule, and installed it into a WAS server. It works; all logins go through the code in this new class, and if it says to not let them login, they're prevented from logging in. The root problem: I don't want it to filter logins for the admin console (/ibm/console), but I do want it to filter logins for other things on the server. I think that with the available setup, the login module applies to everything installed on the server, including the administration screens. I'd like to solve that by getting the URL of the page that triggered the call to the LoginModule. If I were using WebLogic, I'd use a URLCallback to get the URL. Does anyone know if Websphere Application Server has any parallel functionality to that, or if there's another workaround?

  I'm using Oracle Advanced Queues via JMS from within Websphere App Server. Does anyone know what effect the following two properties have:- - oracle.jms.useEmulatedXA - oracle.jms.useNativeXA I have seen mentioned in some blogs and quick start guides, usually in sentences along the lines of "Add -Doracle.jms.useEmulatedXA=false -Doracle.jms.useNativeXA=true to the JAVA_PROPERTIES variable", without any explanation as to what they do:- e.g. http://biemond.blogspot.com/2008/11/using-aq-in-weblogic-103.html http://sqltech.cl/doc/oas10gR31/integrate.1013/b28994/adptr_aq.htm#CHDEADFB I'm curious as to what these two properties actually do, and what the implications of setting them are, even though they don't seem to have any affect on our app regardless of whether we set them or not.
