• Installing Forms and Reports on a development system

  By popular demand I've resurrected / updated one of the old blog postings from Jan Carlin's Blog on GroundSide here. A recent (lengthy) post on the Forms forums chronicles the problems some of you have had installing F&R on a development machine. See the link in the headline of this post for the main one. When installing, here are some points to bear in mind: Download and install Weblogic Server first. http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/middleware/index.htmlFind the Forms and Reports (and Disco and Portal) zip files here. Download them to the desktop (or some other temporary directory of your choosing). Unzip both of the two zip files into the same new directory (maybe called 'stage') and check that you have 4 directories in the stage dir when you are finished unzipping: 'Disk1', 'Disk2', 'Disk3' and 'Disk4'. These folders are specified in the zip file structure and must be preserved for the setup executable to work. If you use WinZip and have a right click menu option that say "Extract to here", use that by right click-dragging the zip file onto the newly created directory. Don't use the "Extract to folder %HOME%\Desktop\ofm_pfrd...disk_1of2" option. That will get you into the trouble that was reported early in this thread. Free up as much memory as you can. Stop services and background processes and virus scanners and databases (you don't need a DB to install Forms) and other things lurking about on your machine. You can restart them when the install is done. Around 1.5 GB free real memory should do it. If it doesn't, free up more if you can. Don't change the swap space unless you know what you are doing. Let Windows handle it. A 1 GB machine will likely not be enough. You will likely need at least 2GB of RAM.Start the install with setup.exe from the 'Disk1' directoryChoose the Install and Configure option unless you have a good reason not to.Choose a unique instance name even if you deinstalled and removed the last install. I suggest using 'asinst_20090722_1' (today's date in ISO format with a running incremented number at the end if you install more than two times on a particular day).Unselect Portal and Discoverer and select the Builders you want.Unselect WebCacheUnselect OHS.Unselect the single sign-on option Check for any failures and choose the retry option if any occur. If that doesn't fix the problem, call Oracle Customer Support .

• WebCenter Spaces 11g PS2 Template Customization

  Recently, we have been involved in a WebCenter Spaces customization project. Customer sent us a prototype website in HTML, and we had to transform Spaces to set the same look&feel as in the prototype.Protoype:First of all, we downloaded a Virtual Machine with WebCenter Spaces 11g PS2, same version as customer's. The next step was to download ExtendWebCenterSpaces application. This is a webcenter application that customizes several elements of WebCenter Spaces: templates, skins, landing page, etc. jDeveloper configuration is needed, we followed steps described in Extended Guide, this blog was helpful too. . After that, we deployed the application using WebLogic console, we created a new group space and assigned the ExtendedWebCenterSpaces template (portalCentricSiteTemplate) to it. The result was this:As you may see there is a big difference with the prototype, which meant a lot of work to do from our side.So we needed to create a new Spaces template with its skin.Using jDeveloper, we created a new template based on the default template. We removed all menus we did not need and inserted 'include'  tags for header, breadcrumb and footers. Each of these elements was defined in an isolated jspx file.In the beginning, we faced a problem: we had to add code from prototype (in plain HTML) to jspx templates (JSF language). We managed to workaround this issue using 'verbatim' tags with 'CDATA' surrounding HTML code in header, breadcrumb and footers.Once the template was modified, we added css styles to the default skin. So we had some styles from portalCentricSiteTemplate plus styles from customer's prototype.Then, we re-deployed the application, assigned this template to a new group space and checked the result. After testing, we usually found issues, so we had to do some modifications in the application, then it was necessary to re-deploy the application and restart Spaces server. Due to this fact, the testing process takes quite a bit of time.Added to the template and skin customization, we also customized the Landing Page using this application and Members task flow using another application: SpacesTaskflowCustomizationApplication. I will talk about this task flow customization in a future entry.After some issues and workarounds, eventually we managed to get this look&feel in Spaces:P.S. In this customization I was working with Francisco Vega and Jose Antonio Labrada, consultants from Oracle Malaga International Consulting Centre.

• Monitoring Html Element CSS Changes in JavaScript

  [ updated Feb 15, 2011: Added event unbinding to avoid unintended recursion ] Here's a scenario I've run into on a few occasions: I need to be able to monitor certain CSS properties on an HTML element and know when that CSS element changes. For example, I have a some HTML element behavior plugins like a drop shadow that attaches to any HTML element, but I then need to be able to automatically keep the shadow in sync with the window if the  element dragged around the window or moved via code. Unfortunately there's no move event for HTML elements so you can't tell when it's location changes. So I've been looking around for some way to keep track of the element and a specific CSS property, but no luck. I suspect there's nothing native to do this so the only way I could think of is to use a timer and poll rather frequently for the property. The following code creates a box and uses the draggable (jquery.ui) plugin and a couple of custom plugins that center and create a shadow. Here's how I can set this up with the watcher: $("#box") .draggable() .centerInClient() .shadow() .watch("top", function() { $(this).shadow(); },70,"_shadow"); ... $("#box") .unwatch("_shadow") .shadow("remove"); This code basically sets up the window to be draggable and initially centered and then a shadow is added. The .watch() call then assigns a CSS property to monitor (top in this case) and a function to call in response. The component now sets up a setInterval call and keeps on pinging this property every time. When the top value changes the supplied function is called. While this works and I can now drag my window around with the shadow following suit it's not perfect by a long shot. The shadow move is delayed and so drags behind the window, but using a higher timer value is not appropriate either as the UI starts getting jumpy if the timer's set with too small of an increment. This sort of monitor can be useful for other things as well where operations are maybe not quite as time critical as a UI operation taking place. • WNA Configuration in OAM 11g

  Pre-Requisite: Kerberos authentication scheme has to exist. This is usually pre-configured OAM authentication scheme. It should have Authentication Level - "2", Challenge Method - "WNA", Challenge Direct URL - "/oam/server" and Authentication Module- "Kerberos". The default authentication scheme name is "KerberosScheme", this name can be changed. The DNS name has to be resolvable on the OAM Server. The DNS name with referrals to AD have to be resolvable on OAM Server. Ensure nslookup work for the referrals. Pre-Install: AD team to produce keytab file on the AD server by running ktpass command. Provide OAM Hostname to AD Team. Receive from AD team the following: Keypass file produced when running the ktpass command ktpass username ktpass password Copy the keytab file to convenient location in OAM install tree and rename the file if desired. For instance where oam-policy.xml file resides. i.e. /fa_gai2_d/idm/admin/domains/idm-admin/IDMDomain/config/fmwconfig/keytab.kt Configure WNA Authentication on OAM Server: Create config file krb.config and set the environment variable to the path to this file: KRB_CONFIG=/fa_gai2_d/idm/admin/domains/idm-admin/IDMDomain/config/fmwconfig/krb.conf The variable KRB_CONFIG has to be set in the profile for the user that OAM java container(i.e. Wbelogic Server) runs as, so that this setting is available to the OAM server. i.e. "applmgr" user. In the krb.conf file specify: [libdefaults] default_realm= NOA.ABC.COM dns_lookup_realm= true dns_lookup_kdc= true ticket_lifetime= 24h forwardable= yes [realms] NOA.ABC.COM={ kdc=hub21.noa.abc.com:88 admin_server=hub21.noa.abc.com:749 default_domain=NOA.ABC.COM [domain_realm] .abc.com=ABC.COM abc.com=ABC.COM .noa.abc.com=NOA.ABC.COM noa.abc.com=NOA.ABC.COM Where hub21.noa.abc.com is load balanced DNS VIP name for AD Server and NOA.ABC.COM is the name of the domain. Create authentication policy to WNA protect the resource( i.e. EBSR12) and choose the "KerberosScheme" as authentication scheme. Login to OAM Console => Policy Configuration Tab => Browse Tab => Shared Components => Application Domains => IAM Suite => Authentication Policies => Create Name: ABC WNA Auth Policy Authentication Scheme: KerberosScheme Failure URL: http://hcm.noa.abc.com/cgi-bin/welcome Edit System Configuration for Kerberos System Configuration Tab => Access Manager Settings => expand Authentication Modules => expand Kerberos Authentication Module => double click on Kerberos Edit "Key Tab File" textbox - put in /fa_gai2_d/idm/admin/domains/idm-admin/IDMDomain/config/fmwconfig/keytab.kt Edit "Principal" textbox - put in HTTP/[email protected] Edit "KRB Config File" textbox - put in /fa-gai2_d/idm/admin/domains/idm-admin/IDMDomain/config/fmwconfig/krb.conf Cilck "Apply" In the script setting environment for the WLS server where OAM is deployed set the variable: KRB_CONFIG=/fa_gai2_d/idm/admin/domains/idm-admin/IDMDomain/config/fmwconfig/krb.conf Re-start OAM server and OAM Server Container( Weblogic Server)

• Oracle Developer Day, Poland, 2012

  Oracle Developer Day took place in Poland today. Oracle's Gregor Rayman did the keynote, where NetBeans was positioned, yet again, as Oracle's IDE for the Java Platform, via the JavaFX Roadmap: Well, it's not so clear from my pic above, but NetBeans is closely tied to the JavaFX Roadmap, as well as the JDK Roadmap too. Then the tracks started, one of which was the Java Track (the other two tracks were on ADF/WebLogic and SOA/BPM/BAM), where among other things I demonstrated the Java EE 6 Platform via tools in NetBeans IDE at some length. The room could hardly have been fuller, chairs had to be brought in and people were standing along the walls. The above pic shows the session being set up, with the room full of developers ready to hear about Java EE 6. I also did a session on pluggable Java desktop development (i.e., NetBeans Platform) and on "What's New in NetBeans IDE 7.1?", while Martin Grebac had a session on Java EE Web Services. Some of the many questions asked during the day that I thought were interesting: Is there localization support for the @Pattern annotation? I.e., what if I want to display the error message in Polish, what do I do? Is there filtering/sorting support for the DataTable component in JSF? Why is there no visual editor for ejb-jar.xml, in the same way that there is for web.xml? "Would be handy if there were to be a JSR for IDE Keyboard Shortcuts." (Two different people asked this question, separately, without knowing about each other. The second didn't know about the Eclipse and IntelliJ keyboard shortcut support in NetBeans IDE and was happy when I told them about it.) Wouldn't it be cool if, on start up, or during installation, there'd be a question: "Are you migrating from Eclipse/IntelliJ?" Then, if "yes", reset the keyboard shortcuts to match the IDE they're coming from.Is there a way in NetBeans to find subclasses of a class? "Would be cool if HTML or JSF files could be visualized in the same way as JavaFX and Swing classes." I.e., Visual Debugger for web developers. I had a great day and am looking at the Oracle Developer Day that will be held in Cluj, Romania, on Friday.

• How to select the first ocurrence in the auto-completion menu by pressing Enter?

  Every time there's is a pop up menu. I select the first occurrence and press enter but nothing happens (the word is not completed with he selected occurrence). The only way is to press Tab until you reach the term for a second time. Is there a way of selecting the first occurrence pressing Enter (or other Vim hotkey)? • Oracle BPM: Adding an attachment during the Human Task Initialization

  Recently I had the requirement from a customer to instantiate a Human Task, which can accept a payload containing a binary attribute (base64) representing an actual document. According to the same requirement, this attribute should be shown as a hyperlink in the Worklist UI to the assignee(s), from which the assignees can download the document on the local machine for review. Multiple options have been leverage, but most required heavy customization.  In order to leverage as much as possible Oracle BPM out-of-the box functionalities, I decided to add this document as a readonly attachment. We can easily achieve this operation within Worklist Application, but it is a bit more challenging when we want to attach the document during the Human Task initialization.  After some investigations (on BPM 11g PS4FP and PS5), here's the way to go: 1. Create an asynchronous BPM process, and use this xsd to create 2 Business Objects FullPayload and PartialPayload : 2. Create 2 process variables 'vFullPayload' and 'vPartialPayload' using this Business Objects created above 3. Implement the Start Event with the initial Data Association, with an input argument using 'FullPayload' Business Object type 4. Drag in an User Task into the process. Implement the User Task as usual by using 'vPartialPayload' type as the input type and assign the task to your favorite tester (mine is jcooper) 5. Here's the main course - Start the Data Association and map the payload into 'execData' as follow: FROM TO  vFullPayload.attachment.mimetype  execData.attachment[1].mimeType  vFullPayload.attachment.filename  execData.attachment[1].name  bpmn:getDataObject('vFullPayload')/ns:attachment/ns:content  execData.attachment[1].content  'BPM'  execData.attachment[1].attachmentScope false()  execData.attachment[1].doesBelongToParent 'weblogic'  execData.attachment[1].updateBy  xp20:current-dateTime()  execData.attachment[1].updateDate (Note: Check the <Humantask>WorkflowTask.xsd file in your project xsd folder to discover the different options for attachmentScope & storageType) 6. Finally, go to the BPM Worklist application to check the result ! Please note that Oracle BPM, by default, limits the attachment document size to 2Mb. If you are planning to have bigger attachments in your process, it is recommended to store your documents in a Content Management server (such as Oracle UCM) and pass the reference instead. It is possible to configure Oracle BPM to store attachment directly into Oracle UCM too, and I believe we can use the storageType, ucmMetadataItem attributes for this purpose.... I will confirm once I have access onto an Oracle UCM for the testing :)

• Use CSS Selectors with HtmlUnit

  HtmlUnit is a great library for performing web integration tests in Java.  But sometimes node traversal can be somewhat cumbersome. Fear not fellow automated tester (good for you!).  I found a great little project on Github that will allow you to query your document for elements via css selectors similar to jQuery. The project is located at https://github.com/chrsan/css-selectors.  You can use Maven to build it, or download 1.0.2 here.  Beware.  I will not be updating this link so I suggest you download the latest code. • Oracle's Cloud Strategie nach der OOW 2012

  Auf der diesjährigen Oracle Open World war „die Cloud“ nicht nur ein vielbenutztes Buzzword, sondern auch Anlass für einige interessante Ankündigungen. Wer keine Zeit oder Muße hatte, sich die entsprechenden Keynotes von Larry Ellison und Thomas Kurian anzuhören, erfährt in diesem Artikel die wesentlichen Änderungen. Die erste Neuerung: Oracle wird in Zukunft alle drei „Sorten“ bzw. „Ebenen“ von Cloud Computing anbieten: SaaS (Software as a Service) – die Bereitstellung von kompletten Fachanwendungen z.B. aus der eBusiness Suite in Form eines Mietmodells - gab es schon länger. Abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass hier zusätzliche/neuere Komponenten und Module der durch die letzten Zukäufe von Oracle noch breiter gewordenen Palette angeboten werden, ändert sich am Prinzip nichts. Bei PaaS (Plattform as a Service) sind vor allem die beiden bereits letztes Jahr angekündigten Dienste „Database Service“ (basierend auf APEX) und „Java Service“ (basierend auf Weblogic) zu nennen, für die nun auch konkrete Pakete und Preise (ca.175$ bis 2000$/Monat) sowie die Möglichkeit zur Anmeldung auf http://cloud.oracle.com vorliegen. Interessanterweise gehört auch ein sog. „Social Service“ in diese Schicht, mit der Oracle Kunden ihre Anwendungen in Zukunft auf standardisierte Weise durch Social Networking Funktionalität wie z.B. Microblogging erweitern können.Ebenso neu angekündigt wurde ein "Developer Service", welcher z.B. Sourcecode-Verwaltung durch GIT Repositories sowie Wikis und Issue Tracking bereit stellen soll. Die dort mittels JDeveloper, Netbeans oder Eclipse erstellten Applikationen können dann nahtlos innerhalb kürzester Zeit in den Java Service deployed werden. Komplett neu und für einige sicher überraschend ist hingegen der Bereich IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) – Hier geht es um die Bereitstellung von Basis-Infrastrukturkomponenten wie Storage, Rechenleistung (letztlich also Betriebssysteme / VMs) und Messaging / Queueing. Genaue Details oder Preise zu den IaaS Angeboten sind noch nicht bekannt, aber zumindest zu den Storage- und Messaging Services können grundlegende Daten bereits auf http://cloud.oracle.com eingesehen werden Die zweite Neuerung: Kunden können in Zukunft als Alternative zum Betrieb der o.g. „Oracle Cloud“, diese auch komplett hinter ihrer eigenen Firewall aufbauen lassen. Mit anderen Worten: Oracle baut und betreibt bei diesem als „Oracle Private Cloud“ bezeichneten Angebot alle Komponenten selbst – die Daten verlassen aber niemals das Gebäude des Kunden. Letzteres ist gerade bei uns im Datenschutz-sensiblen Deutschland ein wichtiger Aspekt. Da die verwendeten Komponenten in beiden Fällen die gleichen sind, ist auch ein „Umziehen“ oder Erweitern der Private Cloud in die Public Cloud (oder zurück) ohne Änderungen an den Anwendungen möglich. Der Möglichkeit einer "Hybrid Cloud", bei der Teile einer Anwendung hinter der eigenen Firewall, andere Teile aber in der Oracle Cloud laufen, wird damit Realität.

• Chrome and Firefox not able to find some sites after Ubuntu's recent update?

  Loading of revision3.com in Chrome stops and status saying "waiting for static.inplay.tubemogul.com" grooveshark.com in Chrome never loads But wikipedia.org, google.com works just normal same behavior in Firefox too. I use wired DSL connection in Ubuntu 12.04. I guess this started happening after I upgraded the Chrome browser or Flash plugin few days ago from Ubuntu updates through update-manager. Thanks EDIT: Everything works normal in my WinXP. Problem is only in Ubuntu 12.04. • How to Recover From a Virus Infection: 3 Things You Need to Do

  If your computer becomes infected with a virus or another piece of malware, removing the malware from your computer is only the first step. There’s more you need to do to ensure you’re secure. Note that not every antivirus alert is an actual infection. If your antivirus program catches a virus before it ever gets a chance to run on your computer, you’re safe. If it catches the malware later, you have a bigger problem. Change Your Passwords You’ve probably used your computer to log into your email, online banking websites, and other important accounts. Assuming you had malware on your computer, the malware could have logged your passwords and uploaded them to a malicious third party. With just your email account, the third party could reset your passwords on other websites and gain access to almost any of your online accounts. To prevent this, you’ll want to change the passwords for your important accounts — email, online banking, and whatever other important accounts you’ve logged into from the infected computer. You should probably use another computer that you know is clean to change the passwords, just to be safe. When changing your passwords, consider using a password manager to keep track of strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication to prevent people from logging into your important accounts even if they know your password. This will help protect you in the future. Ensure the Malware Is Actually Removed Once malware gets access to your computer and starts running, it has the ability to do many more nasty things to your computer. For example, some malware may install rootkit software and attempt to hide itself from the system. Many types of Trojans also “open the floodgates” after they’re running, downloading many different types of malware from malicious web servers to the local system. In other words, if your computer was infected, you’ll want to take extra precautions. You shouldn’t assume it’s clean just because your antivirus removed what it found. It’s probably a good idea to scan your computer with multiple antivirus products to ensure maximum detection. You may also want to run a bootable antivirus program, which runs outside of Windows. Such bootable antivirus programs will be able to detect rootkits that hide themselves from Windows and even the software running within Windows. avast! offers the ability to quickly create a bootable CD or USB drive for scanning, as do many other antivirus programs. You may also want to reinstall Windows (or use the Refresh feature on Windows 8) to get your computer back to a clean state. This is more time-consuming, especially if you don’t have good backups and can’t get back up and running quickly, but this is the only way you can have 100% confidence that your Windows system isn’t infected. It’s all a matter of how paranoid you want to be. Figure Out How the Malware Arrived If your computer became infected, the malware must have arrived somehow. You’ll want to examine your computer’s security and your habits to prevent more malware from slipping through in the same way. Windows is complex. For example, there are over 50 different types of potentially dangerous file extensions that can contain malware to keep track of. We’ve tried to cover many of the most important security practices you should be following, but here are some of the more important questions to ask: Are you using an antivirus? – If you don’t have an antivirus installed, you should. If you have Microsoft Security Essentials (known as Windows Defender on Windows 8), you may want to switch to a different antivirus like the free version of avast!. Microsoft’s antivirus product has been doing very poorly in tests. Do you have Java installed? – Java is a huge source of security problems. The majority of computers on the Internet have an out-of-date, vulnerable version of Java installed, which would allow malicious websites to install malware on your computer. If you have Java installed, uninstall it. If you actually need Java for something (like Minecraft), at least disable the Java browser plugin. If you’re not sure whether you need Java, you probably don’t. Are any browser plugins out-of-date? – Visit Mozilla’s Plugin Check website (yes, it also works in other browsers, not just Firefox) and see if you have any critically vulnerable plugins installed. If you do, ensure you update them — or uninstall them. You probably don’t need older plugins like QuickTime or RealPlayer installed on your computer, although Flash is still widely used. Are your web browser and operating system set to automatically update? – You should be installing updates for Windows via Windows Update when they appear. Modern web browsers are set to automatically update, so they should be fine — unless you went out of your way to disable automatic updates. Using out-of-date web browsers and Windows versions is dangerous. Are you being careful about what you run? – Watch out when downloading software to ensure you don’t accidentally click sketchy advertisements and download harmful software. Avoid pirated software that may be full of malware. Don’t run programs from email attachments. Be careful about what you run and where you get it from in general. If you can’t figure out how the malware arrived because everything looks okay, there’s not much more you can do. Just try to follow proper security practices. You may also want to keep an extra-close eye on your credit card statement for a while if you did any online-shopping recently. As so much malware is now related to organized crime, credit card numbers are a popular target.
