• Why does ASP.Net locks when I update code with TortoiseSVN

  Hi, when I update Adobe Flash/Flex code that is not related to ASP.Net with TortoiseSVN (latest) on a Windows Server 2008, the complete website locks and stop responding. Is it ASP.Net recompiling my code, is it IIS 7 or is it Tortoise locking the file system? How can I prevent or minimize this if I need to do an update when 1000 users are using the ASP.Net website? UPDATE: Thanks to Aito and Bryan, I learned more about AppDomain. I found these two links where I discover that folder creation/deletion recycle the AppDomain in ASP.Net 2. --If TortoiseSVN creates folders in it's hidden .svn folders hierarchy, I guess it will lock the app! • TFS: How to dectet changed files when loading a solution?

  I am new to TFS integration with Visual Studio 2010, and I have a problem I would like to solve. Practically, when I open a solution, how can I detect, looking only at the Solution Explorer which file has been changed since my last login? I am able to discover the changed files if I look at the Latest column of Source Control Explorer but it is not so intuitive. I attach you an image for better understanding. I would like to have a different icon, not the lock, for frmAbout.vb (in this case), associated to the item in Solution Explorer. Do you have any idea how can I achieve this behavior? Or some alternatives?

• Cygwin command not found bad characters found in .bashrc 357\273\277

  Hello, I'm new to Cygwin, I just installed it and attempted to set some simple environment variables. However, when I open the command shell, I get the error "#357\273\277 command not found" I found an article that discusses what the problem is and how to "discover" the hidden bad character: http://mblog.lib.umich.edu/DataDiscussions/archives/2010/01/index.html but I don't know how to resolve the issue by removing the character (which I validated was a problem in my .bashrc file using the od command). I attempted to change the preferences view in Notepad++ to UTF-8 and ANSI to no avail, but the file was not altered at all. Any help would be appreciated...

  I'm trying to create my first Windows Service in C# VS2010 and slowly discover how I should do things. But now I have reached a point, where I cannot install a new version of my service. My setup program tells me Error 1001. Service MyService was not found on computer '.'. --> The specified service does not exists as an installed service. The last part of the message is translated into english from danish. I cannot see the service in either the service list (services.msc) or in the registry. I have removed the left overs from a previous installation, so no traces here either. I have emptied the temporary folder under my windows account. Where do I locate the rest of the remains obstructing my installation of the service?

• How to avoid this very heavy query that slows down the application?

  Hi, We have a web application running in a production enviroment and at some point the client complained about how slow the application got. When we checked what was going on with the application and the database we discover this "precious" query that was being executed by several users at the same time (thus inflicting an extremely high load on the database server): SELECT NULL AS table_cat, o.owner AS table_schem, o.object_name AS table_name, o.object_type AS table_type, NULL AS remarks FROM all_objects o WHERE o.owner LIKE :1 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_0" AND o.object_name LIKE :2 ESCAPE :"SYS_B_1" AND o.object_type IN(:"SYS_B_2", :"SYS_B_3") ORDER BY table_type, table_schem, table_name Our application does not execute this query, I believe it is an Hibernate internal query. I've found little information on why Hibernate does this extremely heavy query, so any help in how to avoid it very much appreciated! The production enviroment information: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.3 (Tikanga), JDK 1.5, web container OC4J (whitin Oracle Application Server), Oracle Database 10.1.0.4, JDBC Driver for JDK 1.2 and 1.3, Hibernate version 3.2.6.ga, connection pool library C3P0 version 0.9.1.   Hi guys, i'm having a problem when i try to host my website on godaddy. This is what i receive from website: Exception Details: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. To discover the problem, i've tried changin my web.config, adding "trust level='Medium'". But i get an error when i try to access godaddy mysql server with the mysql connector. Any ideas ?   Are there any limitations with respect to developing ASP.NET and WPF apps using VS 2008/2010 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7 Home Premium? I know you can run IIS 7.5 on Home Premium. I Googled and Binged on Home Premium and VS/SQL Server and couldn't find much. It doesn't look like the features missing from Home Premium, domain joining, xp mode, etc... shouldn't prevent one from running and developing in VS/SQL Server. Update I did discover one limitation w/IIS 7.5 and it applies to all versions of Windows 7 I think. You can't create your own self signed SSL certificate specifying a name other than the machine name. You're stuck with your machine name which isn't that big a deal, but it is a change from previous versions.

  I am using an external library for Artificial Neural Networks in my project.. While testing the ANN, It gave me output of all NaN (not a number in C#) The ANN has 8 input , 5 hidden , 5 hidden , 2 output, and all activation layers are of Linear type , and it uses back-propagation, with learning rate 0.65 I used one testcase for training { -2.2, 1.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0.1, 5, 3, -5 } ,{ -0.3, 0.2 } for 1000 epoch And I tested it on { 0.2, -0.2, 5.3, 0.4, 0.5, 0, 35, 0.0 } which gave { NaN , NaN} Note: this is one example of many that produces same case... I am trying to discover whether it is a bug in the library, or an illogical configuration.. The reasons I could think of for illogical configuration: All layers should not be linear Can not have descending size layers, i.e 8-5-5-2 is bad.. Only one testcase ? Values must be in range [0,1] or [-1,1] Is any of the above reasons could be the cause of error, or there are some constraints/rules that I do not know in ANN designing..? Note: I am newbie in ANN

• Interspire to Magento migration

  Hello, I recently started with Magento and decided to migrate Interspire shopping cart I already made time ago to it. At first look Magento seems a very huge beast - lots of options, maybe lack of simplicity resulting in some performance loss. I've got user guide from which I am not getting much of benefit since there're just descriptions of very ordinary tasks that I could easily discover myself by poking around frontend/backend. So my first tasks are category and product export. Interspire seems to be exporting ONLY products in three available formats: Default MYOB Peachtree accounting I did some searching on Magento's product importing and found a blog post which says that I should create a few sample products with all the necessary attributes myself and then start the import. But what should I do with categories ? Is it possible to import them or instruct Magento to automatically create categories when importing product file if unknown category is encountered ? Thanks

• How to add request validation errors to ModelStateDictionary in ASP.NET MVC?

  Investigating the security of a system I'm building with ASP.NET MVC 2 led me to discover the request validation feature of ASP.NET - a very neat feature, indeed. But obviously I don't just want to present the users with the Yellow Screen of Death when they enter data with HTML in, so I'm out to find a better solution. My idea is to find all the fields that have invalid data and add them to the ModelStateDictionary before invoking the action such that they automatically appear in the UI as error messages. After googling this a bit it appears that no one have implemented this before which I find puzzling since it seems so obvious. Does anyone here have a suggestion on how to do this? My own idea is to supply a custom ControllerActionInvoker to the controller, as described here, that somehow checks for this and modifies the ModelStateDictionary but I'm stuck on how to do this last bit. Just catching HttpRequestValidationException exceptions does not seem a useful approach since it does not actually contain all the information I need.

Now, a specific scenario requires me to discover user's LDAP groups at arbitrary time (not at login time). Is it possible to use already set up Acegi to handle this situation? I'm thinking of using the configured LdapAuthProvider (or LdapAuthPopulator or whatever's appropriate) to get all the groups associated with a given username. Is this possible?   I have a flash based game that has a high score system implemented with a SOAP service. There are prizes involved and I want to prevent someone from using FireBug or similar to discover the webservice path and submit fake scores. I considered using some kind of encryption on the data but am aware that someone could decompile the swf and work out how I did it. I also considered using an IP whitelist but since the incoming data will come from the users IP and not the servers that won't work. (I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here...) I know that there is a tried and tested solution for this, but I don't seem to be asking google the right questions to get to it. Any help and suggestions will be appreciated, thank you

• Add Reference to a WCF Service Executable

  I have 3 projects in my solution. 1 - client, 2 - server, 3 - WCF service library. Server executable exposes the service provided in the library. I need to add a reference to it, rather than to the library directly. When I open "Add Service Reference" and click "Discover", it only lists the library data, and doesn't list the executable server option.   So we are a few guys developing this product that is communicating with a really unstable server. It often returns very strange and corrupt data. During testing we want the resulting crashes to be loud, so we discover them. But every other day we need to demonstrate our product for a potential customer. To the customer the errors will go undiscovered if we just swallow them. I am thinking about implementing something like this around all server communication to quickly switch between swallowing exceptions and crashing: try { apiCall(); } catch (Exception e) { if(!SWALLOW_EXCEPTION) { throw e; } } Is this an awesome idea, or can it be done in a better way?

  Are there any good resources out there detailing Perlin noise generation? I understand that most languages have noise generating libraries available, but I'm interested in creating my own for fun/experience. I've already looked at this, which seems pretty popular, but it only gives an in-depth explanation of one dimensional noise. Google searches have been relatively unhelpful so far, as most of them focus on applications instead of how to create a generator. Books and/or websites are welcome, even if their focus is not the generation itself so long as it gives a thorough explanation of an implementation, or at least the concepts involved so I can "discover" my own.

  In my iPhone app, I'm publishing a bonjour service and using the following delegate method: - (void)netServiceDidPublish:(NSNetService *)ns { NSLog(@"Bonjour Service Published: http://%@.%@", [ns name], [ns domain]); } The "name" property is returning the device name, "How's Testing", which is correct. However, when I use Safari to discover available services the name is "hows-testing" -- the service is http://hows-testing.local.:. Why is the published name different than what is being reported by the NSNetService? How do I display for the actual name of the published service? Assuming that, for some reason, there is no way to get the published name from the object, how do I determine it myself? I understand that it's based on device name, but what are the substitution rules? Remove apostrophes, replace spaces with dash...anything else? What about special characters?

  Hi all, I'm trying to count multiple entries in a MySQL database, I know how to use COUNT(), but the exact syntax I want to get the results I need eludes me. The problem: Table structure: ID, CODE, AUTHOR, COUNTRY, TIMESTAMP. Code, Author and Country overlap many times in the table. I am trying to discover if there is one simple query that can be ran to return (using WHERE clause on COUNTRY) the author field, the code field, and then a final field that counts the number of times the CODE was present in the query result. So, theoretically I could end up with an array like: array('author', 'code', 'codeAppearsNTimes'); Authors also have varying codes associated with them, so I don't want the results merged. I suppose the end result would be: 'This author is associated with this code this many times'. Is this possible with MySQL? Thanks in advance.

  Hey folks Maybe this isn't really feasible. But basically, I've been developing a snippet-sharing website and I would like it to have a 'live demo area'. For example, you're browsing some snippets and click the Demo button. A new window pops up which executes the web code. I understand there are a gazillion security risks involved in doing this - XSS, tags, nasty malware/drive by downloads, pr0n, etc. etc. etc. The community would be able to flag submissions that are blatantly naughty but obviously some would go undetected (and, in many cases, someone would have to fall victim to discover whatever nasty thing was submitted). So I need to know: What should I do - security wise - to make sure that users can submit code, but that nothing malicious can be run - or executed offsite, etc? • Get list of named queries in NHibernate

  I have a dozen or so named queries in my NHibernate project and I want to execute them against a test database in unit tests to make sure the syntax still matches the changing domain/database model. Currently I have a unit test for each named query where I get and execute the query, for example: IQuery query = session.GetNamedQuery("GetPersonSummaries"); var personSummaryArray = query.List(); Assert.That(personSummaryArray, Is.Not.Null); This works fine, but I would like to have one unit test that loops thru all of the named queries and executes them. • Cannot pull newly-added top-level directory into sparsely-checked out SVN repository

  Our SVN repository is quite large, and pulling the whole thing takes some time. When checking out at home, I was pleased to discover the sparse checkout feature; I checked out the whole repository to a depth of 1, then pulled each top-level directory (directly under the trunk) that I needed to a depth of infinity. Until now this has been brilliant. Recently I added a new directory under trunk. When I do a svn up, I get nothing. The TLD I added will not sync. I normally use Tortoise SVN, so I tried doing this from command line. I tried explicitly specifying the name of the directory, adding --depth infinity, adding --force. None of these tricks has worked. What am I missing?
