    Take this simple, contrived example: UserRepository.GetAllUsers(); UserRepository.GetUserById(); Inevitably, I will have more complex "queries", such as: //returns users where active=true, deleted=false, and confirmed = true GetActiveUsers(); I'm having trouble determining where the responsibility of the repository ends. GetActiveUsers() represents a simple "query". Does it belong in the repository? How about something that involves a bit of logic, such as: //activate the user, set the activationCode to "used", etc. ActivateUser(string activationCode);

  • Significant amount of the time, I can't think of a reason to have an object instead of a static class. Do objects have more benefits than I think?

    I understand the concept of an object, and as a Java programmer I feel the OO paradigm comes rather naturally to me in practice. However recently I found myself thinking: Wait a second, what are actually the practical benefits of using an object over using a static class (with proper encapsulation and OO practices)? I could think of two benefits of using an object (both significant and powerful): Polymorphism: allows you to swap functionality dynamically and flexibly during runtime. Also allows to add new functionality 'parts' and alternatives to the system easily. For example if there's a Car class designed to work with Engine objects, and you want to add a new Engine to the system that the Car can use, you can create a new Engine subclass and simply pass an object of this class into the Car object, without having to change anything about Car. And you can decide to do so during runtime. Being able to 'pass functionality around': you can pass an object around the system dynamically. But are there any more advantages to objects over static classes? Often when I add new 'parts' to a system, I do so by creating a new class and instantiating objects from it. But recently when I stopped and thought about it, I realized that a static class would do just the same as an object, in a lot of the places where I normally use an object. For example, I'm working on adding a save/load-file mechanism to my app. With an object, the calling line of code will look like this: Thing thing = fileLoader.load(file); With a static class, it would look like this: Thing thing = FileLoader.load(file); What's the difference? Fairly often I just can't think of a reason to instantiate an object when a plain-old static-class would act just the same. But in OO systems, static classes are fairly rare. So I must be missing something. Are there any more advantages to objects other from the two that I listed? Please explain.

  • Sniff UNIX domain socket

    I know that some process is writing to a certain unix domain socket (/var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl), but I do not known the pid of the sender. How can I find out who is writing to the socket? I have tried with: sudo lsof /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl but it just list the owner of the socket. I would like to know who is writing / reading to this socket, and I would also like to sniff the data. Is this possible?

  • How much time do I have to remove a domain controller that was lost using metadata cleanup?

    I am wondering how long after a Domain Controller has been permanently lost, from the domain due to it dying from hardware perspective, do I have before I have to clean up references of it using meta data cleanup? Planning on doing it soon but not sure if there is anything I should be concerned about. This dead or lost domain controller had no roles other than being a Domain Controller and having integrated Active Directory DNS. As well it held NO FSMO roles, it was just an older replication Domain Controller.

  • How to reference a Domain Controller out of the Local Network?

    We have multiple servers scattered over different hosting providers. For learning, experimenting and, ultimately, production purposes, I set one of them as a Domain Controller. That went well, most of our services are now authenticating via AD, which helps us a lot. What I want to do now is to simplify the authentication for the multiple servers, by making each of them look at the Domain Controller. This way, our Devs can log into (Remote Desktop) the multiple servers with the same credentials from AD. I know I have to configure each server to look at the Domain Controller. But when I try to add the Domain Controller to the Computer, it cannot find it, although the Domain Controller address is a valid, reachable internet sub-domain (as in "ad.ourcompany.com"). This is the detailed error message: Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\Windows\debug\dcdiag.txt.     I was wondering if anyone has had any success installing Any/All of the Autodesk Suite (autocad, revit,inventor,3dsmax) and has set them up so that multiple users can log on to the domain without having issues with the applications trying to run from C:\users\usera\appdata...... I am trying to prevent the autocad initial setup using a profile (within autocad) but this didnt work either. I am using autodesk 2010. Thanks

  • Unable to access internal network through PfSense WAN port

    Our branch office is unable to connect to our internal network for some reason. However we can connect to the branch office domain controller from behind PfSense. The following is our setup: |Branch DC - 192.168.0.101 | |Branch Firewall - 192.168.0.2 | |(Internet) | |Local Firewall - 192.168.3.1 | |PFSense WAN port - 192.168.3.100 |PFSense LAN port - 192.168.1.1 | | DC1 - 192.168.1.2|DC2 - 192.168.1.4 Branch DC can ping and connect to PFSense WebGUI on the WAN port successfully (we set this up using the PfSense documentation). DC1 and DC2 can connect outbound to the Branch DC. There seems to be a rule that prevents internal access on the WAN port. However our rules are set to allow all traffic on the LAN and WAN ports. It would be ideal to just disable the firewall altogether since we already have a firewall but when we do this, PfSense doesn't allow any internal traffic at all. I look forward to any assistance and thank you ahead of time.

    Not sure if any of you have experience with this, but I am trying to include the anchor (?) in my domain name (using the appropriate punycode to allow it) but upon registering it I encounter the error that the symbol is not supported by the language I have chosen.   • How to correctly configure DNS for Icelandic domains and Plesk

    I have a domain registered with ISNIC (domain.is). They only let you set nameservers that pass their requirements. I've been told it's this requirement that I need to fix: Nameserver must be consistently registered in DNS, i.e. its own A resource record must be available and a corresponding PTR resource record as well. I allocated two new IP addresses from my server host and at that point set their PTR records to ns0.domain.is and ns1.domain.is. After that I created two A records for that domain in Plesk, again ns0. and ns2.domain.is with their respective IPs. Next, I went to the ISNIC page to register my nameservers, along with their IP addresses I'd allocated and this worked perfectly for both without error. So the final job was to set the nameservers for the domain via ISNIC's control panel, however when I try, I'm getting this error: Test results for "NS0.DOMAIN.IS": The nameserver ns1.vps123.vpsprovider.com is not consistently registered in DNS (ns1.vps123.vpsprovider.com => 1123.123.123.123 => vps123.vpsprovider.com) The nameserver ns0.vps123.vpsprovider.com is not consistently registered in DNS (ns0.vps123.vpsprovider.com => 1123.123.123.123 => vps123.vpsprovider.com) The nameserver ns0.DOMAIN.IS is missing from the NS record set for DOMAIN.IS Test results for "NS1.DOMAIN.IS": The nameserver ns1.DOMAIN.IS is missing from the NS record set for DOMAIN.IS The nameserver ns0.DOMAIN.IS is missing from the NS record set for DOMAIN.IS This is really at the limits of my DNS knowledge I'm afraid. It feels like I'm close but maybe missing a vital part, linking the nameservers in Plesk or something?

    Lets say I have a website named xyz.co, I also have other domain names with the same prefix like xyz.com, xyz.it, xyz.co.it Right now nginx works fine with server_name xyz.co in nginx.conf in port 80 I would want all the other domains to redirect to xyz.co also I would want www.* versions of the above to redirect to xyz.co. How can I get this? Is this nginx webserver level changes? or I need to make this changes in DNS?

I've heard that it's possible, but how would I do so, even if it includes creating something such as a proxy? For example, visiting: domain.tld would instead access IP:Port and the port could be anything I wanted it to be. If no direct solution exist, how would I go along using a "VirtualHost"?
