  • HP Storageworks 448 tape drive input/output error with Ubuntu

    - by Dan D
I'm trying to set a backup to tape of a machine using flexbackup. However any attempt to write to the tape drive (via either flexbackup or just tar) results in "/dev/st0: Input/output error" The machine seems to recognise the drive (HP Storageworks Ultrium 448) and that there's a tape in it and "mt status" seems to work... "mt -f /dev/st0 rewind" or "erase" throw no errors... root@stor001:/# mt status SCSI 2 tape drive: File number=0, block number=0, partition=0. Tape block size 0 bytes. Density code 0x42 (LTO-2). - by peresleguine
Question updated, please read UPD2. I'm trying to deploy app through passenger nginx module on DS710+ (ruby 1.9.2p0 installed). There is syntax error relative to has_and_belongs_to_many_association.rb file. Please look at the screenshot(deleted, question updated). I'm pretty sure the problem isn't in library file. App is running good via webrick. Could you please advise what to look for? • Why won't this script accept any arguments?

    - by Nate Wagar
I'm trying to write an SVN post-commit hook and, strangely, am getting hung up on what should be the easiest part. The Script: set REPO="$1" set REV="$2" set SVNBIN="/opt/CollabNet_Subversion/bin/" set SSHBIN="/usr/bin/ssh" set HOST="staging.domain.net" set timeout=30 set USERNAME="svn-usr" set E_NO_CONNECT=2 set E_WRONG_PASS=3 set E_UNKOWN=25 set CHANGED=`"$SVNBIN"svnlook changed --revision $REV $REPOS` echo "Here are changes: $CHANGED" >> /var/svn/repos/www/logs/testing echo "Command: $0; Repo: $REPO; Rev: $REV; Total: $#" >> /var/svn/repos/www/logs/testing set PROJECT "" Yet when I call it, it doesn't seem to be seeing the arguments I pass to it: /var/svn/repos/www/logs> sudo ../hooks/post-commit /var/svn/repos/www 33 svnlook: missing argument: --revision Type 'svnlook help' for usage. /var/svn/repos/www/logs> cat testing Here are changes: Command: ../hooks/post-commit; Repo: ; Rev: ; Total: 1 This is on a Solaris 10 SPARC box. I'm a bit of a script newbie, but shouldn't this be really easy??

  • Why does my DSDT table is different from what I found online?

    - by Hao Shen
I have found a field in DSDT table where I want to modify from here http://www.ztex.de/misc/c2ctl.e.html Generally, I want to modify the _PSS field about the processor so that I can have more frequency levels available in the CPUfreq driver interface. I try to use this command to dissemble the DSDT table from my Desktop(Linux2.6.29,Intel CORE 2): cat /proc/acpi/dsdt > dsdt.aml iasl -d dsdt.aml Then I have a file dsdt.dsl as following(very long, so I just show the beginning of the file): /* * Intel ACPI Component Architecture * AML Disassembler version 20090123 * * Disassembly of dsdt.aml, Mon May 6 20:41:40 2013 * * * Original Table Header: * Signature "DSDT" * Length 0x00003794 (14228) * Revision 0x01 **** ACPI 1.0, no 64-bit math support * Checksum 0x46 * OEM ID "DELL" * OEM Table ID "dt_ex" * OEM Revision 0x00001000 (4096) * Compiler ID "INTL" * Compiler Version 0x20050624 (537200164) */ DefinitionBlock ("dsdt.aml", "DSDT", 1, "DELL", "dt_ex", 0x00001000) { Method (DBIN, 0, NotSerialized) { Noop } Scope (\) { Device (_SB.VBTN) ................... But I can not find the _PSS field as shown in the website I have given above. I do not know why? I am sure the current cpufreq driver shows 4 frequency levels available. So at least there should be something in the table showing this..right? Has anybody here played with the DSDT table before? Thanks,

  • Multiboot USB (OSX only): How to customize partition name?

    - by wrk2bike
Trying to deal with all the Mac OSX recovery disks I've got by moving them to bootable USB images. I've got a big USB drive with multiple partitions for each recovery disk, and it's easy to use Disk Utility to "restore" the recovery DVD to a partition. When I boot my target Mac while holding down the Alt key, I can see all my bootable images and they work great. Problem is, they've all got the same name: "Mac OS X Install DVD." I manage Macs of various vintages. If my target Mac needs 10.6.3 for example, my only option seems to be to try each one until I get past the "Mac OSX can't be installed on this computer" message. I originally named my partitions with the OSX revision number, but that name is replaced by the disk image name during Disk Utility restore. Is there any way to customize the name during or after Disk Utility restore? I tried making a new DVD image on disk first and renaming it, but when I restore it to my recovery partition it has the original name. EDIT: After booting to the wrong partition, and getting the "..can't be installed" message, I can open the Startup Disk menu and see the other partitions - and as I select each one, the info at the bottom indicates which OS revision is on that partition. So I know the info is in there! Just want it at the boot screen if possible.

  • The Value of SOA Specialization - Fujitsu

    - by Jürgen Kress
Thanks for the nice ink The Value of Specialization In my last post  I talked about Fujitsu's achievement in obtaining SOA and other specializations, but I have heard murmurings from other partners about what just is the value? I think Oracle have to do more to advertise the benefits to customers, we need to see customers asking for specialization for it to really work, but Oracle have made great promises about only recommending those partners who are specialized. For us there was another benefit. Oracle was sponsoring the 3rd Annual SOA Symposium in Berlin and invited us as their first specialized partner to take part. There is a great blog about the symposium on the SOA community blog site. This is real commitment from Oracle and we have other marketing opportunities being worked on with Jürgen. This does generate leads so my message to other Oracle Partners is, you need to do this, it is worthwhile.   Fujitsu - First SOA Specialized Partner Globally Just before Oracle Open World I found out that Fujitsu had achieved the first SOA Specialization globally. I think most partners know what the requirements are for Specialization and that in itself is challenging but the bureaucracy around the actual submission is an exercise in tenacity. I won’t go into that now; I have had my dig at Oracle this month, but enough to say the process could be improved. As a platinum partner we needed 5 specializations and we decided to go for SOA first. The reasoning behind this is that our Oracle Practice is known for being applications centric. We have always had an excellent technical capability but no one ever talked about that, it was just part and parcel of an implementation. However today we have just as many bids that are technology lead as there is applications lead, so it seemed a good plan to work on the areas we were not known for. We appointed a capability lead to be responsible for putting the team through the training and testing and Rosemary (Kell) was excellent, she ensured that everyone was on track and that it wasn’t just getting put into the ‘to do list’. In Fujitsu everyone in the Oracle Practice has an objective to achieve the competency tests in their area, so achieving the 2 pre sales, 2 sales and 1 support was no problem at all. We actually had 22 with the support capability proficiency.  The implementation specialist exams are much harder, more like OCP in the database area. We had help from the Oracle SOA Community; Jürgen Kress who runs this in EMEA is really motivational. At the time we started SOA was a beta exam which means you do not get the results immediately but again we put forward more than we needed. Manjit Chopra, Sukhraj Sahota, Emely Patra, Ian Scorrer and Sunny Sidhu all took the exam and eventually got the results they wanted they had passed. Congratulations. Here is Jurgen expalining why specialization is important. After the tests came the submissions where you need to include deals and experience, this was my bit, and persuading Oracle we really deserved the specialization. Finally we got the news we had been awarded the specialization, and a few days later that we were first globally. I am very proud. However there is no rest for the wicked and we plodded on to make the 5 specializations needed for Platinum and now we are working on the new Diamond status and I think SOA will be one of our 5 ‘super specializations’. This is a global Fujitsu initiative and I work closely with my colleague in Germany Jessika Weiss. It was nice to be able to have a press release about this and a comment from Judson Althoff  head of Oracle Alliances. • SQLAuthority News – Live Virtual Classroom New Trend in Technology

    - by nupurdave
This blog post is by Nupur Dave, who is housewife and works from home. Changing times and a super busy lifestyle have rendered most of us powerless when it comes to doing what we love to do. I feel that a man never ceases to learn and his sole aim is to seek knowledge, and keep growing. However, our tight schedules and packed calendars mean that we really have to struggle to take some time out and follow the path towards learning. Like all working professionals with a family to take care of, I hardly found time to pursue my interests. However, it was getting increasingly important for me to upgrade my skills, not only for my personal quest for knowledge but to also substantiate my professional standing. When I came to know about Koenig Live Virtual Classroom from friends, it piqued my interest. I felt like it was the answer to all my concerns. Without wasting a single minute, I contacted Koenig for a demo class. Here are some of the highlights of Koenig LVC which instantly struck a chord in me: Online Training – Koenig offers 1-on-1 Online Training with the instructor at the other end. Doesn’t matter where I am sitting, in my office or at home, I can connect to my trainer from anywhere. Flexible Timings – The most comfortable part is you get to choose the time that suits you best. Economical -  No need to travel a thousand miles, the experts are right here on your computer screen. So no extra cost of travel, lodging and meals. 24X7 Lab Access: This is again a great feature that proved to be very beneficial in gaining a practical understanding of the subject. Powered by a data center, this facility offers students much to look forward to. 300+ Full Time Certified Experts: Be assured that you are learning from the best people in the industry. Customized Courses: Course material and training delivery is completely customized to suit your specific requirements. Official Courseware: The instructor teaches from official courseware of the vendor, depending on which course you have applied for – be it Microsoft, Cisco, Oracle or any other certification. Take Exam from Anywhere: Post completion of your IT training, you can take your certification exam from anywhere. Again, no need to travel a thousand miles to earn certified status. No Pre-Recorded Sessions: For those who still need clarification, it will be a live online classroom with trainers instructing you in real time. So you won’t get any surprises of getting pre-recorded sessions in place of your live instructor. Koenig’s Live Virtual Classroom methodology greatly exceeded my expectations. The instructor was highly skilled and very professional. I had concerns about the quality of AV on the computer screen, and whether I’ll be able to understand each topic in detail. However, the quality of video and sound, and the learning methodology used was impeccable. If you’re also facing time crunch and other commitment issues which are getting in the way of your professional development, LVC is the best solution to learn and grow. To know more about Student Experiences and Feedback of Koenig LVC, you can view their Testimonials. Reference: Nupur Dave (http://blog.sqlauthority.com)Filed under: SQL Authority

  • Representing Mauritius in the 2013 Bench Games

Only by chance I came across an interesting option for professionals and enthusiasts in IT, and quite honestly I can't even remember where I caught attention of Brainbench and their 2013 Bench Games event. But having access to 600+ free exams in a friendly international intellectual competition doesn't happen to be available every day. So, it was actually a no-brainer to sign up and browse through the various categories. Most interestingly, Brainbench is not only IT-related. They offer a vast variety of fields in their Test Center, like Languages and Communication, Office Skills, Management, Aptitude, etc., and it can be a little bit messy about how things are organised. Anyway, while browsing through their test offers I added a couple of exams to 'My Plan' which I would give a shot afterwards. Self-assessments Actually, I took the tests based on two major aspects: 'Fun Factor' and 'How good would I be in general'... Usually, you have to pay for any kind of exams and given this unique chance by Brainbench to simply train this kind of tests was already worth the time. Frankly speaking, the tests are very close to the ones you would be asked to do at Prometric or Pearson Vue, ie. Microsoft exams, etc. Go through a set of multiple choice questions in a given time frame. Most of the tests I did during the Bench Games were based on 40 questions, each with a maximum of 3 minutes to answer. Ergo, one test in maximum 2 hours - that sounds feasible, doesn't it? The Measure of Achievement While the 2013 Bench Games are considered a worldwide friendly competition of knowledge I was really eager to get other Mauritians attracted. Using various social media networks and community activities it all looked quite well at the beginning. Mauritius was listed on rank #19 of Most Certified Citizens and rank #10 of Most Master Level Certified Nation - not bad, not bad... Until... the next update of the Bench Games Leaderboard. The downwards trend seemed to be unstoppable and I couldn't understand why my results didn't show up on the Individual Leader Board. First of all, I passed exams that were not even listed and second, I had better results on some exams listed. After some further information from the organiser it turned out that my test transcript wasn't available to the public. Only then results are considered and counted in the competition. During that time, I actually managed to hold 3 test results on the Individuals... Other participants were merciless, eh, more successful than me, produced better test results than I did. But still I managed to stay on the final score board: An 'exotic' combination of exam, test result, country and person itself Representing Mauritius and the Visual FoxPro community in that fun event. And although I mainly develop in Visual FoxPro 9.0 SP2 and C# using .NET Framework from 2.0 to 4.5 since a couple of years I still managed to pass on Master Level. Hm, actually my Microsoft Certified Programmer (MCP) exams are dated back in June 2004 - more than 9 years ago... Look who got lucky... As described above I did a couple of exams as time allowed and without any preparations, but still I received the following mail notification: "Thank you for recently participating in our Bench Games event.  We wanted to inform you that you obtained a top score on our test(s) during this event, and as a result, will receive a free annual Brainbench subscription.  Your annual subscription will give you access to all our tests just like Bench Games, but for an entire year plus additional benefits!" -- Leader Board Notification from Brainbench Even fun activities get rewarded sometimes. Thanks to @Brainbench_com for the free annual subscription based on my passed 2013 Bench Games Master Level exam. It would be interesting to know about the total figures, especially to see how many citizens of Mauritius took part in this year's Bench Games. Anyway, I'm looking forward to be able to participate in other challenges like this in the future.

  • Drupal: Exposing a module's data to Views2 using its API

    - by Sepehr Lajevardi
I'm forking the filefield_stats module to provide it with the ability of exposing data into the Views module via the API. The filefield_stats module db table schema is as follow: <?php function filefield_stats_schema() { $schema['filefield_stats'] = array( 'fields' => array( 'fid' => array('type' => 'int', 'unsigned' => TRUE, 'not null' => TRUE, 'description' => 'Primary Key: the {files}.fid'), 'vid' => array('type' => 'int', 'unsigned' => TRUE, 'not null' => TRUE, 'description' => 'Primary Key: the {node}.vid'), 'uid' => array('type' => 'int', 'unsigned' => TRUE, 'not null' => TRUE, 'description' => 'The {users}.uid of the downloader'), 'timestamp' => array('type' => 'int', 'unsigned' => TRUE, 'not null' => TRUE, 'description' => 'The timestamp of the download'), 'hostname' => array('type' => 'varchar', 'length' => 128, 'not null' => TRUE, 'default' => '', 'description' => 'The hostname downloading the file (usually IP)'), 'referer' => array('type' => 'text', 'not null' => FALSE, 'description' => 'Referer for the download'), ), 'indexes' => array('fid_vid' => array('fid', 'vid')), ); return $schema; } ?> Well, so I implemented the hook_views_api() in filefield_stats.module & added a filefield_stats.views.inc file in the module's root directory, here it is: <?php // $Id$ /** * @file * Provide the ability of exposing data to Views2, for filefield_stats module. */ function filefield_stats_views_data() { $data = array(); $data['filefield_stats']['table']['group'] = t('FilefieldStats'); // Referencing the {node_revisions} table. $data['filefield_stats']['table']['join'] = array( 'node_revisions' => array( 'left_field' => 'vid', 'field' => 'vid', ), /*'files' => array( 'left_field' => 'fid', 'field' => 'fid', ), 'users' => array( 'left_field' => 'uid', 'field' => 'uid', ),*/ ); // Introducing filefield_stats table fields to Views2. // vid: The node's revision ID which wrapped the downloaded file $data['filefield_stats']['vid'] = array( 'title' => t('Node revision ID'), 'help' => t('The node\'s revision ID which wrapped the downloaded file'), 'relationship' => array( 'base' => 'node_revisions', 'field' => 'vid', 'handler' => 'views_handler_relationship', 'label' => t('Node Revision Reference.'), ), ); // uid: The ID of the user who downloaded the file. $data['filefield_stats']['uid'] = array( 'title' => t('User ID'), 'help' => t('The ID of the user who downloaded the file.'), 'relationship' => array( 'base' => 'users', 'field' => 'uid', 'handler' => 'views_handler_relationship', 'label' => t('User Reference.'), ), ); // fid: The ID of the downloaded file. $data['filefield_stats']['fid'] = array( 'title' => t('File ID'), 'help' => t('The ID of the downloaded file.'), 'relationship' => array( 'base' => 'files', 'field' => 'fid', 'handler' => 'views_handler_relationship', 'label' => t('File Reference.'), ), ); // hostname: The hostname which the file has been downloaded from. $data['filefield_stats']['hostname'] = array( 'title' => t('The Hostname'), 'help' => t('The hostname which the file has been downloaded from.'), 'field' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_field', 'click sortable' => TRUE, ), 'sort' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_sort', ), 'filter' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_filter_string', ), 'argument' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_argument_string', ), ); // referer: The referer address which the file download link has been triggered from. $data['filefield_stats']['referer'] = array( 'title' => t('The Referer'), 'help' => t('The referer which the file download link has been triggered from.'), 'field' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_field', 'click sortable' => TRUE, ), 'sort' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_sort', ), 'filter' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_filter_string', ), 'argument' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_argument_string', ), ); // timestamp: The time of the download. $data['filefield_stats']['timestamp'] = array( 'title' => t('Download Time'), 'help' => t('The time of the download.'), 'field' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_field_date', 'click sortable' => TRUE, ), 'sort' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_sort_date', ), 'filter' => array( 'handler' => 'views_handler_filter_date', ), ); return $data; } // filefield_stats_views_data() ?> According to the Views2 documentations this should work as a minimum, I think. But it doesn't! Also there is no error of any kind, when I come through the views UI, there's nothing about filefield_stats data. Any idea?

    hi, I'm trying to send an email using PHP mail() in a wordpress site. I created an empty page http://www.exam-vision.com/request-flip-up-instructions which template includes the php code shown below. When I post the data, isset($_REQUEST['email']) is false, while I can in firebug that the data have been posted correctly. What can be wrong? thanks <?php if (isset($_REQUEST['email'])) //if "email" is filled out, send email { //send email $email = $_REQUEST['email'] ; $subject = $_REQUEST['subject'] ; $message = $_REQUEST['message'] ; mail( "<someemail>", "Subject: $subject", $message, "From: $email" ); echo "Thank you for using our mail form"; } else //if "email" is not filled out, display the form { echo "<form method='post' action='http://www.exam-vision.com/request-flip-up-instructions'> Email: <input name='email' type='text' /><br /> Subject: <input name='subject' type='text' /><br /> Message:<br /> <textarea name='message' rows='15' cols='40'> </textarea><br /> <input type='submit' /> </form>"; } ?>

  • Reducing Time Complexity in Java

    - by Koeneuze
Right, this is from an older exam which i'm using to prepare my own exam in january. We are given the following method: public static void Oorspronkelijk() { String bs = "Dit is een boodschap aan de wereld"; int max = -1; char let = '*'; for (int i=0;i<bs.length();i++) { int tel = 1; for (int j=i+1;j<bs.length();j++) { if (bs.charAt(j) == bs.charAt(i)) tel++; } if (tel > max) { max = tel; let = bs.charAt(i); } } System.out.println(max + " keer " + let); } The questions are: what is the output? - Since the code is just an algorithm to determine the most occuring character, the output is "6 keer " (6 times space) What is the time complexity of this code? Fairly sure it's O(n²), unless someone thinks otherwise? Can you reduce the time complexity, and if so, how? Well, you can. I've received some help already and managed to get the following code: public static void Nieuw() { String bs = "Dit is een boodschap aan de wereld"; HashMap<Character, Integer> letters = new HashMap<Character, Integer>(); char max = bs.charAt(0); for (int i=0;i<bs.length();i++) { char let = bs.charAt(i); if(!letters.containsKey(let)) { letters.put(let,0); } int tel = letters.get(let)+1; letters.put(let, tel); if(letters.get(max)<tel) { max = let; } } System.out.println(letters.get(max) + " keer " + max); } However, I'm uncertain of the time complexity of this new code: Is it O(n) because you only use one for-loop, or does the fact we require the use of the HashMap's get methods make it O(n log n) ? And if someone knows an even better way of reducing the time complexity, please do tell! :)

  • What happens to class members when malloc is used instead of new?

    - by Felix
I'm studying for a final exam and I stumbled upon a curious question that was part of the exam our teacher gave last year to some poor souls. The question goes something like this: Is the following program correct, or not? If it is, write down what the program outputs. If it's not, write down why. The program: #include<iostream.h> class cls { int x; public: cls() { x=23; } int get_x(){ return x; } }; int main() { cls *p1, *p2; p1=new cls; p2=(cls*)malloc(sizeof(cls)); int x=p1->get_x()+p2->get_x(); cout<<x; return 0; } My first instinct was to answer with "the program is not correct, as new should be used instead of malloc". However, after compiling the program and seeing it output 23 I realize that that answer might not be correct. The problem is that I was expecting p2->get_x() to return some arbitrary number (whatever happened to be in that spot of the memory when malloc was called). However, it returned 0. I'm not sure whether this is a coincidence or if class members are initialized with 0 when it is malloc-ed. Is this behavior (p2->x being 0 after malloc) the default? Should I have expected this? What would your answer to my teacher's question be? (besides forgetting to #include <stdlib.h> for malloc :P)

  • calculating the index of an array C#

  • Skipping scheduled self-tests and predicting drive EOL

    - by Steve Madsen
For a few weeks now, smartd has been reporting that it is skipping some of its scheduled self-tests on the weekends: Apr 24 18:29:32 calvin smartd[4758]: Device: /dev/sda, skip scheduled Offline Immediate Test; 40% remaining of current Self-Test. Apr 24 18:29:33 calvin smartd[4758]: Device: /dev/sdb, skip scheduled Offline Immediate Test; 50% remaining of current Self-Test. The drives in this RAID-1 array are set to run an offline test four times a day, a short self-test at 2am every day, and a long self-test on Saturdays at 2am. For some reason, it looks like the long self-test is taking longer, causing the other scheduled tests to be skipped. First question: is this a sign of likely drive failure?
