    According to this thread Java and JVM license You can write a compiler that implements the Java Language Specification or write a JVM that implements the Java Virtual Machine specification, but when you officially want to call it "Java", you have to prove it is compatible by passing the tests of the TCK (technology compatibility kit) and pay for a license from Oracle. So, how can Google (or any other java implementation for that matter) claims that Dalvik is a Java virtual machine?

Trial version help you sell more Trials result in higher sales by the numbers: Users like trials  - paid apps with trial functionality are downloaded 70 times more than paid apps that don’t Nearly 1 out of 10 trial apps downloaded convert to a purchase and generate 10 times more revenue on average than paid apps that don’t include trial functionality. Trial downloads convert to paid downloads quickly. More than half of trial downloads that convert to a sale do so within the 1st 24 hours of trial download, and mostly within 2 hours of trial download.     I was wondering, if you want to make a NBA game on smartphones, without the license held by EA, the first solution seems to name your teams with a different name, such as "Chicragro Brulls" (this is just for the example), but would it be possible to just call your team with the name of the city, such as "Chicago vs. Dallas" ? I know the first solution was chosen by Pro Evolution Soccer, would you know any other game that don't use a license?

    I have some files in my project that started from a sample in the all-in-one code sample browser: http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/4934b087-e6cc-44dd-b992-a71f00a2a6df Some files contain boilerplate code that I modify heavily. They contain MS comments at the top that mention the license, copyright microsoft etc. Am I required to leave the entire comment block at the top of the source files that I modify or is it okay to just include the MS-PL license in a separate file for the whole project?

    I have a remote server which has an expired license. I can't currently add the new license because of a licensing server error so I need to reboot the machine. My question is will I be able to remote desktop onto the machine and apply the new license or do I have to be physically at the server. I know an activation wizard usually appears and doesn't let you go any further but does this same wizard appear over remote desktop? I don't really want to reboot the machine only for it to not come up again.

    A company I sometimes consult for is relatively small (40 employees), and they have a royal mess of Office licenses. OEM, Retail, Upgrades, O2K/XP/2K3/2K7, etc. They basically buy whatever retail license they can find cheapest online, and have someone track it all in a spreadsheet for compliance purposes. They also use a Microsoft Action pack license for getting another 10 copies of Office/Vista for free. While it all seems to follow Microsoft's licensing rules, it also seems horribly inefficient. I've talked to them about Microsoft's Open license, but they don't see any advantage to it. What do other relatively small businesses do? Are Open licenses popular, or do most of them just buy retail like my client?

    I'm automating my Mac installation using puppet. As a part of it I need to install several programs that come in a .dmg format. I use the following to mount them: sudo /usr/bin/hdiutil mount -plist -nobrowse -readonly -quiet -mountrandom /tmp Program.dmg The problem is that some .dmg files come with a license attached, and so script is stuck accepting the license. (There is no stdin/out when running with puppet, so I can't manually approve it to continue.) Is there a way to pre-approve or force-approve the license?

    I'm recently started using monit to monitor the status of sshd on my CentOS 5.4 server. This works fine, but every so often monit reports that sshd is no longer running. This isn't true - I am still able to login to the server via ssh, however I note the following: There is no longer any PID file at /var/run/sshd.pid - after a reboot this file exists. Once it is gone, restarting sshd via service sshd restart does not create the PID file. sudo service sshd status reports openssh-daemon is stopped - again, restarting sshd does not change this, but a reboot does. sudo service sshd stop reports failed, presumably because of the missing PID file. Any idea what is going on? Update sudo netstat -lptun gives the following output relating to port 22 tcp 0 0 :::22 :::* LISTEN 20735/sshd Killing the process with this PID as suggested by @Henry and then starting sshd via service results in service sshd status recognising the process by PID again. Would still like to understand this better. RPM verify suggested by a couple of answerers shows this: sudo rpm -vV openssh openssh-server openssh-clients | grep 'S\.5' S.5....T c /etc/pam.d/sshd S.5....T c /etc/ssh/sshd_config /etc/pam.d/sshd has the following contents: #%PAM-1.0 auth include system-auth account required pam_nologin.so account include system-auth password include system-auth session optional pam_keyinit.so force revoke session include system-auth #session required pam_loginuid.so Should that last line be commented out?     Every morning when I check server status,I will find MySQL's password is changed: mysql -uuser -ppassword will report ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'user'@'localhost' (using password: YES) And then I restart server,and when it's up,MySQL will be back to normal. It has now become a routinely job. What can be the cause for this? How can I know what's exactly happening to MySQL?
