  • Learning to write organized and modular programs

    I'm a computer science student, and I'm just starting to write relatively larger programs for my coursework (between 750 - 1500 lines). Up until now, it's been possible to get by with any reasonable level of modularization and object oriented design. However, now that I'm writing more complex code for my assignments I'd like to learn to write better code. Can anyone point me in the direction of some resources for learning about what sort of things to look for when designing your program's architecture so that you can make it as modularized as possible?

Then i tried writing a simple graphic program in turbo c in laptop, but the problem i am getting is in 'initgraph' statement it is unable to detect the driver.     Hi all I'm attempting to write a PowerShell script that, among other things, runs two external programs, harvesting the output of one and providing it to the other. The problem is that the second program is interactive and asks for: - a password - an option (1, 2, or 3) - an option (Y or N) - output of external program 1 Note also that this is on XP with PowerShell v1 and .net v2.0 (no I can't upgrade) Any ideas how I would do this?     I have a device which would be interface with my processor through pcie. I have written driver for it using the existing pci file operations. Now my problem is how do I access it from user space programs? PCI File operations do not have IOCTL support and hence I cant make an ioctl call unlike other char devices. I cannot use pci_config_read_byte etc. functions as they are meant for kernel space(included in linux/pci.h).

I could follow all the steps, but the supposedly successfully published software does not appear on client/user machine's Add/Remove Programs. Could some help figure why this may not be working.     I have a bluetooth USB, every time I enter the bluetooth, bluetooth is active only a few seconds, after which it can not be used again In 'devices and printer' there is still a bluetooth but if you want to save the settings it can not, there are error message or bluetooth is revoked. I am using windows 7, whereas if use Windows XP smoothly no problems. This not only happens on my computer alone, my friend who has a build-in bluetooth also experienced the same thing with the same OS. Is there a patch / fix / update for its Windows? I've been brain-tweaking drivers for all but still can not.

    Edited for clarification based on comments: At work we have an old developed program where I need to navigate on a very long dropdown list only with numbered codes. To select the correct code, I manually look at an excel list that shows the code and the name each codes corresponds with. To make matters worse, it is not possible to type in the dropdown box (only first character is recognized when typing) So my question is: Are there any program which can show the text from a predefined list, when i mouseover the various possibilities in the dropdown list? The purpose would be to be able to identify the name which corresponds to each code, without having to look at the excel list. Thanks in advance!

    So I have some table with Name, Address, and Zip with no record data attached; and I have a table which has all the same, but has more information and I need a way to merge the tables when they don't match 100%. How do I match them up if they aren't Identical? I'm a newb @ SQL, but I know they won't match up for the most part and I can't be the only one with this issue. However software which will do this has proven to be difficult. Writing software to do this would even be worse than having to do it in the first place. I know I can do this in excel; kinda, but with the amount of records I have its proving to be difficult over a million.

    Hello, I just installed Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS, running kernel 2.6.32-24-server, on a brand new Dell T110 server, supposedly fully compatible with Ubuntu Server. I have two NICs: one ONBOARD, the other additional on PCI. both of them are Broadcom netXtreme 5572. on the first boot of the system, I could see both cards as eth0 and eth1 (with ifconfig) I configured eth0 as static IP (as planned), and did not configure eth1. after rebooting, one of the two NICs "disappeared": it does not appear in ifconfig at all. the one that disappeared is the ONBOARD one.
