  • Visual Studio Windows Forms Designer keyboard shortcuts

    - by Dan Tao
Extremely basic question. Are there common actions I can perform using keyboard shortcuts in the Windows Forms designer in Visual Studio (2008)? Alternately, could I add my own keyboard shortcuts (either through settings or macros)? It'd really be nice if I could, for example, set a control to dock/undock in its parent container by typing Alt+D. Or if I could set a control's name just by typing Alt+N and typing the name. Things like that. It's just kind of tedious to click on the item, scroll in the Properties grid to the property I want to change, type the new value, scroll to the next property I want to change, etc. Which is why I have a feeling this functionality is in there already, or is easily configurable, and I just don't know about it.

  • Keyboard layout for international programmers?

    - by splattne
I think everybody who had to program using a standard German (or any other international) keyboard layout on Windows (or Mac) will complain about the conundrum of either having all special characters ( [ ] | { } / etc. ) needed for most programming languages "at the fingertip" and "losing" the language specific characters (umlauts ä ö ü etc.) on the keyboard or viceversa: having simple access to umlauts, but not to brackets etc. If you are programming in C / C++ / C# / Java / Javascript for example, it is very exhausting if you have to press Alt-Gr + 7 for every opening curly bracket. It is an ergonomic nightmare and reduces your typing efficiency. What is the best way to cope with this problem? Is there a satisfying solution? Maybe there are special layouts or keyboards which address this issue?

  • On-screen keyboard not appearing when editing text fields in a UIWebView

    - by andrewebling
I have a web view which displays a simple login form, containing username and password fields. However when the user clicks in one of the text fields, although the cursor appears in the text field, the on-screen keyboard does not appear. I've tried registering for UIKeyboardWillShowNotifications notifications and I see this notification arrive, however the keyboard doesn't actually appear on the screen. I've also tried sending the web view to the back of the view hierarchy and changing it's frame so it doesn't occupy the whole screen. However neither of these measures have solved the problem. What would people recommend trying next?

  • Disable keyboard on EditText

    - by Ferox
I'm doing a calculator. So I made my own Buttons with numbers and functions. The expression that has to be calculated, is in an EditText, because I want users can add numbers or functions also in the middle of the expression, so with the EditText I have the cursor. But I want to disable the Keyboard when users click on the EditText. I found this example that it's ok for Android 2.3, but with ICS disable the Keyboard and also the cursor. public class NoImeEditText extends EditText { public NoImeEditText(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); } @Override public boolean onCheckIsTextEditor() { return false; } } And then I use this NoImeEditText in my XML file <com.my.package.NoImeEditText android:id="@+id/etMy" .... /> How I can make compatible this EditText with ICS??? Thanks.

  • Send Keyboard Events from one Form to another Form

    - by thalm
Hello, my question is quite simple: Our C# application has one MainForm with a menu and several keyboard shortcuts associated with the menu entries. Now we need to trigger the menu entries from some child forms too. But since the MainForm is inactive when one of the child forms is active, the shortcuts do not work. Is there a simple way to propagate all keyboard events from the child form to the 'Owner' form? Or just to another form in general? Ah, and we cannot use some low level windows stuff, because we need to run the application on Mono/Linux too.

  • Phonegap - iOS keyboard is not hiding on outside tap of input field

    - by Prasoon
On input text focus, keyboard appears as expected. But when I click outside of the input text, keyboard does not hide. I am using java script and jQuery. With jQueryMobile JS and CSS - page behaves correctly. But for this project we are not using jQueryMobile. This problem is only with iOS simulator/device. With Android, it's working perfectly fine. I even tried using document.activeElement.blur(); on outer element click/tap. But then I am unable to focus to input text, because that input text is inside that outer element.

  • Tool to view/plan keyboard shortcuts?

    - by Willfulwizard
I'm curious if there are any tools available* that will help me map out keyboard shortcuts for the application I'm working on? Being able to see what combinations are in use, the relationships between normal, ctrl, shift, and alt combinations, and especially what combinations are NOT in use, would be wonderfully helpful. Please forgive me if I am missing an obvious solution, but I've had no luck searching for such a tool myself, due to every application in existence having its own keyboard shortcuts, and all of those being listed on the web. Thanks! *Naturally, I'd prefer free/cheap, but it can't hurt to hear about any expensive options.

  • Visual Studio 2010 haunted keyboard

    - by Ryan
It seems the haunted keyboard is back in VS2010 ... after working on a web application for a short while I find that some keys just don't work, or are behaving like certain keys are stuck. This is only in VS, and I am definitely not triggering any keyboard changes in VS or Windows (I have disabled that in Windows) and I have reset my environment settings several times. Aargh! This is so frustrating ... anyone else getting this problem? Is there are solution?

  • The 20 Most Important Keyboard Shortcuts For Windows PCs

    - by Chris Hoffman
Keyboard shortcuts are practically essential for using any type of PC. They’ll speed up almost everything you do. But long lists of keyboard shortcuts can quickly become overwhelming if you’re just getting started. This list will cover the most useful keyboard shortcuts that every Windows user should know. If you haven’t used keyboard shortcuts much, these will show you just how useful keyboard shortcuts can be. Windows Key + Search The Windows key is particularly important on Windows 8 — especially before Windows 8.1 — because it allows you to quickly return to the Start screen. On Windows 7, it opens the Start menu. Either way, you can start typing immediately after you press the Windows key to search for programs, settings, and files. For example, if you want to launch Firefox, you can press the Windows key, start typing the word Firefox, and press Enter when the Firefox shortcut appears. It’s a quick way to launch programs, open files, and locate Control Panel options without even touching your mouse and without digging through a cluttered Start menu. You can also use the arrow keys to select the shortcut you want to launch before pressing Enter. Copy, Cut, Paste Copy, Cut, and Paste are extremely important keyboard shortcuts for text-editing. If you do any typing on your computer, you probably use them. These options can be accessed using the mouse, either by right-clicking on selected text or opening the application’s Edit menu, but this is the slowest way to do it. After selecting some text, press Ctrl+C to copy it or Ctrl+X to cut it. Position the cursor where you want the text and use Ctrl+V to paste it. These shortcuts can save you a huge amount of time over using the mouse. Search the Current Page or File To quickly perform a search in the current application — whether you’re in a web browser, PDF viewer, document editor, or almost any other type of application — press Ctrl+F. The application’s search (or “Find”) feature will pop up, and you can instantly start typing a phrase you want to search for. You can generally press Enter to  go to the next appearance of the word or phrase in the document, quickly searching through it for what you’re interested in. Switch Between Applications and Tabs Rather than clicking buttons on your taskbar, Alt+Tab is a very quick way to switch between running applications. Windows orders the list of open windows by the order you accessed them, so if you’re only using two different applications, you can just press Alt+Tab to quickly switch between them. If switching between more than two windows, you’ll have to hold the Alt key and press Tab repeatedly to toggle through the list of open windows. If you miss the window you want, you can always press Alt+Shift+Tab to move through the list in reverse. To move between tabs in an application — such as the browser tabs in your web browser — press Ctrl+Tab. Ctrl+Shift+Tab will move through tabs in reverse. Quickly Print If you’re the kind of person who still prints things, you can quickly open the print window by pressing Ctrl+P. This can be faster than hunting down the Print option in every program you want to print something from. Basic Browser Shortcuts Web browser shortcuts can save you tons of time, too. Ctrl+T is a very useful one, as it will open a new tab with the address bar focused, so you can quickly press Ctrl +T, type a search phrase or web address, and press Enter to go there. To go back or forward while browsing, hold the Ctrl key and press the left or right arrow keys. If you’d just like to focus your web browser’s address bar so you can type a new web address or search without opening a new tab, press Ctrl + L. You can then start typing something and press Enter. Close Tabs and Windows To quickly close the current application, press Alt+F4. This works on the desktop and even in new Windows 8-style applications. To quickly close the current browser tab or document, press Ctrl+W. This will often close the current window if there are no other tabs open. Lock Your Computer When you’re done using your computer and want to step away, you may want to lock it. People won’t be able to log in and access your desktop unless they know your password. You can do this from the Start menu or Start screen, but the fastest way to lock your screen is by quickly pressing Windows Key + L before you get up. Access the Task Manager Ctrl+Alt+Delete will take you to a screen that allows you to quickly launch the Task Manager or perform other operations, such as signing out. This is particularly useful because if can be used to recover from situations where your computer doesn’t appear responsive or isn’t accepting input. For example, if a full-screen game becomes unresponsive, Ctrl+Alt+Delete will often allow you to escape from it and end it via the Task Manager. Windows 8 Shortcuts On Windows 8 PCs, there are other very important keyboard shortcuts. Windows Key + C will open your Charms bar, while Windows Key + Tab will open the new App Switcher. These keyboard shortcuts will allow you to avoid the hot corners, which can be tedious to use with a mouse. On the desktop side, Windows Key + D will take you back to the desktop from anywhere. Windows Key + X will open a special “power user menu” that gives you quick access to options that are hidden in the new Windows 8 interface, including Shut Down, Restart, and Control Panel. If you’re interested in learning more keyboard shortcuts, be sure to check our longer lists of 47 keyboard shortcuts that work in all web browsers and 42+ keyboard shortcuts to speed up text-editing. • How To Map Fn+Key (Multiple Keys) To Other Key in Windows?

    - by Mohamed Meligy
I've got a ThinkPad W530 laptop, which replaces the Application Key (also known as Menu Key or Mouse Right Click key, usually between Right Alt and Right Ctrl) with the Print Screen key. So, I need to replace Prt/Scr with Application key. That's easy, all key mapping software like SharpKeys or whatever can do that. There are even a few threads in SuperUser about dozen of those. But then, the different part to this question from the others (which is why it's not a duplicate, I think) is that I also don't want to completely lose the Prt/Scr key. I'm thinking about replacing it with either: Fn + Prt/Scr Fn + F2 These seemed to have no special meaning, so, I'm not overriding anything, just adding functionality to either of them (one of them, not both), to be the new Prt/Scr key. I couldn't find any key mapping software that can detect or let me select more than one key to map, even when the other key is something like Fn key (although they all can map Fn key itself, without combination). I know it may make sense why this restriction exists, but it'll be really useful if I can override it though. Do you know any program that can do that? Thanks a lot.

  • Alternative to arrow keys in Google Chrome location bar

    - by saltycrane
I like Google Chrome because it is fast but I don't like using the arrow keys in the location bar to complete URLs. Is there any extension, or setting I'm missing, that allows me to use the Tab key (or other customizable key) for completion like in Firefox? I am an Emacs user and am aware of Conkeror. I just wanted to give Google Chrome a fair chance. Edit: I'm using version 4.0.266.0 on Linux.

  • Hidden characters inserted after pipe (|) followed by a space

    - by nifty
Very often, on my Mac, when I use the pipe (|) character followed by a space character, an invincible character will be inserted in between. This is especially annoying when using the terminal, as it makes commands invalid. If I type the following in iterm2, I often get the following: ls | cat zsh: command not found:  cat If I hit the up-arrow-key to get my previous command, and then remove and reinsert the space between | and cat, the command will work. When I copy paste the working and non working commands into a file, like this: non-working: ls | cat working: ls | cat and open it in Hex Fiend it shows the following: non-working: ls |¬†cat working: ls | cat I've also experienced the same kind of issue in SublimeText2 using the square brackets ([]) followed by a space. So I don't believe its an issue with iTerm2.

  • winkey + arrow key doesn't move windows to 2nd monitor on linux

    - by Berry Tsakala
in Windows, win+ <-- and win+ --> snap any window to the left/right side of a monitor, and if pressed again, snap the window to the other monitor, in multi-monitor environment. when a window is maximized, it will "restore" the window first, and at the next win+ <-- key the window will snap. this is very easy to use and remember. But on Linux a maximized window is not affected by win+ <-- , and the user must explicitly un-maximize it (win+down. the window is not moved to another monitor a side-snapped window cannot be resized - it behaves like a maximized window. is there another program that behaves like Windows, or I should write one by myself? (i'm using ubuntu/mint)

  • How to select File menu in Mac, just like Alt + F in Windows?

    - by pal4life
I have a Macbook Air with Mac OSX 10.8.2 . I have been wondering how do I select the File Menu which I am so used to doing in Windows using Alt + F, so that I do not have to click on the File menu each time I need to do something. I googled and checked out a bunch of articles as well. This wikipedia article suggests http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_of_keyboard_shortcuts CTRL +F2 then F. I tried this in Sublime Text and did not work for me. Any clues? Thanks.

  • Remap Copy and Paste shortcuts on a Mac

    - by Linzdp
I use Windows at work and a Mac at home. One of the biggest issues is the difference between the copy paste shortcuts on Windows vs the Mac i.e. Ctrl + C & Ctrl + V on Windows and on the Mac its Command + C and Command + V. Invariably its hard because of learnt motor skills where my hand always shapes itself to the Windows Ctrl + C configuration(I have been using Windows longer) I would like to remap the Copy and Paste to the Fn + C and Fn + V on the Mac. Why? Because the Fn key is actually the key that corresponds to where the Ctrl key is on Windows keyboards and since its the last edge key its easy to find. I have tried Double Command but it doesn't seem to have an option of turning Fn to the Command key.

  • UITextView doesn't not resize when keyboard appear if loaded from a tab bar cotroller

    - by elio.d
    I have a simple view controller (SecondViewController) used to manage a UITextview (I'm building a simple editor) this is the code of the SecondViewController.h @interface SecondViewController : UIViewController { IBOutlet UITextView *textView; } @property (nonatomic,retain) IBOutlet UITextView *textView; @end and this is the SecondViewController.m // // EditorViewController.m // Editor // // Created by elio d'antoni on 13/01/11. // Copyright 2011 none. All rights reserved. // @implementation SecondViewController @synthesize textView; /* // Implement loadView to create a view hierarchy programmatically, without using a nib. - (void)loadView { } */ // Implement viewDidLoad to do additional setup after loading the view, typically from a nib. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor colorWithPatternImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"uiViewBg.png"]]; textView.layer.borderWidth=1; textView.layer.cornerRadius=5; textView.layer.borderColor=[[UIColor darkGrayColor] CGColor]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(keyboardWillAppear:) name:UIKeyboardWillShowNotification object:nil]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(keyboardWillDisappear:) name:UIKeyboardWillHideNotification object:nil]; } -(void) matchAnimationTo:(NSDictionary *) userInfo { NSLog(@"match animation method"); [UIView setAnimationDuration:[[userInfo objectForKey:UIKeyboardAnimationDurationUserInfoKey] doubleValue]]; [UIView setAnimationCurve:[[userInfo objectForKey:UIKeyboardAnimationCurveUserInfoKey] intValue]]; } -(CGFloat) keyboardEndingFrameHeight:(NSDictionary *) userInfo { NSLog(@"keyboardEndingFrameHeight method"); CGRect keyboardEndingUncorrectedFrame = [[ userInfo objectForKey:UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey ] CGRectValue]; CGRect keyboardEndingFrame = [self.view convertRect:keyboardEndingUncorrectedFrame fromView:nil]; return keyboardEndingFrame.size.height; } -(CGRect) adjustFrameHeightBy:(CGFloat) change multipliedBy:(NSInteger) direction { NSLog(@"adjust method"); return CGRectMake(20, 57, self.textView.frame.size.width, self.textView.frame.size.height + change * direction); } -(void)keyboardWillAppear:(NSNotification *)notification { NSLog(@"keyboard appear"); [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [self matchAnimationTo:[notification userInfo]]; self.textView.frame = [self adjustFrameHeightBy:[self keyboardEndingFrameHeight: [notification userInfo]] multipliedBy:-1]; [UIView commitAnimations]; } -(void)keyboardWillDisappear:(NSNotification *) notification { NSLog(@"keyboard disappear"); [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:NULL]; [self matchAnimationTo:[notification userInfo]]; self.textView.frame = [self adjustFrameHeightBy:[self keyboardEndingFrameHeight: [notification userInfo]] multipliedBy:1]; [UIView commitAnimations]; } // Override to allow orientations other than the default portrait orientation. - (BOOL)shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation:(UIInterfaceOrientation)interfaceOrientation { return YES; } (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } (void)dealloc { [super dealloc]; } @end the problem is that if load the view controller from a tab bar controller the textView doesn't resize when the keyboard appear, but the SAME code works if loaded as a single view based app. I hope I was clear enough. I used the tabBar template provided by xcode no modifications.

  • iphone keyboard won't appear

    - by d_CFO
I can click on the field, and it momentarily turns blue, but those events plus makeFirstResponder together do not cause the keyboard to show on a UITextField. Plain vanilla code follows; I include it so others can discern what is NOT there and therefore what, presumably, with solve the problem. I put in leading spaces to format this question more like code, but the parser seems to have stripped them, thus leaving left-justified code. Sorry! UITextFieldDelete, check: @interface RevenueViewController : UIViewController <UITableViewDelegate, UITableViewDataSource, UITextFieldDelegate> { UILabel *sgmntdControlLabel; UISegmentedControl *sgmntdControl; UITableView *theTableView; } @property(nonatomic,retain) UISegmentedControl *sgmntdControl; @property(nonatomic,retain) UILabel *sgmntdControlLabel; Delegate and source, check. -(void)loadView; // code CGRect frameTable = CGRectMake(10,0,300,260); theTableView = [[UITableView alloc] initWithFrame:frameTable style:UITableViewStyleGrouped]; [theTableView setDelegate:self]; [theTableView setDataSource:self]; // code [self.view addSubview:theTableView]; [super viewDidLoad]; } Insert UITextField to cell, check. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSInteger sectionNmbr = [indexPath section]; NSInteger rowNmbr = [indexPath row]; NSLog(@"cellForRowAtIndexPath=%d, %d",sectionNmbr, rowNmbr); static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } // Configure the cell. switch (sectionNmbr) { case 0: if (rowNmbr == 0) { cell.tag = 1; cell.textLabel.text = @"Label for sctn 0, row 0"; UITextField *tf = [[UITextField alloc] init]; tf.keyboardType = UIKeyboardTypeNumberPad; tf.returnKeyType = UIReturnKeyDone; tf.delegate = self; [cell.contentView addSubview:tf]; } if (rowNmbr == 1) { cell.tag = 2; cell.textLabel.text = @"Label for sctn 0, row 1"; cell.accessoryType = UITableViewCellAccessoryDetailDisclosureButton; } break; } } Successfully end up where we want to be (?), no check, (and no keyboard!): - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { NSLog(@"didSelectRowAtIndexPath"); switch (indexPath.section) { case 0: NSLog(@" section=0, rowNmbr=%d",indexPath.row); switch (indexPath.row) { case 0: UITableViewCell *cellSelected = [tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath: indexPath]; UITextField *textField = [[cellSelected.contentView subviews] objectAtIndex: 0]; [ textField setEnabled: YES ]; [textField becomeFirstResponder]; // here is where keyboard will appear? [tableView deselectRowAtIndexPath: indexPath animated: NO]; break; case 1: // code break; default: break; } break; case 1: // code break; default: // handle otherwise un-handled exception break; } } Thank you for your insights!

  • html textfield in WebView in an Android application is hidden by the soft keyboard

    - by user280503
Hello, I have an Android application that is a TabHost with a WebView. I use it to load a specific html file that has a text field in its bottom part. When I touch the html textfield, the soft keyboard pops up, and hides the textfield, so that I cannot see what I have typed. Here is the layout: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TabHost xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@android:id/tabhost" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/main" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <TabWidget android:focusableInTouchMode="false" android:id="@android:id/tabs" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="63dp" /> <FrameLayout android:id="@android:id/tabcontent" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/layout" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <WebView android:id="@+id/webview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" /> </LinearLayout> </FrameLayout> </LinearLayout> </TabHost> I have tried to configure the AndroidManifest.xml file with android:windowSoftInputMode="adjustResize" with no success. I have also tried replacing the FrameLayout in my layout with ScollView, but that caused my webview to increase in size indefinitely when the application is running.. this may be due to some javascript I have running on the page. I have noticed that the android's web browser has a nifty behaviour - in a web page, after the soft keyboard pops up, the web page scrolls smoothly so that the focusable textfield is visible to the user. How can I have this kind of behavior in my applicaiton?

  • How to disable selective keys on the keyboard?

    - by Vilx-
I'd like to write an application which disables certain keys on the keyboard while it's working. More specifically I'm interested in keys that might make the application loose focus (like ALT+TAB, WinKey, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, etc.) The need for this is has to do with babies/animals bashing wildly at the keyboard. :) My first idea was to use SetWindowsHookEx, however I ran into a problem. Since I need a global hook, the procedure would have to reside in a .DLL which would get injected in all active applications. But a .DLL can be either 64-bit or 32-bit, not both. And on a 64-bit system there are both types of applications. I guess then that I must write two copies of the hook .DLL - one for 32-bit and the other for 64-bit. And then I'd also have to launch two copies of the application as well, because the application first has to load the DLL itself before it can pass it on to SetWindowsHookEx(). Sounds pretty clumsy and awkward. Is there perhaps a better way? Or maybe I've misunderstood something?
