  • How to best config my PC. 2 small SDDs and a 1TB conventional drive

    I just got a new PC. It has 3 drives C Drive: 80GB SDD Drive P Drive: 120GB SDD (for core programs) D Drive: 1TB SDD (for data and other) I have an MSDN subscription and I am the type of person that loves to install tons of software to check it out. I am very worried that installation programs are forcing me to place a large amount of files on the small C drive. I fear that I will quickly run out of space on my C drive while having ample space on my TB drive. What would you do in my shoes? I didn't select this PC or set the config up. I am wishing that the 120 SSD was my C, to give me a little more room to grow. I guess there are no magic solutions here but I am just looking for your general thoughts

    our servers need to update the libxml2 version from 2.2.26 to 2.9 (latest version). It is no problem that we have been installed the libxml2-2.9 version on our servers. but the problem is how can we config the libs path of libxml2 path in php? Since it still show the old version on phpinfo(). What we have do is 1. Install libxml2 2.7.X on CentOS 5.X Using yum to install local files, and typed yum info libxml2, it shows 2.9 was installed. At the moment it boots up but hangs at the prompt.     Programtically get the Wireless lan config of a machine and use netsh to setup new profile I am having trouble getting the netsh command to set the ssid of a new card. I installed the drivers and plugged it in. I see in ipconfig it says the "media is disconnected" (fair enough). I then send the following command netsh wlan connect name=profile1 ssid=myNetwork interface="Wireless Network Connection 2" problem is I get an error "There is no profile "profile1" assigned to the specified interface. What is a profile for a wireless card? What should I set it to? How Can I get my SSID set and connected for the card.

My idea is to have a branch for each server. /etc is not the only one directory to be tracked (I won't git init in '/etc' ) As far as I could see, it is possible to init a git for a distant directory. I tried this: # mkdir -p /git/.git # cd /git # git --work-tree=/ --git-dir=/git/.git init Initialized empty Git repository in /git/.git/ 1) Creating a new branch before everything is not possible # git branch server1 fatal: Not a valid object name: 'HEAD'. 2) adding a file in master/HEAD is not possible # touch README.md # git add README.md fatal: Unable to create '//.git/index.lock': No such file or directory how should I properly setup git to track my system-config ?   • How to specify multiple HostName/Port combinations in .ssh/config

    I have multiple notebooks and workstations which pull and push from multiple Mercurial repositories on a central server. I usually use .ssh/config to set an alias: Host repo-server HostName server.somedomain User user143 IdentityOnly yes IdentityFile ~/hgkey Port 156 ... and some more options, you get the idea. I can then simply do a hg push ssh://repo-server//hgroot/someproject on every local repository, and I can change the server address and port in one place. For workstations, this works fine, but the notebooks can access the server either from inside the network or from outside, using a different address and a different port. Is there any way I can specify multiple HostName/Port combinations so that SSH automatically tries them in order? This way, the users could push and pull without having to care about the correct address. (of course, using a VPN would be the most correct solution)

    I have this in my ~/.ssh/config directory: Host 12.34.56.78 IdentityFile ~/.ssh/my_identity_file When I ssh to 12.34.56.78, everything works fine. I'm asked for the passphrase for "my_identity_file" and I can connect to the server. However, sometimes I'd also like to ssh to another server. But whatever the server, if I do: ssh [email protected] I'm also asked for the passphrase for "my_identity_file" (even though the server has a different ip address). This is very annoying because I don't have the public key for this file set up on all my servers. I'd like to connect to this other server (an old shared hosting account) with a password, and now I cant. How do I manage to use the key authentication only with one server, and keep using password by default for servers that aren't listed in my ~/.ssh/config ? Thanks for your help.

    Within a ~/.ssh/config or ssh_config file, %h will give you the HostName value, but how do you get the Host ("alias") value? Why would I want to do that? Well, here's an example Host some_host_alias HostName 1.2.3.4 User my_user_name PasswordAuthentication no IdentityFile ~/.ssh/some_host_alias.rsa.id LocalCommand some_script.sh %h # <---- this is the critical line If I pass %h to the script, then it uses 1.2.3.4, which fails to give it all the options it needs to connect to that machine. I need to pass some_host_alias, but I can't find the % variable for that. (And: yes! I'm aware of the risk of recursion. That's solved inside the script.) UPDATE: Kenster pointed out that I could just hard-code the Host value as an argument to the script. Of course this will work in the example I gave, but it won't work if I'm using pattern matching for the Host.

    I have a KVM server that I expanded the LV of then rebooted. However now when booting I get the error: error: Failed to create domain from /home/kvm/kvmx/kvmx.xml error: (domain_definition):1: Document is empty (null) ^ It appears the config file still exits however it is now empty. I attempted to replace the contents of the file with the correct previous information however it continues to wipe it on attempt to boot and fails again with the same error. How would I got about solving this so the file doesn't get wiped on every reboot? OS: Centos 6 64bit I would appreciate any help you may have.

    Hi I had a server pc with the following error. \windows\system32\config\system is corrupt or missing As to fix it i replaced the files instructed here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545. Problem solved and I was able to boot up to windows desktop. But now none of the usb ports recognize any of the usb devices such as mouse, keyboard, thumbdrive nada... The usb mouse powers up (the light at the bottom lids up) but no functionality. Has anyone experienced this kind of behaviour any tip is really appreceiated. PS:There is no PS2 ports for both mouse and keyboard. Edit: Same behaviour persists in Safe mode also.

    When you add a service reference it creates the class "MyServiceClient" with a default constructor. If I use new MyServiceClient() I get an error: Could not find default endpoint... If I use new MyServiceClient("endpointName") it works. I would like to specify a default endpoint in app/web.config which will get used when I use the default constructor. I know I can place that default name in *.settings which ends up in app.config, but just wondering if there is any built-in way to do it.

    I'm trying to set up sftp-server but the client is getting an error, Connection closed by server with exitcode 1 /var/log/auth.log (below) doesn't help much, how can I find out what the error is? I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS sshd[27236]: Accepted password for theuser from (my ip) port 13547 ssh2 sshd[27236]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session opened for user theuser by (uid=0) sshd[27300]: subsystem request for sftp sshd[27236]: pam_unix(sshd:session): session closed for user theuser Update: I've been prodding this for a while now, I've got the sftp command on another server giving me a more useful error. Request for subsystem 'sftp' failed on channel 0 Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer Everything I've found on the net suggests this id a problem with sftp-server but when I remove the chroot from sshd config I can access the system. I assume this means sftp-server is accessible and set up correctly.
