Question 2 - Assuming all the values in the array are to be the same barr a few, is it possible to selectively assign values at compile time in a programmatic manner? eg: const std::size_t size = 7; unsigned int list[size] = { 0, 0, 2, 3, 0, 0, 0 }; Solutions using C++0x are welcome The array may be quite large, few hundred elements long The array for now will only consist of POD types It can also be assumed the size of the array will be known beforehand, in a static compile-time compliant manner.   • Assigning large UInt32 constants in VB.Net

    I inquired on VB's erratic behavior of treating all numerics as signed types back in this question, and from the accepted answer there, was able to get by. Per that answer: Visual Basic Literals Also keep in mind you can add literals to your code in VB.net and explicitly state constants as unsigned. So I tried this: Friend Const POW_1_32 As UInt32 = 4294967296UI And VB.NET throws an Overflow error in the IDE. Pulling out the integer overflow checks doesn't seem to help -- this appears to be a flaw in the IDE itself. This, however, doesn't generate an error: Friend Const POW_1_32 As UInt64 = 4294967296UL So this suggests to me that the IDE isn't properly parsing the code and understanding the difference between Int32 and UInt32. Any suggested workarounds and/or possible clues on when MS will make unsigned data types intrinsic to the framework instead of the hacks they currently are?

I wrote this statement: SELECT `bike_id`,`user_id`,max(last_change_date) FROM `bike_to_owner` WHERE `user_id` = 3 group by `last_change_date` but i'm not quite sure it works correctly in all cases. Can you please verify this is correct and if not suggest me something better. Using php/mysql. Thanks in advance!

I mean this code doesn't work as it doesn't print cp[0].

    I have a struct with three variables: two unsigned ints and an unsigned char. From my understanding, a c++ char is always 1 byte regardless of what operating system it is on. The same can't be said for other datatypes. I am looking for a way to normalize POD's so that when saved into a binary file, the resulting file is readable on any operating system that the code is compiled for. I changed my struct to use a 1-byte alignment by adding #pragma as follows: #pragma pack(push, 1) struct test { int a; } #pragma pack(pop) but that doesn't necessarily mean that int a is exactly 4 bytes on every os, I don't think? Is there a way to ensure that a file saved from my code will always be readable?
