  • Blade servers in a home

    - by Zubair
I'm thinking of buying a blade server enclosure I can use at home and just plug in more servers for more power. Does anyone have any experience with this? Also, what sort of prices am I looking at for an enclosure, as I have noticed that Dell doesn't list prices on their site.

  • In-House Generated Certificates Supported for Signing E-Business Suite JAR Files

    - by Elke Phelps (Oracle Development)
The E-Business Suite uses Java Archive (JAR) files to deliver certain types of E-Business Suite content desktop clients.  Previously we announced the support of securing JAR files with 3072-bit certificates signed by a third-party Certificate Authority (CA).  We now support securing JAR files with in-house generated certificates.  The new steps to use an in-house Certificate Authority for securing JAR files are provided in: Enhanced Signing of Oracle E-Business Suite JAR Files (Note 1207184.1) This enhancement is great news for those of you familiar with the warning that is triggered when using a self-signed certificate.  As a result of supporting self-signed certificates, the following warning can be avoided: Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 Certified Platforms Linux x86 (Oracle Linux 4, 5) Linux x86 (RHEL 3, 4, 5) Linux x86 (SLES 9, 10) Linux x86-64 (Oracle Linux 4, 5) Linux x86-64 (RHEL 4, 5) Linux x86-64 (SLES 9, 10)  Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) (8, 9, 10) IBM AIX on Power Systems (64-bit) (5.3, 6.1) IBM Linux on System z** (RHEL 5, SLES 9, SLES 10) HP-UX Itanium (11.23, 11.31) HP-UX PA-RISC (64-bit) (11.11, 11.23, 11.31) Microsoft Windows Server (32-bit) (2003, 2008 for EBS 12.1 only) Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i Certified Platforms Linux x86 (Oracle Enterprise Linux 4, 5) Linux x86 (RHEL 3, 4, 5) Linux x86 (SLES 8, 9, 10) Linux x86 (Asianux 1.0) Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit) (8, 9, 10) IBM AIX on Power Systems (64-bit) (5.3, 6.1) HP-UX PA-RISC (64-bit) (11.11, 11.23, 11.31) HP Tru64 (5.1b) Microsoft Windows Server (32-bit) (2000, 2003) References Enhanced Signing of Oracle E-Business Suite JAR Files (Note 1207184.1) Related Articles Two New Options for Signing E-Business Suite JAR Files Now Available What Are the Minimum Desktop Requirements for EBS? • how does a web application cope with thousands of requests?

    - by netrox
I went to a few websites and noticed that they all use AJAX technology for many tasks such as chat, messages, and so forth. They use a lot of httprequests obviously. My question is if you build a simple website using AJAX and you expected only few people per hour and then you start to have like 1,000 members logged per hour - can a single web application handle more requests per hour if you just upgrade to faster bigger servers or do you have to rewrite the code? Exactly how do you "scale" the web application?

  • 3 Servers, 2 Work Fine, One Has Network Issues

    - by ScaleOvenStove
i have 3 servers, all relatively the same hardware/config, etc. I run some data pulls on all 3, and on 2 of them, they have 1 nic, and they work fine. On the other , there are 2 nics, and unless they are both plugged in or teamed, the processes time out. Any ideas on why this would be? It doesn't make sense to me, as the other two work fine with 1 nic and don't time out when running the same processes.

  • How do you name your servers?

    - by awells527
How do you decide what you name your servers? Do you keep it simple/boring like svr-01, svr-02; make it descriptive like citrix-01, share-01; or do you make it creative like the names of the planets, peanuts characters, etc?

  • How should I integrate Active Directory with Windows clients and Linux clients and servers

    - by Steve Nadie
I have Windows and Linux clients and I want to provide Active Directory authentication for both but keeping DHCP and DNS on Linux servers. Is this possible ? I have very little experience in administration and I'm kind of lost here on how I should implement this so it all works together. What is the best way to do this ? I'm free to choose linux distributions and windows server version as long as it's earlier than 2003

  • Windows 7 pricing

    - by bwerks
I'm having trouble wading through Microsoft's marketing information. Does anyone know if Windows 7 x86 to Windows 7 x64 is a valid upgrade path? I know you can't actually use the built-in "upgrade" installation path; this is more of a licensing question. Although that may have answered my own question: is this idea even possible? Or do "upgrade" versions of Windows function only when executed from inside the OS, and not when doing fresh installs? Thanks!

  • There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request

    - by Adriaan
I am the guy that was closest to the server :( and am actually a developer. I am getting this error, There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request, when a machine on the domain is trying to be accessed from other machines from the network. Accessing other machines from this machine works as expected. How should I go about to fix this? We are running a Windows Server 2003 and XP Pro clients.

  • Why are my 32bit OpenGL libraries pointing to mesa instead of nvidia, and how do I fix it?

    - by Codemonkey
I have installed Nvidia's drivers on my Ubuntu 13 system, but according to this command (ldconfig -p | grep GL): $ ldconfig -p | grep GL libQtOpenGL.so.4 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQtOpenGL.so.4 libGLU.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLU.so.1 libGLEWmx.so.1.8 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLEWmx.so.1.8 libGLEW.so.1.8 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libGLEW.so.1.8 libGLESv2.so.2 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libGLESv2.so.2 libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 libGL.so.1 (libc6) => /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libGL.so libEGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/mesa-egl/libEGL.so.1 The 32bit version of OpenGL is pointing to mesa's libraries instead of nvidia. This causes my Steam games to refuse to launch with the error: Could not find required OpenGL entry point 'glGetError'! Either your video card is unsupported, or your OpenGL driver needs to be updated. Why is this the case? When the nvidia installer asked me if I wanted to install "32bit compatability libraries" (or something like that) I chose yes. How do I fix this? Edit: I just reinstalled the same Nvidia driver, and that apparently removed the 32bit OpenGL driver completely: $ ldconfig -p | grep libGL.so libGL.so.1 (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 libGL.so (libc6,x86-64) => /usr/lib/libGL.so Now Steam won't start: You are missing the following 32-bit libraries, and Steam may not run: libGL.so.1 Again, I chose YES when the installer asked me if I wanted to install 32bit libraries. Why are they not installed!?

  • Spaces and Parenthesis in windows PATH variable screws up batch files.

    - by NoName
So, my path variable (System-Adv Settings-Env Vars-System-PATH) is set to: C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4\bin; %SystemRoot%\system32; %SystemRoot%; %SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem; %SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\; C:\Python26\; C:\Python26\Scripts\; C:\cygwin\bin; "C:\PathWithSpaces\What_is_this_bullshit"; "C:\PathWithSpaces 1.5\What_is_this_bullshit_1.5"; "C:\PathWithSpaces (2.0)\What_is_this_bullshit_2.0"; "C:\Program Files (x86)\IronPython 2.6"; "C:\Program Files (x86)\Subversion\bin"; "C:\Program Files (x86)\Git\cmd"; "C:\Program Files (x86)\PuTTY"; "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercurial"; Z:\droid\android-sdk-windows\tools; Although, obviously, without the newlines. Notice the lines containing PathWithSpaces - the first has no spaces, the second has a space, and the third has a space followed by a parenthesis. Now, notice the output of this batch file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin\>vcvars32.bat C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin>"C:\Program Files (x86 )\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\Common7\Tools\vsvars32.bat" Setting environment for using Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 x86 tools. \What_is_this_bullshit_2.0";"C:\Program was unexpected at this time. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0\VC\bin> set "PATH=C:\Pro gram Files\Microsoft SDKs\Windows\v6.0A\bin;C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages\PyQt4\ bin;C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem;C:\Windows\System32\ WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\Python26\;C:\Python26\Scripts\;C:\cygwin\bin;"C:\Path WithSpaces\What_is_this_bullshit";"C:\PathWithSpaces 1.5\What_is_this_bullshit_1 .5";"C:\PathWithSpaces (2.0)\What_is_this_bullshit_2.0";"C:\Program Files (x86)\ IronPython 2.6";"C:\Program Files (x86)\Subversion\bin";"C:\Program Files (x86)\ Git\cmd";"C:\Program Files (x86)\PuTTY";"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mercurial";Z:\dr oid\android-sdk-windows\tools;" or specifically the line: \What_is_this_bullshit_2.0";"C:\Program was unexpected at this time. So, what is this bullshit? Specifically: Directory in path that is properly escaped with quotes, but with no spaces = fine Directory in path that is properly escaped with quotes, and has spaces but no parenthesis = fine Directory in path that is properly escaped with quotes, and has spaces and has a parenthesis = ERROR Whats going on here? How can I fix this? I'll probably resort to a junction point to let my tools still work as workaround, but if you have any insight into this, please let me know :)

  • Linux servers going into Halt when pressing Control-D in putty or exit in the shell

    - by Itai Ganot
Since today at noon, there's a number of Linux CentOS servers which are going to Halt whenever i type exit or use Control-D to close the putty window. Did anyone encounter this weird behavior before? I've checked the aliases list on the servers and there is no alias regarding halt command. After the server came online i've checked the history and saw a "logout" command there but nothing which is related to Halt. At first, i thought it happens only from my computer but later i realized that it happens to everyone which types exit, logout or control+d. 2 of these server are our main iptables firewalls and so it's super critical, your assistance is much appreciated. It looks like that, and it only happens on servers with active IPTables: [root@srv1 bin]# ssh srv2 root@srv2's password: Last login: Sun Nov 11 17:19:41 2012 from 192.168.12.98 [root@srv2 ~]# vim /etc/crontab [root@srv2 ~]# exit logout Broadcast message from root (pts/1) (Tue Nov 13 10:44:04 2012): The system is going down for system halt NOW! Connection to srv2 closed. [root@srv1 bin]# In my troubleshooting steps i came across the command strace, and so i've opened two bash windows to one of the problematic server and i used strace -p PID_of_bash. When i typed in exit in the first shell it did go to halt, attached is the strace output, if you can check it out and tell me if you see anything suspicious i'd be more than thankful. • Intermediate certificates on NLB load balanced servers

    - by MrVimes
I am fairly sure I know how to install the 'main' certificate on load balanced servers (install on one, export, import to the others) but I'm not quite sure what to do about the intermediate certificate (the one you install using the certificates snap in in mmc) Do I manually install it using mmc on each server? or is there a similar process involved to the main cert (install, then export, then import on the others?)

  • Should we increase local port range limit on busy memcached servers

    - by Majid Azimi
nixcraft has a tutorial on configuring memcached server(link) at the end says: For busy memcached server you need to increase system file descriptor and IP port limits here is the code to do so: # Increase system IP port limits net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range = 2000 65000 why should we do this? memcached is a server and it will respond to clients with its listening port which is 11211 by default. So we shouldn't be limited by local port range.(net.ipv4.ip_local_port_range) The only limit is file descriptors. local port range should be a limit for servers like squid which generate local traffic

  • How to monitor streaming servers

    - by pcdinh
Hi all, I have had a bunch of Linux based streaming servers that employed lighttpd web server to provide video streaming via port 80. Recently, our service is very slow. Therefore, I would like to ask if there is a good software package that helps us monitor and record our bandwidth usage, lighttpd established connections, TCP sync connections, disk I/O ... over time. Any suggestions? Regards, Dinh

  • Local or public NTP servers?

    - by BeeOnRope
For a relatively large network (thousands of hosts) - what are the arguments for and against running a locally managed (pool of) NTP server(s) (perhaps periodically set via some public NTP server) and having all other hosts on the network use that (pool of) NTP server(s) versus having all hosts simply use public NTP servers directly, say via ntp.pool.org? Aside from the pros and cons, What is typical best practice today?

  • Monitoring folder diffs across servers with zabbix

    - by Marcus
Problem: I want to make sure that a certain folder is equal regarding it's contents across my servers. I do not want an automatic filesync to keep them equal, changing is done manually. My initial thought was to once a day calculate some crc/hash on folder and send to Zabbix, and trigger when values differ. Is there any good tools out there that can calculate crc or similar of a folder? Anyone know of another solution that solves my problem?

  • Two Different servers and websites on One IP

    - by bob
I'd Like to set up two different websites on one IP address using two different servers. Right now we are using Apache for our one Mac Server and it forwards correctly both to the pyhsical IP address as well as the domain. We'd like to add another domain to a new computer also running Leopard + Apache

  • iSCSI NAS supporting VMware Esxi 5.1 servers in a software development environment

    - by BigTFromAZ
I would like to build (or purchase) the smallest, quietest most energy efficient servers that I can for a low demand environment. These would only have a small disk for guest swap files, a CPU (XEON preferred), 32 Gb of memory and minimal graphics. The virtual machines need to be up but demand will be quite low. Any thought on case, format processors, fans, motherboard, et al? Small, quiet and lots of RAM are the operative words here.

  • More RAM vs. more servers

    - by user357972
I was recently asked "Do you know when to decide between going for more RAM or more servers?" (in the context of scaling data mining applications). I had no idea, so what are some ways to decide? I have very little knowledge of architecture and scaling (my understanding of computer memory and what a server does is limited to the high-level basics), so tips on learning more about these things in general are also very welcome.

  • Best way to set up servers for .NET performance

    - by msigman
Assume we have 3 physical servers and let's say we are only interested in performance, and not reliability. Is it better to give each server a specific function or make them all duplicates and split the traffic between them? In other words dedicate 1 as DB server, 1 as web server, and 1 as reporting server/data warehouse, or better to put all three services on each server and use them as web farm?
