  When users edit their account, I want to display a confirmation page that shows their updated information with the fields that they changed in bold. Is there a mysql statement that allows you to select the fields that a user changes? If not, how exactly can I achieve this Ex: (editaccount.php) first_name: bob last_name: builder email: [email protected] When they change say their first name to "james", the confirmation page shows their first name in bold because they changed that but the other areas are still normal text. first_name: <b>James</b> last_name: builder email: [email protected]

• Database for Large number of 1kB data chunks (MySQL?)

  I have a very large dataset, each item in the dataset being roughly 1kB in size. The data needs to be queried rapidly by many applications distributed over a network. The dataset has more than a million items (so 500 million+ 1kB data chunks). What would be the best method to storing this dataset (need to allow adding more items, and reading them rapidly, but never modifying already added data)? Would using a MySQL DB using the binary blob format be appropriate? Or should each of these be stored as files on a file system? edit: the number is 1 million items now, but needs to be able to scale to well over 500 million items easily.

• How can I kill MySQL queries every 60 seconds in Windows?

  I want to check my MySQL server every minute and kill queries that have run longer than 150 seconds. The main reason I want to do this is because I don't want queries from certain people to lock up the DB for everyone else. I know this is not the ultimate solution to the problem, but at least it's a fallback in case something goes wrong with a query. I don't have a slave DB (this is just an at-home project). I'd like to schedule a script to run that does this for me. I'm unfamiliar with Perl or Ruby and I need it done on my Windows 2008 Server box. I've looked into creating a simple cmd line script, but that doesn't seem to be possible. I know currently I can do something like this but I have to do it manually: mysqladmin processlist mysqladmin kill Anyone have any ideas or examples on how I could do this?

  I currently have a table for products with it's own set of tags and a table for news with it's own set of tags. I wanted to add related news to the products page so I was thinking of using like but since the column tags in the products page is something like (Products) tags- manutd, man utd, football (news) tags - manutd, blah, bruha [this one is related] (news) tags - man, utd, bruha [this one is not related] I wanted to use a query to show all news containing any of the tags(from products) seperated by commas using mysql. • Can I force MySQL to output results before query is completed?

  I have a large MySQL table (about 750 million rows) and I just want to extract a couple of columns. SELECT id, delid FROM tbl_name; No joins or selection criteria or anything. There is an index on both fields (separately). In principle, it could just start reading the table and spitting out the values immediately, but in practice the whole system just chews up memory and basically grinds to a halt. It seems like the entire query is being executed and the output stored somewhere before ANY output is produced... I've searched on unbuffering, turning off caches etc, but just cannot find the answer. (mysqldump is almost what I want except it dumps the whole table - but at least it just starts producing output immediately)

I also have one particular condition, like a company id, that will limit the number of rows that need to be searched considerably, narrowing it down to dozens from hundreds of thousands.   Hi Gurus, This is with reference to this question where I got one tabular report format. I need to update the user entered values correctly back to the same table rows. I am in the process of doing this by using general form post data methods by using some logics which I think will not be easy to maintain. So, just out of curiosity, Is there a front end creator javascript libraries or frameworks which can create the front end for any query's resultset and updates the corresponding rows when the user updates them from front end. This need not have all the full functionality, any one usable, customizable thing will reduce the code maintenance problems. I have googled for some javascript libraris for this but not able to get which will be suitable. Please suggest any useful tools. My environment is Mysql, PHP, JQuery, XAMPP server on Windows.   Hello. How would I get last 12 digits of a string using mysql? Let's say I have a varchar field with a tracking number, that may be anywhere from 5 to 20 varchars long. But I only need to select last 12 digits or less if there are less. so in a field = 12345678123456789012 I would only need to get what's in brackets field = 12345678[123456789012] I saw a few examples using mid, etc, but they dont' produce the desired result or I can't find an example that makes sense :-( Thank you.

  Hi I have some fairly simple requirements but I'm not sure how I implement them: I have multiple concurrent threads running the same query The query supplies a 'string' value - if it exists in the table, the query should return the id of the matching row, if not the query should insert the 'string' value and return the last inserted id The 'string' column is (and must be) a text column (it's bigger than varchar 255) so I cannot set it as unique - uniqueness must be enforced through the access mechanism The query needs to be in stored procedure format (which doesnt support table locks in MySQL) How can I guarantee that 'string' is unique? How can I prevent other threads writing to the table after another thread has read it and found no matching 'string' item? Thanks for any advice..

  I am trying to run this SQL from ASP.NET 2005 but am getting an invalid SQL error because it has a weird character ” in it. In my code I am trying to replace ” with " but it is not doing it as the special character in the replace command is changing to ".   Hello, I try to connect mysql via PHPMYADMIN, using my password, but it can't stop telling me that (access denied, using password NO) but i'm using a password :O When i connect via the console with my password, it works but not on phpmyadmin. It's really weird. Do you have an idea to fix that ? edit: it worked couple of days ago, because i created 2 databases and 2 users via phpmyadmin...   My shared-hosting asp.net website must automatically run data update routines at regular times of day. Once it has finished running certain update routines, it can run update routines that are dependent on the previous updates. I have done this type of work before, using quite complicated setups. Some features of the framework I created are: A cron job from another server makes a request which starts a data update routine on the main server Each updater is loaded from web.config Each updater overrides a "canRunUpdate" method that determines whether its dependencies have finished updating Each updater overrides a "hasFinishedUpdate" method Each updater overrides a "runUpdate" method Updaters start and run in parallel threads The initial request from the cron job server started each updater in its own thread and then ended. As a result, the threads containing the updaters would be terminated before the updaters were finished. Therefore I had to give the updaters the ability to save partial results and continue the update job next time they are started up. As a result, the cron server had to call the updater many times to ensure the job is done. Sometimes the cron server would continue making update requests long after all the updates were completed. Sometimes the cron server would finish calling the update requests and leave some updates uncompleted. It's not the best system. I'm looking for inspiration. Any ideas please? Thank you :)

  Hi, We have a web application that creates a dynamic PHP page with all the MySQL stored details a user has entered via a number a forms. So far so good, but we want this information stored some how to be refereed to at a later date, as an administrator can make changes to the data, which reflects on calculations that are worked out from this saved data. When going back over this saved data we need to be able to see all the information submitted for that particular calculation, so if that data has changed we will see what is was relating to that calculation. Now we have thought about maybe a snapshot when the calculation is done, pdf of the webpage or something similar would do, but is this simple to do? I hope this makes sense...

  I'm importing data to a future database that will have one, static MyISAM table (will only be read from). I chose MyISAM because as far as I understand it's faster for my requirements (I'm not very experienced with MySQL / SQL at all). That table will have various columns such as ID, Name, Gender, Phone, Status... and Country, City, Street columns. Now the question is, should I create tables (e.g Country: Country_ID, Country_Name) for the last 3 columns and refer to them in the main table by ID (normalize...[?]), or just store them as VARCHAR in the main table (having duplicates, obviously)? My primary concern is speed - since the table won't be written into, data integrity is not a priority. The only actions will be selecting a specific row or searching for rows that much a certain criteria. Would searching by the Country, City and/or Street columns (and possibly other columns in the same search) be faster if I simply use VARCHAR?

Before submitting the form I want to check the database and see if there are any fields in the column 'customerid' that equal 'userid' and if so not to post the form. Basically, I am trying to limit my users from posting more than once. Users will be able to login to my system and make ONE post.
