• Eloqua Experience 2013: Mystique, Modern Marketing and Masterful Engagement

Marketing Technology: Enable and Extend the Cloud Product News from Eloqua Experience 2013 We made some announcements that John Stetic, VP of Products, Oracle Eloqua covers in this brief ‘Modern Marketing Minute’ video recorded after Wednesday’s keynote; summarized below, too: Oracle Eloqua AdFocus: While understanding the impact of a specific marketing channel was formerly relegated to marketers’ wish lists, the channels we now focus on are digital, social, and mobile. AdFocus gives marketers a single platform to dynamically create, manage and measure display ads alongside owned and earned media. AdFocus enables marketers to target only key accounts or prospects you want to reach with display ads, as well as provide creative content or personalized ad copy based on their persona and activities. Oracle Eloqua Profiler: The details of what we now know about customers have expanded into a universal customer profile, which can be used to create highly targeted segments. Marketers now can take data that’s not even stored in Eloqua to help targeted and score prospects for a complete, multichannel view of the customer. Profiler gives sales reps one, detailed view of the prospect to extend views beyond Oracle Eloqua asset activity (emails, forms, page views) to any external assets stored in Oracle Eloqua. Marketing Resource Management: New capabilities create more secure and controlled access to marketing resources and data. New integrations provide greater insight into campaign resources and management through a central marketing calendar and simplify resource management. Integrated Sales and Marketing Funnel: An integrated sales and marketing funnel view gives marketing and sales users, cross-functional teams, and executive management a consistent and clear view of pipeline performance. It also quickly provides users with historical metrics across different time spans and conditions. Eloqua AppCloud: More than 20 new AppCloud partners have been added to the community, which now includes 100+ apps. Eloqua AppCloud now provides modern marketers with an even broader range of marketing applications that help expand and enrich sales and marketing efforts; easily accessible in the Topliners Community. Social Capabilities: Recent integration between Oracle Eloqua and Oracle Social Relationship Management (SRM) deliver a comprehensive, scalable and integrated modern marketing solution. New capabilities include better tracking of social activities for a more complete customer profile. Engage Facebook custom audiences with AdFocus to deliver ads and meaningful experiences through trusted social networks. Biggest and Best Eloqua Experience. • IE9, LightSwitch Beta 2 and Zune HD: A Study in Risk Management?

  Photo by parl, 'Risk.’ Under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs License This has been a busy week for Microsoft, and for me as well.  On Monday, Microsoft launched Internet Explorer 9 at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, TX.  That evening I flew from New York to Seattle.  On Tuesday morning, Microsoft launched Visual Studio LightSwitch, Beta 2 with a Go-Live license, in Redmond, and I had the privilege of speaking at the keynote presentation where the announcement was made.  Readers of this blog know I‘m a fan of LightSwitch, so I was happy to tell the app dev tools partners in the audience that I thought the LightSwitch extensions ecosystem represented a big opportunity – comparable to the opportunity when Visual Basic 1.0 was entering its final beta roughly 20 years ago.  On Tuesday evening, I flew back to New York (and wrote most of this post in-flight). Two busy, productive days.  But there was a caveat that impacts the accomplishments, because Monday was also the day reports surfaced from credible news agencies that Microsoft was discontinuing its dedicated Zune hardware efforts.  While the Zune brand, technology and service will continue to be a component of Windows Phone and a piece of the Xbox puzzle as well, speculation is that Microsoft will no longer be going toe-to-toe with iPod touch in the portable music player market. If we take all three of these developments together (even if one of them is based on speculation), two interesting conclusions can reasonably be drawn, one good and one less so. Microsoft is doubling down on technologies it finds strategic and de-emphasizing those that it does not.  HTML 5 and the Web are strategic, so here comes IE9, and it’s a very good browser.  Try it and see.  Silverlight is strategic too, as is SQL Server, Windows Azure and SQL Azure, so here comes Visual Studio LightSwitch Beta 2 and a license to deploy its apps to production.  Downloads of that product have exceeded Microsoft’s projections by more than 50%, and the company is even citing analyst firms’ figures covering the number of power-user developers that might use it. (I happen to think the product will be used by full-fledged developers as well, but that’s a separate discussion.) Windows Phone is strategic too…I wasn’t 100% positive of that before, but the Nokia agreement has made me confident.  Xbox as an entertainment appliance is also strategic.  Standalone music players are not strategic – and even if they were, selling them has been a losing battle for Microsoft.  So if Microsoft has consolidated the Zune content story and the ZunePass subscription into Xbox and Windows Phone, it would make sense, and would be a smart allocation of resources.  Essentially, it would be for the greater good. But it’s not all good.  In this scenario, Zune player customers would lose out.  Unless they wanted to switch to Windows Phone, and then use their phone’s battery for the portable media needs, they’re going to need a new platform.  They’re going to feel abandoned.  Even if Zune lives, there have been other such cul de sacs for customers.  Remember SPOT watches?  Live Spaces?  The original Live Mesh?  Microsoft discontinued each of these products.  The company is to be commended for cutting its losses, as admitting a loss isn’t easy.  But Redmond won’t be well-regarded by the victims of those decisions.  Instead, it gets black marks. What’s the answer?  I think it’s a bit like the 1980’s New York City “don’t block the box” gridlock rules: don’t enter an intersection unless you see a clear path through it.  If the light turns red and you’re blocking the perpendicular traffic, that’s your fault in judgment.  You get fined and get points on your license and you don’t get to shrug it off as beyond your control.  Accountability is key.  The same goes for Microsoft.  If it decides to enter a market, it should see a reasonable path through success in that market. Switching analogies, Microsoft shouldn’t make investments haphazardly, and it certainly shouldn’t ask investors to buy into a high-risk fund that is sold as safe and which offers only moderate returns.  People won’t continue to invest with a fund manager with a track record of over-zealous, imprudent, sub-prime investments.  The same is true on the product side for Microsoft, and not just with music players and geeky wrist watches.  It’s true of Web browsers, and line-of-business app dev tools, and smartphones, and cloud platforms and operating systems too.  When Microsoft is casual about its own risk, it raises risk for its customers, and weakens its reputation, market share and credibility.  That doesn’t mean all risk is bad, but it does mean no product team’s risk should be taken lightly. For mutual fund companies, it’s the CEO’s job to give his fund managers autonomy, but to make sure they’re conforming to a standard of rational risk management.  Because all those funds carry the same brand, and many of them serve the same investors. The same goes for Microsoft, its product portfolio, its executive ranks and its product managers.

• How to programmatically create customcontrol and change its values in Silverlight 4

  Hi! I want to create a custom tabcontrol class which has an icon before the text, and I want to be able to change the icon in the constructor of the new tabcontrol. I use implicit styles in Silverlight 4, and the custom tabcontrol should not have any xaml of its own, just the class and the implicit xaml style in my App.xaml. I cannot, however, get this to work. • 'SImple' 2 class Java calculator doesn't accept inputs or do calculations

  Hi, I'm trying to get a two class java calculator working (new to java) to work but so far i'm having no success. the two classes are outlined below, calcFrame is for the interface and calEngine should do the actual calculations but i can't get them to talk to one another. i'd really appreciate any assistance on same.   My application uses JPA read data into TableView then modify and display them. The table refreshed modified record under JavaFx 2.0.3. Under JavaFx 2.1, 2.2, the table wouldn't refresh the update anymore. I found other people have similar issue. My plan was to continue using 2.0.3 until someone fixes the issue under 2.1 and 2.2. Now I know it is not a bug and wouldn't be fixed. Well, I don't know how to deal with this. Following are codes are modified from sample demo to show the issue. If I add a new record or delete a old record from table, table refreshes fine. If I modify a record, the table wouldn't refreshes the change until a add, delete or sort action is taken. If I remove the modified record and add it again, table refreshes. But the modified record is put at button of table. Well, if I remove the modified record, add the same record then move the record to the original spot, the table wouldn't refresh anymore.   I've set up a DirectAccess server on Windows Server 2012 at my workplace. I'm using a Windows 8 Enterprise client to connect to it. It works fine over a mobile connection, but it fails when connecting from home. I've ruled out the firewall/router as the culprit as the issues persist when connecting the laptop directly to the cable modem. I'm not sure where to begin to debug this, does anyone have any pointers? Both Teredo and IPHTTPS interfaces are up (although as the server is behind a NAT and we only have 1 public IP I understand that IPHTTPS is the only protocol that will be used).   I have created an Amazon RDS database under the free tier (SQL Server Express, micro instance etc.), but I cannot connect to the server using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. I have configured the security group of the database instance (default) to accept my IP address. I am following the connection guide from amazon located here The error I receive is: Cannot connect to databaseName.c***rnqg***v.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com,1433. A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections.   I have an existing Exchange 2003 server running on Windows Server 2003. I am in the process of replacing our current server infrastructure and virtualizing it all in Hyper-V. I have Essential Business Server 2008 installed in 3 separate VMs and running. Everything seems to be working fine so far. I am now trying to migrate my exchange mailboxes over to the new exchange server in the messaging server and every time I try I get this error: MapiExceptionNetworkError: Unable to make admin interface connection to server. (hr=0x80040115, ec=-2147221227) I have done some searching and found solutions like adding the computer to the exchange domain servers groups and install group, also making sure the user logged into the new server is in the proper groups. I also saw a solution in making sure that any unused NICs are disabled. I've tried all that to no avail.

All the references I can see have to do with building php5 packages for php4 or the like. PHP4 has never been installed on this machine.

  Following on from this question: Why does my PowerShell script hang when called in PSEXEC via a batch (.cmd) file? I took the advice from Jim B and installed WinRM. To recap I have two servers: HMon01 - runs Windows 2003 Standard SP2 Web1928 - runs Windows 2008 Standard SP2 Both servers are standalone. I installed WinRM for Windows 2003 from here and configured WinRM as follows on both machines: Client NetworkDelayms = 5000 URLPrefix = wsman AllowUnencrypted = false Auth Basic = true Digest = true Kerberos = true Negotiate = true Certificate = true DefaultPorts HTTP = 80 HTTPS = 443 TrustedHosts = * The problem I have is that if I remotely execute commands using the remote machine's built in Administrator account then all is well. However I have an account on the remote machine named remoteexec which is a member of the Administrators group (we disable our Administrator accounts). If I use this account then I get Access Denied errors. I've done all the usual things such as checking passwords and the like. Why would this be?

  I am looking for a good solution to collaborate on Microsoft Office documents, we currently just edit directly on a Samba share but it's one big mess because sometimes people leave the office with their laptops while docs are open so swap files remain there and then you nobody is sure what's going on. Is there any good and simple open source solution based on Linux? I've tried Alfresco but it is much more than what I need, we got an internal wiki for most collaboration and I just need some solution for the stuff we need to do in Microsoft Office (mostly Excel files, the rest is in the wiki) EDIT: Some more info as requested - we are very small group, 4 full time employees and a few freelancers. The best idea I've got so far is just managing it in a subversion repository with a Lock-Modify-Lock policy but I'd love to hear about better solutions. Thanks!

  Hello, We've just got a HTC HD2 handset through (UK - T-mobile); and we've installed the Cisco Anyconnect client. It connects ok but then after a few seconds disconnects, then reconnects. It then keeps cycling through in this way, and at no point can we even attempt to sync Exchange! The phone log does suggest a lack of service; but the phone can browse the net, make calls, etc and appears to have good signal throughout.   Trying to install PS2007 with SP1 on Server 2003. The install goes fine, but when running the SharePoint Configuration Wizard, it fails at stage 6 of 12 with the error: Failed to register SharePoint Services. An exception of type System.InvalidOperationException was thrown. Additional exception information: Cannot start service ProjectEventService on computer '.'. From the PSCDiagnostics log: Exception: System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot start service ProjectEventService on computer '.'. --- System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion. The ProjectEventService (Microsoft Office Project Server Event) won't even start manually using the Network Service account. Starting the service with a domain account works, but subsequently running the Config Wizard causes the service to be removed and re-provisioned to run using the Network Service account, which again fails. Presumably Network Service needs elevated permissions, but even adding it to the local Admin group makes no difference. Anyone come across this sort of issue before?

  One of our customers has just found a problem when trying to create a file on the root of the C:\ Drive, on a Windows 7 Professional PC. I know they shouln't be keeping files here, but there is a valid reason in this case, so I've relaxed the security on the root of C:\ by giving the group 'users' modify permission. Before I relaxed the security, the user was receiving 'access denied', but now they are receiving the message: An unexpected error is keeping you from creating the file. If you continue to recieve this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070522: A required priviledge is not held by the client. Googling for this suggests that it is caused by UAC, but how can I get round this when the user doesn't have admin rights on their PC?

Unfortunately it looks like I forgot to specify the number of stripes when I created the logical volumes (it was late): PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree /dev/md312 volume lvm2 a- 927.01G 291.01G /dev/md334 volume lvm2 a- 927.01G 927.01G I know that I can move all the data of a logical volume from one physical volume to another with pvmove. It also looks like lvextend supports an -i switch to change the number of stripes. Is there any way to combine these two, ie. change the number of stripes and "rebalance" the data over the stripes based on the allocation policy? According to this mail by Ross Walker from March 2010 it isn't possible but maybe this has changed since then.

I'm in rescue mode and I've created one physical volume (pvcreate /dev/xvda1) for my entire drive, which is formatted as LVM. i'm now trying to create a volume group using vgcreate main /dev/xvda1, but it's returning "Command failed with status code 5.". I've been unable to find an explanation for this error code. does anyone know what it means? for what it's worth, my goal is to create multiple logical volumes on my drive using lvm. thanks

  I can't get access to a folder on our server and can't understand why. Perhaps someone will see what I'm overlooking...   I'm trying to install the Shrew VPN client. In the process of installation an error occurs: Error 0x800f0203: Couldn't install the network component. It occurs when the installer tries to execute C:\Program Files\ShrewSoft\VPN Client\netcfg.exe -add service vflt C:\Program Files\ShrewSoft\VPN Client\drivers\vfilter.inf Antivirus, firewall, etc are disabled and I'm running as an administrator. I've installed vfilter.inf manually, but it leads nowhere. I have a similar situation with the Cisco VPN client.
