• Is it a problem if i query again and again to SQL Server 2005 and 2000?

  Window app i am constructing is for very low end machines (Celeron with max 128 RAM). From the following two approaches which one is the best (I don't want that application becomes memory hog for low end machines):- Approach One:- Query the database Select GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate which is returning me more than 300 thousands records (but only one field i.e. GUID - 300 thousands GUIDs). Now running a loop to achieve next process of this software based on GUID. Second Approach:- Query the database Select Top 1 GUID from Table1 where DateTime <= @givendate with top 1 again and again until all 300 thousands records done. It will return me only one GUID at a time, and I can do my next step of operation. What do you suggest which approach will use the less Memory Resources?? (Speed / performance is not the issue here).

  What is the best way to evaluate simple conditional statements like: "a>b" ? "x-4<10+y & y>x" ? Expressions are loaded from external file. Variables are set in application. Syntax used is not essential. It may be "&" or "and" or any other supported with language/library. I need to take different action depending on result of evaluation - is it true or false. Could I use any parser already included with Andorid? Is there some way to use JS "eval" from browser component? Is it possible to use sqlite expressions to get true/false result without selecting anything? Those libraries are implemented in native code. Will it be faster and less battery expensive?

I mean say suppose i have a menu in template, and based on roles menu changes. If the Admin logs in, he will get to show more options and if general user logs in he will get to see less options. • ffmpeg - join / merge on top of each other

  I'm trying to join together two videos on top of each other. I already did these two ffmpeg commands ffmpeg -i 2_Out_of_Control.VOB -aspect 16:9 \ -vf "yadif=0:-1:0,crop=w=714:h=476:x=6:y=0,scale=1280:720,boxblur=lp=13" \ -c:v libx264 -preset medium \ -c:a copy \ '2(blurred)Out_of_Control.mp4' ffmpeg -i 2_Out_of_Control.VOB \ -vf "yadif=0:-1:0,crop=w=714:h=476:x=6:y=0,scale=1080:720" \ -c:v libx264 -preset medium \ -c:a copy \ '2(clear)Out_of_Control.mp4' I'm currently stuck on making the "clear" version on top of the "blurred" version. I'm not sure how to do that. Can anybody help please? Been googling for around 2 days already. Only achieved it by using OpenShot but yeah, would prefer if there is an ffmpeg command to merge the two videos on top of each other. • python: find and replace numbers < 1 in text file

  I'm pretty new to Python programming and would appreciate some help to a problem I have... Basically I have multiple text files which contain velocity values as such: 0.259515E+03 0.235095E+03 0.208262E+03 0.230223E+03 0.267333E+03 0.217889E+03 0.156233E+03 0.144876E+03 0.136187E+03 0.137865E+00 etc for many lines... What I need to do is convert all the values in the text file that are less than 1 (e.g. 0.137865E+00 above) to an arbitrary value of 0.100000E+01. While it seems pretty simple to replace specific values with the 'replace()' method and a while loop, how do you do this if you want to replace a range? thanks

• Fortran - String with unknown characters into substrings

  I am trying to put an input string into sub-string arrays. The number of data in the input file are less than 10 but unknown. The number of spaces between each data is also unclear. Example: Asd B Cwqe21 Ddsw Eww I am quite novice to Fortran, so I do not know which format I should use. My problem is that I do not know the number of data (here I assumed that there are 5), so how can I make the code work? I tried the following which did not work: CHARACTER (LEN=100), DIMENSION(10) :: string READ (1,*) (string,I=1,10) It seems that the error I got was because there was no 6th string to read and put into string(6). I tried using the "Index" to find the space, but since I do not know how many spaces are in the string, it did not help me.

I have the code to check for any matching images, but if there are supposed to be four matching image paths (as that is how many are in the first collection), and there is less than this, how can I get the missing one without writing loops?   I dont have any experience for web services. please give me some suggestion about the task below. the task is: users will send a txt file (size should less than 20K ) from a .NET application, I need to write a web services which runs by jboss 5.x to read this file and edit this file and send the file back to .NET UI to display the edited version. question is that if the txt file is just test string or binary string, are there any restriction of the string length? if it's binary string, can I need to use BinaryReader class to read it? or not need special reader to read it? (this could be a dumn question :P) what if the .NET application can save the file on either the .NET application server or some shared server location, send a download URL to web serivces, can web services download it and read it? JBoss will be run on Linux sever. After edit the file, how do I send it back? Thanks for your help!

• Detecting crosses in an image

  I am working on a program to detect the tips of a probing device and analyze the color change during probing. The input/output mechanisms are more or less in place. What I need now is the actual meat of the thing: detecting the tips. In the images below, the tips are at the center of the crosses. I thought of applying BFS to the images after some threshold'ing but was then stuck and didn't know how to proceed. I then turned to OpenCV after reading that it offers feature detection in images. However, I am overwhelmed by the vast amount of concepts and techniques utilized here and again, clueless about how to proceed. Am I looking at it the right way? Can you give me some pointers?   Our product includes several DLLs built from open source into files with default names as delivered by the open source developers. We're careful to install the files in our own directories and we carefully manage the search path (only for our processes) to keep the loader happy. Another developer -- a towering intellect -- decided it would be easier to install their own build of some of the same open source into C:\WINDOWS under the same default DLL filenames. Consequently, when we launch a process which depends on these open source DLLs, the system searches C:\WINDOWS before our directories and finds the DLLs installed by the other developer. And they are, of course, incompatible. Ideas which have occurred to me so far: rename all our DLLs to avoid the default names, which would only make it less likely we would encounter collisions load all our DLLs by full path so the loader captures their names into RAM and doesn't search anywhere else the next time they are requested For various reasons, neither of these options is palatable at the moment. What else can we do to defend ourselves against the towering intellects of the world?

  [This is an empirical question about the state-of-the-art: I am NOT asking if Java is cooler or less cool than the dynamic languages that work in the JVM.] Aside from cases where performance is a main decision factor, do companies/developers still willingly chose Java over Groovy, JRuby or JPython? Personal Note: The reason I am asking is that, while I do some subset of my professional work in Ruby (not JRuby, for now), in my personal projects I use Java. While I have written non-trivial apps in Groovy, I prefer Java, but I wonder if I should just get over it and do everything in Groovy. I like Java because I feel that static typing saves me time and aids refactoring. (No, I am not familiar with Scala.) However, I feel that this very empirical, on-topic programming question may inform my decision.

  At my company we want to start using a dependency injection (DI) framework for managing our dependencies. I have some difficulty with explaining the business value of such a framework. Currently I have come up with these reasons. Less source code, delete all the builder patterns in the code. Increase in flexibility. Easier to switch dependencies. Better separation of concern. The framework is responsible for creating instances instead of our code. Has anybody else had to persuade management? How did you do that? What reasons did you use?

  I am very new to Java (and programming in general, my previous experience is with ActionScript 2.0 and some simple JavaScript), and I am working my way slowly and methodically through Java: A Beginner's Guide by Herbert Schildt. It is an incredible book. For one thing, I finally understand more-or-less what bitwise operators (which I first encountered in ActionScript 2.0) do, and that they are more efficient than other methods for certain sums. My question is, is it more efficient to use a method that uses, say, a shift right, to perform all your divisions/2 (or divisions/even) for you in a large program with many calculations (in this case, a sprawling RPG), or is it more efficient to simply use standard mathematical operations because the compiler will optimise it all for you? Or, am I asking the wrong question entirely?

  I am mulling over whether to buy a new monitor, to go along side my current setup of two 24 (ish) inch monitors. What I want to know is whether this is worth the money (probably around £200)? I think most of us will agree that two monitors is much more productive than one when programming and developing (Jeff Atwood has said this many times on his blog, and I imagine that most of you are fans of his), but is three much more productive than two? What I'm worried about is that I will have so much space that one monitor will be used for things that are not related to the task (music, facebook etc.) and it will actually make me less productive.

• What is the best way to make a game timer in Actionscript 3?

  I have built an online game system that depends on a timer that records how long it took a player to complete a challenge. It needs to be accurate to the millisecond. Their time is stored in a SQL database. The problem is that when I use the Timer class, some players are ending up getting scores in the database of less than a second. (which is impossible, as most challenges would take at least 11 seconds to complete even in a perfect situation.) What I have found is that if a player has too many browser windows open, and/or a slow computer, the flash game slows down actually affecting the timer speed itself. The timer is 'spinning' on screen so you can physically see the numbers slowing down. It is frustrating that I cannot just open a second thread or do something to allow flash to keep accurate time regardless of whatever else is going on in the program. Any ideas?

  Skipping the question of whether this is bad design (and the question of why I would want/need to do this), I'm just wondering if my 'math' is right... I have n things that need to be put in order (n is always less than 5): thing1 thing2 thing3 ... and I'd like to store these results in a single integer for thing. My initial thought is that (obviously the code will not look like this): thing = thing1 * 1 + thing2 * 2 + thing3 * 4 + thing5 * 8 will always give me a unique value, and that any value for thing will always translate back to its values for thing1...thingn. Is this correct?

We can traverse through listbox items using Up and Down arrows where as I wan to traverse the list using Left and Right arrow keys. While I am trying to add the key down event for Listbox, It shows almost all key presses except for Arrow Keys, Home, End and Similar keys.
