  • Slave/secondary DNS nameserver

    I'm learning about DNS and have a very basic, generic question about DNS but I can't find an answer anywhere. I have DNS for a few domains set up as follows: - master records with DNS company A - slave records with DNS company B Company A's nameservers are: ns1.companyA.com. ns2.companyA.com. ns3.companyA.com. ns4.companyA.com. ns5.companyA.com. and company B has three slaves: ns6.companyB.com. ns7.companyB.com. ns8.companyB.com. Everything works fine transferring the records between the nameservers and keeping them in sync. But my question is: The registrar of my domain example.com allows me to choose 4 nameservers only. Do I just pick the first 4 for company A, or do I need to include 1 or more of company B's slave nameservers too?

    Hello All, I have one server 2008 installed with AD, SQL and IIS. Now I am trying to attach different HDD on this server only. I am able to install windows server 2008 r2 64bit on the server, but when I try to install the ActiveDirectory on the server the setup doesn't get completed and keep processing at following level. "Configuring Active directory and local host domains ......." If I attach same HDD on any other PC Active directory setups completes successfully. My server is Xeon quad core with 8GB of RAM. Can any one help the appropriate solution for this?

  • Exchange 2007 Email Address Policies

    We have recently upgraded to Exchange 2007 (from 2003) and have noticed the change from recipient policies to email address policies. We have two separate domains (let's call them domaina.com and domainb.com) we receive email for, have email address policies and both email address policies are not applied. In our Exchange 2003 environment, domaina.com was the default email address when we created new mailboxes and due to the migration, domainb is the default (and its email address policy is a higher priority). Now, when we create a new mailbox (or edit existing ones), the primary email address becomes domainb.com. Now the question is, is this as simple as putting the email address policies in the correct order? Do I have to apply both policies? What effect will the above changes make to existing mailboxes? Since we do not have any conditions set on the policies, I assume prior to making these changes, I should force all domainb mailboxes to not automatically update email address based on policy?     Apache2 Plesk 9.x I have a website www.example.com and my blog is on www.example.com/blog I have no content on www.example.com as of now So I want all requests for example.com to be redirected to www.example.com/blog How should I do that ? Is this something I can do in Apache? I am using the GoDaddy DNS server. Not sure if it matters- but I have multiple domains hosted n the same server. And I am using Plesk to manage my virtual hosts.

  • How do I extend the virsh/qemu/libvirt Timeout?

    There's a known issue with starting virtual machines with large hard drive images. Apparently, the time-out is 3 seconds, but in reality, it can take up to 15 seconds for a machine to start. I've read several bug reports, and people confirming it's a time-out problem, but I have yet to see a solution. Is there an option I can pass, like: virsh start MyMachine --ignore-timeout Or a config file that needs changed? Thanks!

  • Intraforest user account merge with Active Directory

    I have a scenario where there is a root domain (RD) and two child domains (CD1 and CD2). Users have accounts on both CD1 and CD2, with identical samAccountNames, names etc, and various applications either use the CD1 or CD2 account for authentication to resources. I need to collapse CD2 into CD1, so I want to merge the accounts together. However ADMT does not allow me this option (merge options are greyed out), I think because it does not support intraforest merge of accounts (although it does not explicitly state this anywhere in the documentation). My question is - what is the easiest way for me to merge these accounts? Ultimately all I really need (I think) is for the SID of CD2\user1 to be added to the SIDHistory of CD1\user1 - is there a tool that supports this? Computer accounts and profiles are not a concern for this scenario. Group migration is unlikely to be an issue either - CD2\user1 is usually granted resource access through membership of a group on CD1.

The computer will be running a few virtual machines - A dev machine running VS-2010, a build machine, a version-control machine, a web server for testing, a "personal" machine running office etc. Any suggestions? Processor, MB, disks etc? (P.S. The only item I AM sure of is that the machine will be using a Xonar Essence Stx, connected to my NAND amplifier ;-)

    I am migrating a bunch of mailboxes to google apps. Each user owns several mailboxes each serving different domains (john has [email protected], [email protected], and so on...) Currently, those accounts are hosted on (edit:NOT an exchange server) an old SMTP/POP server we want to replace, and I need to edit their outlook 2007 configuration to change the pop, smtp and password parameters. The hard way to do it is to connect to each outlook session and edit the parameters manually. I want to avoid that. Because that represents over 700 accounts spread between 40 users... :'( How can I automate this configuration change ? In the active directory ? Using a PRF file ? note: I'm a linux sysadmin with very little knowledge of windows's black magic.

    I have got two domains: a.com and b.com. Currently all mails to [email protected] are insert to the mailbox "a". I configure in the file /etc/postfix/vmailbox that all mails to [email protected] are forwarded to [email protected]. Now I want to send mails from b.com, but postfix only accept smtp-requests from [email protected]. How can I add a new SMTP account without creating a new "dummy" mailbox? Is there any possibility to create an alias for outbox-accounts? I'm using ISPConfig 3.0.4.2 as configuration backend for postfix.

  • SMB returns the entire file instead of header info

    Starting a section of code checks for access to many data files (flat files so each table is a file) and when I do a packet capture, in our capture only the header info is sent by the server to the client. However I have one Customer who is using a SAN that gets the whole file instead of just the header info,and besides just being slower, this is causing file access issues. They have already turned off OPLOCKS at the server and at the workstations. This is not client server. The data files and the application reside on the server but the users run the application locally via a shortcut with a mapped drive or UNC. So when I simply select an option that prompts for a vehicle number, not tryng to select a record but rather simply verify the datafiles are accessible, that window opens in 1-2 seconds for me. When they do the same thing it takes 6-15 seconds after there several users are running the program. Maximum number of users is 15. The program has a lot of small modules, 800 .cob modules. So it is very chatty but these are datafiles. We have Wireshark captures that show he's pulling the whole file and we're just getting the header. Thier capture vs ours. We suspect the SAN. Has anyone ever heard of a SAN improperly interpreting runtime requests? So an SMB request. This is Acucobol-GT (now Microfocus). The application is written in COBOL. This is not a new program just a new problem. This is one customer of over a thousand who are otherwise running smoothly and we are totally stumped. All XP users, the server is Windows 2003 (with Virtual server) and I don't yet know the SAN info. Also we have many installations running virtual servers but only few on SANs or we just don't know it. This is not a network throught put issue, the load is less than 5% on the server and theer are no timeout or retransmits. PS If it wasn't for Wireshark I'd still be chasing my tail. An application trace file on thier installation just looks like they run slower. If you want the Wireshark trace file I can make it available.   • tomcat dns forwarding to multiple applications

    I recently installed business objects software on tomcat 6. I have 2 domains - domain1 and domain2. This software allows access to two of its applications via these URLS: ADDRESS:http://myservername.domain1:8080/BO/APP1 and ADDRESS:http://myservername.domain1:8080/BO/APP2. Instead of these urls, I would like the end users to access these apps via something like http://bobj.domain2.com:8080/BO/APP1 and http://bobj.domain2.com:8080/BO/APP2. I cannot figure out how to accomplish that. I have looked into the option of http redirect (not good because the destination address shows up in the address bar), domain forwarding (not sure if it would work with multiple applications and forwarding from one domain to another) and also using apache tomcat with mod_jk by using virtual hosts (not sure if it is possible when forwarding from one domain to a sub domain in another domain) ?? please advise as to what would be my best option and how to accomplish. thanks a bunch

  • Why can't I create an Alias Resource Record Set for an EC2 instance

    I have been working with AWS for over a year, setting up EC2 instances, domains, ELBs, etc. When I want to assign a subdomain to an EC2 instance, I have to create an elastic IP (that I pay for), then assign a CNAME record to that elastic IP. When I want to assign a subdomain to an ELB (load balancer) instance, I just create an alias resource record set to the ELB. I've read over the docs and don't understand why AWS doesn't support aliasing to instances. Am I missing a key concept here? Wouldn't it be simpler to just alias EC2 instances and skip the whole elastic IP bit?

    On my shared hosting server (Hostmonster) I have django (actually pinax) setup so that a .htaccess mod_rewrite rule rewrites the request to a pinax.fcgi file: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ pinax.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] What I would like to do is have a different pinax.fcgi file get called depending on the domain used (or subdomain), something like this: RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^subdomain\.domain\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ pinax2.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^domain\.com$ [NC] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^(.*)$ pinax.fcgi/$1 [QSA,L] This is stored in a .htaccess file in my ROOT public_html folder (not in the public_html/subdomain/ folder), but unfortunately just results in internal redirect errors. How can I write these rules so that they use a different fcgi file for different domains?
