  • Asp.net Crawler Webresponse Operation Timed out.

    - by Leon
    Hi I have built a simple threadpool based web crawler within my web application. Its job is to crawl its own application space and build a Lucene index of every valid web page and their meta content. Here's the problem. When I run the crawler from a debug server instance of Visual Studio Express, and provide the starting instance as the IIS url, it works fine. However, when I do not provide the IIS instance and it takes its own url to start the crawl process(ie. crawling its own domain space), I get hit by operation timed out exception on the Webresponse statement. Could someone please guide me into what I should or should not be doing here? Here is my code for fetching the page. It is executed in the multithreaded environment. private static string GetWebText(string url) { string htmlText = ""; HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)HttpWebRequest.Create(url); request.UserAgent = "My Crawler"; using (WebResponse response = request.GetResponse()) { using (Stream stream = response.GetResponseStream()) { using (StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(stream)) { htmlText = reader.ReadToEnd(); } } } return htmlText; } And the following is my stacktrace: at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() at CSharpCrawler.Crawler.GetWebText(String url) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\App_Code\CrawlerLibs\Crawler.cs:line 366 at CSharpCrawler.Crawler.CrawlPage(String url, List1 threadCityList) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\App_Code\CrawlerLibs\Crawler.cs:line 105 at CSharpCrawler.Crawler.CrawlSiteBuildIndex(String hostUrl, String urlToBeginSearchFrom, List1 threadCityList) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\App_Code\CrawlerLibs\Crawler.cs:line 89 at crawler_Default.threadedCrawlSiteBuildIndex(Object threadedCrawlerObj) in c:\myAppDev\myApp\site\crawler\Default.aspx.cs:line 108 at System.Threading.QueueUserWorkItemCallback.WaitCallback_Context(Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.runTryCode(Object userData) at System.Runtime.CompilerServices.RuntimeHelpers.ExecuteCodeWithGuaranteedCleanup(TryCode code, CleanupCode backoutCode, Object userData) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.RunInternal(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state) at System.Threading.ExecutionContext.Run(ExecutionContext executionContext, ContextCallback callback, Object state, Boolean ignoreSyncCtx) at System.Threading.QueueUserWorkItemCallback.System.Threading.IThreadPoolWorkItem.ExecuteWorkItem() at System.Threading.ThreadPoolWorkQueue.Dispatch() at System.Threading._ThreadPoolWaitCallback.PerformWaitCallback() Thanks and cheers, Leon.

  • [C#] How can we differentiate between SDK class objects and custom class objects?

    - by Nayan
    To give an idea of my requirement, consider these classes - class A { } class B { string m_sName; public string Name { get { return m_sName; } set { m_sName = value; } } int m_iVal; public int Val { get { return m_iVal; } set { m_iVal = value; } } A m_objA; public A AObject { get { return m_objA; } set { m_objA = value; } } } Now, I need to identify the classes of the objects passed to a function void MyFunc(object obj) { Type type = obj.GetType(); foreach (PropertyInfo pi in type.GetProperties()) { if (pi.PropertyType.IsClass) { //I need objects only if (!type.IsGenericType && type.FullName.ToLower() == "system.string") { object _obj = pi.GetValue(obj, null); //do something } } } } I don't like this piece of code - if (!type.IsGenericType && type.FullName.ToLower() == "system.string") { because then i have to filter out classes like, System.Int16, System.Int32, System.Boolean and so on. Is there an elegant way through which I can find out if the object is of a class defined by me and not of system provided basic classes?

  • In ParallelPython, a method of an object ( object.func() ) fails to manipulate a variable of an object ( object.value )

    - by mehmet.ali.anil
    With parallelpython, I am trying to convert my old serial code to parallel, which heavily relies on objects that have methods that change that object's variables. A stripped example in which I omit the syntax in favor of simplicity: class Network: self.adjacency_matrix = [ ... ] self.state = [ ... ] self.equilibria = [ ... ] ... def populate_equilibria(self): # this function takes every possible value that self.state can be in # runs the boolean dynamical system # and writes an integer within self.equilibria for each self.state # doesn't return anything I call this method as: Code: j1 = jobserver.submit(net2.populate_equilibria,(),(),("numpy as num")) The job is sumbitted, and I know that a long computation takes place, so I speculate that my code is ran. The problem is, i am new to parallelpython , I was expecting that, when the method is called, the variable net2.equilibria would be written accordingly, and I would get a revised object (net2) . That is how my code works, independent objects with methods that act upon the object's variables. Rather, though the computation is apparent, and reasonably timed, the variable net2.equilibria remains unchanged. As if PP only takes the function and the object, computes it elsewhere, but never returns the object, so I am left with the old one. What do I miss? Thanks in advance.

  • What Language Feature Can You Just Not Live Without?

    - by akdom
    I always miss python's built-in doc strings when working in other languages. I know this may seem odd, but it allows me to cut down significantly on excess comments while still providing a clean description of my code and any interfaces therein. What Language Feature Can You Just Not Live Without? If someone were building a new language and they asked you what one feature they absolutely must include, what would it be? This is getting kind of long, so I figured I'd do my best to summarize: Paraphrased to be language agnostic. If you know of a language which uses something mentioned, please at it in the parenthesis to the right of the feature. And if you have a better format for this list, by all means try it out (if it doesn't seem to work, I'll just roll back). • What is the relationship between Turing Machine & Modern Computer ?

    - by smwikipedia
    I heard a lot that modern computers are based on Turing machine. I just cannot build a bridge from a conceptual Turing Machine to a real modern computer. Could someone help me build this bridge? Below is my current understanding. I think the computer is a big general-purpose Turing machine. Each program we write is a small specific-purpose Turing machine. The classical Turing machine do its job based on the input and its current state inside and so do our programs. Let's take a running program (a process) as an example. We know that in the process's address space, there's areas for stack, heap, and code. A classical Turing machine doesn't have the ability to remember many things, so we borrow the concept of stack from the push-down automaton. The heap and stack areas contains the state of our specific-purpose Turing machine (our program). The code area represents the logic of this small Turing machine. And various I/O devices supply input to this Turing machine.

  • Can't access CodeBase from a dynamically generated assembly.

    - by Michael Meadows
    I'm trying to create an assembly dynamically in .Net. I can't seem to figure out how to get the CodeBase property to return a value, however. Here's an example: var assemblyName = new AssemblyName { Name = "Whatever", CodeBase = Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() }; var assemblyBuilder = AppDomain.CurrentDomain .DefineDynamicAssembly(assemblyName, AssemblyBuilderAccess.RunAndSave); var moduleBuilder = assemblyBuilder.DefineDynamicModule("WhateverModule", "Whatever.dll"); var typeBuilder = moduleBuilder.DefineType("WhateverType", TypeAttributes.Public); var type = typeBuilder.CreateType(); assemblyBuilder.Save("Whatever.dll"); var codeBase = type.Assembly.CodeBase; // throws the below exception System.NotSupportedException was unhandled Message=The invoked member is not supported in a dynamic assembly. • Variable field in a constraint annotation

    - by Javi
    Hello, I need to create a custom constraint annotation which can access the value of another field of my bean. I'll use this annotation to validate the field because it depends on the value of the other but the way I define it the compiler says "The value for annotation attribute" of my field "must be a constant expression". I've defined it in this way: @Target(ElementType.FIELD) @Retention(RetentionPolicy.RUNTIME) @Constraint(validatedBy=EqualsFieldValidator.class) @Documented public @interface EqualsField { public String field(); String message() default "{com.myCom.annotations.EqualsField.message}"; Class<?>[] groups() default {}; Class<? extends Payload>[] payload() default {}; } public class EqualsFieldValidator implements ConstraintValidator<EqualsField, String>{ private EqualsField equalsField; @Override public void initialize(EqualsField equalsField) { this.equalsField = equalsField; } @Override public boolean isValid(String thisField, ConstraintValidatorContext arg1) { //my validation } } and in my bean I want something like this: public class MyBean{ private String field1; @EqualsField(field=field1) private String field2; } Is there any way to define the annotation so the field value can be a variable? Thanks

  • Manually Writing the HTML in TWebBrowser Pt. 2

    - by nomad311
    As the name suggests this is a continuation (sort of) of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2784679/manually-writing-the-html-in-twebbrowser This time around I'm trying to add some auto-refresh logic to the HTML I get. I have pieced together an approach from several sources (see below). In short, I am trying to locate the title node and add a meta node after it (in the HTML head node). But, I get an access violation. Here is the source: iHtmlDoc := IHTMLDocument3(WebBrowser1.Document); iHtmlEleTitle := IHTMLElement2(iHtmlDoc.getElementsByName('title').item(0, 0)); iHtmlEle := IHTMLElement2(IHTMLDocument2(iHtmlDoc).createElement(Format('<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="%d">', [1]))); iHtmlEleTitle.insertAdjacentElement('afterEnd', IHTMLElement(iHtmlEle)); And A (technically not functionally) different way of doing it ...casting is slightly different here: IHTMLElement2(IHtmlDocument3(WebBrowser1.Document).getElementsByName('title').item(0, 0)).insertAdjacentElement('afterEnd', IHTMLDocument2(WebBrowser1.Document).createElement(Format('<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="%d">', [VPI_ISSUANCE_AUTO_RELOAD]))); Again all I get from Delphi is a access exception, and I fished through MSDN documentation on it, but now I'm hoping someone out there has gone through the same and has some insight. • How to create a column containing a string of stars to inidcate levels of a factor in a data frame i

  • Active Record two belongs_to calls or single table inheritance

    - by ethyreal
    In linking a sports event to two teams, at first this seemed to make sense: events - id:integer - integer:home_team_id - integer:away_team_id teams - integer:id - string:name However I am troubled by how I would link that up in the active record model: class Event belongs_to :home_team, :class_name => 'Team', :foreign_key => "home_team_id" belongs_to :away_team, :class_name => 'Team', :foreign_key => "away_team_id" end Is that the best solution? In an answer to a similar question I was pointed to single table inheritance, and then later found polymorphic associations. Neither of which seemed to fit this association. Perhaps I am looking at this wrong, but I see no need to subclass a team into home and away teams since the distinction is only in where the game is played. If I did go with single table inheritance I wouldn't want each team to belong_to an event so would this work? # app/models/event.rb class Event < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :home_team belongs_to :away_team end # app/models/team.rb class Team < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :teams end # app/models/home_team.rb class HomeTeam < Team end # app/models/away_team.rb class AwayTeam < Team end I thought also about a has_many through association but that seems two much as I will only ever need two teams, but those two teams don't belong to any one event. event_teams - integer:event_id - integer:team_id - boolean:is_home Is there a cleaner more semantic way for making these associations in active record? or is one of these solutions the best choice? Thanks

  • Proper way to validate model in ASP.NET MVC 2 and ViewModel apporach

    - by adrin
    I am writing an ASP.NET MVC 2 application using NHibernate and repository pattern. I have an assembly that contains my model (business entities), moreover in my web project I want to use flattened objects (possibly with additional properties/logic) as ViewModels. These VMs contain UI-specific metadata (eg. DisplayAttribute used by Html.LabelFor() method). The problem is that I don't know how to implement validation so that I don't repeat myself throughout various tiers (specifically validation rules are written once in Model and propagated to ViewModel). I am using DataAnnotations on my ViewModel but this means no validation rules are imposed on the Model itself. One approach I am considering is deriving ViewModel objects from business entities adding new properties/overriding old ones, thus preserving validation metadata between the two however this is an ugly workaround. I have seen Automapper project which helps to map properties, but I am not sure if it can handle ASP.NET MVC 2 validation metadata properly. Is it difficult to use custom validation framework in asp.net mvc 2? Do you have any patterns that help to preserve DRY in regard to validation?

  • Flash As3 Mute Button problems

    - by Lee
    Hey guys, I am trying to create a UI movie clip that can be used across different scenes. It uses variables from the root scope to determine states. When i press the mute button is works fine, however when i try to un-mute things go weird. Sometimes it takes 2 clicks to unmute, sometimes more. It seems random. Muting however seems to work first time.. Any ideas? Main Timeline: var mute:Boolean = false; var playerName = "Fred"; function setMute(vol) { var sTransform:SoundTransform = new SoundTransform(1,0); sTransform.volume = vol; SoundMixer.soundTransform = sTransform; } function toggleMuteBtn(event:Event) { if (mute) { // Sound On, Mute Off mute = false; setMute(1); ui_mc.muteCross_mc.visible = false; } else { // Sound Off, Mute On mute = true; setMute(0); ui_mc.muteCross_mc.visible = true; } } ui_mc Action Script: if (MovieClip(parent).mute == false) { muteCross_mc.visible = false; } mute_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, MovieClip(parent).toggleMuteBtn);

  • video calling (center)

    - by rrejc
    We are starting to develop a new application and I'm searching for information/tips/guides on application architecture. Application should: read the data from an external (USB) device send the data to the remote server (through internet) receive the data from the remote server perform a video call with to the calling (support) center receive a video call call from the calling (support) center support touch screens In addition: some of the data should also be visible through the web page. So I was thinking about: On the server side: use the database (probably MS SQL) use ORM (nHibernate) to map the data from the DB to the domain objects create a layer with business logic in C# create a web (WCF) services (for client application) create an asp.net mvc application (for item 7.) to enable data view through the browser On the client side I would use WPF 4 application which will communicate with external device and the wcf services on the server. So far so good. Now the problem begins. I have no idea how to create a video call (outgoing or incoming) part of the application. I believe that there is no problem to communicate with microphone, speaker, camera with WPF/C#. But how to communicate with the call center? What protocol and encoding should be used? I think that I will need to create some kind of server which will: have a list of operators in the calling center and track which operator is occupied and which operator is free have a list of connected end users receive incoming calls from end users and delegate call to free operator delegate calls from calling center to the end user Any info, link, anything on where to start would be much appreciated. Many thanks!

  • X++ Coming Out Of QueryRun In Fetch Method

    - by will
    I can't seem to find the resolution for this. I have modified the Fetch method in a report, so that if the queryRun is changed, and the new ID is fetched, then the while loop starts over and a new page appears and 2 elements are executed. This part works fine, the next part does not, in each ID there are several Records which I am using Element.Execute(); and element.Send(); to process. What happens is, the first ID is selected, the element (body) of the reports is executed and the element is sent as expected, however the while loop does not go onto the next ID? Here is the code; public boolean fetch() { APMPriorityId oldVanId, newVanId; LogisticsControlTable lLogisticsControlTable; int64 cnt, counter; ; queryRun = new QueryRun(this); if (!queryRun.prompt() || !element.prompt()) { return false; } while (queryRun.next()) { if (queryRun.changed(tableNum(LogisticsControlTable))) { lLogisticsControlTable = queryRun.get(tableNum(LogisticsControlTable)); if (lLogisticsControlTable) { info(lLogisticsControlTable.APMPriorityId); cnt = 0; oldVanId = newVanId; newVanId = lLogisticsControlTable.APMPriorityId; if(newVanId) { element.newPage(); element.execute(1); element.execute(2); } } if (lLogisticsControlTable.APMPriorityId) select count(recId) from lLogisticsControlTable where lLogisticsControlTable.APMPriorityId == newVanId; counter = lLogisticsControlTable.RecId; while select lLogisticsControlTable where lLogisticsControlTable.APMPriorityId == newVanId { cnt++; if(lLogisticsControlTable.APMPriorityId == newVanId && cnt <= counter) { element.execute(3); element.send(lLogisticsControlTable); } } } } return true; }

  • Is an "infinite" iterator bad design?

    - by Adamski
    Is it generally considered bad practice to provide Iterator implementations that are "infinite"; i.e. where calls to hasNext() always(*) return true? Typically I'd say "yes" because the calling code could behave erratically, but in the below implementation hasNext() will return true unless the caller removes all elements from the List that the iterator was initialised with; i.e. there is a termination condition. Do you think this is a legitimate use of Iterator? It doesn't seem to violate the contract although I suppose one could argue it's unintuitive. public class CyclicIterator<T> implements Iterator<T> { private final List<T> l; private Iterator it; public CyclicIterator<T>(List<T> l) { this.l = l; this.it = l.iterator(); } public boolean hasNext() { return !l.isEmpty(); } public T next() { T ret; if (!hasNext()) { throw new NoSuchElementException(); } else if (it.hasNext()) { ret = it.next(); } else { it = l.iterator(); ret = it.next(); } return ret; } public void remove() { it.remove(); } }

  • How do you think while formulating Sql Queries. Is it an experience or a concept ?

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I have been working on sql server and front end coding and have usually faced problem formulating queries. I do understand most of the concepts of sql that are needed in formulating queries but whenever some new functionality comes into the picture that can be dont using sql query, i do usually fails resolving them. I am very comfortable with select queries using joins and all such things but when it comes to DML operation i usually fails For every query that i never done before I usually finds uncomfortable with that while creating them. Whenever I goes for an interview I usually faces this problem. Is it their some concept behind approaching on formulating sql queries. Eg. I need to create an sql query such that A table contain single column having duplicate record. I need to remove duplicate records. I know i can find the solution to this query very easily on Googling, but I want to know how everyone comes to the desired result. Is it something like Practice Makes Man Perfect i.e. once you did it, next time you will be able to formulate or their is some logic or concept behind. I could have get my answer of solving above problem simply by posting it on stackoverflow and i would have been with an answer within 5 to 10 minutes but I want to know the reason. How do you work on any new kind of query. Is it a major contribution of experience or some an implementation of concepts. Whenever I learns some new thing in coding section I tries to utilize it wherever I can use it. But here scenario seems to be changed because might be i am lagging in some concepts.

  • using Autofac in a multi-layered architecture

    - by Kamyar
    I'm fairly new to the DI/IoC concept and would like to use Autofac in a 3-layered ASP.NET Webforms application. UI layer: An ASP.NET webforms website. BLL: Business logic layer which calls the repositories on DAL. DAL: .EDMX file (Entity Model) and ObjectContext with Repository classes which abstract the CRUD operations for each entity. Entities: The POCO Entities. Persistence Ignorant. Generated by Microsoft's ADO.Net POCO Entity Generator. I have asked a more general question here. Basically, I'd like to create an obejctcontext per HttpContext in my DAL. But i don't want to add a reference to DAL in UI or access to HttpContext in DAL directly. I guess this is where IoC tools come to play. The answer to my previous question is a very good example of using Windsor Castle. I'd like to use Autofac as my IoC tool and Don't know how to achieve this. (How to access DAL in application_start to register the component while I don't want to reference it in my UI, what are the proper references to be able to use DAL component in BLL with Autofac, Should I register BLL as a component with Autofac too) Sorry folks for not providing an explicit question and requesting a kind of working example, But I'm very unfamiliar to the whole IoC concept and I don't think I can achieve it to use in my current time-limited project.

  • flash as3 document class and event listeners

    - by Lee
    I think i have this document class concept entirly wrong now, i was wondering if someone mind explaining it.. I assumed that the above class would be instantiated within the first frame on scene one of a movie. I also assumed that when changing scenes the state of the class would remain constant so any event listeners would still be running.. Scene 1: I have a movieclip named ui_mc, that has a button in for muting sound. Scene 2: I have the same movie clip with the same button. Now the eventListener picks it up in the first scene, however it does not in the second. I am wondering for every scene do the event listeners need to be resetup? If that is the case if their an event listener to listen for the change in scene, so i can set them back up again lol.. • JLabel not greyed out when disabled, when HTML text displayed

    - by bguiz
    How do I get a JLabel displaying a HTML string to appear greyed out (which is the behaviour of JLabels that don't display HTML text)? Is there another way than actually changing the colour myself by modifying the foreground property? JLabel label1 = new JLabel("Normal text"); JLabel label2 = new JLabel("<html>HTML <b>text</b>"); // Both labels are now black in colour label1.setEnabled(false); label2.setEnabled(false); // label1 is greyed out, label2 is still black in colour Thank you very much for all of your responses. From what I gather, it seems that Java doesn't support automatic greying out of JLabels when they use HTML text. Suraj's solution has come closest to the fix considering the limitations. I have however, tried a different out-of-the box approach, where I have put the HTML text JLabels inside of an inner JPanel and did this: mInnerPanel.setEnabled(shouldShow); //shouldShow is a boolean value Which hasn't worked. Any suggestions for this way? EDIT: Added implemented solution.

  • svn import, dont modify revision OR modify the list of files in a transaction

    - by Vaughan Durno
    Hi Ive gained so much knowledge/insight from this site in the past few years, now im actually hoping to get some enlightenment. The scenario is as follows: You have the general structure of the repo (trunk,branches,tags) but added to the layout you have another directory called 'db_revs'. Now in the pre-commit, you take a dump of a specific database (the specifics are irrelevant) into a temporary file, say /tmp/REV.sql (REV being the HEAD revision number of the repo, or the transaction). K all is well and you can just import that temp file into the repo at /db_revs/REV.sql Now obviously that import, even tho its happening during a commit, increments the revision of the repo. So when u do a commit at some point to say 'test.php' in the trunk and it completes at say revision 159, then the pre-commit runs as it should and the DB dump gets imported but then u r sitting with a tree in the repo-browser where 'trunk' is at revision 159, and 'db_revs', which has the imported dump, is at 158 (Ive made it so that the filename matches the revision ie: 159.sql but that file is then at revision 158). NB If you're doing an import in a pre-commit, you need to add some logic to not perform the import, say by checking first for the existence of the temp file, otherwise it will cause, um, a stack overflow and your PC will quickly crawl to a stand still So I wanted to know if it was possible to make an import to not commit its changes. I realise I might be barking up the wrong tree to begin with so I have another idea of doing this so that brings me to the 2nd part of my question, would it be possible to modify the list of files that the transaction is about to commit to the repo. I know this can be done to a WC but that wont help as a WC is a checked out copy of say the trunk so im not sure how u would add a file to the 'db_revs' folder which is above trunk? Any help is greatly appreciated Cheers Vaughan

  • function (blurClass) NOT WORKING IN IE

    - by Erik
    I can't get this plugin to function properly in IE.... Check out my homepage and look at the huge search field toward the top... www.naturalskin.com Whenever I refresh the screen the "blur" looses its function and I'm stuck with text..... Here is the script that I place in an external js page: http://www.naturalskin.com/src/js/javascript/batches.js jQuery.fn.hint = function (blurClass) { if (!blurClass) { blurClass = 'blur'; } return this.each(function () { // get jQuery version of 'this' var $input = jQuery(this), // capture the rest of the variable to allow for reuse title = $input.attr('title'), $form = jQuery(this.form), $win = jQuery(window); function remove() { if ($input.val() === title && $input.hasClass(blurClass)) { $input.val('').removeClass(blurClass); } } // only apply logic if the element has the attribute if (title) { // on blur, set value to title attr if text is blank $input.blur(function () { if (this.value === '') { $input.val(title).addClass(blurClass); } }).focus(remove).blur(); // now change all inputs to title // clear the pre-defined text when form is submitted $form.submit(remove); $win.unload(remove); // handles Firefox's autocomplete } }); }; Erik

  • How do I begin reading source code?

    - by anonnoir
    I understand the value of reading source code, and I am trying my best to read as much as I can. However, every time I try getting into a 'large' (i.e. complete) project of sorts, I am overwhelmed. For example, I use Anki a lot when revising languages. Also, I'm interested in getting to know how an audio player works (because I have some project ideas), hence quodlibet on Google Code. But whenever I open the source code folders for the above programs, there are just so many files that I don't know where or what to begin with. I think that I should start with files marked init.py but I can't see the logical structure of the programs, or what reasoning was applied when the original writer divided his modules the way he did. Hence, my questions: How/where should I begin reading source? Any general tips or ideas? How does a programmer keep in mind the overall structure and logic of the program, especially for large projects, and is it common not to document that structure? As an open source reader, must I look through all of the code and get a bird's eye view of the code and libraries, before even being able to proceed? Would an IDE like Eclipse SDK (with PyDev) help with code-reading? Thanks for the help; I really appreciate your helping me.

  • Entity Framework Custom Query Function

    - by Josh
    I have an Entity Framework 4.0 Entity Object called Revision w/ Nullable DateEffectiveFrom and DateEffectiveTo dates. I was wondering if there was a short-hand way of querying an object's RevisionHistory based on a particular QueryDate date instead of having to use the following query structure: var results = EntityObject.Revisions.Where(x => (x.DateEffectiveFrom == null && x.DateEffectiveTo == null) || (x.DateEffectiveFrom == null && x.DateEffectiveTo >= QueryDate) || (x.DateEffectiveFrom <= QueryDate && x.DateEffectiveTo == null) || (x.DateEffectiveFrom <= QueryDate && x.DateEffectiveTo >= QueryDate)); I've tried creating the following boolean function in the Revision class: partial class Revision { public bool IsEffectiveOn(DateTime date) { return (x.DateEffectiveFrom == null && x.DateEffectiveTo == null) || (x.DateEffectiveFrom == null && x.DateEffectiveTo >= date) || (x.DateEffectiveFrom <= date && x.DateEffectiveTo == null) || (x.DateEffectiveFrom <= date && x.DateEffectiveTo >= date)); } ... } And then updating the query to: var results = EntityObject.Revisions.Where(x => x.IsEffectiveOn(QueryDate)); but this obviously doesn't translate to SQL. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
