  • Best way to detect duplicates when using Spring Hibernate Template

    - by Dean Povey
We have an application which needs to detect duplicates in certain fields on create. We are using Hibernate as our persistence layer and using Spring's HibernateTemplate. My question is whether it is better to do so an upfront lookup for the item before creating, or to attempt to catch the DataIntegrityViolation exception and then check if this is caused by a duplicate entry.

  • Storing year/make/model in a database?

    - by Mark
Here's what I'm thinking (excuse the Django format): class VehicleMake(Model): name = CharField(max_length=50) class VehicleModel(Model): make = ForeignKey(VehicleMake) name = CharField(max_length=50) class VehicleYear(Model): model = ForeignKey(VehicleModel) year = PositiveIntegerField() This is going to be used in those contingent drop-down select boxes, which would visually be laid out like [- Year -][- Make -][- Model -]. So, to query the data I need I would first have to select all distinct years from the years table, sorted descending. Then I'd find all the vehicle makes that have produced a model in that year. And then all the models by that make in that year. Is this a good way to do it, or should I re-arrange the foreign keys somehow? Or use a many-to-many table for the years/models so that no year is repeated?

  • Spring Transactional Parameterized Test and Autowiring

    - by James Kingsbery
    Is there a way to get a class that extends AbstractTransactionalJUnit4SpringContexts to play nicely with JUnit's own @RunWith(Parameterized), so that fields marked as Autowired get wired in properly? @RunWith(Parameterized) public class Foo extends AbstractTransactionalJUnit4SpringContexts { @Autowired private Bar bar @Parameters public static Collection data() { // return parameters, following pattern in // http://junit.org/apidocs/org/junit/runners/Parameterized.html } @Test public void someTest(){ bar.baz() //NullPointerException } }

  • Is it okay to use <input type="tel"/> now?

    - by Michael
I'm working on a mobile phone web app and I have several text fields that could benefit from iPhone's will adjust the keyboard for the user but I'm worried about breaking backwards compatability. What I'm hoping is that browsers/phone that support this can assist the user and other browser will fall back to a standard text field? Is this an acceptable practice? Does it even work?

  • Creating a structure from bytes with ctypes and IronPython

    - by Adal
I have the following CPython code which I now try to run in IronPython: import ctypes class BarHeader(ctypes.Structure): _fields_ = [ ("id", ctypes.c_char * 4), ("version", ctypes.c_uint32)] bar_file = open("data.bar", "rb") header_raw = bar_file.read(ctypes.sizeof(BarHeader)) header = BarHeader.from_buffer_copy(header_raw) The last line raises this exception: TypeError: expected array, got str I tried BarHeader.from_buffer_copy(bytes(header_raw)) instead of the above, but then the exception message changes to TypeError: expected array, got bytes. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

  • Refactoring many nested ifs or chained if statements

    - by Icarus
Hi, I have an object with large number of similar fields (like more than 10 of them) and I have to assign them values from an array of variable length. The solution would be either a huge nested bunch of ifs based on checking length of array each time and assigning each field OR a chain of ifs checking on whether the length is out of bounds and assigning each time after that check. Both seem to be repetitive. Is there a better solution ?

  • What is a Web Framework ? How does it compare with LAMP

    - by Nishant
I started web development in LAMP/WAMP and it was logical to me . There is a Web Server program called Apache which does the networking part of setting up a service on port 80 ( common port ) . If the request is regular HTML it uses the HTTP headers to transport files .And if the request for the file is a PHP one , it has a mod_php with which Apache invokes the PHP interpreter to process the file and it gives back HTML which is again transferred as usual HTML . Now the question is what is a Web Framework ? I came across Python based website creation and there is Flask . What is a flask , how does it compare with LAMP . Further are DJango / Ruby on Rails different from flask ? Can someone answer me and also give some good places to read on these .Thanks for your answers in advance . Further is things like LAMP slower than the common FRAMEWORKS because they claimn easy deplyment fo web apps .

  • Problem to focus JTextField

    - by Tom Brito
I have used the approach of the ComponentListener to call focus in JTextField within a dialog, but for this case is just not working, I don't know why. It shows the focus in the text field and fast change to the button. Run and see: import java.awt.Component; import java.awt.GridLayout; import java.awt.event.ComponentEvent; import java.awt.event.ComponentListener; import javax.swing.JDialog; import javax.swing.JLabel; import javax.swing.JOptionPane; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.JPasswordField; import javax.swing.JTextField; public class User { private String username = ""; private String password = ""; public User() { // default constructor } public User(String username, String password) { this.username = username; this.password = password; } /** Create a panel containing the componet and tha label. */ public JPanel createLabeledComponent(JLabel label, Component comp) { GridLayout layout = new GridLayout(2, 1); JPanel panel = new JPanel(layout); panel.add(label); panel.add(comp); label.setLabelFor(comp); return panel; } public void showEditDialog() { JLabel usernameLbl = new JLabel(username); final JTextField usernameField = new JTextField(); usernameField.setText(username); JPanel usernamePnl = createLabeledComponent(usernameLbl, usernameField); JLabel passwordLbl = new JLabel(password); JPasswordField passwordField = new JPasswordField(password); JPanel passwordPnl = createLabeledComponent(passwordLbl, passwordField); Object[] fields = { "User:", usernamePnl, "Password:", passwordPnl }; JOptionPane optionPane = new JOptionPane(fields, JOptionPane.PLAIN_MESSAGE, JOptionPane.OK_CANCEL_OPTION, null, null); JDialog dialog = optionPane.createDialog("User Data"); dialog.addComponentListener(new ComponentListener() { public void componentShown(ComponentEvent e) { usernameField.requestFocusInWindow(); } public void componentResized(ComponentEvent e) {} public void componentMoved(ComponentEvent e) {} public void componentHidden(ComponentEvent e) {} }); dialog.setVisible(true); } public static void main(String[] args) { new User().showEditDialog(); } } Any idea how to solve this?

  • code style for private methods in c#

    - by illdev
I just found out, that it seems a common pattern to user UpperFirstLetterPascalCase() for private methods. I for myself, find this completely inconsistent with naming rules of private instance fields and variables and I find it difficult to read/debug, too. I would want to ask, why using a first upper letter for methods could be a better choice than a first lower (doThis())? Just out of curiosity...

  • Are there Python ORMs out there that support multiple independent databases concurrently in use?

    - by sdt
I'm writing an application in Python where I wish to use sqlite as the backing store for documents edited by the app, with documents generally living in memory, but being saved to disk-based databases when the application saves. Ideally I'd like to use something like an ORM to make access to the data from my Python application code simple. Unfortunately it seems like the majority of Python ORMs, including SQLAlchemy, SQLObject, Django, and Storm, associate the database connection (or engine or whatever) with the classes representing table data, rather than instances of those classes. This restricts these ORMs to working with a single database connection across all instances. Since I'd like to support having multiple documents open simultaneously, this isn't going to work for me. Are there any ORMs out there that support this usage model in Python? Bazaar seems to support this, but it's quite out of date, and at first glance appears to have some other shortcomings. Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Object slicing in Java.

    - by ferrari fan
Can you take a subclass object and somehow convert it to an object of the same type as the parent class and at the same time slicing all the fields that are not part of the parent class? I know you can do this in C++, but I have no idea how to do it in Java.

  • How to set and get the id for the items in the spinner in Android

    - by Haresh Chaudhary
    I have a problem in my project that i am displaying a activity which would contain the details of the project which is previously added in Project Management System.. Now the fields in it are like: Fields of the Activity Name Of Project: ABC(EditText) Name Of Developer : ________(Spinner) Deadline : ________(Date Picker) Created On : _______(TextView) . . Now, the Spinner contains the Names of all developers working in the Company..I have used the ArrayAdapter with a array having the names of all the developers which is fetched from the database.. The problem is that when i update the Name Of Developer field, i get Only the Name of the Developer which is not enough to update the data as their can be multiple developers with the same name in the Company..So now I require the id of the developers to update it.. How to store that id of the developers with the Spinner so that i can achieve this.. Please help me to sort this out. Actually what i want to do like is as that we do in html:: <select> <option id="1">Developer1</option> <option id="2">Developer2</option> <option id="3">Developer2</option> <option id="4">Developer2</option> </select> where the id attached would be the database id....I want to imitate this in our android.... This the code that i have used to store the names in the array:: String alldevelopers = null; try { ArrayList<NameValuePair> postP = new ArrayList<NameValuePair>(); alldevelopers = CustomHttpClient.executeHttpPost( "/fetchdevelopers.php", postP); String respcl = alldevelopers.toString(); alldevelopersParser dev = new alldevelopersParser(); ow = dev.parseByDOM(respcl); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } String developers[] = new String[ow.length]; //dev is a class object for (int n = 0; n < ow.length; n++) { developers[n] = ow.developer[n][2]; } This is the Spinner that would spin the array.. final Spinner devl = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.towner); devl.setOnItemSelectedListener(managetasks.this); ArrayAdapter<String> b = new ArrayAdapter<String>getApplicationContext(), android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item,developers); b.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_dropdown_item_1line); devl.setAdapter(b);

  • Entities equals(), hashCode() and toString(). How to correctly implement them?

    - by spike07
I'm implementing equals(), hashCode() and toString() of my entities using all the available fields in the bean. I'm getting some Lazy init Exception on the frontend when I try to compare the equality or when I print the obj state. That's because some list in the entity can be lazy initialized. I'm wondering what's the correct way to for implementing equals() and toString() on an entity object.

  • Light and simple bugtracker for a small team

    - by Varnenchik
I'm looking for a simple and light tool for tracking ideas and bugs for small physics lab team (4 members). Bugzilla and Trac have too much fields and other stuff for us. I don’t think that we need more than issue descriptions and simple categorization. But we are not happy with text and excel files suggested here. Could you please advise me anything easy to install preferably?
