  I am building a application that allow different user to store the subscriber information To store the subscriber information , the user first create a list For each list, there is a ListID. Subscriber may have different attribute : email phone fax .... For each list, their setting is different , so a require_attribute table is introduced. It is a bridge between subscriber and List That store Listid ,subid , attribute, datatype That means the system have a lot of list, each user have their own list, and the list have different attribute, some list have email , phone , some may have phone, address, name mail.. And the datatype is different, some may use 'name' as integer , some may use 'name' as varchar attribute means email phone, it is to define for which list have which subscriber attribute datatype means for each attribute, what is its datatype Table :subscriber : Field :subid , name,email Table :Require Attribute: Field : Listid ,subid , attribute, datatype The attribute here is {name, email} So a simple data is Subscriber: 1 , MYname, Myemail Require Attribute : Listid , 1 , 'email', 'intger' Listid , 1 , 'name', 'varchar' I found that this kind of storage is too complex too handle with, Since the subscriber is share to every body, so if a person want to change the datatype of name, it will also affect the data of the other user. • Thunderbird keeps crashing Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit

  I have been using Thunderbird for years under different versions of Ubuntu, including 12.04 since its release. From a couple of days it keeps crashing after a few seconds after start. I tried to reinstall it creating a new profile and copying the old mail, file by file. After one day of normal functioning it started again to crash. Mozilla is receiving the crash reports. • How to clear unshown OSD notifications

  I am a webmaster of 2 active websites. Every time I start Thunderbird, it downloads all the new messages from the admin mail addresses of these sites - [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], etc. There are about 20 of them - this includes my personal email accounts. Now, am not always connected to the internet and there arises cases where I need to access already downloaded mails. Thunderbird then tries to connect to the internet, which it can't coz am offline, and then displays about twenty OSD notifications, one after the other, telling me that connection for each email address has failed. That's frustrating and it really eating me up. Am looking for a way, either: 1. To tell Thunderbird NOT to connect to the internet when am offline, or 2. To clear all these notifications after like the first one shows. And if it will help, am using ubuntu 13.04 and Thunderbird 24.0 and I always keep my computer fully updated. Any help is welcome. • User Switching in XFCE 12.04 with LightDM and dumping unneeccesary Gnome libs

  I'm an elder non-techie Mac-to-Linux convert trying to play the linux tech game by ear, so please be gentle! :) I am running XFCE Ubuntu 12.04 totally on a 8-gig flash drive and it's fantastic. I am starting to run into potential space issues (down to 1.0 gig free from 1.9 gigs since being installed last summer), most likely because of growing Thunderbird mail files, and this prompted my question. I just installed lightDM on my system because I want the ability to switch users in XFCE if I follow instructions on another blog. They advised using LightDM instead of GDM because LightDM doesn't download Gnome libraries. That's great since I need the space, but my question is how can I tell whether I don't already have Gnome libraries installed from other updates and such? And can I minimize having any Gnome libraries? The method for me to switch users entails creating a "fast-user-switch" file in /usr/local/bin; is there any easier way? One last thing so I din't have topen another needless thread; while experimenting I somehow lost the share folder in one of my accounts. Is there any way to get a share folder back? • What tools and knowledge do I need to create an application which generates bespoke automated e-mails? [on hold]

  I'd like some suggestions as to how to best go about creating an application which can generate bespoke automated e-mails- i.e. send a personalized reply to a particular individual, interpreting the context of the message as intelligently as possible... (This is perhaps too big a question to be under one title?) What would be a good starting point? What concepts do I need to know? I'd imagine that the program needs to be able trawl through e-mails as and when they come in, and search for keywords in e-mail content, in order to write an appropriate reply. So there needs to be some form of automated response embedded in the code. Machine learning and databases come to mind here, as I'm aware that google incorporates machine learning already in gmail etc. It is quite tricky to google the above topic, and find the perfect tutorial. But there are some interesting articles and papers out there: Machine Learning in Automated Text Categorization (2002) by Fabrizio Sebastiani , Consiglio Nazionale Delle Ricerche However, this is not exactly a quick start guide. I intend to add to this question, and no doubt other questions will spark off this one. I look forward to suggestions.

• How To Figure Out Your PC’s Host Name From the Command Prompt

  If you’re doing any work with networking, you probably need to know the name of your computer. Rather than diving into Control Panel, there’s a really simple way to do this from the command prompt. Note: If you haven’t already, be sure to read our complete guide to networking Windows 7 with XP and Vista. To see the hostname… all you have to do is type hostname at the command prompt. Go figure, eh? The same thing works in Linux or OS X, though you can see that most of the time the hostname is part of the prompt anyway. Note: you can also change the hostname by simply typing “hostname <newhostname>”. Of course, the easiest way to see your computer name in Windows is to just hit the Win+Break key combination, which will pop up the System pane from Control Panel.   If you want to change it instead, you can always change your computer name easily through Control Panel. • Acer Aspire One 725 - missing graphic card driver for Radeon HD 6290?

  Recently I bought an Acer Aspire One 725 Netbook and installed Ubuntu 12.10 on it. I bought it, because it can run HD movies and has Full HD on external VGA port. However, movies from youtube have a really slow framerate. If you open three tabs in Opera (for example g-mail, youtube and askubuntu) it gets really laggy. My suspicion is that the driver for graphic card is missing. When I check the System->Details->Graphics the driver is unknown. After running lspci | grep VGA I get this output: 00:01.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Device 980a From what I see, I have a AMD C70 processor integrated with (or something similar) AMD Radeon HD 6290. Has anyone had the same problem? Do you know which drivers need to be installed for the graphics to work properly? On official Acer page there are only drivers for Win7 and Win8... • Good links somehow being converted to ones with a PHP redirect (not a virus)

  This has happened to links we put on web pages and in emails. We might put www.oursite.org/work/ but when I view source it shows up as webmail.ourhosting.ca/hwebmail/services/go.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.oursite.org%2F%2work%2F This ends up at the webmail login page for our web host. But only some of the people who click the link get the login page; others go directly to the original page we intended. We don't want it to go to the webmail login page, nobody needs to log in to our web site. This occurs for links to pages on our site, but also to links to other sites that we put in emails or in posts. It seems to be browser independent as well as e-mail client independent as we variously have used Firefox and Chrome as well as MS Outlook and Thunderbird. I've tried to resolve the issue with our webhost but they keep telling me they don't support our browser, or our email client (i.e., they don't understand the issue). At the moment, our only option is to try another web host just to get rid of their login. Any ideas about what's going on?

This complicated the review process and made conversations isolated and difficult to track. For this release, we’ve added functionality that enables you to have those same conversations within the pull request page. When you view a pull request, you’ll now see “Comments” and “Changes” tabs, with current comments displayed. Inline Diff Enhancements We tweaked the inline diff experience to make it easier to traverse diff blocks. When you open up the inline diff experience, you’ll now see up and down arrows. To move between the diff blocks, you can use those arrows or utilize the available keyboard shortcuts. Lastly, we have also brought the inline diff experience to the source control changes page for project and fork changesets. • install clamav from surceforge

  I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I'm affraid I've installed a virus on my computer (I've clicked a link which was a virus), I'd prefere to check if everything is fine. I've installed clamAV using Synaptic. The installed version was 0.96.5, while the most recent version is 0.97.6. When I was trying to update virus database, I got a warning that the version of clamAV I'm using is outdated. Since I didn't know how to update the software by Synaptic or apt (both show the installed version as the newest) I've uninstalled all and downloaded the recent version from sourceforge. I've unpacked the tar.gz archive, entered the folder but when I type ./configure I'm getting the message: configure: error: Please install zlib and zlib-devel packages When I type sudo aptitude install zlib zlib-devel The terminal output says there is no such packages (there is no package zlib-devel and there is many packages which name contain zlib). I suppose the link contained probably the Windows virus, but I'd prefere to make sure there is nothing in my computer. As well as I'm not sure if the virus, even without harming my system, can send itself to my e-mail contacts or not.

• More Tables or More Databases?

  I got an e-mail from someone that has an interesting situation. He has 15,000 customers, and he asks if he should have a database for their data per customer. Without a LOT more data it’s impossible to say, of course, but there are some general concepts to keep in mind. Whenever you’re segmenting data, it’s all about boundary choices. You have not only boundaries around how big the data will get, but things like how many objects (tables, stored procedures and so on) that will be involved, if there are any cross-sections of data (do they share location or product information) and – very important – what are the security requirements? From the answer to these types of questions, you now have the choice of making multiple tables in a single database, or using multiple databases. A database carries some overhead – it needs a certain amount of memory for locking and so on. But it has a very clean boundary – everything from objects to security can be kept apart. Having multiple users in the same database is possible as well, using things like a Schema. But keeping 15,000 schemas can be challenging as well. My recommendation in complex situations like this is similar to a post on decisions that I did earlier – I lay out the choices on a spreadsheet in rows, and then my requirements at the top in the columns. I  give each choice a number based on how well it meets each requirement. At the end, the highest number wins. And many times it’s a mix – perhaps this person could segment customers into larger regions or districts or products, in a database. Within that database might be multiple schemas for the customers. • fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 using usb stick booted into tty1?

  I just installed ubuntu 12.04 alternate for the first time to give it a try using a usb stick burned with UnetBootIn. It installed without a problem. But it booted into a tty1 console without booting into a GUI. after loging into the tty1 console i typed 'unity'. it appeared that the system doesn't have unity desktop !!! How can it be solved ? My installation didn't show any error. Something worth mentioning: 1. during installation i had to choose an option saying 'customize the system to your needs' something like that i don't remember correctly with options 'SSH server','Mail Server', 'Ubuntu Desktop',.....,'Manual selection of packages' etc. I chose 'Ubuntu Desktop'. I haven't encountered something like this in ubuntu 11.04. to do an installation of alternate iso using UnetBootIn i used '12.04_Hdmedia' option of that software and had to change file extension of .ude to .udeb in /pool/main/l/linux that i found in Alternate ubuntu cdrom detect to go around with the cdrom detection problem. I have a 945G intel graphics.

• Sending Emails from existing SMTP host from Ubuntu Server

  I feel like my problem is very simple, but I've been trying for quite some time and haven't cracked it. You experienced server guys will probably laugh at this, but I'm finally at the point I need help or I'll never get anywhere. I have a little box running 12.04 LTS and I've wanted to script some status checks and have the server send me an email and schedule this with cron. I basically want a command line mail client that I can set up as easily as Thunderbird to send through my existing SMTP through the command line. Something that can easily be rolled into my bash scripts. I already have a remote host handling our email, SMTP, MTA, all that garbage. I don't particularly want to set up a relay just to send email when I have one that everyone else in the company already uses. I've tried, but there are too many aspects I don't understand AND I don't see why I should set up something local when we already pay for a remote host to do these things. If I absolutely have to set up sendmail or postfix, then so be it, but I'd appreciate a simple alternative. I'm open to practically anything at this point.

• How to go about designing an intermediate routing filter program to accept input and forward accordingly?

  My predicament: I designed an app, written in Python, to read my mail and check for messages that contain a certain digital signature. It opens these and looks for keywords. If the message contains these keywords, certain related functions area executed on the computer. It is a way I can control my computer from my cell phone without being there. I am still in the beginning stages and it can only currently remotely open and close applications/processes. The obvious issue is security risks. I hoped to spearhead that by requiring and checking for that digital signature. However, my issue comes when I'd like to make this program usable by multiple users. The idea is that the user will send keywords: username and password, for instance, to log into their personal email account and send messages to it to be parsed. Please ignore the security implications of sending non-encoded passwords through email. (Though if you could help me on that part I'd much appreciate it as well, but currently, that is not the scope of my question.) My issue is designing an intermediary process that will take an email/password to read an email and scan for those keywords. The issue is, that the program has to be accessing an email to read the email for the username/password! I have got myself into a loop and cannot figure out how to have this required intermediary program. I could just create an arbitrary email account and have that check for login-creds, but is there a better way of doing this than that? Also, is there a better way of communicating with a computer remotely than this? Especially if the computer is not a server and is behind a router with only a subnet ip? If I am asking this question in the wrong place, I deeply apologize. Any help would be much appreciated!

• SQL Server Configuration Scripting Utility Release 9

  There’s another update to my little utility to script a SQL Server’s configuration.  I use this for two purposes.  First, I use it to keep my database mirroring servers up to date.  Second, I capture the output in a version control system and keep that for historical reference. In release 3.0.9 I made the following changes: Rewrote the encrypted trigger scripting.  It will now list the encrypted triggers in a comment in the table script but can’t actually script them. It now scripts any server event notifications. You can script a single database using the /scriptdb flag.  Please note that it will also script the instance and system databases when it does this. It will script any user-defined endpoints.  This will capture your mirroring endpoints and more importantly any service broker endpoints. It will gracefully skip database mail on the Express Edition. It still doesn’t support SQL Server 2012.  I think that’s the next feature to add though.

• Fresh install of 12.04 using USB stick booted into tty1

  I just installed 12.04 Alternate for the first time to give it a try using a USB stick burned with UnetBootIn. It installed without a problem. But it booted into a tty1 console without booting into a GUI. After logging into the tty1 console, I typed unity. It appeared that the system doesn't have unity desktop. How can it be solved? My installation didn't show any error. Something worth mentioning: During installation, I had to choose an option saying 'customize the system to your needs' something like that I don't remember correctly with options 'SSH server','Mail Server', 'Ubuntu Desktop',.....,'Manual selection of packages' etc. I chose 'Ubuntu Desktop'. I haven't encountered something like this in 11.04. To do an installation of Alternate iso using UnetBootIn, i used '12.04_Hdmedia' option of that software and had to change file extension of .ude to .udeb in /pool/main/l/linux that i found in Alternate ubuntu cdrom detect to go around with the cdrom detection problem. I have a 945G intel graphics.

• What version was installed? x64 or i686? What's the difference exactly?

  Okay, so heres my problem. I recently started migrating several services to individual VMs on my box, using VirtualBox 4.1. I created a new VirtualBox VM with guest type "Ubuntu (64 Bit)". I've already done this before and it worked like a charm. I then installed unbutu server (12.04) from the exact same dvd image. All the time I thought that it should have installed x64. I already put a few hours work into the new VM, migrating the webserver and mail system etc. Today I tried installing a x64 piece of software and it suddenly told me that it needed x64 and I had only i686. I checked uname -a and this is what it gave me: Linux hostname 3.2.0-29-generic-pae #46-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 27 17:25:43 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Any guesses what went wrong? All the time I was thinking I had a x64 system. Any way to move to a "real" x64? I have a second VM on this host which is running x64 just fine .. P.S.: grep --color=always -iw lm /proc/cpuinfo returns lm among the flags.

• Thunderbird: "Could not initialize the application's security component" [closed]

  In Thunderbird, on startup, I get the error message: "Could not initialize the application's security component" The message continues to check permissions of the profile, and free disk space. df -h shows, that I have 19G free disk space. find . -not -perm -644 -not -perm -600 -ls shows: No file without rw-permissions for me. Before the error occured, thunderbird worked well. But I changed my main mail-account. I had two, let's call them A and B, and used mainly A, but now I wanted to deaktivate it, and receive and send automatically via the second. I Had problems moving the filters from inbox A to inbox B (missing copy-functionality). In the web, I found (mollazine) hints, to move key3.db, cert8.db and secmode.db out of the way, but it didn't work for me. Another hint was to uninstall Quickcam(?. sic!), but I don't have Quickcam. A third to recreate the profile, but I have subdirectories, filters, addressbook, groups - mails back to the year 2003. I don't want to risk the loss of data. The whole errormessage is: Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features. When I open the error-console, it is empty.

• Web-Service: How much would you charge? [closed]

  I´ve to make an offer to a client who wants me to develope a web-service for him. I have some trouble calculating the pricing - can you help me? Here is a rough outline of the project: It´s a portal on which various artists and entertainers can register and administrate there profile (texts, gallerie, some embedded videos, choose categories and radius of offer, etc). Other user can browse the artists by 3-4 level categories and countries/staats. If someone wants to hire a artists, he can put them in an "shopping-basket" and can mail everyone in his basket. The Artists can answer them with a form on the website (he doesn't get the email of the other person). Users should be able to comment/rate the artists. But if an artists wants this comments/ratings visible on his profile he must pay, and after that, the admin of the site must activate this comments/ratings. So, no more information given, what would you charge (ca.)? Edit: It´ll be developed with php/codeigniter. A .psd design is already there.
