• Compiling CSS to SWF server side Java, What is the best practice?

  My project allows users to create custom css for our flex app. In regards to compiling the CSS into SWFs on the server side: Should I use the flex2.compiler.css.Compiler class in mxmlc-3.5.0.12683.jar? Or Should I invoke mxmlc from Runtime.getRuntime().exec()? The css.Compiler class is not very well documented. Does anyone have any examples that use this? For the Runtime exec method, what is the best way to package mxmlc into the maven build so its available to the server at runtime?

• How do I get PyLint to find namespace packages?

  I have a virtualenv where I've installed two packages, both using the company.project_name namespace. So the first package is importable from company.project_name.one and the second from company.project_name.two. The challenge is that I can't seem to be able to run PyLint on either one of them. If I issue: $ pylint company.project_name.one I get: ************* Module company.project_name.one F: 1, 0: No module named project_name.one(fatal) I suspect that I'm probably doing something wrong. Is there a proper way to do this? Edit: I should have made it clear that company.project_name and company are namespace packages and not regular packages.

  I have 3 xsd files: a.xsd b.xsd shared.xsd shared.xsd is imported to both a.xsd and b.xsd using <xs:import schemaLocation="shared.xsd"/> shared.xsd defines <xs:element name="item"> <xs:complexType> .... If I generate java code using xjc a.xsd and b.xsd is generated into different packages and in each package a separate java class is generated for item. How would it be possible to have a single shared class for item and make a and b use it?

  Hi, I have created a main android project using "android" utility. e.g. android create project --target 1 --name MyApp --path C:\testandroid\myui --activity LaunchActivity --package com.myui.activity build.xml got generated fine (has ant targets like debug, release etc) I generated a test android project (which depends on main project). I used "android" utility to do that. e.g. android create test-project --path C:\testandroid\myuitest --main ..\myui --name MfAppTest build.xml got generated but incorrect (does not have targets like run-tests). It has same targets as main project. Can someone help as where is the problem? Thx. Ashley

• Qt on Mac: where to find "configure"

  hi, I am very new to Mac. I downloaded QT SDK Mac Open source (http://get.qt.nokia.com/qtsdk/qt-sdk-mac-opensource-2010.02.dmg) and installed the Package. I can run qmake, build samples and run demos, but I cannot run configure (in order to build the Qt libraries statically). It says: -bash: No such file or directory. Documentation says I should run this in the "Qt root folder", but what is this folder in Mac? I looked for it in /usr/bin, /usr/local/Qt4.6, /Developer/Tools/Qt. Anyway, what is "configure" on Mac. is it an executable or a script? Thanks a lot

• Control webcam from C#

  Hi I have a Creative Life CAM Optia AF webcam, the software included in the package is able to control the camera in different ways, like set autofocus to auto or manual, and a bunch of gamma and brightness settings. I'm capturing the feed with the AForge Computer vision library, and it's working great. But i would like to be able to set the manual focus from inside my application. Ive been searching for a tutorial, but come up empty handed. Can i somehow either disassemble the included software, or is there some way to fetch the traffic / instructions being sent to the device? • Validate data before uploading through SSIS

  I have a SSIS package to upload data from Excel file into an Sql Server 2005 table. The excel file will have varied lines of data ranging from 20k - 30k lines. The upload works fine, when all the data are correct. But obviously fails when there is a small problem even in a single row. Examples like mandatory values presented null, inconvertable values (data type mismatch) etc. I want to validate the excel file before the upload and want to tell the user which row and column has got the error... Any idea as to how to accomplish this, without consuming much time and resources. Thanks

• SSIS Script Component, Allow Null values

  I have a SSIS package that I am programming and my script component won't allow null column inputs. I have checked the box to keep nulls in the flat file source component. My program is running well until my script component where I get the error "The column has a null value" (super vague, I know). The column currently throwing the error is an "int" valued column and is used for aggregations in my script. I could make the null values 0s or to say "NULL" but I'd prefer to just leave them blank. Any advice on how to handle this problem would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! I am using SQL Server BIDS 2008.

  I have a WiX installer that I would like to check for .Net 3.5, and install it if it does not exist. I have the following lines in my wixproj file: <BootstrapperFile Include="Microsoft.Net.Framework.3.5"> <ProductName>.NET Framework 3.5</ProductName> </BootstrapperFile> <BootstrapperFile Include="Microsoft.Windows.Installer.3.1"> <ProductName>WIndows Installer 3.1</ProductName> </BootstrapperFile> When I create the installer, a DotNetFX35 folder is created, and in it are 4 different versions of .Net (including 3.5), and an installer file. I have two questions: How do I have it only bring in version 3.5 (so that the user doesn't have to install 100+ MB of files)? How do I tell WiX to package these files up into the MSI file, so that the user only has to download 1 file?

  hi there, I bumped into a case where I need a big (=huge) python dictionary, which turned to be quite memory-consuming. However, since all of the values are of a single type (long) - as well as the keys, I figured I can use python (or numpy, doesn't really matter) array for the values ; and wrap the needed interface (in: x ; out: d[x]) with an object which actually uses these arrays for the keys and values storage. I can use a index-conversion object (input -- index, of 1..n, where n is the different-values counter), and return array[index]. I can elaborate on some techniques of how to implement such an indexing-methods with reasonable memory requirement, it works and even pretty good. However, I wonder if there is such a data-structure-object already exists (in python, or wrapped to python from C/++), in any package (I checked collections, and some Google searches). Any comment will be welcome, thanks.

• Pass page scope attributes to a JSP using pagecontext.include for use in JSTL?

  We're using this JSP template solution almost verbatim at work: http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javaserverpages/jsp_templates/ When it gets JSP pages to be included, it uses pageContext.include, which leaves us with one problem, and that is that we have a lot of scriplet code that gets initialized in the JSP itself (tag soup). My thought was to modify the template tag with an additional attribute that is a package path reference to a class with an init or execute method. That execute would get called first, and would add page context attributes before including the JSP. We would then use JSTL to access those attributes. However, I was told this wouldn't work because of how pageContext.include works, and the inability to pass through attributes scoped to the page. Is that true, and are there workarounds? I'm so-so on knowing all my scoping rules.

• Generate a collection of changed lines between two revisions of a file using Java

  I am writing an eclipse plugin which needs to be able to determine which lines of a file have changed compared to a different version of the same file. Is there an existing class or library which I can use for this task? The closest I have found is org.eclipse.compare.internal.merge.DocumentMerger. This can be used to find the information I need but is in an internal package so is not suitable for me to use. I could copy/paste the source of this class and adapt it to my requirements. However, I am hoping there is an existing library to handle textual comparisons.

• Windows service Null ReferenceException

  I built a windows service on my local machine. when I install and run it locally it works perfectly fine. When I try to move it to my production machine I get a null reference exception error. I've created an installation package that also works perfectly fine on my machine, but when i run it on the production machine the service still fails. The service references a .dll that in turn has references to 3 other dlls. when i build the project it pulls all of the dlls into the debug folder for the project... I've even installed the service from that folder and it works localy on my machine. I know this has to have something to do with the references, but this is beyond me. Any tips/hints would be appreciated.

  Some time ago, I came across a piece of code, that used some piece of standard java functionality to locate the classes that implemented a given interface. I know the the functions were hidden in some non logical place, but they could be used for other classes as the package name implied. Back then I did not need it, so I forgot about it, but now I do, and I can't seem to find the functions again. Does anyone know where to find these functions? edit: I'm not looking for any IDE functions or anything, but rather something that can be executed within the java application.

  I am using the h5py python package to read files in HDF5 format. (e.g. somefile.h5) I would like to write the contents of a dataset to a text file. For example, I would like to create a text file with the following contents: 1,20,31,75,142,324,78,12,3,90,8,21,1 I am able to access the dataset in python using this code: import h5py f = h5py.File('/Users/Me/Desktop/thefile.h5', 'r') group = f['/level1/level2/level3'] dset = group['dsetname'] My naive approach is too slow, because my dataset has over 20000 entries: # write all values to file for index in range(len(dset)): # do not add comma after last value if index == len(dset)-1: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])) else: txtfile.write(repr(dset[index])+',') txtfile.close() return None Is there a faster way to write this to a file? Perhaps I could convert the dataset into a NumPy array or even a Python list, and then use some file-writing tool? (I could experiment with concatenating the values into a larger string before writing to file, but I'm hoping there's something entirely more elegant)

• Calling software modules (Java, Perl, etc.) from R

  I've recently started using R for Natural Language Processing tasks and find that a lot of applications are available in Java and Perl (for my purposes). For example: A few perl modules are available to find distance measures between words by querying Wordnet. I am aware of the R Wordnet package, but it does not perform the tasks that these CPAN modules do. Many Java packages for NLP are out there, which I'd like to use from within R. I know of rJava, RSPerl, the simple system command amongst others, but I'd like more examples of how I could make calls to Java and Perl applications from R. Recently I tried capturing console output from a perl script. cat( 'print "Hello World\n";',file="hello.pl" ) system(command="c:\Perl64\bin\perl hello.pl") system(command=paste(Sys.getenv("COMSPEC"),"/c","C:\Perl64\bin\perl hello.pl")) None of the above system commands showed 'Hello World' on the R console. I've used "system" before to run perl scripts to perform tasks without wanting to capture console output. • How to Embed/Link binary data into a C++ DLL

  So I have a Visual Studio 2008 project which has a large amount of binary data that it is currently referencing. I would like to package the binary data much like you can do with C# by adding it as a "resource" and compiling it as a DLL. Lets say all my data has an extension of ".data" and is currently being read from the visual studio project. Is there a way that you can compile or link the data into the .dll which it is calling? I've looked at some of the google link for this and so far I haven't come up with anything - the only possible solution I've come up with is to use something like ResGen to create a .resources file and then link it using AssemblyLinker with /Embed or /Link flags. I dont think it'd work properly though because I dont have text files to create the .resources files, but rather binary files themselves. Any advice?

But my question comes when this class runs how is the Thread object allowed if there is no import call to a particular package? how does runnable know anything about Thread or its methods? does the runnable interface extend the thread class?   Hello, I created java enterprise application and it consists of ejb module and web application. I have plain old xml file in source packages folder in package "common" in my ejb module. I want to pass this file path in File() constructor for one class in ejb module. How do i do it? If i pass any of the below it doesn't work :- new File("abc.xml"); //this take file from glassfish/domains/domain1 :( new File("./abc.xml"); I don't want to pass hardcode path like /home/administrator/appname/module/etc.. I want the path relative from my ejb module. Please help me. I've tried all things. Actually when i created a class in same folder and then try classname.getResource("abc.xml").getPath() it works fine. But what if i don't have any class in that folder. Waiting for your replies
