  • I just ordered 70/10 internet service, and need a new router I think?

    Before I had 25/5 service and the N standard router did just fine. Now it doesn't do the job. Online speedtest reads at 82 so I have the line. But my laptop is getting less than 30 in my room. My laptop has the following WiFi card: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/centrino-advanced-n-6205.html What is this talk about 2.4 and 5GHz? Can my laptop be connected at once over both bands? And would that let me use the full 70Mb over Wi-Fi?

  • Best way to mount 3-4 monitor like this?

    I just purchased 2 HP 2009m widescreen monitors, they are not the biggest thing on the block, they are like 19-20" and are only around 150-200$ so I think they are perfect. I bought 2 of them just to make sure I like them, with the full intention of purchasing more to make either a tripple or quad display. I now I am stuck trying to decide, if I purchase 1 more to have a tripple display I would then like to just wrap the third monitor to either the rigth or left side, I could do this without a mount most likely pretty easy. If I decide to go with 2 more monitors to make a quad display then I would like to add the 2 new monitor directly above the 2 that I have now. So it would make a grid of 2 wide and 2 high. I have posted a few photos belwo to show them now with the 2 I have, you will notice that I have them tilted inwards to make more of a "V" shape instead of them being side by side and "STRAIGHT". Now if I decide to make thegrid of 4 then I will need to buy or build a stand to hold them all tightly together (no whitespace or gap between the grid of monitors) but I would like to still have both rows invert to make the slight "V". Do you know of any existing stands I could purchase that would hold all 4 monitors without making them be STARIGHT without the "V" shape? Any tips appreciated please, also they do have holes in the back for VESA. a few photos... (they are from iphone and lighting made them note very good but you can see what I am working with here)

  • Dealing with Word spell check in technical documents?

    I have waste millions of hours clicking the Ignore Once button in Word, while trying to spell check a document related to development. Be that something light on terms like a proposal or something worse like technical specs. I'm beginning to think that this is a huge waste and someone may have developed a dictionary for Word with common development terms that I could add and no longer have this problem. Does such a dictionary exist or is there some other tricks to use to improve this process?

  • Mac OS X 10.6.3: how does Apache config work?

    Just got a MacBook Pro 15" so I'm unfamiliar with how the filesystem is laid out. I noticed when in my filesystem that I've got a few paths specifying httpd.conf: /etc/apache2/httpd.conf /opt/local/apache2/conf/httpd.conf /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf The config files are different in lots of ways (user, group, server_root, modules that are loaded, etc.) The apache2 folders themselves also greatly differ. It seems that the one getting used is either /etc/apache2/httpd.conf or /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf I'm wondering if I might have messed up my system after installing some packages (php5, django, etc) via macports and maybe ended up with 2 apache2 instances. My questions are hence: which httpd.conf is the one being used ? what are the other files for? thanks --update-- To clarify, I didn't explicitly install apache2 via macports. I'm wondering if it was installed because it was a dependency. After more hunting around I'm learning I never should've installed php to begin with because Snow Leopard already includes php 5.3 from the get go. http://serverfault.com/questions/82410/apache-2-and-php-5-3-via-macports I'll need to open another question that asks about how the Mac filesystem works.     I did some searching but I cannot find documentation on how unix usage works. I know somethings (mostly through trial and error) but for example how do I know that: /usr/bin/ls [-aAbcCdeEfFghHilLmnopqrRstuvVx1@] [file]... Means that you can include more than one option. Ie: ls -la Can someone point me to some documentation on what the usage syntax is.

  • Outlook and IMAP - Outlook doesn't allow the Drafts and Trash folders to sync with the respective IMAP folders

    I'm using Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 against an IMAP server (the problem exists across many, like Gmail, you name it). Outlook lets you set your Outlook "Sent" folder to map to the IMAP server's Sent folder (the other choice is to map your Outlook Sent to your Personal Folders Sent) - this is good. When you send a message from Outlook and then look in the sent folder of the IMAP server (e.g. from a different client or from a browser), the messages are there. This is the behavior I want. Outlook does NOT support the same behavior for Drafts and Trash. In both cases, items deleted (or Drafts saved) in Outlook go in to Outlook's local folders and do NOT show on the IMAP server's Trash or Drafts folders. Same problem in reverse. Thunderbird on the other hand does support the proper mapping of Drafts, Sent and Trash. I expected this to be IMAP-specific but it appears to be client specific. What does Outlook implement it this way and is there a workaround?

  • Multiple cable adapter setup not working - VGA to smartphone. All cables tested and work

    Issue Pictured overhead projector setup does not work. #1 - #2 - #3 - Phone. All cables are tested and work! The issue is the HDMI connection between cable #2 and #3. With all other cables, the screen will automatically be displayed onto the projector screen. No extra work needed. With the pictured setup, the smartphone screen is not displayed onto the projector screen. What is the issue with the HDMI connection?? Background We recently had to do presentations at work (school), but the administration only provided VGA means of hooking up to it. Mostly likely reason probably dealt with cost. Anyways, there are several teachers that have brand new Samsung Series 9 ultrabooks (or similar). You know, the ones without VGA support. So I bought an adapter for those ultrabooks. Cable #5 in the picture below. However, both my coworker and I have been wanting to just display our phone screens on the projector. This I knew would require some extra work.     I have a headline in my document of level 3 and want the document hierarical numbered but it seems my level 3 headings do restart numbering at 1.1.1 and i have no clue why. it looks like that: 1. blah 1.1 blub 1.2 blub 2. blah 2.1 blub 2.2 blub 1.1.1 blubb <- shouldnt this be 2.2.1 ? 3. blah how can I correct this issue?

These games are very very old and are only about 250 megs for their entire contents. Since they depend on their paths to run correctly, is there a way to write them to a disc in a certain way that makes windows think they're two separate discs?

  • Why does 1080p through a VGA cable fit my HDTV but is oversized when through an HDMI cable?

    I have put together a new PC with a XFX GeForce GTX 260 graphics card and have it connected to my HDTV. First, I used an old VGA cable with a DVI to VGA adapter and plugged it in to my HDTV's VGA port. Running at 1920x1080 it fit the screen perfectly. Now, to avoid running another cable across the room, I have connected it with a DVI to HDMI cable to my TV's HDMI port, and the desktop at 1920x1080 is cropped by the edge of the screen. I have "fixed" the cropping by using NVIDIA's "Adjust desktop size and position" tool, which created a screen resolution of 1814x1022 to fit the screen, but this is no longer the TV's native resolution and confuses some software (e.g. WoW). Why does VGA work as expected, but HDMI is scaled up? Can it be avoided?

  • Why do Ping and Dig provide different IP address than nslookup?

    When pinging my domain name which points to my home public IP from two different servers on my LAN, it shows them pinging different IP. Further investigation shows dig and nslookup providing different results. See below. A little history. My IP used to be 11.22.33.444 and is hosted by Comcast. I changed routers, and it somehow got changed to 55.66.77.888. I've since updated my 1and1 domain name to point to the 55.66.77.888. desktop is a basic server, runs the web server, and connects wirelessly to my LAN. laptop is a GUI and connected via CAT5. Both operate Centos6.4. My old router was a D-Link, and used their "Virtual Server" feature to pass port 80 to desktop. My new router is a Linksys, and I use their "Port Forwarding" feature to pass port 80 to desktop (however, I haven't gotten this part working yet). What is going on??? Why the different IPs? Obviously, it most somehow be stored on the server, but why does the actual machine even know the public IP since it is on a LAN? How do I purge the old IP?   • Wikipedia Images don't show up in browsers

    It's a weird issue with wikipedia which had left me frustrated. When I go to wikipedia, with different browsers ( IE8, Chrome3, Opera10 ) no image in the site will show up. Even right-clicking the image to ( show, save, open in new tab/window ) will return nothing except when open in new tab/window I'll get a black horizontal line across the page. All my browsing across the web goes flawlessly, and every image in every site show up normally except in the wikipedia site. I have win7 ultimate with all updates.

    I bought an Acer Revo. First I connected it to my Sony TV via HDMI output. For a few days it worked very well. Then one day when switching on the computer, it boots and the TV screen turns black and the TV displays the error message "no input signal". I connected the Revo to a Samsung LED TV, and it did the same. What do you guys think the problem is? How do I tackle this issue? Any help is deeply appreciated.

I don't want the users to download files with bittorrent (mainly used) and other p2p apps. I've also found some solutions about lowering p2p traffic priority using QoS. I really need to BAN p2p traffic. Does anyone know how to setup some rules to deny that kind of traffic ? I've tried to setup an Access Restriction Rule: But it's not working at all ...

  • Chrome Saved Passwords security issue

    If I save a password in Google chrome someone else can easily see the password from Setting -> Advance Settings -> Manage saved passwords -> Show (in required password field) and use it from another computer. Isn't it causing a security issue? I guess it is much secure if it display only the entry and all dots or something for the password (not the actual password). Is there any acceptable idea of showing the password to anyone this easily? Note: Firefox is also showing the actual passwords, I Didn't check in IE.
