  • Gray border when using NSBorderlessWindowMask

    Hello, Whenever I try to create a custom window using NSBorderlessWindowMask and set an NSView (for example an NSImageView) as its contentView, I get a 1px gray border around the NSView and I don't seem to be able to get rid of it. I have followed several approaches including Apple's RoundTransparentWindow sample code as well as several suggestions on StackOverflow. I suspect the gray border is either coming from the window itself or the NSView. Have any of you experienced this problem or do you have a possible solution? Thanks

By "normal" conditions I mean: desktop/office use standard 96dpi monitor resolution mouse/touchpad for pointing (no touchscreen) non-disabled or visually impaired users standard "theme" (no large fonts/icons)

    Im trying to implement button which opens app store application from my app. I use this simple line of code, which opens safari but not app store application. [[UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString: @"http://itunes.apple.com/sk/app/tweetie-2/id333903271?mt=8"]]; I dont know whats wrong, is the URL format correct? I was following this document. All related questions in stackoverflow are outofdate I suppose.

  • Can I retain a Google apps session token permanently for a specific user who logs into my google app

    Hi guys, is it possible to retain upon authorization a single session token for a user who signs into my gogle application. CUrrently my application seems to every now and then require the user to authenticate into google apps. I think it has to do with session dying out or so.     Im trying to "get" when a finger/touch leaves a UIButton in objective C for iphone. I was told in another answer to use UIControlEventTouchDragExit however this event only fires when the touch gets about 100 pixels away from the button, whereas I would like it to be immediate. The apple docs say that goes according to the bounds however my understand is the bounds and the frame are the same unless you rotate the UIbutton (or whatever)

Before I release I'm wondering if I should include some sort of licensing information in the help page of my app. Are all iPhone apps that are downloaded through the App Store covered under some sort of Apple license, or do I need to provide my own license information?     I am trying to make a regex that finds all names, url and phone numbers in an html page. But I'm having trouble with the phone number part.   • localization with core data

    Hi there, Does anyone have any recommendations with localization of core data? My application will have information that will sometimes be the same in both langauges, such as a person's photo, or different such as the person's biography. From what I understand, it's possible to localize the field names (http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/CoreData/Articles/cdUsingMOM.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40005190-SW13), but what's the best course of action for field values? I'm finding that all the methods for calculating time intervals on iPhone (cftimeinterval, nstimer, timesince1970, etc) are all giving me bad data, so I've decided assume a frame rate of 60, just not sure if older apple devices can run at this.

  • Learning to create beautiful /next-generation GUI

    I really want to create a stunning-looking GUI desktop application that looks like, for example: Mac OS X interface Picasa desktop client on windows IPhone apps Office 2007 I've mostly been programming GUI using Qt/Swing/WinForm and I'm tired of creating so plain looking GUI, lol. So I was thinking about diving into stuff like: jQuery WPF/C# iPhone SDK Silverlight Adobe Air/Flex Just to get some ideas on how to create really cool looking UI. Does that sound like a good list? Any developers here that could share what platform they use to create very cool looking desktop app? On a sidenote, I really wonder what developers at Apple / Microsoft use to develop their own cool-looking software. EDIT A lot of responses talk about the importance of usability over "cool-looking".. I totally agree that usability and simplicity are the most important aspects of user interface design. I've been doing GUI development for a while now ( 3 years), so that I understand. But using cool-looking UI also improves user experience + it could make big difference on whether or not your software sells. I mean, otherwise why would Microsoft/Apple try to make their OS UI look "cooler" everytime there's a new version? Why would websites like pragprog.com, or versionsapp.com. make their websites look like that? Basically you kill 2 birds with one stone: stunnning-looking UI + super usability (because it looks simple and intuitive). That is what I'm striving for. And as far as I know, I cannot achieve that using Qt/Winform. Most of the books I have read just show you how to make average-looking (read: 1990's) UI. I want to learn how to create cool-looking UI. And the only place I see cool-looking UIs these days are the technology I list above. I'm not enamored with any technology; but I just want to know how things are done in other technology to see if I could apply them to the technology I'm using, or see if I could use those technology in my line of work. An example: if I were to pick between this UI and this UI, I probably would pick the latter, if just based on looks alone. Functionally, they are just the same UI; they both allow you to keep track of your time. They both contain buttons and textboxes, etc. But the fact that they look different, also differentiate them in terms of attractiveness. So in all, I think the "ice on the cake" is very important. I would say it's the thing you strive for after you are certain you have a totally intuitive, usable UI.

  • What is happening to NCurses and OS X 10.6?

    Apparently libncurses...dylib is broken OS X 10.6.3 relative to Mutt, and perhaps other applications, that use ncurses, although it works in 10.6 (as I can attest) and reportedly it works in 10.6.2. Does anyone know if this is a bug or a feature in the view of Apple? If a feature, is there a workaround for people who want to upgrade 10.6..., but also want to use, for example, Mutt? Thanks
