• Best Way to Handle Meta Information in a SQL Database

  I've got a database where I want to store user information and user_meta information. The reason behind setting it up in this way was because the user_meta side may change over time and I would like to do this without disrupting the master user table. If possible, I would like some advice on how to best set up this meta data table. I can either set it as below: +----+---------+----------+--------------------+ | id | user_id | key | value | +----+---------+----------+--------------------+ | 1 | 1 | email | [email protected] | | 2 | 1 | name | user name | | 3 | 1 | address | test address | ... Or, I can set it as below: +----+---------+--------------------+--------------------+--------------+ | id | user_id | email | name | address | +----+---------+--------------------+--------------------+--------------+ | 1 | 1 | [email protected] | user name | test address | Obviously, the top verison is more flexible, but the bottom version is space saving and perhaps more efficient, returning all the data as a single record. Which is the best way to go about this? Or, am I going about this completely wrong and there's another way I've not thought of?

• Upgrade to 11.10 left me with Kmail not working

  On my way from 10.10 to 12.04 I chose to do the step by step (11.04 then 11.10 then 12.04) because I could not figure if I should do that or a direct install of 12.04LTS. After the first step (11.04) all was well. The next day I upgraded to 11.10. Now I seem to have lost my data in KOrganizer and all of my email history in KMail. KMail still has my email accounts but my tree structure of folders is missing as is all of the emails that should be there. Also, when KMail opens I get the following: KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection. Clicking OK closes KMail. KAlarm appears OK and my browser history is still in place as are various data files. What to do??

• Send some form info to a PHP page to be processed without going to that page? [closed]

  Okay, so I'm not very familiar with php. I have a very simple form, just 2 text fields. All I want to do is, after validating with JavaScript, send these two string fields in an email to a pre-defined email address. I understand how JavaScript works on the client side; you can respond to user events, etc. And PHP is server-side. What I'm having trouble grasping and figuring out is how do I run PHP functions, etc when I want? I figured out how to use the 'action' attribute of the form to send the data via POST to another PHP page. But this simply opens that page. I don't want to open the page I just want to do some processing and send a message back to the page the user is still on. How do I go about something like that? Thanks.

  I have started to work on a project with quite complex business logic and architecture. While I try to understand as much as possible by myself sometimes I do not get why things work in a certain way, and if after sufficient amount of time the problem stays unsolved I send an email describing what the issue is to a team-mate who works on the project for a long time. But often the email is just ignored or answered with one-two short sentences which do not explain a lot. What is the best way to deal with this situation?

The idea is as follows: An employee wants to make a purchase, so they will go to the appropriate page in the intraNet They will fill out the form on the intraNet page They click the email button The data in the form is saved in a database, and an email is sent to me stating that there is purchase order request form filled out I am not exactly sure how to go about this. Part of me wants to create it in a Data Access Page but I am not sure that's correct. If there is no one here who can help, is there anyone who can direct me to someone/something that can help me?

• How to save data from multiple views of an iPhone app?

  Hi Everyone. I'm making an app where I need to save the text in multiple views in the app when the app quits. I also need to be able to remove all of the data from just one of those views and when the app quits, it's possible not all of those views will have been created yet. After reading this post I thought perhaps it would be good to use a singleton that manages my app data which loads in the data when it is first requested and saved it when the app quits. Then in each view where I need to save data I can just set it on the singleton. I gave it a go but have run into some issues. At first I didn't synthesize the properties (as in the post I was using as a guide) but the compiler told me I needed to make getters and setters, so I did. Now when my applicationWIllTerminate: gets call the app crashes and the console says "Program received signal: “EXC_BAD_ACCESS”. kill quit". In here, when the JDialog is called, it just opens as a 100% blank window. I have added a JLabel, but it is not there when it is displaying. Anyway, it takes sometime to send the email, after the email is sent, I can see the JLabel in the JDialog. If I take my issue into one sentence, I am calling the JDialog before the email is sent, but it appears blank, after the email is sent, it's content are there! Why is this? Please help!

• Using AJAX to display error message Ruby on Rails

  I have built a blog using Ruby on Rails. New to both. I am implementing AJAX pretty effectively until I get to the error handling portion. I allow for comments on posts and do this by rendering a comment partial and remote form in the /views/posts/show.html.erb page. Upon successful save of a comment the show page is updated using views/comments/create.js.rjs and displays a flash notice. I am simply trying to flash a notice when it doesn't save. Searched around and worked this a bit on my own. Can't get it to fly. • JQuery form sticks with the ajax indicator on and won't submit

  Hi, I'm using JQuery 1.3 to validate and submit a form to a PHP page which JSON encodes a server response to display on the original form page. I've tried submitting the form without the JQuery part and everything seems to work fine but when I add JQuery it doesn't submit and constantly displays the ajax indicator. (c) Do you have to set attributes for enumeration types differently in a constructor or getter/setter methods?   I'm a bit new to PHP, and I'm more experienced with strongly-typed languages such as JAVA, C# or C++.I'm currently writing a web tool in PHP, and I am having an issue trying to do what I want. The simple idea of what I want to do in code is run through some emails I used PHP-IMAP to get. I then create email objects (a class I defined), and put them in an array. Later on the code, however, I cycle through those emails to display them. However, as you might have guessed I'd have an issue with, I try to use an Email Class object method in that later loop -- and I'm pretty sure PHP doesn't know that the variables in the array happen to be Email Class objects! I wrote a toString method, and I want to call it in the loop. While I don't need to do this for the final version of this tool, I would like to find out what I'm missing. • Best way to program a call to php

  I've recently posted here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2627645/accessing-session-when-using-file-get-contents-in-php about a problem I was having and the general consensus is that I'm not doing it right... while I generally think "as long as it works..." I thought I'd get some feedback on how I could do it better... I was to send the exact same email in the exact same format from multiple different areas. When a job is entered (automatically as a part of the POST) Manually when reviewing jobs to re-assign to another installer The original script is a php page which is called using AJAX to send the work order request - this worked by simply calling a standard php page, returning the success or error message and then displaying within the calling page. Now I have tried to use the same page within the automated job entry so it accepts the job via a form, logs it and mails it. My problem is (as you can see from the original post) the function file_get_contents() is not good for this cause in the automated script... My problem is that from an AJAX call I need to do things like include the database connection initialiser, start the session and do whatever else needs to be done in a standalone page... Some or all of these are not required if it is an include so it makes the file only good for one purpose... How do I make the file good for both purposes? I guess I'm looking for recommendations for the best file layout and structure to cater for both scenarios...   I have 3 servers, a Apache Server, a JBOSS Server and a CAS Server for SSO. The Apache Server resolve all request with a domain such as www.request.com, and the path of CAS Server is www.request.com/cas, and JBOSS Server is www.request.com/jboss (This app got a CAS client). My problem is if I set SSLVerifyClient require for the NameVirtualHost of www.request.com in my Apache Server, I got a HTTP 500 error during the redirecting to the JBOSS Server(http://www.request.com/jboss), after logined in the CAS login page successfully. • Telerik RadAlert back button cache problem

  Hi, I'm sure you have had this one before so if you could point me to something similar.... I have a server side creation of a RadAlert window using the usual Sys.Application.remove_load and add_load procedure however the alert keeps popping up as it seems to be caching when the user hits the back button after it has been activated. I have tried to put a onclick event on a button to clear the function using remove_load before it moves to the next page however it still doesn't seem to clear it. Its used in validation so if a user inputs failed validation it pops up. If they then go and enter correct validation it then moves onto the next page. If they then use back button this is where it pops up again. Any ideas? • XSL apply templates not working...could be XPath error

  I have converted mny stylesheet to use apply templates instead of call templates and it worked fine for my other styesheet, which was more complicated, but this one doesn't seem to work even thought it is a much simpler template. All that it outputs is the sex node and the userlevel node. I think it has to do with my Xpath. • Detecting duplicate values in a column of a Datatable while traversing through It

  I have a Datatable with Id(guid) and Name(string) columns. I traverse through the data table and run a validation criteria on the Name (say, It should contain only letters and numbers) and then adding the corresponding Id to a List If name passes the validation. Something like below:- List<Guid> validIds=new List<Guid>(); foreach(DataRow row in DataTable1.Rows) { if(IsValid(row["Name"]) { validIds.Add((Guid)row["Id"]); } } In addition to this validation I should also check If the name is not repeating in the whole datatable (even for the case-sensitiveness), If It is repeating, I should not add the corresponding Id in the List. Things I am thinking/have thought about:- 1) I can have another List, check for the "Name" in the same, If It exists, will add the corresponding Guild 2) I cannot use HashSet as that would treat "Test" and "test" as different strings and not duplicates. 3) Take the DataTable to another one where I have the disctict names (this I havent tried and the code might be incorrect, please correct me whereever possible) DataTable dataTableWithDistinctName = new DataTable(); dataTableWithDistinctName.CaseSensitive=true CopiedDataTable=DataTable1.DefaultView.ToTable(true,"Name"); I would loop through the original datatable and check the existence of the "Name" in the CopiedDataTable, If It exists, I wont add the Id to the List. Are there any better and optimum way to achieve the same? I need to always think of performance. Although there are many related questions in SO, I didnt find a problem similar to this.   I am following the Nerd Dinner tutorial as I'm learning ASP.NET MVC, and I am currently on Step 3: Building the Model. One part of this section discusses how to integrate validation and business rule logic with the model classes. All this makes perfect sense. However, in the case of this source code, the author only validates one class: Dinner. What I am wondering is, say I have multiple classes that need validation (Dinner, Guest, etc). It doesn't seem smart to me to repeatedly write these two methods in the partial class: public bool IsValid { get { return (GetRuleViolations().Count() == 0); } } partial void OnValidate(ChangeAction action) { if (!IsValid) { throw new ApplicationException("Rule violations prevent saving."); } } What I'm wondering is, can you create an abstract class (because "GetRuleViolations" needs to be implemented separately) and extend a partial class? I'm thinking something like this (based on his example): public partial class Dinner : Validation { public IEnumerable<RuleViolation> GetRuleViolations() { yield break; } } This doesn't "feel" right, but I wanted to check with SO to get opinions of individuals smarter than me on this. I also tested it out, and it seems that the partial keyword on the OnValidate method is causing problems (understandably so). This doesn't seem possible to fix (but I could very well be wrong).   As per the official documentation of lxml, if one wants to validate a xml document against a xml schema document, one has to construct the XMLSchema object (basically, parse the schema document) construct the XMLParser, passing the XMLSchema object as its schema argument parse the actual xml document (instance document) using the constructed parser There can be variations, but the essense is pretty much the same no matter how you do it, - the schema is specified 'externally' (as opposed to specifying it inside the actual xml document). If you follow this procedure, the validation occurs, sure enough, but if I understand it correctly, that completely ignores the whole idea of the schemaLocation and noNamespaceSchemaLocation attributes from xsi. This introduces a whole bunch of limitations, starting with the fact, that you have to deal with instance<-schema relation all by yourself (either store it externally or write some hack to retrieve the schema location from the root element of the instance document), you can not validate the document using multiple schemata (say, when each schema governs its own namespace) and so on. So the question is: maybe I am missing something completely trivial or doing it wrong? Or are my statements about lxml's limitations regarding schema validation true? To recap, I'd like to be able to: have the parser use the schema location declarations in the instance document at parse/validation time use multiple schemata to validate a xml document declare schema locations on non-root elements (not of extreme importance) Maybe I should look for a different library? Although, that'd be a real shame, - lxml is a de-facto xml processing library for python and is regarded by everyone as the best one in terms of performace/features/convenience (and rightfully so, to a certain extent)

• WPF TexBox TwoWay Binding Problem when ValidationRules used

  I seem to have a problem with TwoWay DataBinding - my application has a window with a bunch of textboxes that allow to edit values of the properties they are bound to. Everything works well except for textboxes that also have a validation rule defined, in which case no text is displayed in the textbox when the window opens (binding back-to-source still works fine for those). If I remove Validation rule, everything's back to normal. I searched for an answer to this for a few hours now, but somehow did not even find anyone else complaining of the same issue. I am completely new to WPF, and I am sure it is just a silly mistake I have somewhere in my code...
