  • What is missing from the Java API?

    I started using Java years ago and I've always found almost everything I need inside the standard API provided with JDK SE, with the exception of specific things that don't fit well inside a generic API, like GUI elements (graphs or so on) or advanced mathematical API.. So I was wondering: Which are the most important things that the Java API is missing? When I say "important", I mean either things that you have often needed, but have had to rely on custom libraries, or things that are usually are included in APIs, but not in Java's.

  • Get Element value with minidom, Python

    Hi Guys, I am creating a GUI frontend for the Eve Online API in Python. I have successfully pulled the XML data from their server. I am trying to grab the value from a node called "name" from xml.dom.minidom import parse dom = parse("C:\\eve.xml") name = dom.getElementsByTagName('name') print name This seems to find the node ok but the output is below: [<DOM Element: name at 0x11e6d28>] How could I get it to print the value of the node?     Hi I need to create a very simple GUI application for Windows(open a file, do some changes based on user input, upload the file to an intranet server). The client company has the latest release versions of Java SE, .NET and Adobe AIR installed on all their machines. And their #1 requirement is to have the smallest possible package for xcopy deployment. So which of the 3 listed platforms should I use? Another option of course is a native exe. Thanks, Andrew

I am using the "MSF for Agile... v4.2" template as the base template and would like to set the version control settings of the "Project Management" document library todo the following: Major Versions : Enabled Documents must be checked our before they can be edited I'm using the editor GUI provided by the tfs powertools, however it does not appear these settings are available. Is it possible to define these settings in the WssTasks.XML file or do I need to approach this from a different angle.

    Im working now on simple gui appllication in Java/C++ and CORBA. I want my client on VirtualBox connect to server on localhost.     Are there any Source Code Management (SCM) tools made specifically for solo programmers or small groups of programmers that tracks every small change made to source code in real time? This would require all key strokes to be tracked, and any other small changes like GUI UI editing. This seems like it would be a very useful tool for a programmer trying to remember a fix he did an hour ago that they didn't manually commit.

    Hi all - I'm going to start on a long (~1-year) programming project in Python. I want to use wxPython for my GUI (supports 2.6), but I also want to use 3.1 for the rest of the project (to start using the 3.x syntax). Is there any way for me to design a project that mixes 2.x and 3.x modules? Or should I just bite the bullet and use either 2.x (preferred, since I really want to learn wxPython) or 3.x throughout? We are using custom GUI text i/o components inherited from Component class using e.g. Drawstring, how well is arabic supported within Component class ? The keyboard input is done with KeyListener getKeyChar, getKeyCode etc.
