  • Wubi and Vista 64 bits can't work

    First of all, I have posted this issue at Ubuntu Forum without success yet. Hello, I have downloaded "kubuntu-9.10-desktop-amd64.iso" and I have mounted it on my Windows Vista 64 bits Ultimate. I have downloaded wubi 9.10. The problem is when installing, it crash after few time.   • Use windows 7 inside virtual box,as guest i mean, to create a Windows 7 USB using "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" ? (Linux as host)

    I want to download the Windows 7 professional iso (x32), from microsoft, and , i can do two things. Or buy a new burner , as mine doesn't work (i am trying to decide what dvd writer i could buy) or use a usb dongle to copy the iso to it , and install it via usb. I want to install Windows 7 in a netbook that now has debian,and in my pc. I think i have to buy only the license for the pc , as the netbook came with windows 7 preinstalled, so i suppose that i can use that serial to activate the windows , although i don't know how to install windows 7 starter instead of professional (i think if you remove a file from the iso, windows let you choose the edition to install). The problem is that in both pcs there isn't any windows , only debian. My father has a netbook with windows 7 starter, but i think it hasn't antivirus (at least until have the Karspersky Internet security for 3 pcs bought ), and i don't trust to make the usb there , if i don't now that there isn't any virus or malware. So i am trying to find a way of Create a Windows 7 usb installation , to at least be able to install windows 7 in the netbook without a external dvd writer. I know that with dd in linux you can copy a debian.iso to the usb , and then install debian with it (i've done it) using something like dd if=win7.iso of=/dev/sdb, but i don't know if this would work for windows 7 iso,and if dd will correctly copy the iso to the usb. I suppose that if you are able to boot and install windows 7 from the usb , is that the method works,and you can forget of problems later with the windows 7 installation (problems because some files could not be copied or like). So , i remembered that Microsoft created a tool to copy the iso to the usb using windows. So i thought that i could install in my pc , virtual box , as i have VT and 8 GB ram in it, and download the iso from microsoft ,install windows 7 in the virtual machine , and then copy the iso inside the machine , donwload the iso tool, and atach a usb to the pc, connect it to the guest , and use the tool to copy the iso to the USB. But i don't now if is possible to use a virtual machine to do this , or the virtualization could give problems with the usb, or something. I have found some minutes ago this How to make a windows 7 usb flash install media, from linux? The first method (dd) is the one i like more , and i trust more ( i don't now if the second method using ms-sys , works well , and if i can trust it. I understand that a iso is like a .rar , but no compressed,only containing the files ,so mount the iso and cp the data inside perhaps is ok. Although the method i like more is the microsoft one (more because is from microsoft , and i suppose they now what they do ,at least with this usb related thing, than anything). Perhaps worth more to buy a external dvd writer haha ... Should the virtual machine method work ?

  • Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter not working probperly - Code 31 on Host

    I have a Windows 8.1 machine with Hyper-V installed. From a "clean" Hyper-V configuration I open Virtual Switch Manager, create an External switch with "Allow management operating system to share this network adapter", click OK. Everything seems to work properly but the host loses network connectivity. Opening Device Manager, the "Hyper-V Virtual Ethernet Adapter" is shown under the Network Adapter section with a yellow triangle, and the following message: This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31) An object ID was not found in the file. I tried "Uninstalling" the device, seems to work, but the device doesn't actually remove. I tried removing and re-adding the Hyper-V feature completely, no difference. Tried scf /scannow, no problems. System and Application logs show no errors.     I am having a highly annoying problem on Windows 7 with Microsoft Outlook 2007. Whenever I click on any hyperlinks I am present with the message This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator and let's not forget the most ear-piecing "DING" to accompany this wonderful informative message. Now I have searched the web high and low for a solution here and most sources suggest the same solution of resetting your IE as your default browser. Tried .. failed A lot of sources suggest this has something to do with installing and uninstalling chrome. I have never installed Chrome but am actually consdering this to see if it by some chance fixes my computer. A lot of sources also point to a microsoft kb article 325478 which is focused around Windows XP and totally unrelated to my problem. I see there are some other queries on SuperUser with no resolution. Please can someone help solve this highly annoying issue.     from what i can gather the mailbox bit of the web interface works fine.. when any of the users go to options (top right) and try to use some of the features such as the Organise Mail Delivery Reports to find messages etc... it comes up with a message ..     For some utterly ridiculous administrative reasons we've got a split domain with one mailbox on Office365 which requires us to add include:outlook.com to our SPF record. The problem with this is that that rule alone requires nine DNS lookups of the maximum of 10. Seriously, it's horrible. Is it possible to somehow eliminate 3 of those include: rules from the bloated outlook.com record, but still cover the servers used by O365? Edit: Commentors have mentioned that we should simply use the shorter spf.protection.outlook.com record. With our actual domain name the record's length is 260 chars, which would require 2 strings for the TXT record, and I honestly don't trust that all of the DNS clients and SPF resolvers out there will properly accept a TXT record longer than 255 bytes.

All of the preliminary checks run fine (Apart from a warning about Windows Firewall and opening ports which is unrelated to this and shouldn't be an issue - I can open those ports). Half way through the actual installation, I get a popup with this error: Could not continue scan with NOLOCK due to data movement. The installation still runs to completion when I press ok. However, at the end, it states that the following services "failed": database engine services sql server replication full-text search reporting services How do I know if this actually means that anything from my installation (which is on a clean Windows Server setup - nothing else on there, no previous SQL Servers, no upgrades, etc) is missing? I know from my programming experience that locks are for concurrency control and the Microsoft help on this issue points to changing my query's lock/transactions in a certain way to fix the issue. But I am not touching any queries? Also, now that I have installed the app, when I login, I keep getting this message: TITLE: Connect to Server ------------------------------ Cannot connect to MSSQLSERVER. ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server.     I have created a custom Library under Windows 7 64bit professional to handle my source code. When I tried Windows Backup and Restore for the first time I get the following error Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\Source. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I've found a thread on the error on the Microsoft answers site. But it appears to be 404 (there is a version in Google's Cache) and the thread starter never gets an answer to his issue that works. The official Microsoft answer on this is This problem is due to one or more profiles under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList with missing ProfileImagePath. To check whether you have missing profiles: Open regedit, navigate to the above registry key. (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList). Expand the list Click on each of the profiles listed. The first 3 profiles should have ProfileImagePath value of %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\SystemProfile, %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\LocalService, and %SystemRoot%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService respectively. Starting from the 4th profile, the ProfileImagePath should contain path to the user profiles on your machine, such as C:\users\Christine If one or more of the profile has no profile image, then you have missing profiles. To work around this, delete the profile in question (Caution: The registry contains critical settings that are necessary for your system to function properly. Take extra caution while making changes) First, export the ProfileList key for safekeeping. (Right click on the key, choose “Export”, and save it to the desktop.) Right click on the profile in question, choose delete. Try backup again. This does not work for me. Anyone have any idea what is going on here?

  • Unknown and strange RDP successful logins in EventViewer

    I have a Windows Server 2008 R2 with a valid IP, and recently I've found hundreds of unknown and strange RDP successful logins logged in EventViewer. Here are some details: They are not similar to normal logins, they happen like every second in a while even when I myself am logged in to the server. Event reads "Remote Desktop Services: User authentication succeeded" in "Microsoft-Windows-TerminalServices-RemoteConnectionManager/Operational", Event ID 1149 They seem to use some random user accounts without a domain name. I'm pretty sure that I don't have those local user accounts, and the server doesn't belong to any domain. Legitimate RDP logins have a valid user account and workgroup name, but those logins use unknown user names without any workgroup. Support staff couldn't help me and I'm very curious what are these strange logins. Are they some sort of brute force attack? so why does it read "Successful"? Am I being hacked? Why do they keep happening continually?

  • Error installing dotnet framework 3.5 SP1 on windows 2008

    Getting a really wierd error. One of the developers tried to install Windows 2008 as a Virtual PC. He has also run windows update. When he tries to install dotnet framework 3.5 SP1 he gets the following error: [09/25/09,12:48:26] Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0SP1 (CBS): [2] Error: Installation failed for component Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0SP1 (CBS). MSI returned error code 1 [09/25/09,12:48:34] WapUI: [2] DepCheck indicates Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0SP1 (CBS) is not installed. I though that dotnet framework was installed automatically with windows update on windows 2008. So how could it be missing? Thanks. Shiraz EDIT We also have the same problem on a VPC that had dotnet framework 3.5 installed and working OK. I have tried removing all versions of dotnet framework, using the following clean up tool: http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/pages/8904493.aspx I then downloaded and tried to install dotnet framework 2.0 SP1, from this location: http://www.microsoft.com/Downloads/details.aspx?familyid=79BC3B77-E02C-4AD3-AACF-A7633F706BA5&displaylang=en The error I now get is: "This product is not supported on the Vista Operating System" EDIT Thanks for the help, have given an up vote to everyone. In the end our problem was that we had installed Windows Server 2008 from an older ISO image, on this everything worked fine untill we tried to install framework 3.5 SP1. We reinstalled Windows from a new image, and it worked OK.

    Using empathy in Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit), everything worked great after initial setup. But after disconnecting and reconnecting, any Jabber connection (GTalk and Facebook Chat) gives a 'network error'. Tried disabling accounts and only connecting to GTalk, same error. Tried removing all accounts, adding GTalk, same error. Upgraded to the dev version of Empathy, connected once, then after going 'offline' and reconnecting, same error. If it just didn't work, I'd wait for some kind of fix. But it did work, but only once per install. How does that happen? Anyone with this problem that solved it?

Because I do not have active directory set up, I had to hack my process by using the same username/password for both the source and destination servers to get the process to work. Following that, I used this guy's solution to move the destination database to another server. However, this error occurs when I try to bring the database back online. I don't have an E drive on my server and I have no idea why it's trying to open a file from E drive. I have over a 100gb left on my hard disk so it's definitely not a space issue. This sounds like a bug... Any ideas? I'm running SQL Server 2008 Enterprise edition on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

    I'm running MySQL 5.5.20 on OS X 10.6.8. Using MySQL Administrator 1.2.12 (the latest) I am unable to edit any accounts. After successfully connecting to the database in MySQL Administrator, I go the Account tab, expand a user, and it just says "Loading...". It will stay on "Loading..." indefinitely. The symptoms are almost identical to user's experience and this MySQL bug from 2006, which has since been closed (fixed?). If I create a user and grant permissions to a schema, I get the error "Could not save changes to the use", which came up in 2005 as a bug (now closed). How do I edit MySQL accounts using MySQL Administrator?

  • Windows Live Messenger giving me 8100030d on sign-in

    I'll bullet point things of note: Other accounts work on the same machine. This is a problem across a few machines. I can sign in no problem on some machines. I can use Web Messenger on the problem machines. I'm using the latest version of Messenger. I've uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted. Deleting the "Windows Live Contacts" folder doesn't help. Deleting the Contacts registry entries doesn't work. I'm not using AVG (and besides, can sign in with other accounts) It successfully connects (and signs me out of eBuddy) before erroring. It creates files in the Windows Live Contacts folder. Windows XP running on the problem machines. I'm not sure what other things it could be... This has also been asked at http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Internet_Email/Chat_-_IM/Q_25449997.html, so let's see which system gets me the better response...

My business is moving our shared hosting account (hosting and email) to a new provider, and would like to have minimal downtime. Here is our current plan: Create a backup of our old site Upload our site to the new host Set up duplicate email accounts with our new host Change the name server records on our domain to point to our new host Leave our old site up long enough for DNS records to propagate completely. I'm hoping this should result in little downtime for both website and email.   • Win 7 Privilege Level (Run as administrator) via GP or command line

    Is there a way to set the Privilege Level for legacy software via group policy or on the command line? I have some legacy software, which we unfortunately cannot move away from. This software requires administrator access. I know I can go into the Properties dialog and check "Run this program as an administrator" on every single instance on every single one of my workstations, but that gets old after the 30th install. If I had my way, we would dump this software, find some software that did what we needed, was fully compliant with Win7 security best-practices and give everyone limited user accounts... However, I am not the boss, so everyone gets administrator accounts. Given that, I suppose I could just tell everyone to open the context menu and choose "Run as administrator", but we have some very, very, VERY low-tech users, and half of them might just choose "Delete" instead. Anyone know of a way to set this option on the command line? or better yet, through Group Policy?

I'm using Courier-IMAP and POP3 for reading mail which seems to be working without issue. However, the credentials used to read a mailbox are not working for SMTP. Then restart your courier and saslauthd daemons for config changes to take effect. sudo /etc/init.d/courier-imap restart sudo /etc/init.d/courier-authdaemon restart sudo /etc/init.d/saslauthd restart Watch /var/log/auth.log while trying to send email.   • SQL Server Express backup/restore error: The Media Family on Device is Incorrectly Formed.

    Basically, I'm having this issue: http://www.sqlcoffee.com/Troubleshooting047.htm What I'm doing is running a script I found online (http://pastebin.com/3n0ZfybL) to do a full backup, then rar'ing up the file and moving it to my computer. The CRC of the backup file inside the rar is correct on both computers, so there is no problem with data being corrupted when I transfer it. But then I go and try to restore the database on my dev computer here and I get the errors "sql server cannot process this media family" ... "msg 3013". Why is this happening? I'd test out the backup on the server I'm getting it from, but it's a production server.     I have a need to connect to the same exchange server with multiple accounts. I'm using Extra Outlook to simultaneously load different profiles connecting to each account. Here's a simplified example of the accounts I need to use: log in to test.local.domain user1: [email protected] user2: [email protected] user3: [email protected] I am always being prompted for passwords when opening an Outlook instance. Essentialy only the last username/password combination for each server is stored by Vista. So if I launch Outlook with the same profile I used last, before starting launching using a profile for a different account, I'm not prompted for authentication. Aternatively, adding a new entry in Vista's Stored User Names and Passwords dialog with credentials for user2, when there is alraedy an entry for user1 on the same target server will replace the existing user1 entry with the new user 2 entry. I'm guessing the same thing is going on silently behind the scenes when I provide Outlook credentials. How can I configure Vista's credential management to store credentials for multiple users on the same server?
