• How to execute a large PHP Script ?

  Well basically I may want to execute a script that may take as much as 1 hours as well. What I really want to do is Send SMS to my users using a third party API. So its basically like I supply my script with an array of phone numbers and fire the method to send SMS. However assuming it take 5 seconds to send 1 SMS and I want to send 1000 SMS which is roughly 1 - 2 hours. I can use set_time_limit() because I am on shared host. One way to do this is store numbers in a session and execute each SMS and use javascript to refresh that page until end. This way I need to keep my browser open and the execution will stop if my Internet Connection is disconnected. So, Is there any better way to do this ? Hope I am clear enough to explain what I want? I want to execute a large script that may take hours to execute without getting timeout.

• Can I use WCF on Visual Studio 2005?

  I am about to start a project which consumes third party web services. Because of a legacy system, I am told that I can only use Visual Studio 2005/.NET 2.0. (Though I would have preferred Visual Studio 2008 on .NET 3.5) My understanding is that WCF was released with .NET 3.0. So is there any possibility to use WCF on Visual Studio 2005 by using just the WCF assemblies of .NET 3.0? I will then try to convince them that it is just like using external framework which doesn't disturb anything.

  I've worked on a few Java web projects and we've always used Hibernate for our data object layer. I haven't worked on a large scale ASP.NET site and I'm unsure which solution to choose. I'm tempted to try NHibernate, but I don't like the fact that they use so many third party libraries.   Hi, I'm working on a project for the iPad, I need to read and write to an xml file, which is also used by the counter part of the application in windows. The problem that I have is that I've been looking around but I haven't found a way to modify an element or attribute in an xml, without having to build the whole xml again. I saw this other post, which is basically the same problem that I have, and I also end it up in the same point as the person asking the question, NSXMLParser and TouchXML are read only and do not allowed me to modify my xml. Any other suggestion about what can I use? Thanks!

• Help with setting up panels in Java

  I'm new to Java awt, so I am having trouble with setting up panels. I have one giant panel, which needs to hold 3 panels inside (photo is attached at the bottom). One will go on top(1), second one will be in the middle(3), and third goes on the bottom(2). Any remaining space has to be divided equally between (1)/(3) and (3)/(2). Also, the middle panel (3) is a table, so GridLayout has to be used. How can I achieve this? Thanks in advance! P.S. I've tried to draw it in MS Paint (http://i45.tinypic.com/2w523ie.jpg)

• Icons: How does a developer with no design skill make his/her application icons look pretty?

  I probably spend far too much time trying to make my visual interfaces look good, and while I'm pretty adept at finding the right match between usability and style one area I am hopeless at is making nice looking icons. How do you people overcome this (I'm sure common) problem? I'm thinking of things like images on buttons and perhaps most important of all, the actual application icon. Do you rely on third party designers, in or out of house? Or do you know of some hidden website that offers lots of icons for us to use? I've tried Google but I seem to find either expensive packages that are very specific, millions of Star Trek icons or icons that look abysmal at 16x16 which is my preferred size on in-application buttons. Any help/advice appreciated.

I am handling the request and doing the business part in my application and as a acknowledgement I need to send XML string as Response to the same Page which POSTED the request to my Application. I was successful in retrieving the input from Request using the following code NameValueCollection postPageCollection = Request.Form; foreach (string name in postPageCollection.AllKeys) { ... = postPageCollection[name]); } But i am not sure how to send back the response along with XML String to the site(different domain)? I believe that it has something to do with "commands.hasOwnProperty(command)" that is preventing it from working properly. I am using JQuery the javascript library to build the website, and I need to know how to solve this problem, or an alternative.

These areas won't have buttons or any graphics - they'll be invisible. 3 different methods will be called depending on which third of the cell the user taps i.e. || decrementFooCount || viewFooDetails || incrementFooCount || The cell has a few labels on it that need to be visible at all times - the fooName and fooCount. I'm thinking perhaps three hidden UIButtons over the cell? I also need to maintain the swipe to delete default behavior.

The app got approved in android store whereas itunes rejected it claiming below, "Apps may not use protected third party material such as trademarks, copyrights, patents or violate 3rd party terms of use. • Verizon Fivespot firewall exceptions

  I have a Verizon Fivespot Wi-Fi router and am having issues connecting to the computer that uses it to get on the internet. I am able to connect to the Fivespot admin pages remotely and I am able to connect to the internet from the computer behind the Fivespot. I've tried asking this on superuser but have gotten nothing, I figure this is pertinent to programmers working on remote computers as well. There are two sections pertinent to this issue, Port Filtering And, Port Forwarding I've tried each individually and both together but cannot access anything through the router except for the admin page. I am trying to connect through SSH on Port 22 to an Ubuntu 10.04 box over wifi. I have called Verizon Tech Support but they were unhelpful, the person essentially read what it says on each screen without any elaboration. Any help is greatly appreciated!

  Hi everyone, I'd like to know (from a high level view) what would be required to take a pdf floor plan of a building and determine where exactly you are on that floor plan using GPS coordinates? In addition to location, the user would be presented with a "turn by turn" directions to another point on the map, navigating down hallways, between cubicles, etc. Use case: an iPhone app that determined a user's location and guided them to a conference room or person's office in the building. I'm wanting to make sure only the person who added an event can modify it. Simple! I already have a datasource that has event_added_by as a data point. It is populating a FormView. Second view is a map that shows the location using gps. Third view is a search engine that loads some information to show on the map and on a list (This has two button to load map or table). Fourth view is a table view that shows the results and then loads the detail on another view and load a web site on another view.   Quick background I'm a Java developer who's been playing around with C++ in my free/bored time. Preface In C++, you often see pop taking an argument by reference: void pop(Item& removed); I understand that it is nice to "fill in" the parameter with what you removed. That totally makes sense to me. This way, the person who asked to remove the top item can have a look at what was removed. However, if I were to do this in Java, I'd do something like this: Item pop() throws StackException; This way, after the pop we return either: NULL as a result, an Item, or an exception would be thrown. My C++ text book shows me the example above, but I see plenty of stack implimentations taking no arguments (stl stack for example). The Qustion How should one implement the pop function in C++? The Bonus Why?

  Hello. I'm developing an iPhone application and I'm trying to do this: I want an application with tree views. The view shown first, doesn't have a navigation bar. If the user tap on a button, I need to open the second view with a navigation bar and a table view. The user can also add new items to the table view. If the user do so, the application will show the third view where the user can add fields (this view has also a navigation bar). It may seem simple, but for me it is not. I don't know how to use the UINavigationController and have not found yet a similar example for what I do (paragraph translated by google). UPDATE I don't know how where to put UINavigationController. How can I do that? Can I use a UIViewController to call a UINavigationController? Thank you.

• Converting a date string which is before 1970 into a timestamp in MySQL.

  Not a very good title, so my apologies. For some reason, (i wasn't the person who did it, i digress) we have a table structure where the field type for a date is varchar. (odd). We have some dates, such as: 1932-04-01 00:00:00 and 1929-07-04 00:00:00 I need to do a query which will convert these date strings into a unix time stamp, however, in my sql if you convert a date which is before 1970 it will return 0.
