• Can't launch Oneiric x64 instance on Eucalyptus

  EDIT: after many hours, I've found out that the problem has nothing to do with Eucalyptus. It looks like the image is buggy. Very, very buggy. More details in the end. I didn't manage to fix it, and I will file a bug. EDIT 2: I managed to fix it, it apparently works. I have a 4-machine cluster running Ubuntu Server Natty (11.04) x64. I've installed "Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud" from the installtion CD (then updated it) on each of these machines. The cloud seems to work fine, I have lots of virtual machines running Natty servers on them. Now I'd like to run Oneiric in a virtual machine, but somehow I can't. I downloaded Oneiric's (x64) image from http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/oneiric/current/, published it (uec-publish-tarball oneiric-server-cloudimg-amd64.tar.gz oneiric-server-cloudimg-amd64) exactly as I did with Natty, then tried to launch an instance (euca-run-instances -n 1 -k my-key -t m1.small -z my-cloud emi-XXXXXXXX) using Oneiric's image, but the instance is not able to boot. I've spent many hours googling, but nothing came out. I've asked on #ubuntu-server, but nobody knew what to do. I've asked on #eucalyptus but got no answer at all. Very, very buggy. The first problem is that the Kernel in the image is a -generic kernel, while I suppose it should be a -virtual one. I chrooted into the image, removed the -generic packages, replaced it with the -virtual ones. Then I extracted the new kernel (and replaced the original one (-generic) that came with the tarball) because I need it when I publish and launch an image with Eucalyptus. The problem described above was solved. But then, the console started showing this: mount: mount point ext4 does not exist If you check the /etc/fstab file in the image, it says: LABEL=cloudimg-rootfs ext4 defaults 0 1 Damnt, where's my mount point? Note that it is missing /proc as well. Well, when you think it is over, you will notice that your instance will have no network connectivity. Let's check /etc/network/interface: # interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8) auto lo iface lo inet loopback Oh my! It is missing eth0... here I stopped. I can't take no more. I give up. Looks like Canonical has just forgotten to properly set up this image. At first, I though: "have I downloaded a server image by mistake?", but no, I double checked. It is really the cloud image, it has even "cloud-init" installed (which is not, by default, on server images). They just forgot to prepare it. I will file a bug (and reference it here once this is done), and hope they fix it soon! EDIT 2: it looks like the network configuration was the last thing missing. I decided to test it with the fixes above, and it booted properly! However, I haven't got the slightest idea if the image is now good to go...

• jQuery image crossfader problem

  Hey!, I have a image switcher fadein/out (it will crossfade iamges - auto(1 - x) ) and a pager but i cant manage to make the image rotation listen the click action on pager, when clicked on pager the image will NOT jup tu the specific img. • How to resolve "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden" errors from iCal/CalDAV server after upgrade to Snow Leopard Server?

  We recently upgraded our Open Directory Master & Replica to Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard Server. We had a mismatched server FQDN & LDAP Search Base/Kerberos Realm, so we exported all users & groups, created the new Open Directory Master w/matching FQDN & Search Base/Realm, reimported users & groups, and re-bound all servers & workstations to the new OD Master. At the same time as all of this, we upgraded our iCal/CalDAV server to Mac OS X 10.6.4 Snow Leopard Server. Ever since doing so, we've seen the following issues with our iCal/CalDAV server and iCal clients on both Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard & Mac OS X 10.6: If a user attempts to move or delete an event (single or repeating) that was created prior to the upgrade to 10.6 Server, they get the following error: Access to "blah" in "blah" in account "blah" is not permitted. The server responded: "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden" to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation. New users added to the directory get the following error when attempting to add their account to in iCal's preferences: The user "blah" has no configured pricipals. Confirm with your network administrator that your account has at least one CalDAV principal configured. Interestingly, we've since discovered that users seem to be able to delete individual events from an old repeating event without error, but that's a massive amount of work to get rid of a repeating event. I will note that we have not yet added an SRV record in DNS as instructed on page 19 of iCal_Server_Admin_v10.6.pdf. Further Investigation: In this particular case, a user is attempting to decline repeating events created prior to the upgrade to Snow Leopard Server. Granting the user full write access with sudo calendarserver_manage_principals --add-write-proxy users:user1 users:user2 (which did work) doesn't allow deletion of the events. Still get the usual error: Access to "blah blah" in "blah blah" in account "blah blah" is not permitted. The server responded: "HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden" to operation CalDAVWriteEntityQueueableOperation. I did delete the one for the organizer's calendars and it took longer to process the attempted event delete while it rebuilt the database, but still errored out in the end. I see lots of questions about this in my Google searches, but not solutions and this is a widespread problem on our iCal Server. Now, we mostly try to get users to ignore them (hence the amount of time this question has been open), but every now and then I dig in deeper trying to find the culprit and/or solution.

• Two UIViews, one UIViewController (in one UINavigationController)

  Given an iPhone app with a UITableViewController pushed onto a UINavigationController, I would like to add a right bar button item to toggle between the table view and an "alternate" view of the same data. Let's also say that this other view uses the same data but is not a UITableView. Now, I know variations on this question already exist on Stack Overflow. However, in this case, that alternate view would not be pushed onto the UINavigationController. It would be visually akin to flipping the current UIViewController's table view over and revealing the other view, then being able to flip back. In other words, it's intended to take up a single spot in the UINavigationController hierarchy. Moreover, whatever selection you ultimately make from within either view will push a common UIViewController onto the UINavigationController stack. Still more info: We don't want to use a separate UINavigationController just to handle this pair of views, and we don't want to split these apart via a UITabBarController either. Visually and contextually, the UX is meant to show two sides of the same coin. It's just that those two sides happen to involve their own View Controllers in normal practice. Now … it turns out I have already gone and quickly set this up to see how it might work! However, upon stepping back to examine it, I get the distinct impression that I went about it in a rather non-MVC way, which of course concerns me a bit. Here's what I did at a high level. Right now, I have a UIViewController (not a UITableViewController) that handles all commonalities between the two views, such as fetching the raw data. I also have two NIBs, one for each view, and two UIView objects to go along with them. (One of them is a UITableView, which is a kind of UIView.) I switch between the views using animation (easy enough). Also, in an effort to keep things encapsulated, the now-split-apart UITableView (not the UIViewController!) acts as its own delegate and data source, fetching data from the VC. The VC is set up as a weak, non-retained object in the table view. In parallel, the alternate view gets at the raw data from the VC in the exact same way. So, there are a few things that smell funny here. The weak linking from child to parent, while polite, seems like it might be wrong. Making a UITableView the table's data source and delegate also seems odd to me, thinking that a view controller is where you want to put that per Apple's MVC diagrams. As it stands now, it would appear as if the view knows about the model, which isn't good. Loading up both views in advance also seems odd, because lazy loading is no longer in effect. Losing the benefits of a UITableViewController (like auto-scrolling to cells with text fields) is also a bit frustrating, and I'd rather not reinvent the wheel to work around that as well. Given all of the above, and given we want that "flip effect" in the context of a single spot on a single UINavigationController, and given that both views are two sides of the same coin, is there a better, more obvious way to design this that I'm just happening to miss completely? • Database connection timeout

  Hi I have read so many articles on the Internet about this problem but none seem to have a clear solution. Please could someone give me a definite answer as to why I am getting database timeouts. The app is a GWT app that is being hosted on a Tomcat 5.5 server. • Java Hibernate/C3P0 error: "Could not obtain connection metadata. An attempt by a client to checkout

  I'm trying to get some code I was passed up and running. It appears to use the Hibernate framework. I've gotten past most of the errors tweaking the configuration, but this one has me dead stumped. It's trying to connect to two databases: gameapp and gamelog. Both exist. It seems to have issues connecting to gamelog, but none connecting to gameapp (later in the init, it connects to and loads other DBs just fine). Below, I've pasted the error and exception stack dump. My database is mysql and database server is running on the local machine only. The container environment is Centos Linux system. • SSH not working over IPSec tunnel (Strongswan)

  I configured a small network on a cloud virtual machine. This virtual machine has a static IP address assigned to eth0 interface that I'll call $EXTIP. mydomain.com points to $EXTIP. Inside, I have some linux containers, that get their ip through DHCP in the Subnet 10.0.0.0/24 (i called the virtual interface nat ). They run some services that can be reached through DNAT. Then I wanted to connect to these containers through an IPSec tunnel, so I configured StrongSwan. ipsec.conf: conn %default dpdaction=none rekey=no conn remote keyexchange=ikev2 ike=######## left=[$EXTIP] leftsubnet=10.0.1.0/24,10.0.0.0/24 leftauth=pubkey lefthostaccess=yes leftcert=########.pem leftfirewall=yes leftid="#########" right=%any rightsourceip=10.0.1.0/24 rightauth=######## rightid=%any rightsendcert=never eap_identity=%any auto=add type=tunnel Everything works fine, IPSec clients get IPs of the 10.0.1.0/24 subnet and can reach the containers subnet. My problem is that I'm not able to get SSH connections over the tunnel. It simply does not work, ssh client does not produce any output. The list items are floated right and sized due to an anchor tag inside them with a roll over. The last element is given a specific size to suck up any extra space. My question is: How can i get it to display at the same widths without specifying exact widths for each list item? Any help would be appreciated.   I am using vaadin in combination with navigator7 addon. In header and footer there are spacings between conponents That i would not have. I tried to remove the spacings using setSpacing(false) for header and footer component but it is not working probably becouse of the addon. So i tried to solve this using css. • HTML overflow:hidden doesn't format text correctly

  I'm working on a website for an American Football team. They have these newsitems on their front page which they can manage through a CMS system. I have a problem with alligning the text inside those news items. Two of the news items look like this: As you can see, the right newsitem text are displayed nicely. But the left cuts it off really bad. You can only see the top half of the text at the last sentence. I use overflow: hidden; to make sure the text doesn't make the div or newsitem bigger. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this through HTML and CSS or should I cut it off serverside with PHP? • Mac won't boot into safe mode

  Mac boots fine normally, except when in safe mode. Holding down shift when booting gets me to the progress bar on the grey screen. Progress bar gets about half way before mac reboots. I modified nvram boot-args to get a better look: sudo nvram boot-args="-x -v" It definitely gets through fsck, skips loading kernel extensions (since it's in safe mode), does something with the network interfaces, then this is the last thing it wips through...   I'm running REHL 6 and just installed a Ubuntu Server Guest via KVM set to start at boot. This works correctly and the guest loads, but it loads "paused" and requires that I manually un-pause it. Can someone give me a hint as to how I can I get the Guest OS to actually become active on boot? • ie9/CSS: Flyout menu not working in ie9, but looks great in Firefox/Chrome

  Please see this flyout menu: http://www.caseen.com/store.html. It looks amazing in both Firefox and Chrome, but not in IE9! Trying to see what is going on =(. It looks like ie9 is completing ignoring the stylesheet, but in error checking and clicking ie9 direct mode, it shows up however VERY ugly with huge nasty white borders around the links! Am I overusing divs? Can this be simplified?

  Hello, I'm writing some additions to a Castle MonoRail based site involving an Add and an Edit form. The add form works fine and uses POST but the edit form uses GET. The only major difference I can see is that the edit method is called with the Id of the object being edited in the query string. When the submit button is pressed on the edit form, the only argument passed is this object Id again. At the end of the day I'm not that familiar with MonoRail and this may be a stupid mistake on my behalf, but I would very much appreciate being made a fool out of if it fixes the problem! :) Thanks
