• PHP framework question

  I'm currently working on a browser-based MMO and have chosen the LAMP stack because of the extremely low cost to start with in production (versus Windows + IIS + ASP.NET/C# + SQL Server, even though I have MSDN Universal). However I will need a PHP framework for this as it's no easy task. I am not restricted by anything other than the ability to run on Linux, as I will use a dedicated cloud hosting solution (and a VMWare image for development) and can configure it as needed. In no specific order: It has to be easily scalable; this is crucial. If the game becomes a steady success it will eventually outgrow the server beyond what the host provides and would have to be moved to several load-balanced servers. It is crucial that this can be done with minimum effort. I do know this might require following strict conventions, so if you know of any for your suggested framework please explain what would be needed. It has to provide modules for all the core tasks: authentication, ACL, database access, MVC, and so on. One or two missing modules are fine, as long as they can easily be written and integrated. It should support internationalization. I think there is no excuse for any web framework not to provide means of translating the application and switching between languages without a lot of effort from the programmer. Must have very good community support and preferably commercial support as well. Yes, I do know QCodo/QCubed is so nice, but it is not mature enough for this task. Smooth AJAX support is required. Whether the framework comes with AJAX-capable widgets or has an easy way of adding AJAX is not relevant, as long as AJAX is easily doable. I plan to use jQuery + Dojo or one of them alone - not exactly sure. Auto-magically doing stuff when it improves readability and relieves a lot of effort would be especially nice if it is generally reliable and does not interfere with other requirements. This seems to be the case of CakePHP. I have read a lot of comparisons and I know it's a really hot debate. The general answer is "try and see for yourself what suits you". However, I can't say it is easy for this task and I'm calling for your experience with building applications with similar requirements. So far I'm tied up between Zend and CakePHP by the general criteria, however, all well-known frameworks offer the same functionality in some way or another with different approaches each with it's own advantages and disadvantages. Edits: I am kinda new to MVC, however, I am willing to learn it and I don't care if a framework is easier for those new to MVC. I have lots of time to learn MVC and any other architectures (or whatever they're called) you recommend. I will use Zend as a utility "framework", even though it's just a collection of libraries (some good ones though, as I have been told). Current PHP contenders are: CakePHP, Kohana, Zend alone.

• IE positioning problems

  In every browser but IE, on euroworker.no/order the little green arrow under the word "produkt" sits on top of my div container. Why in the world does this not work in IE? Thing is, it works on two pages out of four in IE but all four in other browsers. • Cisco ASA - Enable communication between same security level

  I have recently inherited a network with a Cisco ASA (running version 8.2). I am trying to configure it to allow communication between two interfaces configured with the same security level (DMZ-DMZ) "same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" has been set, but hosts are unable to communicate between the interfaces. I am assuming that some NAT settings are causing my issue. • Problem with socket communication between C# and Flex

  Hi all, I am implementing a simulated b/s stock data system. I am using flex and c# for client and server sides. I found flash has a security policy and I handled the policy-file-request in my server code. But seems it doesn't work, because the code jumped out at "socket.Receive(b)" after connection. I've tried sending message on client in the connection handler, in that case the server can receive correct message. But the auto-generated "policy-file-request" can never be received, and the client can get no data sending from server. • $.noConflict() not working with mootools slide show. Need help !

  I am working on a site http://tapasya.co.in where i just impemented mootools slideshow. But I noticed that menubar that i was using stopped working, it was supposed to drop horizontaly but it is not being displayed now. I have used jquery for it. Please see the source of the web page. What can be the problem ? Mootools conflicting with javascript or some other problem. • Qwt plot not working , simple plot curve not appeat

  I followed the example of simple plot in qwt examples to plot a curve. The axis and the graph appear in the Qt main window user interface but the curve not. • Linq to SQL NullReferenceException's: A random needle in a haystack!

  I'm getting NullReferenceExeceptions at seemly random times in my application and can't track down what could be causing the error. I'll do my best to describe the scenario and setup. Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated! C# .net 3.5 Forms Application, but I use the WebFormRouting library built by Phil Haack (http://haacked.com/archive/2008/03/11/using-routing-with-webforms.aspx) to leverage the Routing libraries of .net (usually used in conjunction with MVC) - intead of using url rewriting for my urls. My database has 60 tables. All Normalized. It's just a massive application. (SQL server 2008) All queries are built with Linq to SQL in code (no SP's). Each time a new instance of my data context is created. I use only one data context with all relationships defined in 4 relationship diagrams in SQL Server. the data context gets created a lot. I let the closing of the data context be handled automatically. I've heard arguments both sides about whether you should leave to be closed automatically or do it yourself. In this case I do it myself. It doesnt seem to matter if I'm creating a lot of instances of the data context or just one. It seems like from that link it's impossible since using a where predicate because entity class doesn't know what any of the properties are until I pass them in. Lastly, I need some way of setting a new object as the return type set to the implementation type, in nhibernate (what I am trying to convert from) it was simply this line that did it: ImplentationType entity = default(ImplentationType); However default is an nhibernate command, how would I do this for LINQ? EDIT: getOne doesn't seem to work even when just going off the base class (this is a partial class of the auto generated LINQ classes). I even removed the generics.   I have a relatively simple MapActivity that I'm trying to make display a list of "camps" within a given map region. I've created a custom subclass of OverlayItem called CampOverlayItem, a custom ItemizedOverlay called CampsOverlay that returns CampOverlayItems, and of course a MapActivity subclass that populates the map. I'm pulling the overlay data from a database using an AsyncTask as created in my activity. The AsyncTask is triggered from a ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener attached to the MapView. In the onPostExecute method of the AsyncTask, I create a new instance of my CampsOverlay class and pass it a list of the camps returned from the database (which are fetched in doInBackground). I then call: mapView.getOverlays().add(newOverlay); where newOverlay is the CampsOverlay I just created. • Single-port 2600 router with 2900XL switch

  I have a setup, where the single port 2600 router is in port 0/2 in the switch, outside network is on port 0/1, and the rest (0/3-0/24) should be clients for the second network that would be managed by the 2600 router. I configured everything with two VLANs: 100 for outside (0/2-0/24), 200 for inside (0/1-0/2). 0/2 is a trunk port for the two VLANs. The issue that came about is that I can't have two VLANs on at once: software doesn't allow it. Now, I can ping the outside network devices (172.16.7.1, 172.16.7.103), and even google (8.8.8.8) from the router, but not the switch. Devices on connected get a DHCP lease properly but can't ping outside the network, just the router - 172.17.7.1 and the switch itself, 172.17.7.7. • jQuery / jqGrids / Submitting form data troubles...

  Ive been messing with jqgrids alot of the last couple days, and I have nearly everything the way I want it from the display, tabs with different grids, etc. Im wanting to make use of Modal for adding and editing elements on my grid. My problem that Im running into is this. I have my editurl:"editsu.php" set, if that file is renamed, on edit, i get a 404 in the modal.. great! However, with that file in place, nothing at all seems to happen. I even put a die("testing"); line at the top, so it sees the file, it just doesnt do anything with it.   From Effective Java 2nd edition item 67 page 266-268: The background thread calls s.removeObserver, which attempts to lock observers, but it can’t acquire the lock, because the main thread already has the lock. All the while, the main thread is waiting for the background thread to finish removing the observer, which explains the deadlock. I am trying to find out which threads deadlock in the main method by using ThreadMXBean (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1102359/programmatic-deadlock-detection-in-java) , but why does it not return the deadlocked threads? • Recover RAID 5 data after created new array instead of re-using

  Folks please help - I am a newb with a major headache at hand (perfect storm situation). I have a 3 1tb hdd on my ubuntu 11.04 configured as software raid 5. The data had been copied weekly onto another separate off the computer hard drive until that completely failed and was thrown away. A few days back we had a power outage and after rebooting my box wouldn't mount the raid. In my infinite wisdom I entered mdadm --create -f... command instead of mdadm --assemble and didn't notice the travesty that I had done until after. It started the array degraded and proceeded with building and syncing it which took ~10 hours. After I was back I saw that that the array is successfully up and running but the raid is not I mean the individual drives are partitioned (partition type f8 ) but the md0 device is not. Realizing in horror what I have done I am trying to find some solutions. I just pray that --create didn't overwrite entire content of the hard driver. Could someone PLEASE help me out with this - the data that's on the drive is very important and unique ~10 years of photos, docs, etc. Is it possible that by specifying the participating hard drives in wrong order can make mdadm overwrite them? when I do mdadm --examine --scan I get something like ARRAY /dev/md/0 metadata=1.2 UUID=f1b4084a:720b5712:6d03b9e9:43afe51b name=<hostname>:0 Interestingly enough name used to be 'raid' and not the host hame with :0 appended.   90% of the time I am unable to launch osk.exe from a 32bit process on Win7 x64. Originally the code was just using: Process.Launch("osk.exe"); Which won't work on x64 because of the directory virtualization. Not a problem I thought, I'll just disable virtualization, launch the app, and enable it again, which I thought was the correct way to do things. My problem is that I see the data flowing as json to the browser and I see three rows in the grid, but those rows are empty, and the data is not shown (three empty rows in the grid).
