• compiling actionscript from command line using MXMLC

  I have a tiny actionscript "project" consisting of two files, call them foo.as and bar.as. For reasons I won't go into, I really really want to build the .SWF from the command line, without setting up a formal project of any kind. Every compiler I've ever used lets you do this, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to coerce MXMLC into compiling these two files and linking them into a SWF. Naively, I try MXMLC foo.as bar.as but I'm informed that only one source file is allowed. Ok, supposing I compiled these two files separately, how would I link them together to get the final SWF? NOTE: The only reason I have two files instead of one is the requirement of only one class per file. I tried putting both classes in one file and making one of the classes "private" or "internal" but neither of these ideas worked. I would be ecstatic to find out I can put more than one class in a file (with only one being public).

• Warning when using qsort in C

  I wrote my comparison function int cmp(const int * a,const int * b) { if (*a==*b) return 0; else if (*a < *b) return -1; else return 1; } and i have my declaration int cmp (const int * value1,const int * value2); and I'm calling qsort in my program like so qsort(currentCases,round,sizeof(int),cmp); when i compile it I get the following warning warning: passing argument 4 of ‘qsort’ from incompatible pointer type /usr/include/stdlib.h:710: note: expected ‘__compar_fn_t’ but argument is of type ‘int (*)(const int *, const int *)’ The program works just fine so my only concern is why it doesn't like the way im using that?

• Decoding subsampled bitmaps in Android

  I decode bitmaps from the SD card using BitmapFactory.decodeFile. Sometimes the bitmaps are bigger than what the application needs or that the heap allows, so I use BitmapFactory.Options.inSampleSize to request a subsampled (smaller) bitmap. The problem is that the platform does not enforce the exact value of inSampleSize, and I sometimes end up with a bitmap either too small, or still too big for the available memory. Also, powers of 2 are often faster/easier for the decoder to honor.   Hi, I have a module which uses Hibernate as an ORM solution with EHCache as second level cache. I have another seperate module which inserts and updates the database. What I need is to have the ability to trigger an event when a row is inserted or updated. Let's say I have a Customers table and it is mapped to a Customer entity. I want some procedure to notify me that a new Customer has been added. Regarding the second seperate module it uses Hibernate also but at least for the time being they are not connected (I'm pointing this out as if someone thinks that I must share the Hibernate session (or something of the sort) between them then this is something I will consider). Please note that I have limited experience with Hibernate. Thanks in advance

• How to scroll to the new added item in a ListView

  Hi all My application show a ListView with a button which allow user to add an element. When the user clicks on this button, another Activity is started to allow user to populate the new element. When the add is finished, we return to the previous Activity with the ListView and I would like to scroll to the new element. Note that this element is not necessarily at the end of the ListView because there is an "order by" when I retrieve the datas from the database. I know I need the cursor position of the new element to make the ListView scrool to it, but the only info I have about this element is its id, so how to convert this id to cursor position ? Do I have to loop on the cursor to find the position ? Thanks in advance

  I'm trying to create a Mozilla browser plugin for the sole purpose of detecting with javascript whether or not an application that I have written is installed. This was inspired by another stackoverflow question and answer on a similar subject. All I want really is a HelloWorld type example as what I need to write will be even simpler than that. There is a lot of information on the Mozilla website, but as a plugin noob and a C++ novice I'm experiencing information overload. I just need a step by step "this is how to create your first simple plugin". I have already written the IE equivalent by following this ATL tutorial. This is the kind of level of guide that I would ideally like to find. Please note, this is specifically about Mozilla plugins and not extensions - Googling this subject brings up a lot of information about extensions in addition to plugins.

• Is there a workaround to Safari's/Opera's bug that you can't tab through hyperlinks?

  In IE, Firefox, Chrome and most Windows-based interfaces that I've used, the Tab key can be used to navigate from one form field or hyperlink to the next (e.g. "actionable" items) (note: I have not tested on other Operating Systems) However Safari and Opera skip all hyperlinks in a web page when tabbing. IMHO its a usability bug but I digress. Is there a workaround/hack to make Safari and/or Opera navigate through these links? I've noticed that Opera will accept the tabindex attribute if set e.g. tabindex="0" thus maintaining the links "index" within the flow of the DOM on the page... but Safari does not want to accept this. For those interested, this bit of jQuery will make all the hyperlinks clickable. //Make links 'tab-able' in Opera $(document).ready(function(){ if($.browser.opera){ $('a[href]').attr('tabindex', 0); } }); ...and although this seems to work for Opera... is there a better workaround?

• Apache is running but there is no page displayed

  I am on a Mac OSX and I am using the built in PHP and Apache2. I have been setting up MySQL and finally when I got MySQL working my local site won't display. Do note that I did have the web server running and delivering PHP enabled pages, just no database connection. But my question is not about MySQL. I have changed various settings in the 'http.conf' file, and I have the line: '127.0.0.1 localhost' in my hosts file. I also have other alias' pointing to 127.0.0.1. I have checked everything I could about Apache and I have made sure that any message in the error_log is ok. I currently have my errorLevel set to debug, so I get all the messages. At this point (HOURS of self fixing) I think I need help. What can I provide for someone to figure this out with me. Thanks.

• Ruby email_veracity_checker getting Recipient OK for invalid emails

  I was testing out email_veracity_checker from rails console and found that when I tested a google apps domain (w/ catchall), yahoo and another company domain, the smtp server always returned 250 recipient ok for invalid emails (wellformed, but bogus). It seems that these servers are always returning OK perhaps to prevent email harvesting. But it does seem to raise the question 'why even validate up-front', is this approach even valid in today's environment? Note: gmail did return 550 email account doesn't exist for invalid. related to How check if an email exist without send in Ruby? • Eclipse: How to build an executable jar with external jar?

  Hi all, I am trying to build an executable jar program which depends on external jar downloaded. In my project, I included them in the build path and can be run and debug within eclipse. When I tried to export it to a jar, I can run the program but I can't when I try to press a button which includes function calls and classes from the external jar. I have edited the environment variables (Windows XP) CLASSPATH to include paths of all the external jar, but it doesn't work. A point to note is that I got compile warnings while exporting my executable jar, but it doesn't show up any description about the warnings. • SQLServer Binary Data with ActiveRecord and JDBC

  I'm using the activerecord-jdbc-adapter with ActiveRecord to be able to access a SQLServer database for Rails Application running under jRuby and am having trouble inserting binary data. The Exception I am getting is below. Note I just have a blurb for the binary data from the fixtures that was working fine for MySQL. ActiveRecord::StatementInvalid: ActiveRecord::ActiveRecordError: Operand type clash: nvarchar is incompatible with image: INSERT INTO blobstorage_datachunks ([id], [datafile_id], [chunk_number], [data]) VALUES (369397133, 663419003, 0, N'GIF89a@') When I created the tables the migration had binary and SQLServer used Image instead. We're using Rails 2.3.5, SQLServer Express 2008. What I'm looking for is a way to get the binary data into SQLServer with ActiveRecord. Thanks in advance for the help.

• Generating a reasonable ctags database for Boost

  I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and I ran the command: $ ctags -R --c++-kinds=+p --fields=+iaS --extra=+q -f ~/.vim/tags/stdlibcpp /usr/include/c++/4.2.4/ to generate a ctags database for the standard C++ library and STL ( libstdc++ ) on my system for use with the OmniCppComplete vim script. This gave me a very reasonable 4MB tags file which seems to work fairly well. However, when I ran the same command against the installed Boost headers: $ ctags -R --c++-kinds=+p --fields=+iaS --extra=+q -f ~/.vim/tags/boost /usr/include/boost/ I ended up with a 1.4 GB tags file! I haven't tried it yet, but that seems likes it's going to be too large to be useful. Is there a way to get a slimmer, more usable tags file for my installed Boost headers? Edit Just as a note, libstdc++ includes TR1, which has allot of Boost libs in it. So there must be something weird going on for libstdc++ to come out with a 4 MB tags file and Boost to end up with a 1.4 GB tags file.

• Robust fault tolerant MySQL replication

  Is there any way to get a fault tolerant MySQL replication? I am in an environment that has many networking issues. It appears that replication gets an error and just stops. I need it to continue to work and recover from these faults. There is some wrapper software that checks the state of replication and restarts it in the case of losing its log position. Is there an alternative? Note: Replication is done from an embedded computer with MySQL 4.1 to a external computer that has MySQL 5.0.45

  So far I've only checked things out and back in to Source Safe but now I want to create a project for parallel development. That is, I want to Share and Branch the entire project. I have been reading the Source Safe Help files on how to do this and although I think I am following the instructions, I end up with an empty folder. Can someone enumerate the steps required to do this? Do you start by creating a new project under the Source Safe root so you have something to Share the original project with? • YesNo MessageBox not closing when x-button clicked

  When I open a MessageBox with options YesNo, the (usually) cancelling cross in the upper right is shown but has no effect. System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Really, really?", "Are you sure?", MessageBoxButton.YesNo); If I offer YesNoCancel as options, clicking the cross closes the Dialog with DialogResult Cancel. System.Windows.MessageBox.Show("Really, really?", "Are you sure?", MessageBoxButton.YesNoCancel); I would have expected that the cross is "looking disabled" if not hidden at all, when clicking it has no effect. Probably I am not the first one observing this. What is your favorite way to hide/disable this button or workaround the issue? Note: I would prefer a solution that does not use System.Windows.Forms, since I am dealing with WPF projects and would like to avoid any InterOp if possible.

  Hi All, I see a lot of questions on SO that are asked about 'good' programmers vs 'bad' programmers. For example, what is a good/bad programmer, how to tell a good/bad programmer, what to do about a bad programmer on a team, how to hire a good programmer. I know it's pretty easy to apply the words to other people, but I find myself wondering if anyone out there would actually define THEMSELVES in a Boolean fashion like this, rather than "good in some areas, weak in others..." I'm not asking as an either/or where you have to be one or the other, but as a 'both' - are you a good or bad programmer? If so (either one), why? Please note this isn't meant to be argumentative, or to define good/bad practices, etc. I just want to know how many people think they are good, bad, or neither out there.

Note : 'code_summary_id' is define as column in code_set_detail table, and define as primary key in code_summary table. To sum-up, I would like define 'code_summary_id' as primary key in code_summary table, and map 'code_summary_id' in code_set_detail table. How to define a primary key in a table, and also map this key to another table ?
