  • Android custom widget styles: how to put them into a namespace?

    - by Matthias
    In the ApiDemos, there is a view example called Gallery1 which declares a custom style in attrs.xml, as such: <declare-styleable name="Gallery1"> <attr name="android:galleryItemBackground" /> </declare-styleable> now, I want to do the same thing for my widgets, but using a different namespace. However, as soon as I replace the android: namespace with something else, I get this error: ERROR: In Gallery1, unable to find attribute myns:galleryItemBackground Unable to find attribute? Why does it look for an attribute I am about to declare? Isn't the point of this file to be able to name your own custom attributes? It's interesting to note that it works if you do not supply a custom namespace, but just an attribute name.

  • cannot load JSTL taglib within embedded Jetty server

    - by fthompson
    I am writing a web application that runs within an embedded Jetty instance. When I attempt to execute a JSTL statement, I receive the following exception: org.apache.jasper.JasperException: /index.jsp(1,63) PWC6188: The absolute uri: http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core cannot be resolved in either web.xml or the jar files deployed with this application I have the following jars on the classpath ant-1.6.5.jar ant-1.7.1.jar ant-launcher-1.7.1.jar core-3.1.1.jar jetty-6.1.22.jar jetty-util-6.1.22.jar jsp-2.1-6.1.14.jar jsp-api-2.1.jar jstl-1.2.jar servlet-api-2.5-20081211.jar servlet-api-2.5-6.1.14.jar standard-1.1.2.jar My web.xml looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?> <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee h77p://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee/web-app_2_4.xsd" version="2.4"> <display-name>test</display-name> </web-app> My code looks like this: <%@ taglib prefix="c" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" %> <html> <body> <h2>Hello World!</h2> <%= new java.util.Date() %><br/> ${1+2}<br/> <c:out var="${5+9}"/><br/> </body> </html> I started my embedded Jetty server like this: Server server = new Server(80); WebAppContext context = new WebAppContext("pig-1.0-SNAPSHOT.war","/"); server.addHandler(context); server.start(); I spent the past two days experimenting with various combinations of jar files, web.xml configurations, and tag library declarations, but to no avail. How can I get an embedded Jetty server up and running with full JSTL support?

  • Asp.net MVC2 Custom jquery validation: client -side

    - by Lullaby
    Hi. I want to create a validation rule for 2 date-pickers (startDate less then endDate). I create a validation attribute: [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Class, AllowMultiple = true, Inherited = true)] public sealed class DateCompareAttribute : ValidationAttribute { private const string _defaultErrorMessage = "'{0}' is less then '{1}'."; public DateCompareAttribute(string startDateProperty, string endDateProperty) : base(_defaultErrorMessage) { StartDateProperty = startDateProperty; EndDateProperty = endDateProperty; } public string StartDateProperty { get; private set; } public string EndDateProperty { get; private set; } public override string FormatErrorMessage(string name) { return String.Format(CultureInfo.CurrentUICulture, ErrorMessageString, StartDateProperty, EndDateProperty); } public override bool IsValid(object value) { PropertyDescriptorCollection properties = TypeDescriptor.GetProperties(value); object startValue = properties.Find(StartDateProperty, true).GetValue(value); object endValue = properties.Find(EndDateProperty, true).GetValue(value); if (startValue.GetType() == typeof(DateTime?) && endValue.GetType() == typeof(DateTime?)) { var start = ((DateTime?)startValue); var end = ((DateTime?)endValue); return (start.Value < end.Value); } return false; } } and added ti to my Dto: [DateCompare("StartDate", "EndDate")] public class QualificationInput{...} I created a validator: public class DateCompareValidator : DataAnnotationsModelValidator { string startField; private string endField; string _message; public DateCompareValidator(ModelMetadata metadata, ControllerContext context , DateCompareAttribute attribute) : base(metadata, context, attribute) { startField = attribute.StartDateProperty; endField = attribute.EndDateProperty; _message = attribute.ErrorMessage; } public override IEnumerable<ModelClientValidationRule> GetClientValidationRules() { var rule = new ModelClientValidationRule { ErrorMessage = _message, ValidationType = "dateCompare" }; rule.ValidationParameters.Add("startField", startField); rule.ValidationParameters.Add("endField", endField); return new[] { rule }; } } And registered it in Global.asax.cs in Application_Start(): DataAnnotationsModelValidatorProvider .RegisterAdapter(typeof(DateCompareAttribute), typeof(DateCompareValidator)); In MicrosoftMvcJQueryValidation.js I have made this changes: switch (thisRule.ValidationType) { ..... case "dateCompare": __MVC_ApplyValidator_DateCompare(rulesObj, thisRule.ValidationParameters["startField"], thisRule.ValidationParameters["endField"]); break; ..... } .... function __MVC_ApplyValidator_DateCompare(object, startField, endField) { object["startField"] = startField; object["endField"] = endField; } jQuery.validator.addMethod("dateCompare", function(value, element, params) { if ($('#' + params["startField"]).val() < $('#' + params["endField"]).val()) { return true; } return false; }, jQuery.format("Error")); But it doesn't work :( no client side validation on this type of rule (the others type like required works fine) What I'm doing wrong?

  • Compiling a program with a legacy version of gcc

    - by wyatt
    This is probably a very difficult problem to troubleshoot with the information I can practically provide, but I'm hoping someone might be able to at least point me in a possible direction. I'm trying to install HTK (http://htk.eng.cam.ac.uk/), which, according to this page needs to be installed using gcc 3.4. Their method of implementing backwards compatibility: #yum install compat-gcc-34-c++ compat-gcc-34 won't work for me as I'm running Ubuntu (On that note, I take it I can't simply install YUM and the subsequent package, since it's an entirely different distro, but if I'm wrong I'd love to hear it). I instead installed two versions of gcc 3.4 - 3.4.0 and 3.4.6 using instructions from this site. I then added the lines suggested by that page to the top of the makefile (on this note, what's the difference between makefile and makefile.in? I tried adding the lines to the top of both files regardless), both for version 3.4.0 and 3.4.6, but both failed. I also tried, on the off-chance, compiling it with my current version (4.4.1), but that also failed. I got the errors: (cd HTKLib && make HTKLib.a) \ || case "" in k) fail=yes;; ) exit 1;; esac; make1: Entering directory /home/charles/bin/htk-3.4/HTKLib' gcc -ansi -D_SVID_SOURCE -DOSS_AUDIO -D'ARCH="i686"' -Wall -Wno-switch -g -O2 -I. -c -o HGraf.o HGraf.c HGraf.c:73:77: error: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:74:23: error: X11/Xutil.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:75:21: error: X11/Xos.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:77:27: error: X11/keysymdef.h: No such file or directory HGraf.c:87: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token HGraf.c:88: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘rootW’ HGraf.c:91: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘theCmap’ HGraf.c:92: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘theGC’ HGraf.c:93: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘gcs’ HGraf.c:95: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token HGraf.c:96: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘report’ HGraf.c:97: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘hints’ HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXcopy’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXor’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXxor’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:111: error: ‘GXinvert’ undeclared here (not in a function) HGraf.c:151: error: expected ‘=’, ‘,’, ‘;’, ‘asm’ or ‘__attribute__’ before ‘*’ token HGraf.c: In function ‘InstallFonts’: HGraf.c:164: error: ‘FontInfo’ undeclared (first use in this function) HGraf.c:164: error: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once HGraf.c:164: error: for each function it appears in.) • "The name 'WithTable' does not exist in the current context" using Fluent NHibernate

    - by Byron Sommardahl
    Might be a really easy problem to fix, but it the solution is eluding me! I'm using Fluent NHibernate 1.0 RTM (and using NHibernate bins that ships with it). I'm trying to map my entities and cannot use the WithTable() method. It's not available in Intelligence and VS doesn't suggest any namespaces to reference. Here's my code: using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using GeoCodeThe.Net.Domain.Entities; using FluentNHibernate.Mapping; namespace GeoCodeThe.Net.Domain.Mappings { class CategoryMap: ClassMap<ICategory> { public CategoryMap() { WithTable("Categories"); // <----- Compile error: The name 'WithTable' does not exist in the current context Id(x => x.Id); Map(x => x.Name); Map(x => x.Tags); } } My bin folder has: Antlr3.Runtime.dll Castle.Core.dll Castle.DynamicProxy2.dll FluentNHibernate.dll Iesi.Collections.dll log4net.dll NHibernate.ByteCode.Castle.dll NHibernate.dll FluentNHibernate.pdb Castle.Core.xml Castle.DynamicProxy2.xml FluentNHibernate.xml Iesi.Collections.xml log4net.xml NHibernate.ByteCode.Castle.xml NHibernate.xml Any clue what I'm missing? Let me know if you need any more clarification.

  • Insert custom TypeConverter on a property at runtime, from inside a custom UITypeEditor

    - by Pedery
    I've created a custom UITypeEditor. Can I possibly insert an attribute that also attaches a TypeConverter to my property from inside the UITypeEditor class? I've tried the following, but nothing happens, no matter how I twist and turn it: Attribute[] newAttributes = new Attribute[1]; newAttributes[0] = new TypeConverterAttribute(typeof(BooleanConverter)); Now, the above needs to have the following attached to it somehow: TypeDescriptor.AddAttributes(context.Instance.PROPERTYNAME, newAttributes); ...but first of all I don't know how to get to the property in question in a generic way, and all code I try just fails. Even if I try to assign the TypeConverter in this manner globally, it fails. (Setting it as an attribute on the property itself works though, just to rule out that the bug is in that part.)

    - by regulus6633
    I need to add a custom attribute to the selected text in an NSTextView. So I can do that by getting the attributed string for the selection, adding a custom attribute to it, and then replacing the selection with my new attributed string. So now I get the text view's attributed string as NSData and write it to a file. Later when I open that file and restore it to the text view my custom attributes are gone! After working out the entire scheme for my custom attribute I find that custom attributes are not saved for you. Look at the IMPORTANT note here: http://developer.apple.com/mac/library/DOCUMENTATION/Cocoa/Conceptual/AttributedStrings/Tasks/RTFAndAttrStrings.html So I have no idea how to save and restore my documents with this custom attribute. Any help?

  • ejb testing issues with netbeans and openejb

    - by SibzTer
    I have created a netbeans 6.7 EnterpriseApplication project with ejb and war modules with a test stateless session ejb with a simple sayHello() method. I also added the openEjb library in order to unit test the ejb. Everything runs fine except that I keep getting the following error: Testsuite: com.myapp.test.NewEmptyJUnitTest Apache OpenEJB 3.1.1 build: 20090530-06:18 http://openejb.apache.org/ INFO - openejb.home = C:\Users\me\Documents\NetBeansProjects\TestEnterpriseApp\TestEnterpriseApp-ejb INFO - openejb.base = C:\Users\me\Documents\NetBeansProjects\TestEnterpriseApp\TestEnterpriseApp-ejb INFO - Configuring Service(id=Default Security Service, type=SecurityService, provider-id=Default Security Service) INFO - Configuring Service(id=Default Transaction Manager, type=TransactionManager, provider-id=Default Transaction Manager) INFO - Found ClientModule in classpath: C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.7.1\java2\ant\lib\ant.jar INFO - Found ClientModule in classpath: C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.7.1\java2\ant\lib\ant-launcher.jar INFO - Found EjbModule in classpath: C:\Users\me\Documents\NetBeansProjects\TestEnterpriseApp\TestEnterpriseApp-ejb\build\jar INFO - Found ClientModule in classpath: C:\Users\me\Documents\NetBeansProjects\TestEnterpriseApp\lib\OpenEJB\xml-resolver-1.2.jar INFO - Found ClientModule in classpath: C:\Users\me\Documents\Downloads\glassfish\lib\webservices-tools.jar INFO - Beginning load: C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.7.1\java2\ant\lib\ant.jar INFO - Beginning load: C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.7.1\java2\ant\lib\ant-launcher.jar INFO - Beginning load: C:\Users\me\Documents\NetBeansProjects\TestEnterpriseApp\TestEnterpriseApp-ejb\build\jar INFO - Beginning load: C:\Users\me\Documents\NetBeansProjects\TestEnterpriseApp\lib\OpenEJB\xml-resolver-1.2.jar INFO - Beginning load: C:\Users\me\Documents\Downloads\glassfish\lib\webservices-tools.jar INFO - Configuring enterprise application: classpath.ear WARN - No application-client.xml found assuming annotations present: classpath.ear, module: ant.jar WARN - No application-client.xml found assuming annotations present: classpath.ear, module: ant-launcher.jar WARN - No application-client.xml found assuming annotations present: classpath.ear, module: xml-resolver-1.2.jar WARN - No application-client.xml found assuming annotations present: classpath.ear, module: webservices-tools.jar java.lang.Exception: Could not load 1/0/com/sun/codemodel/CodeWriter.class at org.apache.xbean.finder.ClassFinder.readClassDef(ClassFinder.java:730) .... • C#: Insert custom TypeConverter on a property at runtime, from inside a custom UITypeEditor

  • Adding AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers with MSBuild

    - by Ben Rice
    I am using CC.Net with MSBuild tasks to build an application that is composed of a number of solutions and projects. We are using the AssemblyInfo MSBuild Community task to update version info in AssemblyInfo.cs. Unfortunately the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute doesn't get in and the AssemblyInfo task tells me that the AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute is not supported by the task. Is there any way to add that attribute through MSBuild without having to resort to a custom task that just tacks the line at the end of the file after-the-fact?

  • XSLT 1.0 help with recursion logic

    - by DashaLuna
    Hello guys, I'm having troubles with the logic and would apprecite any help/tips. I have <Deposits> elements and <Receipts> elements. However there isn't any identification what receipt was paid toward what deposit. I am trying to update the <Deposits> elements with the following attributes: @DueAmont - the amount that is still due to pay @Status - whether it's paid, outstanding (partly paid) or due @ReceiptDate - the latest receipt's date that was paid towards this deposit Every deposit could be paid with one or more receipts. It also could happen, that 1 receipt could cover one or more deposits. For example. If there are 3 deposits: 500 100 450 That are paid with the following receipts: 200 100 250 I want to get the following info: Deposit 1 is fully paid (status=paid, dueAmount=0, receiptNum=3. Deposit 2 is partly paid (status=outstanding, dueAmount=50, receiptNum=3. Deposit 3 is not paid (status=due, dueAmount=450, receiptNum=NAN. I've added comments in the code explaining what I'm trying to do. I am staring at this code for the 3rd day now non stop - can't see what I'm doing wrong. Please could anyone help me with it? :) Thanks! • COMPLETE list of HTML tag attributes which have a URL value?

    - by system PAUSE
    Besides the following, are there any HTML tag attributes that have a URL as their value? href attribute on tags: <link>, <a>, <area> src attribute on tags: <img>, <iframe>, <frame>, <embed>, <script>, <input> action attribute on tags: <form> data attribute on tags: <object> Looking for tags in wide usage, including non-standard tags and old browsers as well as HTML 4.01, HTML 5, and XHTML. Yes this question is kinda lightweight, but I googled around for about 45 minutes and didn't find this data centralized anywhere, so I figure it might help some other developer to have it here. Plus I'm sure I'm missing something. Feel free to repeat/reorganize this list in your answer. Upvoting the most complete answers will probably be most helpful to others.

  • Why can't I use WCF DataContract and ISerializable on the same class?

    - by Dave
    Hi all, I have a class that I need to be able to serialize to a SQLServer session variable and be available over a WCF Service. I have declared it as follows namespace MyNM { [Serializable] [DataContract(Name = "Foo", Namespace = "http://www.mydomain.co.uk")] public class Foo : IEntity, ISafeCopy<Foo> { [DataMember(Order = 0)] public virtual Guid Id { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 1)] public virtual string a { get; set; } DataMember(Order = 2)] public virtual Bar c { get; set; } /* ISafeCopy implementation */ } [Serializable] [DataContract(Name = "Bar ", Namespace = "http://www.mydomain.co.uk")] public class Bar : IEntity, ISafeCopy<Bar> { #region Implementation of IEntity DataMember(Order = 0)] public virtual Guid Id { get; set; } [DataMember(Order = 1)] public virtual Baz y { get; set; } #endregion /* ISafeCopy implementation*/ } [Serializable] [DataContract] public enum Baz { [EnumMember(Value = "one")] one, [EnumMember(Value = "two")] two, [EnumMember(Value = "three")] three } But when I try and call this service, I get the following error in the trace log. "System.Runtime.Serialization.InvalidDataContractException: Type 'BarProxybcb100e8617f40ceaa832fe4bb94533c' cannot be ISerializable and have DataContractAttribute attribute." If I take out the Serializable attribute, the WCF service works, but when the object can't be serialized to session. If I remove the DataContract attribute from class Bar, the WCF service fails saying Type 'BarProxy3bb05a31167f4ba492909ec941a54533' with data contract name 'BarProxy3bb05a31167f4ba492909ec941a54533:http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07/' is not expected. Add any types not known statically to the list of known types - for example, by using the KnownTypeAttribute attribute or by adding them to the list of known types passed to DataContractSerializer I've tried adding a KnownType attribute to the foo class [KnownType(typeof(Bar))] But I still get the same error. Can anyone help me out with this? Many thanks Dave

  • Why is 1px sometimes 2px when specified in Android XML?

    - by Daniel Lew
    I've got a desire for a one-pixel divider line, just for looks. I thought I could accomplish this using a View of height 1px, with a defined background. However, I'm getting some very odd behavior on different devices - sometimes the 1px ends up as 2px. Take this sample layout for example: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> <View android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="1px" android:background="@android:color/white" android:layout_marginBottom="4dp" /> </LinearLayout> When run on my G1, this comes out fine. But on the Nexus One, it alternates between 1px lines and 2px lines. Does anyone know where this is going awry? Why does Android sometimes make 1px into 2px?

  • Dynamics CRM 4.0 Campaign Response Workflow issue

    - by Brett
    Hi I am pretty novice when it comes to CRM so hopefully someone can help me. I am trying to create a workflow that triggers when the campaign response is set to closed and then updates a few fields within the related 'Customers' record. I would have imagined that this would have been straight forward. However, when creating my workflow it appears that the 'Customer' is not in the related entitities list and therefore I cannot set the fields I require updating. I imagine that the issue is to do with the 'Customer' attribute being similar to the 'To'/'From' attributes on an email/phone call activity, whereas I need the attribute to resemble the 'Regarding' attribute. I presume I could create an attribute to replace 'customer' and apply all the appropriate relationships, but I dont really want to do this. Is there a simple way to get around this and/or am I missing something? Cheers

  • ASP.NET MVC - Data Annotations - Why add a default RequiredAttribute?

    - by redsquare
    Can anyone explain why it is assumed that a non nullable type property should always have a RequiredAttribue? I am trying to write a label helper that will auto append * or change the css class so that I can indicate to the user that the field is required. However when querying the metadata the non nullable properties end up with a required attribute. MVC Source Code: protected override IEnumerable<ModelValidator> GetValidators( ModelMetadata metadata, ControllerContext context, IEnumerable<Attribute> attributes) { _adaptersLock.EnterReadLock(); try { List<ModelValidator> results = new List<ModelValidator>(); if (metadata.IsRequired && !attributes.Any(a => a is RequiredAttribute)) { //******* Why Do this? attributes = attributes.Concat(new[] { new RequiredAttribute() }); } foreach (ValidationAttribute attribute in attributes.OfType<ValidationAttribute>()) { DataAnnotationsModelValidationFactory factory; if (!_adapters.TryGetValue(attribute.GetType(), out factory)) factory = _defaultFactory; results.Add(factory(metadata, context, attribute)); } return results; } finally { _adaptersLock.ExitReadLock(); } }

  • Flex - Issues retrieving an XMLList

    - by BS_C3
    Hello! I'm having a problem retrieving a XMLList and I don't understand why. I have an application that is running properly. It uses some data from two xml files called division.xml and store.xml. I noticed that I have some data in division.xml that should be in store.xml, so I did a copy/paste of the data from one file to the other. This is the data I copied: <stores> <store> <odeis>101</odeis> <name></name> <password></password> <currency></currency> <currSymbol></currSymbol> </store> <store> <odeis>102</odeis> <name></name> <password></password> <currency></currency> <currSymbol></currSymbol> </store> </stores> In the application, I list all odeis codes and I need to retrieve the block store corresponding to the selected odeis code. Before moving the data into store.xml, this is how I retrieved the block: var node:XMLList = divisionData.division.(@name==HomePageData.instance.divisionName).stores.store.(odeis == HomePageData.instance.storeCodeOdeis) This is how I retrieve it after copying the data into store.xml: var node:XMLList = storeData.stores.(@name==HomePageData.instance.divisionName).store.(odeis == HomePageData.instance.storeCodeOdeis) And I'm currently getting the following error: ReferenceError: Error #1065: The variable odeis is not defined. Could anyone enlighten me? Cause I really have no clue of why it is not working... Thanks for any tips you can give. Regards, BS_C3

  • .NET Declarative Security: Why is SecurityAction.Deny impossible to work with?

    - by rally25rs
    I've been messing with this for about a day and a half now sifting through .NET reflector and MSDN docs, and can't figure anything out... As it stands in the .NET framework, you can demand that the current Principal belong to a role to be able to execute a method by marking a method like this: [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Role = "CanEdit")] public void Save() { ... } I am working with an existing security model that already has a "ReadOnly" role defined, so I need to do exactly the opposite of above... block the Save() method if a user is in the "ReadOnly" role. No problem, right? just flip the SecurityAction to .Deny: [PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Deny, Role = "ReadOnly")] public void Save() { ... } Well, it turns out that this does nothing at all. The method still runs fine. It seems that the PrincipalPermissionAttribute defines: public override IPermission CreatePermission() But when the attribute is set to SecurityAction.Deny, this method is never called, so no IPermission object is ever created. Does anyone know of a way to get .Deny to work? I've been trying to make a custom secutiry attribute, but even that doesn't work. I tried to get tricky and do: public class MyPermissionAttribute : CodeAccessSecurityAttribute { private SecurityAction securityAction; public MyPermissionAttribute(SecurityAction action) : base(SecurityAction.Demand) { if (action != SecurityAction.Demand && action != SecurityAction.Deny) throw new ArgumentException("Unsupported SecurityAction. Only Demand and Deny are supported."); this.securityAction = action; } public override IPermission CreatePermission() { // do something based on the SecurityAction... } } Notice my attribute constructor always passes SecurityAction.Demand, which is the one action that would work previously. However, even in this case, the CreatePermission() method is still only called when the attribute is set to .Demand, and not .Deny! Maybe the runtime is actually checking the attribute instead of the SecurityAction passed to the CodeAccessSecurityAttribute constructor? I'm not sure what else to try here... anyone have any ideas? You wouldn't think it would be that hard to deny method access based on a role, instead of only demanding it. It really disturbed me that the default PrincipalPermission appears from within an IDE like it would be just fine doing a .Deny, and there is like a 1-liner in the MSDN docs that hint that it won't work. You would think the PrincipalPermissionAttribute constructor would throw an exception immediately if anything other that .Demand is specified, since that could create a big security hole! I never would have realized that .Deny does nothing at all if I hadn't been unit testing! Again, all this stems from having to deal with an existing security model that has a "ReadOnly" role that needs to be denied access, instead of doing it the other way around, where I cna just grant access to a role. Thanks for any help! Quick followup: I can actually make my custom attribute work by doing this: public class MyPermissionAttribute : CodeAccessSecurityAttribute { public SecurityAction SecurityAction { get; set; } public MyPermissionAttribute(SecurityAction action) : base(action) { } public override IPermission CreatePermission() { switch(this.SecurityAction) { ... } // check Demand or Deny } } And decorating the method: [MyPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, SecurityAction = SecurityAction.Deny, Role = "ReadOnly")] public void Save() { ... } But that is terribly ugly, since I'm specifying both Demand and Deny in the same attribute. But it does work... Another interesting note: My custom class extends CodeAccessSecurityAttribute, which in turn only extends SecurityAttribute. If I cnage my custom class to directly extend SecurityAttribute, then nothing at all works. So it seems the runtime is definately looking for only CodeAccessSecurityAttribute instances in the metadata, and does something funny with the SecurityAction specified, even if a custom constructor overrides it.

  • Inheritance of Custom Attributes on Abstract Properties

    - by Marty Trenouth
    I've got a custom attribute that I want to apply to my base abstract class so that I can skip elements that don't need to be viewed by the user when displaying the item in HTML. It seems that the properties overriding the base class are not inheriting the attributes. Does overriding base properties (abstract or virtual) blow away attributes placed on the original property? From Attribute class Defination [AttributeUsage(AttributeTargets.Property, Inherited = true, AllowMultiple = false)] public class NoHtmlOutput : Attribute { } From Abstract Class Defination [NoHtmlOutput] public abstract Guid UniqueID { get; set; } From Concrete Class Defination public override Guid UniqueID{ get{ return MasterId;} set{MasterId = value;}} From class checking for attribute Type t = o.GetType(); foreach (PropertyInfo pi in t.GetProperties()) { if (pi.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(NoHtmlOutput), true).Length == 1) continue; // processing logic goes here }
