  • Issues Converting Plain Text Into Microsoft Word Bulleted Lists

    I'm a programmer. I hate status reports. I found a way to live with it. While I am working in my IDE ( Visual Slickedit ) I keep a plain text file open in one of the file/buffer tabs. As I finish things I just jot down a quick note into that file. At the end of the week that becomes my weekly status report. Example entries: The Datatables.net plugin runs very slowly in IE 8 with more than 2,000 records. I changed the way I did the server side code to process the data to make less work for the plugin to get decent performance for the IE 8 users. I made a class to wrap data from the new data collection objects into the legacy data holder objects. This will let the new database code be backward compatible with the legacy code until we can replace it. I found the bug reported by Jane. The software is fine. The database we use for the test site has data that is corrupted in a way it wouldn't be for production site At the end of the month I go back to each weekly *.txt file and paste all of the entries into a MS Word file for a monthly report. I give the monthly report to a liason to the contracting company who has to compile everyone's monthly reports into a single MS Word 2007 document. His problem, soon to be my problem, comes when he highlights my paragraphs like the ones above to put bullets in front of my paragraphs. When he highlights my notes to put bullets in front of them with MS Word 2007, Word rearranges the text a bit and the new line chars/carriage returns stagger the text so the text is no longer in neat chunks. It just puts some kind of newline character in anyway. Searching/Replacing those chars in the text files has the result of destroying the paragraphs. Once my notes are pasted into MS Word, Word automatically translates them into paragraph breaks. Searching/Replacing them there has similar results. Blank lines separating the notes disappears. One big mess. What I would like is to be able to keep adding my status notes to a text file as I am now, but do something different when I paste the notes into MS Word such that my liason can select the text, hit the bulleting command and NOT have the staggered text as shown above. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is 07:00:37 up 11:30, 0 users, load average: 14.64, 16.79, 20.07" I don't know, I have tried switching these config values many different times, but nothing seems to work.   • Nginx & Apache Cannot get try_files to work with permalinks

    I have been working on this for the past two weeks not and for some reason I cannot seem to get nginx's try_files to work with my wordpress permalinks. I am hoping someone will be able to tell me where I am going wrong and also hopefully tell me if I made any major errors with my configurations as well (I am an nginx newbie... but learning :) ).   • Why am I unable to telnet to a local port that has a listening service?

    I suspect this is either a very simple question, or a very complex one. I have a headless server running ubuntu 10.04 that I can ssh into. I have full root access to the system. I am trying to set up an ssh tunnel to allow me to vnc to the system (but that isn't my question. I have vnc running on port 5903, here is the netstat output for that: Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:5903 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 7173/Xtightvnc tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 465/sshd But when I try to telnet to that port, from within the same system and login, I get unable to connect errors # telnet localhost 5903 Trying ::1... Trying 127.0.0.1... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out I am able to telnet to port 22 (as a verification) ~# telnet localhost 22 Trying ::1... Connected to localhost. Which I pretty much knew. The question remains what is blocking it and how to modify. Re-re-edit: To check Paul Lathrop's suggested answer, I first verified my ip address with ifconfig: eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 02:16:3e:42:28:8f inet addr:10.0.10.3 Bcast:10.0.10.255 Mask:255.255.255.0 Then tried to telnet to 5903 from that address: # telnet 10.0.10.3 5903 Trying 10.0.10.3... telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out No luck. Re-re-re-re-edit: Ok, I think I have isolated it a bit to vncserver, not the firewall, darn it. I shut off vncserver and had netcat listen on port 5903. My vnc client then was able to establish a connnection and sit and wait for a response. Looks like I should be chasing a vnc problem. At least that is progress Thanks for the help

It only applies to the x64 build of my project, x86 still works fine. Apparently, it tries to build a x64 interop assembly from the x86 DLL located in "C:\Assemblies". When executing the TlbImp command with the x64 DLL which is located in a different directory, it works fine. However, I don't know how I can configure my project to use different COM references for the x86 and x64 build. The OS on which the project is being compiled is WinXP x86. Building worked fine when using VS2005 + MSBuild 3.5 Any help would be highly appreciated. I tried building the upgraded project with MSBuild v3.5, but that doesn't work either. It complains about unknown NoWarn codes (probably new in 4.0).

I've used this instance of code plenty of times and all worked fine, but now, for some reason that I cant figure out, I am completely unable to read anything from the serial port. But... when I do a read afterwards, I get a "Resource Temporarily Unavailable" error from errno. I tested select to see when the file descriptor had something t read... but it always times out! I read data like this: ret = read(hCom, rxchar, n); and I always get an EAGAIN and I have no idea why. All help would be appreciated. Cheers

    This is really causing me fits. I put a toolbar on the IUView on the iPad. I added the following: Search Bar (not Search Bar and Search Display) to the toolbar. I set the options to be as follows: Show Cancel Button, Show Scope Bar, Scope Button Titles are: "Title1" and "Title2" (with Title2's radio button selected). Opaque, Clear Context and Auto Resize are checked. I hooked up the delegate of Search Bar to the "File's Owner" and linked it to IBOutlet theSearchBar. In my viewWillAppear I have the following: [theSearchBar setScopeButtonTitles:[NSArray arrayWithObjects:@"Near Me",@"Everywhere",nil]]; //Just in case: [theSearchBar setShowsScopeBar:YES]; //doesn't seem to do anything: //[theSearchBar sizeToFit]; searchDisplayController = [[UISearchDisplayController alloc] initWithSearchBar:theSearchBar contentsController:self]; [self setSearchDisplayController:searchDisplayController]; [searchDisplayController setDelegate:self]; [searchDisplayController setSearchResultsDataSource:self]; //again--does not seem to do anything..but people have suggested it: [theSearchBar sizeToFit]; Okay, so far, I thought, so good. My issue: I have yet to implement the delegates necessary to do the search but still... shouldn't I be seeing the scopeBar next to the search field when I click into the search field? Just so you know I DO see the log of the characters I type, so the delegate is working. (not that i expect anything other than "No Results Found". I am wondering where the scope bar is supposed to appear...in the titleView of the UIPopover? In the toolbar to the right of the search area? Where?

  • facebook iframe stream.Publish cannot close dialog or skip

    am pulling my hair over this :( spent 10 hrs but nothing came out I read this thread http://forum.developers.facebook.com/viewtopic.php?pid=198128 but it didn't help much. I'm running a local dev App Engine server ( localhost:8080 ) iframe app so I have a couple of problems. 1) on safari 4.0.4, the publish story dialog comes up nicely with all images/data/action_links. upon posting a story (or skipping), the dialog goes blank and wouldn't close. 2) I tested the same code on firefox 3.5.8, the dialog comes up with all images/data/action_links, but then the whole thing freezes. Clicking anywhere on the dialog doesn't help at all. If i'm patient enough and click "publish", I have to wait for abt 10 seconds before the dialog says "story is published". then it freezes. (clicking on skip doesn't make a difference). btw, there is no "button clicking effect" : ie: the buttons don't look like they "sink down" upon clicking. I checked the firefox memory using the command "top" on the terminal, it all seems okay, no spike in CPU processes ( i could open other firefox tabs and work on them) My futile attempts at solving the problems... 1) so i thought, hmm could this be because of local dev (localhost) problem? I uploaded the code to the production server, the same thing happens. 2) I tried an older firefox (3.1) and the same problem persisted ( the freezing ) 3) I noticed that i kind of used 2 different FB features ( Connect and XFBML). The Connect Feature I used in the PostStory function. The XFBML feature I used before the tag. So I thought, hmm ... I tried replacing the FB_RequireFeatures["Connect"] feature with FB_RequireFeatures["XFBML"]. nothing changed.   • Selenium Webdriver (FirefoxDriver)

    Hey all, I'm using Selenium Webdriver to do some robottesting. Since some functions appear to only work in Firefox, I'm obligated to use Firefoxdriver. Now and then, something weird happens. Starting up te driver driver = new FirefoxDriver(); driver.get(URL); gets firefox to startup but not to go to the specified url. The strange thing is that it works on another computer with the same preferences set in Firefox. I solved this problem once by changing to another version of firefox, but this time this doesn't do the trick for me, it did however worked for the other developers. Yes, the error started for all developers on the same time, same day... My first question is: is it a firefox problem or Webdriver problem.   • Dojox grid having problem with Contentpane

    the grid appears properly on template's first loading. But when you click the paging button to load flooders.php thru list_result1() only the paging buttons will appear.   • Drools flow architecture, Drools flow events with AND join nodes

    I have been evaluating a number of frameworks including jBPM and Drools flow for my application requirements. Lots of the opinions seem to be inclined towards Drools flow as its more flexible, knowledge oriented, easier to integrate with business rules, etc.. The application is some sort of an Email Campaign manager , where different customers can sign in, prepare (design) and launch email campaigns. The application should be able to do the following : 1- Receive a list of email addresses, send emails to each of these addresses starting from a certain date and during a certain time interval of the day , do some custom actions, and then wait for reply emails. 2- If a reply email is received and depending on the response text of the email , and depending on the time the email was received certain actions need to happen, web service calls need to take place, and error handling for these calls. 3- The application will manage and run many and different campaigns (different customers and different flows for each customer) at any point of time. The first question is : Is Drools flow the way to go about this? My main concerns are scalability, suspending, resuming flows, and long wait, and flows management. As you see from the requirements : There is a scheduling part : Certain flows need to be run at a certain point in time, they need to get suspended and then resumed. For example start sending emails starting on Dec 1st 2010 and send emails only in the time interval between 08:00 and 17:00 GMT. By then it might be that all subscribers have been sent emails, but it might not be the case, the process needs to (resume) on Dec 2nd and send a second batch, however certain (users) already received emails and they should be able to (continue at different stages of the flow) There are long wait states : Days or even weeks , i need to persist, suspend / resume and terminate flows (manage flows) External Events : This is where i got stuck first, i tried to put together a simple flow (see attached screenshot) See image http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/9620/workflowwithevents.png , there is a start node , connected to an action node, connected to a join. An event node is connected to a second action node, which is connected to the join. The join is an AND join , after the join there is an action and the end node. The flow does not continue past the AND join and the flow seems to get stuck. The action following the node does not get triggered. I also went through the drools flow documentation , and all the example codes, however i didn't find anything there. In addition any hints about the way to go about architecting the solution, and implementing it would be great.

  • How can I do something ~after~ an event has fired in C#?

    I'm using the following project to handle global keyboard and mouse hooking in my C# application. This project is basically a wrapper around the Win API call SetWindowsHookEx using either the WH_MOUSE_LL or WH_KEYBOARD_LL constants. It also manages certain state and generally makes this kind of hooking pretty pain free. I'm using this for a mouse gesture recognition software I'm working on. Basically, I have it setup so it detects when a global hotkey is pressed down (say CTRL), then the user moves the mouse in the shape of a pre-defined gesture and then releases global hotkey. The event for the KeyDown is processed and tells my program to start recording the mouse locations until it receives the KeyUp event. This is working fine and it allows an easy way for users to enter a mouse-gesture mode. Once the KeyUp event fires and it detects the appropriate gesture, it is suppose to send certain keystrokes to the active window that the user has defined for that particular gesture they just drew. I'm using the SendKeys.Send/SendWait methods to send output to the current window. My problem is this: When the user releases their global hotkey (say CTRL), it fires the KeyUp event. My program takes its recorded mouse points and detects the relevant gesture and attempts to send the correct input via SendKeys. However, because all of this is in the KeyUp event, that global hotkey hasn't finished being processed. So, for example if I defined a gesture to send the key "A" when it is detected, and my global hotkey is CTRL, when it is detected SendKeys will send "A" but while CTRL is still "down". So, instead of just sending A, I'm getting CTRL-A. So, in this example, instead of physically sending the single character "A" it is selecting-all via the CTRL-A shortcut. Even though the user has released the CTRL (global hotkey), it is still being considered down by the system. Once my KeyUp event fires, how can I have my program wait some period of time or for some event so I can be sure that the global hotkey is truly no longer being registered by the system, and only then sending the correct input via SendKeys?

    I'm using a fluid layout in the new theme that I'm working on for my blog. I often blog about code and include <pre> blocks within the posts. The float: left column for the content area has a max-width so that the column stops at a certain maximum width and can also be shrunk: +----------+ +------+ | text | | text | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | +----------+ +------+ max shrunk What I want is for the <pre> elements to be wider than the text column so that I can fit 80-character-wrapped code without horizontal scroll bars. But I want the <pre> elements to overflow from the content area, without affecting its fluidity: +----------+ +------+ | text | | text | | | | | +----------+--+ +------+------+ | code | | code | +----------+--+ +------+------+ | | | | +----------+ +------+ max shrunk But, max-width stops being fluid once I insert the overhanging <pre> in there: the width of the column remains at the specified max-width even when I shrink the browser beyond that width. I'm observing the same problem on Firefox/Chrome/Safari/Opera. IE6 (the crazy one) seems happy all the time. This also doesn't seem dependent on quirks/standards mode. Update I've done further testing to observe that max-width seems to get ignored when the element has a float: left. I glanced at the W3C box model chapter but couldn't immediately see an explicit mention of this behaviour. Any pointers?

    I have a problem that I have not faced before: It seems that the order of interpretation in my program is somehow different from what I expect. I have written a small Twitter client. It takes a few seconds for my program to actually post a tweet after I click the "GO" button (which can also be activated by hitting ENTER on the keyboard). I don't want to click multiple times within this time period thinking that I hadn't clicked it the first time. Therefore, when the button is clicked, I would like the label text to display something that tells me that the button has been clicked. I have implemented this message by altering the label text before I send the tweet across. However, for some reason, the message does not display until the tweet has been attempted. But since I have a confirmation message after the tweet, I never get to see this message and my original problem goes unsolved. I would really appreciate any help.     I'm trying to add weights to search terms I'm using to filter a queryset. Using the '%' wildcard is causing me some problems. I'm using the extra() modifier to add a weight parameter to the queryset, which I will be using to inform a sort ordering. (See http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.1/ref/models/querysets/#extra-select-none-where-none-params-none-tables-none-order-by-none-select-params-none ) Here's the gist of the code: def viewname(request) ... exact_matchstrings="" exact_matchstrings.append("(accountprofile.first_name LIKE '" + term + "')") exact_matchstrings.append("(accountprofile.first_name LIKE '" + term + '\%' + "')") extraquerystring = " + ".join(exact_matchstrings) return_queryset = return_queryset.extra( select = { 'match_weight': extraquerystring }, ) The effect I'm going for is that if the search term matches exactly, the weight associated with the record is 2, but if the term merely starts with the search term and isn't an exact match, the weight is 1. (for example, if 'term' = 'Jon', an entry with first_name='Jon' gets a weight of 2 but an entry with an entry with first_name = 'Jonathan' gets a weight of 1.) I can test the statement in SQL and it seems to work well enough.   • Default Database Collations got messed up

    I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with XAMPP ( Lampp "MYSQL 5.1.45 PHPMYADMIN 3.3.1 PHP 5.3.2 ) What my problem is, is that I set up my testing env to debug my scripts locally and when I did so there arose a problem. This problem is that I used firefox's addon SQLinject ME to test for weakness' and upon doing so it caused mysql to change the default local collations; character sets dir /opt/lampp/share/mysql/charsets/ collation connection latin1_general_ci (Global value) latin1_swedish_ci collation database latin1_swedish_ci collation server latin1_swedish_ci I have searched for quite sometime in regards to a solution to this problem and have come up with searching for the db.opt file which stores this information without success. Upon not finding a solution I removed lampp with the "sudo rm -fR /opt" command and reinstall and the problem still persists. I have tried to change the collations manually and still come up with the database displaying latin1_swedish_ci as the default language. Why is this a problem?? Why is it a problem with mysql? Because the application I am testing and debugging locally is built on the CodeIgnitor with Smarty framework and since this combination of framework is built to detect the LOCALES, Rather what the database defaults are I keep getting errors saying no language file for swedish...... Of course I could get the swedish language file to work around this problem but I do not feel the need to make this work around a perminant solution as with time when I move on to projects I will run into simular problems every time that A; When importing database files, backups etc it will default to import such databases as the locale swedish. B; As time passes on I might completly forget of this error and will be back to square one. I have found this code in searches for a fix,which seems to alter the tables to a desired Collaion; $value) { mysql_query("ALTER TABLE $value COLLATE latin1_general_ci"); }} echo "The collation of your database has been successfully changed!"; ? Which is handy to switch collations in One Schema at a time however this is not a fix when a framework doesnt care that the said database is in one langugae. It tests for the Default of the entire server. Someone with any knowledge of a purge or fix to this I would greatly appricate the help. One more final note is that when I was testing I only figured to back up the applications DataBase and not the entire Schema of the install. No matter if I uninstall or reinstall the database still seems to carry these problems.
