  Devfish Joe Healy, Brian Hitney, and Herve Rogero presented excellent sessions on today's MSDN Tiki Hut Event about  Cloud Computing and Azure. This was an developer focused event, starting out with an overview about structure and platform, followed by working code samples running on the platform, and all needed information to get developers started on development for cloud applications. Participants had Q&A opportunities after each session and made good use of it. I am sure that a lot of developers will jump on the Azure train. Azure is on top of my dev project list after that great event! This platform offers endless opportunities for development and businesses.   Yesterday we had very first SQL Bangalore User Group meeting and I was asked following question right after the session. “How do we know if today is a weekend or weekday using SQL Server Functions?” Well, I assume most of us are using SQL Server 2012 so I will suggest following solution. I am using SQL Server 2012′s CHOOSE function. It is SELECT GETDATE() Today, DATENAME(dw, GETDATE()) DayofWeek, CHOOSE(DATEPART(dw, GETDATE()), 'WEEKEND','Weekday', 'Weekday','Weekday','Weekday','Weekday','WEEKEND') WorkDay GO You can use the choose function on table as well. Here is the quick example of the same.   This is a short notice, but still… I'm giving my IoC and DI with WebForms presentation at the New York Code Camp tomorrow. Instead of walking away with a "this is only a demo; don't try it at home" excuse, I actually have a read-world example to go through. There exists an entrenched belief that there's only one way to develop with WebForms, i.e. rely on the crunch of view state, postbacks, session, etc. I beg to differ. • PowerShell Try Catch Finally

  PowerShell Try Catch Finally I am a relative novice to PowerShell and tried (pun intended) to use the “Try Catch Finally” in my scripts. Alas the structure that we love and use in C# (or even – shudder of shudders - in VB) does not always work in PowerShell. It turns out that it works only when the error is a terminating error (whatever that means). Well, you can turn all your errors to the terminating kind by simply setting - $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop", And later resetting it back to “Continue”, which is its normal setting. Now, the lazy approach is to start all your scripts with: $ErrorActionPreference = "Stop" And ending all of them with: $ErrorActionPreference = "Continue" But this opens you to trouble because should your script have an error that you neglected to catch (it even happens to me!), your session will now have all its errors as “terminating”. Obviously this is not a good thing, so instead let’s put these two setups in the beginning of each Try block and in the Finally block as seen below: That’s All Folks!!

  I am new to ubuntu. Hence please forgive me if the question is too simple. I have a ubuntu server setup using amazon ec2 instance. I need to connect my desktop (which is also a ubuntu machine) to the ubuntu server using SSH. I have installed open-ssh in ubuntu server. I need all systems of my network to connect the ubuntu server using SSH (no need to connect through pem or pub keys). Hence opened SSH port 22 for my static IP in security groups (AWS).   I have an encrypted homedir (ecryptfs) and I'm wanting to run a private mysql daemon with the database files in my homedir. The daemon should be started whenever the homedir is mounted, and stopped before the homedir is unmounted. It seems I have to write an Upstart script, which doesn't seem too hard; the problem is triggering it. Is there already any Upstart event that is sent on these occasions? Or must I insert an "initctl emit" somewhere? Where? It seems the encrypted homedir is mounted whenever I either open my GUI session or ssh to my account. Is there a common place in these two processes where I might insert code? (I don't want to patch and compile any C code, just insert maybe a few lines somewere.) David

• How do i find out which program is using internet and how much?

  Sometimes there are unusual Internet activity in my Computer. Modem's lights are always blinking and When I open system monitor, I see there some unknown program is using my precious Internet with 64KB/S (I have 512kbps connection). Still I am in a firefox session with only one tab opened, and the page in already loaded and there is no indication of busy sign in the page (that rotating orange circle). In that situation I unplug my modem and reconnect it again. After several times doing this, that unusual activity stops. It annoys me very much. How can I find out the process which is using the Internet?. How much they are using? How can I kill it? A graphical solution will be better.
