  • HttpClient POST fails to submit the form

    Hi, I'm writing an app to check for the bus timetable's. Therefor I need to post some data to a html page, submit it, and parse the resulting page with htmlparser. I also find it confusing, for example, that when I enter the data by hand, the url says, for example, "....HTO=Kaiserplatz&...", but in Firebug, the same Kaiserplatz is connected to a different field, in this case: \<\td class="Start3" Kaiserplatz <\/td (I inserted \ to make it visible) The last line in my code prints the html page, but without having send a request.. it's printed as if there was no input at all...   • Silverlight Recruiting Application Part 5 - Jobs Module / View

    Now we starting getting into a more code-heavy portion of this series, thankfully though this means the groundwork is all set for the most part and after adding the modules we will have a complete application that can be provided with full source. The Jobs module will have two concerns- adding and maintaining jobs that can then be broadcast out to the website. How they are displayed on the site will be handled by our admin system (which will just poll from this common database), so we aren't too concerned with that, but rather with getting the information into the system and allowing the backend administration/HR users to keep things up to date. When this is all set, the view calls that familiar MakeMeActive method to activate itself. I made a bit of a management call on making views self-activate like this, but I figured it works for one reason. As I create this application, views may not exist that I have in mind, so after a view receives its 'ping' from being subscribed to an event, it prepares whatever it needs to do and then goes active. This way if I don't have 'edit' hooked up, I can click as the day is long on the main view and won't get lost in an empty region. Total personal preference here. :) Everything else should again be pretty straightforward, although I do a bit of validation checking in the AddEditJobCommand, which can either fire off an event back to the main view/viewmodel if everything is a success or sent a list of errors to our notification module, which pops open a RadWindow with the alerts if any exist. Once we hit the xAddEditButton_Click on line 40, we're still doing pretty much the same things except instead of checking the ValidationHelper errors, we both run a check on the current activeJob object as well as check the ValidationSummary errors list. Once that is set, we again use the callback of context.SubmitChanges (lines 68 and 78) to create an ActionHistory which we will use to track these items down the line. That's all? Essentially... yes. If you look back through this post, most of the code and adventures we have taken were just to get things working in the MVVM/Prism setup. Since I have the whole 'module' self-contained in a single JobView+code-behind setup, I don't have to worry about things like sending events off into space for someone to pick up, communicating through an Infrastructure project, or even re-inventing events to be used with attached behaviors. Everything just kinda works, and again with much less code. Here's a picture of the MVVM and Code-behind versions on the Jobs and AddEdit views, but since the functionality is the same in both apps you still cannot tell them apart (for two-strike): Looking ahead, the Applicants module is effectively the same thing as the Jobs module, so most of the code is being cut-and-pasted back and forth with minor tweaks here and there. So that one is being taken care of by me behind the scenes.   • PowerShell: Read Excel to Create Inserts

    I’m writing a series of articles on how to migrate “departmental” data into SQL Server. I also hold workshops on the entire process – from discovering that the data exists to the modeling process and then how to design the Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) process. Finally I write about (and teach) a few methods on actually moving the data. One of those options is to use PowerShell. There are a lot of ways even with that choice, but the one I show is to read two columns from the spreadsheet and output statements that would insert the data using a stored procedure. Of course, you could re-write this as INSERT statements, out to a text file for bcp, or even use a database connection in the script to move the data directly from Excel into SQL Server. This snippet won’t run on your system, of course – it assumes a Microsoft Office Excel 2007 spreadsheet located at c:\temp called VendorList.xlsx. It looks for a tab in that spreadsheet called Vendors. The statement that does the writing just uses one column: Vendor Code. Here’s the breakdown of what I’m doing: In the first block, I connect to Microsoft Office Excel. That connection string is specific to Excel 2007, so if you need a different version you’ll need to look that up. In the second block I set up a selection from the entire spreadsheet based on that tab. Note that if you’re only after certain data you shouldn’t get the whole spreadsheet – that’s just good practice. In the next block I create the text I want, inserting the Vendor Code field as I go. Finally I close the connection.   • Monitoring Windows Azure Service Bus Endpoint with BizTalk 360?

    I'm currently working with a customer who is undergoing an initiative to expose some of their line of business applications to external partners and SAAS applications and as part of this we have been looking at using the Windows Azure Service Bus. For the first part of the project we were focused on some synchronous request response scenarios where an external application would use the Service Bus relay functionality to get data from some internal applications. When we were looking at the operational monitoring side of the solution it was obvious that although most of the normal server monitoring capabilities would be required for the on premise components we would have to look at new approaches to validate that the operation of the service from outside of the organization was working as expected. A number of months ago one of my colleagues Elton Stoneman wrote about an approach I have introduced with a number of clients in the past where we implement a diagnostics service in each service component we build. This service would allow us to make a call which would flex some of the working parts of the system to prove it was working within any SLA. This approach is discussed on the following article: http://geekswithblogs.net/EltonStoneman/archive/2011/12/12/the-value-of-a-diagnostics-service.aspx In our solution we wanted to take the same approach but we had to consider that the service clients were external to the service. We also had to consider that by going through Windows Azure Service Bus it's not that easy to make most of your standard monitoring solutions just give you an easy way to do this. In a previous article I have described how you can use BizTalk 360 to monitor things using a custom extension to the Web Endpoint Manager and I felt that we could use this approach to provide an excellent way to monitor our service bus endpoint. The previous article is available on the following link: http://geekswithblogs.net/michaelstephenson/archive/2012/09/12/150696.aspx   The Monitoring Solution BizTalk 360 currently has an easy way to hook up the endpoint manager to a url which it will then call and if a successful response is returned it then considers the endpoint to be in a healthy state. We would take advantage of this by creating an ASP.net web page which would be called by BizTalk 360 and behind this page we would implement the functionality to call the diagnostics service on our Service Bus endpoint. The ASP.net page could include logic to work out how to handle the response from the diagnostics service. For example if the overall result of the diagnostics service was successful but the call to the diagnostics service was longer than a certain amount of time then we could return an error and indicate the service is taking too long. The following diagram illustrates the monitoring pattern.   The diagnostics service which is hosted in the line of business application allows us to ping a simple message through the Azure Service Bus relay to the WCF services in the LOB application and we they get a response back indicating that the service is working fine. To implement this I used the exact same approach I described in my previous post to create a custom web page which calls the diagnostics service and then it would return an HTTP response code which would depend on the error condition returned or a 200 if it was successful. One of the limitations of this approach is that the competing consumer pattern for listening to messages from service bus means that you cannot guarantee which server would process your diagnostics check message but with BizTalk 360 you could simply add multiple endpoint checks so that it could access the individual on-premise web servers directly to ensure that each server is working fine and then check that messages can also be processed through the cloud. Conclusion It took me about 15 minutes to get a proof of concept of this up and running which was able to monitor our web services which had been exposed via Windows Azure Service Bus. I was then able to inherit all of the monitoring benefits of BizTalk 360 to provide an enterprise class monitoring solution for our cloud enabled API.

  • iScsiPrt error event ID 5

    Event Log: "Failed to setup initiator portal. Error status is given in the dump data." This is being recorded every 3/100's of a second. We are using MS iSCSI Initiator on Windows Server 2003, Dell 2970 w/4GB (PAE). I am sure that this was configured by Dell initially. I have no idea what changes or mods were made since the company installed this machine until now. (I'm a new User so the lovely and vibrant screen images had to be removed. They were quite pretty and I am sure you would have been very moved and appreciative of them.) It appears that everything is installed correctly and the 5TB bound volume is accessible but I have never worked with iScsi before so I plead total ignorance. In searching I have found this to be a fairly sparce and bland documented subject. I'd like two things... First, to get rid of the error msg being logged. MS says it can be ignored if everything is working but it chews up resources logging it and I don't feel comfortable about any errors on my servers. I want to correct whatever is causing this problem. Secondly, being totally green to this, I would like to confirm that the setup is optimized and we are taking advantage of all features available. Although there are 3 NIC's in this machine it appears that the initiator is only configured for the Broadcom BMC5708C NetXtreme II on our 10.90.1.#, the other 2 NICS are 1GB on the 192.168.0.#. Would additional targets improve performance? If someone who is experienced in configuring the Microsoft iScsi Initiator can help I would really appreciate it since, as I mentioned, everything I have come across has not been of any value at all.   • Howto make a diff of a bios or backup/ restore all bios settings

    Hi, I'm using an Dell M90 Precision Laptop which has a NVidia Quadro FX 2500M graphics card and is running Windows XP. Laptop has been running fine - but a few weeks ago screen went 'white' - restarted computer- bios and startup screens show weird green dots and stripes, normal startup only shows a black screen... only VGA mode works to display something. I've been trying to remove and reinstall the correct drivers downloaded from Dell's website - no solution. I gave up and reinstalled XP - everything was working perfect again. 2 weeks later - again the white screen - tried everything again (flashin new bios also - nothing works) Reinstalled XP - everyhting was working again, so I made a DriveSnapShot of the partition. Today - again the 'white screen'. Ok, no problem ...I was thinking all I needed to do was to restore the DriveSnapShot backup... Few minutes later the backup is restored ... but guess what: video driver does not work correctly... As the DriveSnapShot restored the complete partition, as it was at the time everything was working perfectly, this would mean my driver problems are due to 'settings' in the bios or on the graphics-card itself + these 'settings' can get overridden by doing a new XP-install.... I'm out of options, can somebody help me to find a solution for this problem: Is there some way to backup and restore a bios after seeing some problems? Is there some way to know what is causing this problem like a bios diff utility? Thanks!

I need this data to understand why the system crashes; any help as to how to fix this to write a dump file would be appreciated. Thanks.   • Ubuntu/Nvidia lists DVI dual cable as single

    I have an NVidia Quadro FX 880M graphics card, from which I am trying to drive 2 monitors: my internal laptop montior (15.6", 1920x1080, Nvidia driver says it's running via DisplayPort) and an external 27" monitor (Dell U2711, 2560x1440 native resolution, via DVI). I've hooked the dual DVI cable to the dual DVI port on my dock (Dell PR03X) and installed the proprietary NVidia driver, but I cannot seem to get the full 2560x1440 out of the larger 27" external monitor. Looking at the NVidia driver settings, the monitor's connection is reported as a single DVI cable, rather than a dual one, which would explain the reduced resolution. Does anyone have any experience with an issue like this? What can I do to make full use of my new monitor? (Possibly) Relevant Information: There is no DVI port on the laptop itself, but one is provided via the dock. The laptop and dock both provide a DisplayPort jack, but I have been unable to get this working on either w/ the monitor. I did have the nouveau driver installed when I installed the nvidia proprietary driver, but have since removed it (no change in the monitor situation when I removed it). The 27" reports a max resolution of 1680x1050. Thanks, Joe

  • Wire VMWare Player NIC to a VLAN in Ubuntu 8.04.3

    Hi, I've got VMWare Player 2.5.x installed on a Ubuntu 8.04.3 host running CentOS 5.3 running Cobbler. VMWare Player has two NICs (I actually took this image from an ESXi image, converted it to Player 2.x image via VMWare Standalone Converter). I've also setup a vlan (vlan5) on the host with 10.0.0.x and I'd like Cobbler to use that VLAN to serve any incoming requests. How do I wire up my VMWare to use the VLAN I've setup? Just one of the NICs. What I'm trying to do is to offer a laptop with a VM that our sysadmins can go, plug it into a box (which does not connect to the interwebs) and install RHEL images via cobbler. So essentially, its a cross over cable from the network port on the lappy to the Dell server box. PXE boot in the dell box and install RHEL. I have the cobbler working fine under VMWare ESXi but not so on the VMWare Player because of the VLAN issue - I think. Any ideas?

I've also setup a vlan (vlan5) on the host with 10.0.0.x and I'd like Cobbler to use that VLAN to serve any incoming requests. How do I wire up my VMWare to use the VLAN I've setup? Just one of the NICs. What I'm trying to do is to offer a laptop with a VM that our sysadmins can go, plug it into a box (which does not connect to the interwebs) and install RHEL images via cobbler. So essentially, its a cross over cable from the network port on the lappy to the Dell server box. PXE boot in the dell box and install RHEL. I have the cobbler working fine under VMWare ESXi but not so on the VMWare Player because of the VLAN issue - I think. Any ideas?

  • Windows 8 unable to connect to WPA2 AES Wireless Network

    I'm running Windows 8 and am unable to connect to my home wireless network. I've tried restarting the router, patching the drivers to the next version, patching the drivers to the last version, running windows update and patching the chipset drivers to the latest version. So far nothing has worked. My computer can get on the internet via USB tethering on my phone or an open WiFi connection, but it is unable to connect to my home WPA2 AES secured wireless network. It sees the network, attempts to connect, gets a limited connection and then drops the connection. All the other wireless devices in my household have no problems. I have the new Dell XPS 12, running Windows 8 using an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 wireless adapter. I've refreshed windows twice now to try different driver configurations. I've tried uninstalling all the Dell software, I've tried uninstalling all the Intel software and reinstalling just the drivers. I've tried turning switching the ability for the Wireless driver to turn the computer off or on. I've tried setting up the connection manually from desktop mode. I've tried switching it on and off using the wireless button on the keyboard and in the software. So far nothing has allowed me to connect to the secured network. It just keeps getting a limited connection, dropping the connection and retrying. It's driving me crazy, any ideas, anything I missed? Thanks.

    Hi, I have a pair of ProCurve 2810-24G that I will use with a Dell Equallogic SAN and Vmware ESXi. Since ESXi does MPIO, I am a little uncertain on the configuration for links between the switches. Is a trunk the right way to go between the switches? I know that the ports for the SAN and the ESXi hosts should be untagged, so does that mean that I want tagged VLAN on the trunk ports?   • Intermittent "Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet'"

    Our web environment consists of two servers. Web front-end. Dell PowerEdge R610, RHEL 5.5, Apache 2.2.17, php 5.2.14. Database server. Dell PowerEdge R710, Windows 2008 R2 Standard x64, MySQL 5.5.11-log x64. Normally these two work perfectly fine together. However, when I try to get them talking via a dedicated LAN on their secondary NICs (each machine has four of them), things get flaky. I have NIC #2 on both machines configured on the 172.16.1.0/24 subnet, with no gateway or DNS servers (obviously, since it's just those two systems), and I put the private IP address of each machine into the hosts file of the other. The routing tables on both machines look okay after I do this. I've tried this with both a crossover cable draped directly between the two NICs, and also via a dedicated vlan on the switch in the rack. In either case, I get intermittent connection problems. It's a fairly small percentage of connections that fail, but it's enough to cause a significant problem, and I have to switch back to the main network connection, which will contend with all the other traffic and hosts on the switch. The full error message that appears in the application log: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2013] Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error: 110 Am I doing something really dumb that's causing this to not work properly? Anything I can check in MySQL that would explain why it's failing to connect occasionally?

    I have some extra (old) Macs and PCs around the house and a MacBook that's sometimes overworked. I'm looking for tips on using multiple computers effectively. Basically, I'd like to add to the following list. Here's what I'm using so far: Teleport: lets you use a single mouse and keyboard to control several Macs, like Synergy Built-in file sharing: lets me run programs on another Mac, but only maintain one copy of the data Bazaar: distributed version control Mail.app, Thunderbird, etc.: IMAP for my mail accounts TuneConnect: control iTunes on another Mac with a nice interface, using the library on my MacBook (if I choose it by pressing option at startup) over file sharing OmniFocus: syncs across computers pretty seamlessly Web browsing across computers VNC/Remote Desktop Running X-windows programs using ssh -Y hostname for headless operation (but they die when I sleep the connecting computer -- something like GNU screen would be ideal) Plain-old ssh with GNU screen Really, a better idea of what I do might be necessary. Generally though, I'd like to distribute tasks across more than one computer when possible, but not have much overhead in doing so. The perfect solution? An Xgrid-like program that pushes processing across multiple computers automatically and seamlessly (although that seems unlikely). Here's what I have, in case it makes a difference: MacBook (Dual 2.16 GHz, OS X 10.6.3) eMac (1.25 GHz, OS X 10.4.11, soon to be 10.5) Dell Dimension (800 MHz, some version of Ubuntu) -- no dedicated monitor PowerMac G3 (400 MHz, OS X 10.4.11) -- no dedicated monitor iMac G3 DV (400 MHz, OS X 10.4.11) -- currently in the kitchen for recipes, email, web browsing, music, movies (DVDs), etc. (Total, they cost me around $650, mostly for the MacBook. Freecycle is wonderful, just in case you haven't heard of it.) I'm really only using the MacBook and eMac at this point, but I'd like to push more onto it and possibly the PowerMac and Dell.

  • iSCSI SAN Implementation with several ESXi hosts and two Equallogic SANs

    I work for a small state college. We currently have 4 ESXi hosts (all made by Dell), 2 EqualLogic SANs (PS4000 and PS4100) and a bunch of old HP Procurve switches. The current setup is very far from being redundant and fast so we want to improve it. I read several threads but get even more confused. The Procurve Switches are 2824. I know they don't support Jumbo Frames and Flow Control at the same time, but we have plans to upgrade to something like Procurve 3500yl. Any suggestions? I heard Dell Powerconnects 6xxx are pretty good but I'm not sure how they compare to HPs. There will be a 4-port Etherchannel (Link Aggregation) between the switches, and all control modules on SAN will be connected to different switches. Is there anything that will make the setup better? Are there better switches then Procurves 3500yl that cost less than 5k? What kind of bandwidth can I expect between ESXi hosts (they will also be connected to 2824 with multiple cables) and SANs?

  • Why does ATI 5570 HD video card driver installation cause Windows 7 To Blue Screen?

    This one is for the hive mind. I have a brand new Dell Optiplex 760 workstation with 4 gigabytes of RAM running Windows 7 Professional (32bit). This is a new box with nothing installed other than what was provided for directly by Dell. I installed a Saphire ATI PCI Express 5570 HD. Upon trying to install the 10.4 Catalyst drivers the system will blue screen. It blue screens during the hardware detection phase of the installation process. I have already performed the following trouble shooting steps: Changed system RAM Installed only 2 gigabytes of RAM Installed different versions of Catalyst drivers (10.4 - 9.12) Tried to install video only component of driver (vs entire Catalyst suite) Made sure Windows 7 was fully updated Flashed mother board BIOS to current version Removed and re-seated video card Contacted ATI Support (We all know how this went......) Verified supply outputting properly The blue screen error (via Windows BugCheck entry in event log) is a 0x000000CA and refers to a plug and play error most likely caused by a bad driver. The problem is that the driver installation process never gets far enough to actually install a driver. The resolution center in Windows provides a solution of installing the 10.4 Catalyst driver to resolve issue (which fails). Looking for some alternate views to resolve.

  • What configuration changes can I make to speed up extremely slow Windows VM's in ESXi 4.0.

    I've recently moved from VMWare Server to ESXi 4.0. Running on Dell T310. My VM's have been restored but they are running dog slow compared to VMWare Server. I loaded ESXi 4.0 using only default values. Where are some areas where I can tweak the performance? Even logging onto the VM's can be extremely sluggish. Trying to install software on any of them is a new experience in pain. Dell PowerEdge T310 Xeon X3460 2.80 GHz 32 GB RAM 1 HD (2 TB) I have 16 VM's on this server, but only six or so will be running during my testing. I keep an eye on the Resource Allocation and Performance tabs for the host and I never see CPU or RAM getting anywhere close to pegged. Events tab does show some notices for video RAM issues and some hints on Windows activation issues, but nothing that would point to the sort of sluggishness that I'm experiencing. 1 Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) - 4 GB RAM 1 Windows 7 (32-bit) - 2 GB RAM 1 Vista (32-bit) - 1 GB RAM 3 XP (32-bit) - 1 GB RAM Over to you!     Howdy, I previously asked this ServerFault question: Does anyone have experience with lefthands VSA SAN The general consensus looks like it does not perform well enough for a production SQL server even at a light load. So the new question is, How does LeftHand's SAN perform on the HP or Dell dedicated Hardware boxes? We are looking at the Starter SAN with 2 HP nodes in a 2-way replication, 2 ESX servers hosting a total of 2 Active Directory server, 1 MS SQL server, 1 File Server, and 1 General Purpose Server for things like Virus Scan (All Microsoft Server 2005 or 2008). The reason I am looking at LeftHand is for the complete software package. I plan to have a DR site and like how the SAN can perform an Async Replication to the offsite location without having to go back to the Vendor for more licenses. I also like the redundancy built into the Network Raid architecture. I have looked at other SANS and found different faults with them. For example, Dell's EqualLogic: Found that although the individual box is very redundant in hardware, the Data once spanned across multiple boxes is not redundant, if a node goes down you have lost the only copy of the data sitting on that hardware (One thing is certain, all hardware fails... When? is the only question.). I have used an XioTech SAN as well.. Well worth the money BTW, but I think it is overkill for the size of the office I am targeting. The cost to get the hardware redundancy in the XioTech makes it a little out of reach for the budget I am working in. Thank you, Keith

  • Cooling Server Closet - No A/C Is Possible

    We're moving into a new office in an old building in London (that's England :) and are walling off a 2m x 1.3m area where the router & telephone equipment currently terminates to use as a server closet. The closet will contain: 2 24-port switches 1 router 1 VSDL modem 1 Dell desktop 1 4-bay NAS 1 HP micro-server 1 UPS Miscellaneous minor telephony boxes. There is no central A/C in the office and there never will be. We can install ducting to the outside quite easily - it's only a couple of metres to the windows, which face a courtyard. My question is whether installing an extractor fan with ducting to the window should be sufficient for cooling? Would an intake fan and intake duct (from the window, too) be required? We don't want to leave a gap in the closet door as that'll let noise out into the office. If we don't have to put a portable A/C unit into the closet, that'd be perfect. The office has about 12 people; London is temperate, average maximum in August is 31 Celsius, 25 Celsius is more typical. The same equipment runs fine in our current office (same building as new office, also no A/C) but it isn't in an enclosed space. I can see us putting say one Dell 2950 tower server into the closet, but no more than that. So, sustained power consumption in the closet would currently be about 800w (I'm guessing); possibly in the future 2kw. The closet will have a ceiling and no windows and be well-insulated. We don't care if the equipment runs hot, so long as it runs and we don't hear it.

  • Laptop will not boot

    This is a dell studio 1558 laptop. Now, something is wrong with the charger that it won't charge the laptop, but the laptop can turn on and operate properly as long as it is attached. It has been like this for a while, but it's not the problem. My problem is that as of yesterday, It takes several minutes to get past the "dell" startup logo (where is says "f2 setup" and "f12 boot options"). After it gets past, it beeps as normal to tell me about the charger and gives me the f2/f12 options and f1 to continue as normal. I can press f12 to get into boot options and load into my live USB BackTrack 5 ISO, but after "startx" it just stays at a black screen. I can also access BIOS setup, but see nothing that would help the problem. When I boot to the HDD, it gives me this Intel UNDI, PXE-2.1 (build 083) Realktek PCIe GBE Family Controller Series V.2.29 (06/30/09) PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable PXE-M0F: Exiting PXE ROM Operating System not found Also, pressing f8 gives me the same results as booting as normal. It is running Windows 7 Ultimate, dual-core Intel i3 @ 2.27ghz and 4gb RAM. I think there is an issue with the HDD, as the "Operating System not found" would lead me to believe. Is this a fixable problem?

  • Explorer.EXE ordinal 423 not found in urlmon.dll after updates/IE8 install

    Setting up a brand new Dell Optiplex 980 with Windows XP SP3, and everything started up fine on the first boot. My first task was to install system updates, including IE8 and WGA. After the required reboot after installing updates, I now get this error message: Explorer.EXE Ordinal not found. The ordinal 423 could not be located in the dynamic link library urlmon.dll Per my cursory Google search, this forum thread places the blame squarely on IE8. The solution provided is to enter safe mode and remove IE8. Unfortunately, when I press F8 to choose to boot safe mode, I only have the option of "Windows XP SP3 Professional" and no safe mode options. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance. FYI, I can get to the Windows Task Manager by holding down Control-Alt-Delete, but programs don't seem to run properly if you select them. I tried chatting with Dell Support, and we tried to initiate the system restore at c:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, but that had a similar "ordinal 423 not found in urlmon.dll" error.
