  • jQuery i++ and i-- problems ... what on earth???

    Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I'm not a newbie at programming but I feel like it tonight! Every time I increment the incrementing variable it throws a fit! When add one to it, it behaves fine, but if I try to add one more to it it wants to add 2 more. And then if I try to de-increment it wants to subtract from the original number that it was assigned to. I've tried: i++; i = i+1; i = i++; Nothing seems to work. It's got to be a stupid mistake.   • Why are there magic attributes exposed in the Servlet spec?

    It's always seemed a little at odds with the principles of Java that the Java Servlet Spec (2.5 version here) includes a set of magic attributes containing info about included resources, namely: javax.servlet.include.request_uri javax.servlet.include.context_path javax.servlet.include.servlet_path javax.servlet.include.path_info javax.servlet.include.query_string It's not even specifically pointed out in the API documentation, only in the spec where it is a must for correct implementation. This approach feels very wrong, an exposed implementation detail that clients will use and depend on. Why is this information exposed in this way?

The socket library I have been using doesn’t have a mingw32 build of the library, but it’s open source. So how can I make a mingw32 build of the socket library so I can make a windows build using the source provided?

  • Sending same email through two different accounts on different domains using Outlook 2010

    I am a programmer and don't have experience in Outlook configurations. Our company has two email domains namely xyz.com and xyz.biz. Each employee has an email id on one of these domains but not both depending on the project they are working on. The problem we are facing is that when a communication email is sent from the Accounts, HR, Admin, etc departments, they need to send the email twice. Once through the xyz.com account to all employees with an email address on xyz.com and once through xyz.biz to all employees with an email address on xyz.biz. I am not sure why they have to send two separate emails but the IT team has directed all departments to do so as there is no other solution according to them. Even though two different groups have been created, sending an email to employees in a group of xyz.biz from xyz.com does not seem to work. I want to know if Outlook provides a feature such that we can configure some kind of rules to send an email through an id on xyz.com to all users on xyz.com and the same email gets sent automatically to users on xyz.biz through an id on xyz.biz. The only technical details I know is that we are using Exchange 2003 and the IT team claims that this is a limitation causing the problem. Edit: Our company is split into two main divisions depending on the type of projects. I am pretty sure I use domain XYZ wheras the employees in the other division use the doman ABC to log in into the windows machine or outlook itself. Also, employees in domain XYZ can access the machines on the network in domain ABC but not the other way around

  • Using ImageMagick to create an image from a PDF...efficiently

    I'm using ImageMagick to create a tiny JPG thumbnail image of an already-uploaded PDF. The code works fine. It's a WordPress widget, though this isn't necessarily WordPress specific. I'm unfamiliar with ImageMagick, so I was hoping somebody could tell me if this looks terrible or isn't following some best practices of some sort, or if I'm risking crashing the server. My questions, specifically, are: Is that image cached, or does the server have to re-generate the image every time somebody views the page? If it isn't cached, what's the best way to make sure the server doesn't have to regenerate the thumbnail? I tried to create a separate folder (/thumbs) for ImageMagick to put all the images in, instead of cluttering up the WP upload folders with images of PDFs. It kept throwing a permission error, despite 777 permissions on the folder in my testing environment. Why? Do the source/destination directories have to be the same? Am I doing anything incorrectly/inefficiently here that needs to be improved?   • Android: ScoreNinja is only displaying 1 highscore....

    Hi All, I am trying to implement ScoreNinja into one of my apps. It all seems to work, but when I submit a score it replaces the current #1 score with any that I supply, even it is lower. This means that only one score is ever displayed. Anyone got any idea what I'm doing wrong? I have e-mailed the dev but he/they haven't responded.   • Drupal - special css file if JS is turned off?

    I'm building a Drupal theme up and want to know if there is a Drupalish way to add a css file only if the user has js turned off. This would ideally go in the theme.info file to keep it neat! Something like this would be ideal: conditional-stylesheets[if no javascript][all][] = nojs.css If this isn't possible then I'm going to keep all the css that needs JS out of the css files, and add it dynamically using JS but this seems a bit messy... Any ideas?

  • How to Monitor Network in Medium-Sized Company?

    I work at a medium sized company (100+ employees). An issue that has been cropping up is network performance, internet access in particular. We have about 70 or more computers, a mix of Mac OS X and Windows XP & 7 machines. We have several servers (Exchange server, PC file servers, MS SQL, Blackberry, FTP, Mac server, etc). There are four main switches, a SonicWall firewall, and probably a couple routers in the server room with a dozen or so more scattered around the building. The network structure has grown organically over a number of years; and, as far as I know, there really isn't a monitoring solution in place. When we experience network issues (slow connections, dropped packets, and so on), our general solution is to power cycle some hardware or go around to each employee and ask them if they are uploading/downloading any large files. This is really inefficient and time consuming, and it does not allow us to monitor the network, tackling potential problems proactively. I would like to find a solution that would allow me to monitor network usage company-wide in real time, with detail going down to the individual computer, ideally. Given the hodgepodge of equipment and operating systems, what would be the best way to set up some kind of monitoring solution? Hardware, software, restructuring our network architecture?

  • How to create a project template for Ruby on Rails projects?

    When I build Rails applications I find myself doing the same things over and over again. This includes adding the same gems/plugins, configuration info and custom initializers, rake tasks etc... etc.... This can't be a good thing. So, is there a way to package all this repetitive code into some sort of project template ... so that I can do a "rails myapp" and have everything good to go from there?   • Limited user requires admin rights for plug and play printer?

    I have a small fleet of laptops that aren't part of a domain running Windows XP Pro SP3 as limited users. They are used for printing different shipping documents. I have a script that runs when they start up that uses devcon and prntmngr to detect and install/configure the currently connected usb printers. This lets us deploy the laptops to any printing station with a USB printer and have the printer 'just work' for the end user employee. I've taken the original clone image and have added functionality to it. Since then I've discovered a bit of an issue with using HP LaserJet P1606dn printers. They have started asking for admin rights on setup. This is with and without the script running. Previously they would automatically install because I had installed WHQL plug and play drivers for them. I thought it might have to do with the HP Smart Install Utility but it happens when that is disabled. I don't have a good point to roll back to before this started happening because this was an issue on the image I took initially to start this upgrade. What could be causing this?
