• How to get the line number an xml element is on via the Java w3c dom api

  Is there a way to lookup the line number that a given element is at in an xml file via the w3c dom api? My use case for this is that we have 30,000+ maps in kml/xml format. I wrote a unit test that iterates over each file found on the hard drive (about 17GB worth) and tests that it is parseable by our application. When it fails I throw an exception that contains the element instance that was considered "invalid". In order for our mapping department (nobody here knows how to program) to easily track down the typo we would like to log the line number of the element that caused the exception. Can anybody suggest a way to do this? Please note we are using the W3C dom api included in the Android 1.6 SDK.

  I just started with Amazon web services, and I have an EC2 instance. I downloaded the JAVA SDK and the Eclipse toolbox. I am able to run a sample program locally on my PC and connect to the Amazon databases, etc. My question is, what do I need to do to get this working on my EC2 instance? This may not even be specific to AWS. On Eclipse, I can just "Run as Application" and run any code. On the server side, what do I need to do? Should I ftp over my .java files? Should I export it to a jar and upload that? Do I need to install anything special to actually run it? I'm just trying to run the basic DynamoDB example that connects to the database and adds a new table and row

• Compile Qt Project To Run On A Linux System

  I have a Qt project. It uses the cross platform libraries SDL, OpenGL and FLTK. I want to be able to compile the project so that it can run on a Linux computer. I'm looking at a bunch of articles I have seen so far two ways to do this. Use a cross compiler, which seems to me a rather complicated thing to setup and compile with, or, the other options, is to compile the project simply on a Linux computer, simply the Linux version of Qt creator/SDK. My question is, If I have a Qt project that uses only cross platform libraries, then is creating a Windows version easy as compiling it in Qt/Windows, and creating the Linux version as easy as doing it in Qt/Linux? PS. Please don't ask/complain about why I didn't just try to see if it works myself, I don't have any Linux OS's installed on my computer right now, and I don't want to risk going into the trouble of installing a whole new OS just to have it not work in the end.

  Hi! I'm searched adobe and android developers sites, but can't find any details on this. Is it possible to use Flash as a part of my app? E.g. like a widget/GUI element? Or it's integrated in browser only and can't be simple accessible? I know, Adobe AIR apps are supported as standalone .apk. So it must be some API/SDK (from Google) to connect with Flash player. Is there any details, how to program it (more clear: launch swf from my app and interact with it)? Thank you!

  My actual experience comes from PHP and Delphi(Borland) and recently also from Obj-C (iPhone sdk). In the past I also used Java, Python, VB 6 and some other scripting language. I would like to learn C++ because i need a standard tool for write compiled applications with good performance but i have no idea about witch environment i have to choose (Ex: Borland, Microsoft, Eclipse+MinGW, ...). Based those parameters: Most useful more opensource project or work requests Most standard not a proprietary versions Biggest community documentation, manuals, tutorials, forums... Better IDE add-ons, highlight, debug, cross platform, autocomplete... Easy setup A simple setup, to focus on learning the basics Actually I'm on OSX but I can use a VM if needed. Advices about tutorial or books are welcome. I hope it's not too generic as question.

• facebook api getting full posts with > 2 comments or > 4 likes

  when I make the user/feed request on the Facebook Open Graph API, I get a feed object where posts with 2 comments or 4 likes don't reveal the detailed information for those specific comments. I am using https://github.com/Thuzi/facebook-node-sdk to make requests but it is very similar to the 'request' NodeJS library. I can get the full posts individually by making a separate request for that post's Open Graph ID, but this doesn't lend itself to fun code because requests are asynchronous and nesting more asynchronous calls within asynchronous calls doesn't lend itself to fun code. Any way I can obtain the full posts?

• C# PCL rendering into TIFF (or other image format)

  I'm looking for the best solution -- and perhaps the cheapest also -- to take PCL5e and PCL6 compliant code and render it into a TIFF image. Reliably. Does anyone have any experience with the PCLTool SDK from PageTech (http://www.pagetech.com/pcl.php)? This looks to be the best I can find, but I'm not sure how flexible it really is. The other options is trying to write my own interface, which would be a BEAST of a project and not one I really want to try to tackle. Any open-source solutions out there? Anyone with a C#/.NET project having success with PCL rendering? If so, how?

• iPhone framework paths?

  I recently moved my projects to a new mac, along with a newer version of Xcode. When i opened my project i noticed that some files were red. So i remapped them by setting the path (by project path) and then providing the proper path location. Now my problem is that the frameworks that i have are red, and i cant find their location! I did set the framework paths to be "relative to current SDK" however. Can anybody help me get my frameworks mapped correctly? The frameworks im using are: - QuartzCore.framework - libsqlite3.0.dylib - UIKit.framework - Foundation.frameowrk - CoreGraphics.framework The XCode version is 3.1.4 (the only one installed). The iPhone app was originally created using a prior version of Xcode (i dont remember which version).

• Facebook email Permission, oath2, doesnt work?

  since the new Auth Dialog from Facebook (for my App & homepage), I cannot get the dialog to show that my homepage/app needs the users email when connection to my homepage/app. In the Auth-section of my app I've added "email" to the User & Friend Permissions. Also I've added it to the referal when someone clicks the "Login with facebook"-button. When someone clicks the Facebook-button, he/she redirects to a page which has the PHP-code with Facebook SDK PHP (latest). Here's how I generate the send-to-url for the dialog: $login_url = $facebook-getLoginUrl(array('req_perms' = 'email,publish_stream')); header("Location: ".$login_url); But when the Dialog pops up, the only permission request it does is "basic information". I need to request the Email. Am I stupid or is it a bug somehow? I've also recreated the App.

• Problem with increment in inline ARM assembly

  Hi , i have the following bit of inline ARM assembly, it works in a debug build but crashes in a release build of iphone sdk 3.1. The problem is the add instructions where i am incrementing the address of the C variables output and x by 4 bytes, this is supposed to increment by the size of a float. • creating a custom odbc driver for application

  Ok, i have a simple database engine (its a proprietary product written in vb6) for one of my applications... i'd like to create an ODBC driver for it so i can use some of my other applications (which require a database) with my database engine rather than microsoft sql (which they are currently using)....   Hello Community, I need to send data from an Air application, using a certificate. This certificate is to be provided by the user through a USB Key. I've got a lot of questions regarding this. • How to remove the file which has opened handles?

  PROBLEM HISTORY: Now I use Windows Media Player SDK 9 to play AVI files in my desktop application. It works well on Windows XP but when I try to run it on Windows 7 I caught an error - I can not remove AVI file immediately after playback. The problem is that there are opened file handles exist. On Windows XP I have 2 opened file handles during the playing file and they are closed after closing of playback window but on Windows 7 I have already 4 opened handles during the playing file and 2 of them remain after the closing of playback window. They are become free only after closing the application. QUESTION: How can I solve this problem? How to remove the file which has opened handles? May be exists something like "force deletion"?   I'm really new to Facebook application development, and I'm quite confused about application permissions and why the php sdk is so limiting and has so few precoded functions. First off, how do I check if a user has set proper permissions for my application, and if not, display that standard dialog immediately instead of using FBML and making them click the link? Secondly, how do I publish to a user's stream with the php apis? Finally, are there any good tutorial sites for making a php based canvas application that use the latest versions of all the sdks? Thank you for your help! I really don't see why so much of this is Javascript, it would really make much more sense to me to have things like: if(!$facebook->appHasPerm('publish_stream'){$facebook->showPermDialog('publish_stream');} I'd feel like I have much more control over the application if it worked like that.

• AIR app still running when the iphone is blocked?

  I just made a simple game with flash professional 6.0 and adobe AIR sdk 3.4 for iPhone. The problem is this: when I lock the iphone pressing the power button, the screen switches off as usual, but the music of the game still sounds. If I exit the game pressing the home button it exits fine. Is only when locking the phone with the app opened. Also, I opted-out of multitasking for my app, so if I close my app with the home button and I reload it, it loads the main menu. Anyone knows how can I solve this?

  I'm using the Facebook SDK for my app. I have created a singleton class FacebookHelper to deal with all Facebook related logic. Whenever I make a Facebook request (i.e download friends) I set an enum i.e FacebookRequestDownloadFriends so that FacebookHelper knows how to handle errors and success for that request (since handling can be different between the different requests) This solution has worked out fine until now, because now I'm doing 2 Facebook Requests at the same time so when I set the enum for the first request i.e FacebookRequestDownloadFriends and then it will be overwritten just shortly with another request FacebookRequestDownloadEvents, so there will be confusion obviously. How can I deal with this issue without having to refactor too much code?

• How to make a resolution independent camera preview on android?

  Hi all, I'm making an android 1.6 app that uses phone's camera. In order to do this app resolution independent, I need to set a compatible aspect ratio for previewing camera on a SurfaceLayout. In 1.6 sdk there is no way to get supported sizes for the camera preview. It is possible to use a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio and get no errors whith that? On the other hand, I need a way to make a xml layout that represents this Surfacelayout in this (unknown) aspect ratio in every resolution. I assume that is not possible to change the SurfaceLayout size in runtime. Can I do it with "dp" units? The other way is making this layout programmatically? There are some apps like Vignette or android camera application with some tricks to make something like that, like black bars (vignette) or fixed buttons bar, but I don't know how to do it in any kind of resolution. Any ideas? Thanks!

• Free icons for mobile applications. Where?

  I know that in the sdk folders I can find some (not very well grouped, imho) icon. But, there is a site online specialized that let you download free icons useful for mobile app? Ie world flags, up, down... save, revert..., next..., play, stop..., etc. It would be more appriciated also if you can find these sets in many different colors, and in 2 or 3 sizes (32x32, 64x64, etc.). Have a nice day (ot. Especially my mom - her 62 birthday :-) Edit: those are all good sites, but to green-check the answer I need a small set with the common icons (I think moreabout 50-70 icons), in many different colors and in 2 or 3 different sizes (for lo-mid-hi definition devices). - If a so done site exists for free :-)
